So, I´m trying to install Disney/Pixar Cars via wine but I am having trouble running the setup. When I run it, it give the error: 0288:err:msvcrt:_invalid_parameter (null):0 (null): (null) 0 a bunch of times and then the setup appears completely blank. For some extra information, I´m running Debian 12 and Wine 8.0.
I just installed Wine on my Chromebook using Linux. I changed the desktop size to fit my screen and changed the screen resolution, except I made it too big. I've tried to change it, but I can't get to the bottom of the window to click the apply button. Is there any way I can fix this?

I want to use iLok DRM in wine, and I think that I need to not update wine to prevent iLok from thinking I'm on a new PC. I'm pretty sure the "updating wine configuration" dialogue causes the new PC issue.
Are there any other circumstances apart from updating which can cause the configuration to change?
Suppose I bring the wine bottle over to a new PC. If the same wine version is installed, will the wine config not update?
Hello, I'd like to run proteus in linux using wine. I searched the internet and found this topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux4noobs/comments/17kjufa/proteus_8x_on_wine/
And it helped me to some extent, the program mostly works, things like animated LEDs work, voltimeters too, but merely trying to place things like switches makes the program crash and close.
Any idea on how to solve this?
Thank you in advance.
I would very much like to get the new Fantastical for Windows running on Linux, but it's only available from the microsoft store or packaged as a .msix file. I'm able to extract the MSIX file and there is a Fantastical.exe inside, but I'm not able to run it with WINE. Is there anything anyone here could reccomend? Or is this just not possible?

Thanks!
The Policy Manager component of System Manager uses Java with its own wrapper. As you can see, fonts look terrible. Other applications look fine.
Also before anybody even thinks about commenting it, no I don't want to use GIMP.
There is a problem displaying Thai characters in applications running under WINE when the display font doesn't contain the Thai code page characters - for example when using Segoe UI. The Thai characters appear as square boxes. This can be seen when running Notepad using the Thai locale - the menus should be in Thai, but are displayed as square boxes. It can also be seen in foobar2000 with tracks containing Thai characters in the title. When editing the text, the characters do appear correctly such as when editing in Notepad or editing a track title in foobar2000. I have created a workaround which fixes the problem, but any suggestions and discussion for a proper solution are most welcome. I will explain my understanding (open to correction) of the problem below together with the workaround.
WINE isn't using the normal fallback procedure for Thai characters when using fonts without a Thai code page such as Segoe UI (I don't know why). Adding a Thai font to the fallback font stack in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontLink\SystemLink doesn't make a difference. Instead the fallback always goes to a certain small Thai font (even when no SystemLink key is used at all). This font shows as square boxes except when editing. This problem doesn't occur in Windows 11, only in WINE. If I add a fallback font for another code page that is also not in Segoe UI such as Korean, there is no problem - Korean characters display correctly. As far as I know, it is only Thai that doesn't following the normal fallback procedure. I haven't been able to find out where this mysterious fallback font is coming from or why it isn't displaying correctly except when editing.
I created a workaround. I edited the Segoe UI font using FontForge and added in the Thai characters from another font (Leelawadee UI font). I replaced the standard Segoe UI font with this modified one and everything looks good: the Segoe UI characters appear fine, the added Thai characters appear fine, and any other fallback font characters appear fine. Here is a link to my modified version of Segoe UI if anyone wants to use it:
Google drive link to zip file:
Segoe UI font with Thai font Leelawadee UI added
(make a backup copy of your segoeui.ttf font file and then replace it with the one in this zip file.)
I'm sure this workaround will also work for other display fonts that don't include Thai characters. I can supply FontForge instructions if requested.
Using:
WINE: wine-9.0 (Ubuntu 9.0~repack-4build3) [64 bit]
Linux kernel: 6.8.0-47-generic
Distro: Kubuntu 24.04
Any feedback on this issue is most welcome.

I was wondering if i can switch to linux completely because i play some games in bluestacks while using windows and can i do the same on wine, like can i install bluestacks on wine and will it work, btw my laptop is high end hp gaming victus
Good afternoon,
This is a Windows program used to update the built in maps (stored on an SD card) for a 2017 Subaru. Last time I ran it I had a Windows 10 (dual boot) and used that. I no longer have that. My first attempt to run this is on Wine. I installed Wine from the Debian repos, getting 8.0. I also installed winbind
to resolve the first issue in encountered (ntlm_auth was not found
).
This program downloads an installer that actually performs the target install. The installer (an EXE) runs w/out difficulty and seems to install the program. When I try to run the program I see
0148:err:combase:RoGetActivationFactory Failed to find library for L"Windows.UI.ViewManagement.UISettings"

The last two errors seem to just repeat as long as I allow the program to continue.
I looked this up at WineHQ https://www.winehq.org/search?q=Naviextras+Toolbox and did not find anything either encouraging or current.
Is this something I'm likely to get workking or should I just install Windows in an old laptop or VM? It's a one time sort of thing so I do not know if it is worth the effort to put a lot of debugging in.
I see that WineHQ maintains packages for Debian. Would it be advisable to uniunstall the Debian packages and try those?
Thanks!
I'm not that code-savvy and just wanted to play Yandere Simulator on my HP Chromebook. Since I knew that a Chromebook is Linux at heart, I downloaded the terminal and tried it out. Every other step I was prompted to do worked, but the wine command just wouldn't work no matter how hard I tried. I'm not sure how to properly check if Wine is installed and working, but it's in my Linux files when I open the files app. any ideas on why this is going wrong? Btw, the command I'm trying to do is"wine YandereSimulator.exe**"** and the website I got all the code from is linked below.
https://yanderesimulatorpc.com/blog/step-by-step-guide-to-play-yandere-simulator-on-your-chromebook/
Anytime I try to install java through wine I just get error code 1627, I have tried for 32x and 64x systems and neither work on macOS.
I'm dualbooting Arch and Windows, and want to have the Windows apps persist to WINE while I'm using Arch. I am aware that you can make a backup of Windows registry and import it, but can you have WINE actively use the Windows registry AS the WINE registry? This would make everything a lot more convenient for me. I have the Windows partition on /windows.
Hi, I installed Kindle Previewer in Wine-wow64 on my OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.
I need it to work with this Calibre plugin https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272407
The reccommended Kindle Previewer version for Linux is 3.76.0.
I tried to convert a book but Kindle Previewer fails, retrying until it stops.
Note that the fact that the GUI does not work is normal. Only the CLI is used.
This is the log https://gist.github.com/steakhutzeee/fca011624b808ba6e239241aadfd8c81 where at line 186 Kindle Previewer starts.
From the plugin docs:
The Previewer can be used to perform conversions in spite of it producing numerous "DEBUG" and "fixme" messages. The Previewer's GUI does not function under Wine but that does not matter since the CLI is used by this plugin for conversion.
There is that 016c:err:environ:init_peb
error. You think this is a limitation of Wine-wow64? Should I try with standard Wine?
Thank you!
Hi guys, I am having a little bit of a problem that I cant find a solution for, I go to a technical school that requires me to use a program called CADe_Simu (its kind of obscure), have been using it in my ubuntu distro with wine 9.
I recently installed arch in another machine that I want to take to school, wine's version is 9.19 installed from the AUR alongside wine-mono and wine-gecko, and when you enter the program everything works perfectly, except when I try to access the settings page, then I get the message 'An unsuported operation was attempted', its literally the only option that wont work and it should spawn a window with the settings.
Thx in advance, if you also have mo idea about what is happening, could you at least tell me a way I cant see what the app is doing in the backgrouns? Like what errors are happening?
I installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 in my wine prefix to play an UE game, and I somehow ended with 2 of it installed, can't uninstall them and the game isn't launching
winehq Not in Ubuntu 24.10 Not installed Can someone help me?
It's a Logitech quickcam messenger who's drivers were last updated in 2007 for windows 7, any way I can use wine or something alike to use it on my current system?
Ty in advance ;)
Hi!
I hope somebody can point me into a direction - this may be an X11 problem, or something else.
I really, really like using PDF-X-Change ditor from Tracker. After long serach, i didn't really find any Linux software that is coming close. As PDFXchange is not linux compatible, i am using wine to run it. The Software is running fine, PDFs rendering correctly after installing Fonts, good performance.
There is a Problem though: when i put my Laptop into Standby, the reader immediately crashes. I just found out why: because i use a Bluetooth mouse that i plugged in via USB for recharging. And it didnt crash for a while, and thought the Problem was fixed.
Well, i just disconnected the USB-Cable, and the reader immediately crashed. Reproducibly. Every time the Mouse is disconnected.
Fedora 40, KDE Plasma 6.1.5, kwin-x11.

Do you guys know what i can do to prevent this from happening? Is this a Wine Problem, or a X11 Problem? I really like that reader, but it crashing on every standby is kinda annoying.
My Ubuntu confidence is "okay with the command line but not advanced troubleshooting". I am new to Wine.
I've muddled through installing Wine, then the Bose Soundtouch app for windows (it controls local speakers over wifi).
It seems to be tested and OK in Wine per WineHQ: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=41311
Launching the app gets me as far as the Bose logo screen, then the following Wine error:
The program QtWebEngineProcess.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close.
Here's the full error log:
