Great interview here with Aaron Naughton worth a watch. Any other suggestions to fill the off-season void?
Does anyone have contacts with Sam Power? Just tell him to hurry up and sign them on. Surely we don't lose anyone important next year.
I just want bulldogs fans to be there for Macraes 250th. That is all.
Sign me up if this has merit to it
Of all the off season moves at the dogs this year, this is the most perplexing.
I noticed for this year the team were doing cheer squad specific memberships any idea if they’re doing that again or have they already all gone as I know with a bunch of other teams there’s a waitlist for being apart of the cheer squad. If there’s another way also that’d be appreciated if you let me know I mostly go to the footy alone and would like to change that.
Go Dogs 🐶 🔴⚪️🔵
There’s been a few posts here pretty negative about the trade period, which is completely fair given who left. I’m going to look at it a different way and take the positives, and try to look at it without emotion.
25 for Caleb Daniel is excellent value. He’s a player who was in and out of the side this past year and can be a liability down back due to his height. I really do think it was getting harder and harder to find a spot in the best 22 for him with how the team wants to play. That said, he’ll be a great in for North, adds a lot of experience and composure to a side that badly needs it. It’s clear we were happy to bring him back unless overs were paid, and they were.
Kennedy for Macrae (essentially) is not a like for like swap and there is no way Kennedy would be as effective as a midfielder as Jack was, but he likely won’t be playing there as much given who is in the side. Kennedy is a bit more versatile than Jack and can play forward a bit more naturally. He definitely has his work cut out for him as there are a few blokes gunning for that role.
Anyone who says they ‘caved’ or bent over to Geelong does not understand how this stuff works. Geelong were never giving up more than 17 - they were either trading it for Smith, or drafting Smith with it. The only thing that was up for debate was would the Bulldogs be compensated. It was a shit situation forced on the club and they took the only thing they could. Anyone who wishes the club walked Smith to the draft and came away with no compensation for their own pride, well let’s just say I’m glad you don’t manage our list.
Overall I do believe they made the best out of the hand that was dealt to them. They’ve now got 17 and 25 in a deep draft after not having a pick, and Power and co have a solid track record at the draft. Now to see what they can turn those picks into.
Honestly compared to two years ago. Seems pretty devastating for you Dogs supporters that you’ve lost Smith, Macrae and Daniel.
And received mediocre compensation
That sucked, we definitely took an L there. Daniel for 25 is the only good thing
I can't remember being this disappointed in the dogs in quite a few years, never been a bevvo bagger while all the dogs fans jumped on the hate bandwagon. Geez this one hurts, I understand his a bit slow and small, but he was easily one of my favourites, only thing that'll hurt more than this is if libba retires from concussion, or Bontempelli says his had enough next year. 😒
Good evening Lads and Ladettes. I am back after a night out to tell you what I couldn't when I thought of it earlier today. A megatrade to save our trade period, and make Dogs contend betterer than this year and next.
I have read your opinions about how we should just accept mediocrity, hit the draft, and hope youngings come on - and come on. We have prime Bont wasting away, as we put a bet on each way about pushing now or pushing for the future. Maybe what I propose is stupid. Admittedly, I don't really know O'Halloran well, nor what GWS value for him. so please correct that aspect if its off. Otherwise, I'm confident of the other bits.
So the megatrade involves Geelong-Tiges-Dogs-GWS.
Geelong's pick 17, future third for Smith (unders maybe, but worth it to get this deal done, and it'll probs get done an hour before deadline if Sam Power reads this).
Tiges give up recently acquired pick 20 and maybe a pack of chips for Caleb Daniel.
Dogs then package (worst case scenario, way overs) pick 17+20 for O'Halloran and a future second. Or pick 17+32 for just O'Halloran. Of course Power can open offering a diff combination of picks, the point is these deals give us capital to add another solid piece that's good fit. There's a lot of leveredge getting a few picks back would bring, that we currently lack in all negotiations.
Now. Is this Dogs getting unders on 3 separate deals, moving out Daniels, Smith, for O'Halloran + late picks whatevs it ends up, worth it? I think it is if they've successfully identified a gun without opportunity. It'd also suit Dogs salary cap wise to move out those guys, get one solid guy in. And if Dogs do get a future second back, it lets Dogs get immediately better while insuring more flexibility next trade period (the goal when in win now mode, as our chronically insecure small club seems to often lose focus of).
It doesn't have to be O'Halloran at back end of this deal either. Like if there's anyway (seems unlikely given reporting) to get in on Houston or Oliver, than it'd be awful not to try, and I'm sure Power would've.
We could trade Daniel/Smith, while using the return to target one of those best players available.
What I really wanna drive home here is, with the right aggression, willing to take a little under, we can actually add pieces who arn't just fringe guys with capped ceilings, but instead scope guys that're actually talented, have a point of difference about them.
And it will have to be a megatrade, cause otherwise moving Daniels on top of Smith won't be worth the lack of return imo. And I think Daniel would fit well at Tiges, he's somewhat a b grade shorter Liam Baker. And perhaps Baker would have to move to make Tiges keen to get these dominoes falling.
Can someone update me with any info or anything about what we're trying to achieve this week? Haven't heard a whole lot besides maybe O'Hallaran from Gws and the players wanting to get out. Just seems like we're being pretty inactive this period currently.
how do we feel about this? can be a very useful player but injuries have been a real problem for a long time now
how we feeling about this? i’m happy to hear this and hope he gets more chances next year
