I know it was posted a month ago but I just got around to opening the membership packs and they really are bad.

I've been a member since I was 6 years old with my father and kept my membership going myself in 2007 when he passed away when I was 16, so this just really feels like an insult. I have 3 adult memberships (took over two when Dad died), I don't even want to know how much this has cost me over the 28 years for……A lanyard, a sticker and a membership card (which I need because I have three passes) 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄

Club statement - January 26

This statement is attributed to the players, staff, and board of the Port Adelaide Football Club.

We respect that everyone has a right to their own views and do not speak on behalf of all members and stakeholders on this issue.

We acknowledge that the 26th of January is a day which represents sadness for many people in our club, and community.

We are committed to reconciliation and education through our actions and community programs.

We are proud of the important role we play on and off the field as role models in building better and more educated communities.

We stand with our First Nations people, and believe all Australians deserve to celebrate our great nation on a day that unites us all with pride and shared respect. On that basis, we advocate for changing the date.

How do we feel heading into this season?

I'm noticing a lot of mixed feelings heading into this season, most seem to be predicting we wont even come close to the top 8. Obviously losing Houston was huge but that sacrifice gave us a whole new forward line+ plus the return of SPP and Jezza and the inevitable improvement of our current forwards like Lord and Mitch . Our midfield will only improve and whilst our backline needs improvement it has shown some promise with the likes of Evans, BZT etc.

In theory, the boys should be as hungry as ever. It is no secret that it is Ken's last chance for at least a GF appearance. If he fails this time, he is gone; we know how much the boys love him so I'd like to think this plays a huge psychological factor in this coming season. There is even talk about a new game plan, even mentioning no more bombing into the forward line and adapting a faster play style which I like to hear. However, the pessimist in me just looks at our season through the past decade and thinks "same old port this year I suppose".

Ken Hinkley rumour

Rumour on Bigfooty from a certain reliable Carlton supporter is that Ken is telling people that this year will be his last year as coach at the club.

Depending on how you feel about Ken's coaching, we'll get to see if people were wrong or right about this or not as many have been screaming for a change for a long time now

Psyrick's 2025 Port Adelaide Preview

Hi all, I normally do the write-ups for the /r/AFL preseason previews but this year I have done a semi-write up analysis for a podcast I do (I am doing one of these for all teams). Nothing serious, it's more to practice my amateur AFL analysis, so I thought I would post the sections in the comment for people to have a squizz at. If anyone has any discussion points or things to talk about as we get hyped for the season to come. Despite the fustrations there are a lot of good to discuss, and like most of ya'll I am tempering my expectations but I think this year still has a lot of hope despite how last year ended.

The Only Thing More Painful Than Ports Finals Heartbreak...

Watching us lose in finals is like being repeatedly hit with a wet pool noodle—silly at first, but after the 10th whack, you're questioning your life choices. At least we can say we’re not bandwagon fans who show up only when the team’s winning. Let's all just collectively agree: we deserve better!

2025's Best 22

Our best 22 for 2025 per AFL.com: Your club's best 22 is:

B: Ryan Burton, Brandon Zerk-Thatcher, Logan Evans
HB: Darcy Byrne-Jones, Aliir Aliir, Miles Bergman
C: Jase Burgoyne, Willem Drew, Kane Farrell
HF: Willie Rioli, Jack Lukosius, Jason Horne-Francis
F: Joe Berry, Mitch Georgiades, Todd Marshall
Foll: Jordon Sweet, Zac Butters, Connor Rozee
I/C: Lachie Jones, Ollie Wines, Sam Powell-Pepper, Joe Richards

Emerg: Esava Ratugolea, Josh Sinn, Travis Boak, Jed McEntee

Is it wishful thinking to say that Boak makes our Round 1 team? Also DBJ down back feels weird. I know he was an AA HB but that feels like a lifetime ago. Are there any changes you would make to this?

Membership pack

I was sent the usual junk membership pack today, a plastic card that doesn’t admit me to any games, lanyard and badge.

What happened to the port store voucher in lieu of this landfill destined junk?

I thought it was automatic these days and you had to opt in to the merch

Mock 2024 best 22

Summary

  1. Conner Rozee - Moving him to half back gives Port an instant boost replacement for Houston (Anyone who thinks we wont miss 2x AA HB doesnt know how important rebound footy is in todays game) Conner gives us an attacking rebounder and skilled player to go through down back, who can be a match winner in any position.

  2. Mitch Georgians - CHB?? Yep, kids got the height we need down there and the footy brain to become an Elite talent down back. (Hawthorn did this with Sicily and I see alot of common traits between to two) Is a good forward and this move makes sense with Lord in the them.

  3. Ollie Lord - Gets til the mid season bye to prove he can be a AFL FF, if he can be the player to kick 40+ goals for the next 10 years for Port. This year is his year to prove he can be.

  4. Back Pocket - Went with Williams as he can play a lockdown role, since Alir will be freed up to float. This spot will be hot up for grabs with Atkins, Sinn & Co looking for spots in the team.

  5. Midfield - Even without Rozee in the rotations, its still an Elite Midfield. JHF will spend alot of time in there. Boak, SPP & Mead will likely see some time in the centre. Butters will do Butters things, wines will rack up possie & Drew will be the defensive mid.

  6. Rucks - Sweet is the front runner, then I'd honestly consider Finlayson as a 2nd ruck before playing Soldo.

  7. Finlayson - Maybe getting too old and his fitness is a big if! But he plays a true switch role in this line up. Wing, Ruck, FF even CHB if needed at times. If fit, he's a great asset and mature footballer that adds so much to the team.

  8. Burgoyne & Bergman - Will likely switch alot pending on match ups week to week. Both players are locks in the starting 22.

  9. Berry - Ports gotta get games into their kids, whats the point of playing around so much at trade season and not give them a real crack. Sydney coach, Horse always bloods his young talent and with Ports weak drafts over the past few years. They need to get everything out off the kids they've got. Berry should be in the 22 every week unless injured.

  10. Reserves - 1st off, Rat! Just hasn't worked out. Adds good depth for our fwds & backs but not in best 22. Joe Richards will likely start as SPP will miss early, so a big pre season and a hot start will lock his spot in the side. Marshall & Burton, good players when in form but out of favour atm.

Sinn & McEntee will get games when injuries pop up. But a fringe players at best unless they take their games to another level.

Whitlock, Young talent. Lucky score in the Draft for Port I believe. Is the next in line for tall fwd's if Lord & Lukas cant hit the score board. One of these 3 needs to kick 50+ goals. Big if, Our biggest weakness in the side. Which is why the Georgians move maybe controversial. But we're exposed down back to often, If Port had a Sicily type player down back you can rebound and play more counter-attack footy which favours our small fwd-line.

Purely a Fan Made team! But its only 78 sleeps til Footy is back!
