Thoughts on best 22

My changes would be DBJ forward for Marshall. Farrell takes his position down back Boak takes free wing spot Trial it, if we are too small and need some forward presence one of lord/marshall/finlayson/esava to come in at expense of one of the smalls - I’d be leaning lord in Richard’s out. Otherwise I like what we have, fully expect another good season and short come finals 🥲

W Team Selection for FW1 discussion

Thoughts on the ins and outs?

I think we all knew Scholz and Dowrick were the locks, Teakle was a watch considering her time out + who does she replace in that forward line.

Miller and Keryk made sense as outs despite playing their roles well enough and I think showing enough to be at the level within their roles. The eye test though tells me that Stewart was a bit unheralded but playing her role of that small, hard-nosed high half forward that halves contests, breaks lines or delivers it nicely i50/gets on the receiving end of that kick.

Teakle at her best (early season) was a handful and now that Gem and Saint have found some form, it hopefully alleviates some of the 2-3v1s they cop by stretching the height of the Richmond backline and limiting their ability to peel off smaller and lesser forwards to go intercept. But I really thought Stewart had been strong so it sucks for her as she couldn’t do much more. Wedland and Mules possibly do her role “better” with Pope able to also roll into it with more versatility up the ground?

Keen to hear others thoughts - I admittedly don’t know heaps about Richmond’s list, but from listening to some of the W podcasts it seems they play a pretty polarising brand to Port and are defensively set up well to intercept so bombs in hope to the talls are bound to be cut off which worries me with bringing in a third tall. Getting out the back and beyond that wall though is apparently a weakness of Richmond, hence why I think Stewart out is potentially a worry when Teakle isn’t about to break lines back to goal if a kick clears the defensive wall. But perhaps that becomes Gemma/Saint if Teakle gets the bigger defensive match up as they both have strong running power. Also backing in our ability to win the contest and clearance to catch the backline off guard a bit too perhaps?
