Warrington Wordle (#21) 🧠

When we get to the end of the month, I might do a rundown of all the previous Wordle’s on the newsletter. That way, if you only signed up a month or so ago, you can go back and play all the old ones.

Here is today’s Wordle. If you need it, there is a clue at the bottom of the newsletter.

Where were we on Wednesday? 🤔 📸

If you were wondering where we were on Wednesday, it was Queens Gardens, which is in the middle of Palmyra Square. Most of you got this correct that replied via email or on our Instagram. If you want to see the picture, check out u/fromwarrington on Instagram.

Weather ⛅️

Here is your forecast for the weekend. It will drop to lows of 4 this weekend. Not long before, we will be scraping the ice off the car! 🥶

Friday - 🌤️ 13° - 4°
Saturday - 🌧️ 14° - 5°
Sunday - 🌧️ 14° - 10°

Sport 🏉

⚽️ Warrington Town don’t play their next match until the 5th of October.

🏉 Warrington vs. St Helens, 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. It's our first play-off game, and judging by how poorly the Saints have been playing lately and the fact that we are at home, you have to think this is a game we can’t lose. It looks likely to be a big crowd. If you still need tickets, you can get them here.

Thanks 👍️

Any nearby hikes or trips for excursions?

Hi all!

My partner and I recently moved to Warrington for our work, and are looking for ways to spend the weekend.

Apart from Bank Park or Palymra square, we haven't really been hanging out in nature much :/. Also thinking of going to the meditation centre on Academy street.

Does anyone recommend maybe a bus route that goes to somewhere more interesting, maybe somewhere with ducks or other mild wildlife?

Also open to any advice for relaxing activities in general...

Thanks!

Coyotes or the like?

Do these live in and/or around Warrington? I was outside just now (02:38) and something just ran off when it heard me coming.. it was fairly dark but in the street light far off I could just make out that it was definitely not a cat, and it was definitely not a dog… I am Canadian so naturally I think: coyote. But please correct me if I’m wrong!

Is there a Statue of Liberty in Warrington?

It says this on the wiki article on replicas of the Statue of Liberty:

A 10-foot-high (3.0 m) replica is in the stairwell of a bowling alley building in Warrington, England. It used to be above the entrance of a restaurant nearby.

I've googled to no avail. Does or did this actually exist, and if so where was the restaurant?

Looking for players for TTRPG

Hello Warrington,

For about half a year I have bee running a small TTRPG group (if you don't know think Dungeons and Dragons) and I wanted to increase our group size by a couple of people.

The group currently consists of 4 players of mixed genders and myself. We are all around 30 years old and most of the players are very new to the hobby. We are playing the pathfinder first edition rules system, which I am happy to teach if you don't know it (as I said most of the players are new and are also still learning).

We meet every other Thursday at 7p.m. and play for around 2 hours.

Please do reach out if you are interested in playing or have any more questions!

Good place to buy firewood?

About to move to a place with a wood burning stove. Where's the best place to get firewood in bulk?

Have room to season wood so doesn't all need to be kiln dried stuff.

Dim sum

Looking for somewhere to go for dim sum before heading to Knowsley Safari Park tomorrow. I've found Mr Lau's and Yum Cha - Which one is better for authentic homemade dim sum? I feel like it's Mr Lau's but they don't do Cantonese roasties (only char siu) and they only do rice noodle rolls on Sundays.

Areas of Newton-Le-Willows

Hi, hope it's ok to ask here. We're currently looking at moving within the Warrington/St Helens area. Currently we live near Lea Green in St Helens.

We've seen some properties come up in N-L-W, one of them is in the north near Tully Park. Does anyone know what the area is like? Crime stats say it comes under Earlstown, but as it's further away from the station/market I'm not sure if it's not actually rough?

TIA :)

Warrington NFL Fans?

Recently moved to Warrington for work last week (living in town centre) and hoping to meet new people.

I enjoy watching NFL Sundays so wondering if there are any groups established who already like to get together and watch games? Or anyone keen to go for a pint some Sundays and watch?

Also if anyone knows of places likely to be showing it I’d be grateful to hear ty

Commuting from Newton-le-Willows to Manchester

Anyone commuting from Newton-le-Willows to Manchester that can tell me roughly how much it costs per month? Trainline is saying £272 which I find a bit shocking. Any railcards that can be used across borders between merseyside and greater Manchester that would bring the price down? Thank you ☺️

How likely is it that the Warrington-Wigan HS2 train line is going to be built in the next decade?

Sorry, I know that probably reads as a daft question. I'm looking at buying a new build between Warrington and Wigan, but only after we've expressed interest in reserving a plot have we been informed that the HS2 line between Warrington and Wigan is due to be built about 250m away from the estate.

I know that the plans to build it were scrapped last year, but I also know there have been discussions to still build a high speed rail link between Warrington and Wigan.

At the moment, we're leaning towards not going ahead with the purchase because of the risk that a high speed rail line would bring lots of building work nearby and completely decrease the value of the house in the future. But I don't know if I'm being hasty and potentially losing out on what otherwise seems like a dream house based on a train line that probably won't get funded for twenty years, given the state of the country's finances.

If anyone more knowledgeable about this than me could offer their opinion or any advice, I'd be hugely grateful!

Hi everyone. Currently going through a very difficult time (separation / not seeing my little boy) and I struggle with knowing what to do in the evenings, I’ve been going to the gym, watching movies, doing house stuff but I feel a bit ‘empty’ - just looking for ideas, if anyone is in a similar situation, etc and just putting myself out there really… thanks everyone!
