I’m 16 and applied for a server position, got scheduled an interview for Friday. the only other places I’ve been interviewed are Wendy’s and Pizza Hut, and so far I’ve heard back from neither ☠️
this would be my first job and ngl I have no real work experience. I have open availability (all my classes are online), I did volunteer work over the summer, and I’m fluent in spanish. is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting hired, or will it ultimately just depend on whoever interviews me? thanks for any help :)
also… should I call before my interview or do they actually check for them? it was scheduled by that AI thing on the site and both of tbe places I was interviewed at before didn’t know I had one before I called to ask.
Going to Waffle House for the first time tomorrow. What’s your order?
I'm nervous and excited.
Local Waffle House sign.
So I’ve noticed a lot of people don’t take the actual “hour lunch” that is supposedly unpaid. Is it still taken out of the paystub?
The old flavor bucket caught in the wild
Feeling quite anxious and likely overthinking. Advice would be appreciated
I'm aware most unit managers start out at around 55k and can make around 65k if they hit all their bonuses but do you get raises after that as a manager? Does your bi weekly pay ever raise after years of being there?
I think I've heard they have a bonus they get every 6 months and it increases every year from what I can tell. Is that the only way your pay raises?
Basically how much would you make just as a unit manager after 10 years? No promotions to district or higher, unit manager only.
Real question. The menu at WH is good, but...
Nothing compares to those hashbrowns, man. Get them chunked, smothered, country'd...
It's delightful.
Can I just get the hashbrowns, or will the server give me a dirty look?
I wonder how many scoops of hashbrowns I'd need before it's not a ridiculously cheap order.
Question to employees how do you feel about this? In my state Rockstar is 15 an hour. Then I work night shift so I get 16 + 1 more dollar for 3rd shift supervisor. So on 3rd shift it's 17 an hour before bonuses. If I clock in on 1st or 2nd shift to help my store out I get 15 base rate.
Now I called corporate and asked if the system was working as intended and basically they said it was. Their answer was "it depends how you clock in" and that there "is no supervisor position for 1st shift." I agreed because obviously that's the unit manager spot. They said there is a 2nd shift supervisor. I was actually denied this spot even tho I occasionally work 2nd shift. Anyway how do you employees feel about this pay cut. Fair or no?
It seems especially unfair when my manager asks me to switch hours and work 1st or 2nd shift for 15 instead of 17. As in SAME HOURS but at a LOWER RATE. Normally I'm ok with working extra hours because more hours is more money but to switch hours and get paid less seems unfair.
Any other 3rd shift supervisors out there what do you get paid on 1st or 2nd and how do you feel about it?
I was fired and put on EFR list after working for 10yrs over 15 yrs ago. How do I get removed from list?
Hi again! I posted a few days ago about my in unit - for a Sunday morning, it went well! I have training next week, but I was curious just about the size of the order pads/guest checks? I’m ordering a server book thing and I want to make sure it fits. Is it just standard? Thanks!
Hey everyone I start UM in training tomorrow and I’m wondering if we get paid OT for anything over 40 hours and then do we get bonuses during the 12-14 or is that after?

Hi there!! I have an in unit tomorrow at 8am so this is unfortunately super last minute lol but I just stumbled upon this subreddit so I figured I’d give it a shot cause I have some questions.
1, what exactly is an unit? I asked if it was like a shadow shift and she said not really. Do they offer everyone an in unit or is it leaning towards me getting the job?
2, she said they would give me a shirt when I got there and to wear a plain white shirt or white button down, I asked if a plain black tshirt was okay and she said yes. She said slacks and nonslip shoes so I’m guessing I’ll be working to some degree? ANYWAYS lol, the question here is how does the uniform sizing work? I’m plus sized, I’m not sure what size uniform to ask for. A men’s 2x is comfortable for me in tshirts.
I’ve never served before so any tips would be super helpful I’m nervous lol. I’ve worked at Taco Bell for about two years on and off but that’s it. Any advice is appreciated, thank you!!
Well… I’ll be starting back work for Waffle House starting next Thursday. It’s kinda mixed feelings honestly! I hate working in the food industry, like really just have no other choice. (Nothing against Waffle House and/or any other restaurants) I’m excited to start back working again. Been since start of Covid I held a real job. ( family reasons I quit managing a UPS Store to take care of a grandparent whom passed) plus I went to prison for close to two years 🙄 another story for another thread. Not sure why I am posting this but hey here it is. And don’t like it? I’ll lick your toast 👅
Hello I just started at waffle house but unfortunately was out of a job for all of Oct. meaning that (with today being the first) I dont have any money to go towards rent. If I dont pay the entirety of my rent by Nov. 5 my apartment complex will start the eviction process. Are there any resources that would help prevent me from being homeless?
My husband went to Waffle House this morning (November 1st) and they told him they were not allowing people to dine-in today because it's Halloween. So he left and went to Dennys.
One, why would they not allow dine-in on Halloween? Two, it's not even Halloween!?
He said he was extremely confused and now I am too. He said they were open and there was no sign on the door or anything, the lady just refused to let him dine in.
What is going on??
Double hash browns
I just got offered to join a jump team from my division manager, but I don't have many details on the topic as the request came from my UM. what do they do? what should be expected? Will i have to drive? do they have transportation? what about food? where will we stay?
Local Waffle House always gives me mostly soggy hash browns, and I was wondering what to say to order them crispy. I've found oddly contradictory results.
Some places say that Waffle House scatters the raw potatoes across the grill by default, and "scattered" just means you're ordering hash browns.
Others say that they're normally cooked inside a ring, and "scattered" means you want them spread thinly so they'll get crispy all through.
Which one is true?
My family and I were traveling from Alabama to Texas. We stopped in a lot of Waffle Houses along the way each morning for breakfast. In some small town in Louisiana, I took a picture of my son in front of the Waffle House Jukebox and the waitress kind of looked at us funny.
I told her that we do not have WH, where we are from. She asked where we were from. I told her well you probably never heard of it but it's a small suburb in Los Angeles. She then told me that her grandparents to moved to Los Angeles, and that when she was a kid she used to go stay every summer with her grandparents. I asked her "oh Yeah where did they live?' She said our city name, I looked at her and said "Oh My God, that is where we live!" She said yeah I used to walk down to the park and she described the park, I said yeah that is down the street from our house. I then told her our street name and she didn't recognize it but she told me her Grandparents street, I said that is litterally two streets away from us. I said your grandparents are our neighbors, she laughed and we both were like OMG what a small world.
What are the odds that we run into a waitress in some small town in Louisana who's grandparents are our neighbors in Los Angeles.
