Extended Warranty - Should I?

I just bought a 21 Tiguan that has a year and a half basically left on the original warranty.

Is buying an extended warranty worth it?

The Tiguan has 41k miles.

After 4 years of neglecting my Lupo, finally making a start on it this week

Bought this to do my driving test in, and to learn about the internals and maintenance, modifications, so on. One Failed theory test, pandemic and a return to education later, I finally got to a position I could make a start on it haha.

Changing components in a Tiguan?

I’m new to this “new car” thing I only ever drove a hand me down that didn’t care what you changed as long as it wasn’t important. I was considering swapping my CarPlay screen with the flush version and maybe adding fog lights. Anyone know if this is a bad idea?

Help! What do those two circles on the right mean?

This is a fan control module with part number 357 919 506 A. Can I change it with one that has part no. 357 919 506? There are some differences in the pins. Can someone explain the symbol with two circles? Also the pin readout.

2024 VW Atlas - Curt Echo no blue light problem

Just got this car and when connecting the curt echo brake controller I get no blue light. Which means no power to the controller so I can’t bind with app on phone and configure it.

I read somewhere you need to connect tom harness to draw power from TV to the controller. Anyone have a similar experience?

Oil gasket??

My gf has a 2015 Passat Wolfsburg and tried to change her own oil. Next day I noticed a huge stain on the drive way, looked under and saw it was leaking from the drain plug. Change the plug but didn’t work so i assumed the oil pan was stripped and of course i bought a new one to replace. I don’t normally worked on VW’s and I’ve changed plenty of oil pans before. But as I looked up videos on the process I noticed there were no gaskets in each video. So my question is, do Passats normally have oil pan gaskets? Or is it just sealant?

Passat 2017, how to retreive lost navigation?

I tried to setup the sound on my navigation and went the wrong way, completely lost the factory navigation, and it asks me now to insert disc for navigation. Im stuck. No navigation at all.

Have I permanently lost the factory navigation or I can still get it back, and how?

Rear window is stuck

Have a 2009 vw golf and randomly the rear driver side window for stuck on it's way up. It moves up and down but when I pull the tab to draw the windows up, it stops half way. It sounds like it's struggling to keep going because it doesn't stop abruptly, but rather slows down and then stops.

The first time after turning the car on, I think the pinch safety is triggering because it will go back down automatically one time.

Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it? I tried resetting the windows by pressing and holding down all the individual window tabs for 5 seconds but that didn't work. Thanks!

Turbo Failure 1.8T

Well, after hitting a hard acceleration leaving work I heard a loud pop, which indicated something came loose in the system. Via the picture provided I was diagnosed as such, local shop that doesn’t directly deal with VW but are certified quoted me $9400 for the whole job, keep in mind this is a 2014 Jetta Se with 148000. I know that was a lot considering I had the timing chain done around 10k miles ago and whole job with parts and labor was 2200 at certified VW shop. My main plan is to trade it and see what I can get towards a different vehicle at this point. I believe the original dealership I purchased from had bad practice unfortunately, nothing but problems since I’ve gotten it. Any suggestions on what to do moving forward?

What to do with a 2008 Jetta with power steering failure

Fellow Redditors, I’m in a quandary. I have a 2008 Jetta SE 2.5 with 125,000 miles on the clock. Great shape other than a few dings, no major issues, newer tires, still runs good..only minor annoyances. EXCEPT, just the other day the power steering went out. Red warning on the dash and everything. Since it’s EPS (no hydraulics/fluid/etc) I tried the typical troubleshooting. No broken wires, blown fuses, and I disconnected the battery for a while to no avail. Took it to a shop and they said the EPS module and rack need replaced, along with tie rod ends and MAP sensor (to re-set the steering, I think). The repair quote was for around $3k or so for parts and labor.

Here’s my issue: the car only blue books for around $4k or so. Unfortunately I overpaid two years ago when I bought it (lingering Covid inventory issues)…water under the bridge at this point. It’s not that I can’t afford it, but I would feel stupid putting $3k into a $4k car. It’s still a good car other than the steering and a couple minor gremlins. It’s my commuter car, so a “spare” than I can live without for a while as I have another car to get me to work.

So should I bite the bullet and get it fixed? Or spend another couple hundred in diagnostics to get a second opinion? Or sell it as-is for a significantly reduced price? Or pray it gets stolen? (just kidding insurance man). Donate it for a tax break? What am i not thinking of?

TLDR; car is broke and not sure what to do with it. Ideas?

Thanks!

SOS Light

Since the day I drove my brand new 2024 GLI home, I’ve been plagued with the “Error: Emergency Call Function. Please service vehicle” problem and issues with CarNet and cell issues. After two service trips and 4 days without my car, they finally replaced the communications module today.

Car-Net seems to work much better now (before the app would only connect like 10% of the time), and I haven’t gotten that SOS error that I was getting almost daily.

But I notice the green light next to the SOS button goes off when in areas of weak cell service. Is this normal?

car won’t start after unlocking the steering wheel - 2000 Jetta

i have a 2000 jetta and occasionally the wheel will lock. usually i turn the wheel slightly and turn the key in the ignition and it starts right up and fixes the problem. however this time i was able to unlock the wheel but my car won’t turn over and the breaks are sticky. i tried shifting gears, jiggling the wheel, pumping the breaks and also turning it on and off again but nothing seems to work. has anyone had this problem before and know how to fix it? help?

Key Question - Anybody else??

I drive a 2012 Jetta. I drive it to and from work, I take the kids to their friend's houses, no long distance driving.

My car came with two key fobs. The first time I'd ever had a car with these things. I never use the key for the doors, (because why?). About two years ago, in the winter I noticed when I used the fob to unlock my doors, the driver side door wouldn't unlock. So almost every day I'm climbing into my car through the passenger side door. Unless someone is riding with me. When it got warmer out, the driver side door started unlocking again.

Anyway, it happened again this winter, but this time I had an a-ha! moment and remembered the key on the fob. I attempted to put it in the door and it went in there like, a quarter inch? And I couldn't turn it. So I had to climb in through the passenger door. This stopped when it warmed up.

Well, now my fob is really freaking out. I've changed the battery and tried to reset/reprogram it. I got out the other fob and it's doing the same thing. It also doesn't work in the door. Both keys work in the glove box though.

All of this to ask, is it normal for the keys on the key fobs to not work in the doors??? And should I take my car to the VW dealership to have this looked at?

Thank you.
