This group is for the discussion of the religion of Vodou. For now, it is focused on the Haitian tradition, but I welcome links and discussions of West African, New Orleans, or other related traditions.
This Group is open to everyone. I don't do background checks. If you are looking for a Group that is focused on one particular tradition or lineage, this is not it. If you feel strongly that your tradition or lineage is the only true path, you probably won't be happy here.
*Keep it clean: no name-calling, no swearing at people. No personal attacks due to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity. No personal attacks due to anything, ever, or you're out of here. Act like a grown-up, ok? Basic common courtesy applies.
*Keep it sane: This Group is a public, online forum. If you post something, be prepared for alternate & dissenting opinions. If you are seeking validation, a public online forum is a terrible way to go about it. If you are seeking information, we can help. But there is a limit to how much you can learn online. If you want to understand & practice Vodou, an In Real Life community & mentor is what you need.
We welcome people who are just curious, new practitioners, and experienced Mambos and Houngans.

Just wanted to check - has anyone heard of vidajan, azogue, or other kinds of mercury products being used in Haitian Vodou and 21 Divisiones circles, specifically for fèy and other compounds? I heard there were some folks in the DR selling these and advocating to mix vidajan with agua florida before sprinkling across the house (causing vapor dangers), but I wanted to check if this was mainstream or no longer done nowadays
Has anyone else struggled with losing faith and trust?
I understand the reason why, maybe in the past, Metres Freda was depicted as a mulatto woman. But why is she still portrayed that way?
I have to be honest, as a dark skin woman, I've already dealt with the colorism in my community, hell it's a big thing in Africa with the skin bleaching. So even though Freda is my met tet, it just feels odd to me, it just feels like I can't relate with her.
How does Freda appear to you guys? Because someone told me that she appears in their dreams as a fair skinned or white woman like Madonna.
Does voodoo have a Sabbath? If so what day of the week is it and what should I be doing?
Hello everyone,
I recently had a spiritual court reading with a knowledgeable and kind Mambo, and overall, the experience was incredible. She provided me with a wealth of information about the Lwa who walk with me and gave guidance on how to properly venerate them.
However, there’s one aspect of the reading that’s been on my mind, and I’d love some insights from this community. During the session, the Mambo said that my Met Tèt appeared to her.
From what I’ve read, the revelation of one’s Met Tèt typically happens during a lave tèt (head washing ceremony) or Kanzo (initiation). I’m wondering if it’s possible for an experienced Mambo to discern someone’s Met Tèt during a reading, or if this is something that should only come to light through ritual processes.
I trust the Mambo I worked with, and I’m not doubting her abilities—it’s just that I want to approach this path with the utmost respect and authenticity. Just wanted to give a note she comes from a background in 21 Divisions so I'm not sure if there even is a Kanzo process for that lineage.
For those who’ve walked this path longer or undergone similar experiences, what are your thoughts? Can your Met Tèt be revealed outside of a lave tèt or Kanzo? How should I proceed with this information?
I’d appreciate any guidance or perspectives you can offer. Thank you in advance!
is it best to do work to get an ex partner back or to attract new love? I have been doing some research on this type of service and I would like to know the opinion of others who have tried or done love spells in their relationship. do they work and did you get the desired results.
Does anyone know anyone reputable that does good fast work in Miami Florida
Blessings
I know Ive seen some spirits do this at dans/fèt/eksetera but I'm curious if this is common or unique to specific spirits?
So I don't have a rattle as used in many ATR, I have a big ol calabash that basically does the same thing...make noise. Though it is typically used for singing & praising, do you think I could also use it to call spirits?
On February 2nd I had a visit from a spirit that wasn’t within my usual “circle”. I am normally only visited by spirits that come from human like energy. She was incredibly powerful. I don’t believe she was a spirit belonging to a human. The energy was ethereal. She had red hair and a face that was white, with a luminescence I had never seen before. She had no eyes or mouth. I knew she needed to tell me something but I lost consciousness shortly after seeing her.
On the 7th she came again, this time only as a head. She let me know that she was taking care of things. It was a message for someone I knew whose daughter had been killed earlier that year. She also showed me a green leaf folded in half. And something like a crab or a turtle in the same light green color.
She hasn’t visited again, but as of recent I feel like I’m being followed. The presence feels like hers but masculine. Animals can see him. Cats will hiss when they see him. My dogs can see him following us up the stairs to our apartment and they’re scared of him. He has not shown himself to me. I feel like he is tied to the woman who visited.
This has been going on for quite some time. I have tried to make offerings so that he can show himself and tell me what he needs from me. But I may be going about it the wrong way.
I would like some help. I’m in South Florida in Fort Lauderdale and I would like to get a reading to see if it’s an Iwa that is following me.
I am halfhaitian. I’m aware my haitian parent was an avid practitioner in the religion.
Ive been learning creole recently. Lasiren showed up in a dream of mine and she gave me a loving hug. I remember being star struck by this beautiful mermaid and felt honored she was recognizing and embracing me. She didnt speak with her mouth but I felt a warm and loving welcome. Almost like a cool girl or a princess saying “yeah you can totally sit with us” lol.
Okay now, while this was a sweet experience, what do I do about it? Maybe nothing? A friend told me to leave a small candle and water for her in the evening and ask her what she wants. Maybe she doesnt want anything though? Hmm. I went to the beach and asked her what she wants, no response or indication of a response months later. Maybe it was just a gesture. Or could it be my imagination??
The internet is mean, and some of you are going to dismiss me! Please respond with compassion, I’m merely curious and have been mediating and becoming a more spiritual person over the past year. Im growing in my journey and want to know what the community thinks of this. Fyi other parent is african and strictly christian so no all this lwa/vodou knowledge is new to me.
Any thoughts?!
Hey, so I'm new to Vodou & I realize that some of the Lwa come in pairs (La Siréne & Agwe, Damballah & Ayida Wedo, Baron Samedi & Mamon Bridgitte...).
I was wondering if one of them, say Damballah, is your Met Tet, does that mean you have to receive or initiate Ayida as well?
Can someone who is Haitian and in the Vodou practice message me I would like a reading from you. But first please write me on here I’ll be selective in your karma, your posts and your experience so don’t be upset if I ask questions.
I (26F) have always felt a deep resonance with Vodou but I live in a southern, very Christian, town. I feared I may be appropriating a culture not inherited (very mixed lineage African American) but I have had so many coincidences surrounding Vodou occur. Things like having videos and books about Orishas or Haitian Vodou randomly recommended to me, gifted divination cards, invites to NOLA, etc.
I also feel a deep affinity to air and water. I have dreams of the ocean, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, and flight pretty often. Sometimes I am in control and sometimes I am not. I can’t fight this feeling my ancestors or spirit guides want me to know more. Any guidance is highly appreciated.
A hougan told my friend that working with petro Loa will not have any negative repercussions on her because she's the client. That only the hougan will receive any negative consequences, not her because she's just the client. Is this true?
FYI- My friend is not initiated. The work she's doing with the hougan is a curse removal. Just in case anyone was curious
And if I am allowed to practice this religion. Where do I begin? All of my family are Christian. I’ve always questioned organized religions and thought they were used as a tool for control / therapy for delusional people I want to do mindful things like maybe appreciate my ancestors, protect myself, and harness power. I don’t want to come in the religion with bad intentions. I’m not sure where to begin.
What lwa would you associate with knowledge, learning, studying and intellect?
Possible reasons why your work did not manifest after paying a practitioner:
You mess up your own work and not follow the advice of the practitioner
The practitioner is an amateur and not experienced
The practitioners spirits are not aligned and they have no business doing work for people
The work requires multiple work to get the ONE desired outcome (this should be discussed upfront)
Your spirits may block it from happening. This should be discussed upfront and getting permission from your own spirits to allow the work to manifest
The work needs to be layered and worked on multiple times. Practitioners who care, will dedicate time to touch on your work to ensure progress
There’s a third party or more involved (for love work). This should be discussed up front.
The target already has a working on them, this should be discussed in the beginning with a plan of action
The practitioner doesn’t care about all of the above and will only perform a portion of the work.
Or the practitioner didn’t do the work
Keep in mind, it’s not the practice's fault, it’s a human error.

Is there any good resources on 21 Divisions? Who are some reputable Priests/Priestess in Dominican Vodou?
Does New Orleans Vodou require innitation? Is there any books on New Orleans Vodou that is recommended?
Looking for the lyrics to this one. Thanks in advance 🙏🏾✨😌🧿
Now I'm a newcomer to Vodou in general. I have never really been one of spirituality or theism so to speak. But as of late, that being the last few years. I am plagued by the petitioning to know more.
Therefore, I was wondering if anyone here knew any Manbo or links I could use to get in contact so that I may inquire about the possibility of Lwa and their presence in my life?
So I have been looking into this a lot and I want to know
how it works
how to do it
what it does
Because vodou sounds so intriguing but I have no idea how to perform any rituals or anything, please could someone help me?
Does anyone know of an experienced Houngan or Manbo that does personal readings and spiritual work that they can recommend?
I have a genuine question what is the difference between Houngan/Manbo vs Bokor?
Is the rosary strictly only to saints? Or can we pray the rosary ancestors, and the lwa?
Usually when I want to pray the rosary to them I do it in honor of the lwa but to the saint.
