Moderator Drive/Temporary Shutdown

So long story short, given that I have no way of really booting to Windows (all I have are MacBooks with awkward partition tables) and that the other moderators are just straight-up busy (with real life things), we are:

  • Looking for more moderators (individuals looking to lead discussions). If you're at all interested, just send in a modmail and we'll get you set-up. Bonus points if you're willing to finish the CHAOS;HEAD discussion series, or start the Fate/Stay Night one.

  • Temporarily shutting down discussions as a matter of circumstance.

Sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

[Meeting ? for Chaos;Head] Okay, I lied

My laptop is completely trashed. I can't boot to Windows anymore, and I don't have a good/fast way of recovering the data quickly (the partition table is ruined). I don't know what to say or do, except I probably won't be able to do this for the foreseeable future.

[Meeting 2 for Chaos;Head] And we're back

Sorry that I can't count and that I had to dip on you guys last week. Apparently my family loves me.

Intro

First time discusser? Here's the drill: each week we talk about last week's reading, and at the same time, you are given next week's reading, along with any choices necessary to stay on the current route. That being said, Chaos;Head (apparently) doesn't have a lot of those. So...

Mac OS X Users

Sorry, you're screwed. Chaos;Head doesn't run in Wine. Like, at all. Go, umm, Boot Camp or VirtualBox or something.

This week's reading/walkthrough

For those having already read, we'll be discussing this part next week:

In addition to standard (?) Visual Novel choices, Chaos;Head uses non-standard hallucination triggers. More specifically, if you hear "pinging" and see green/red lights moving across the top of the game window, that's normal - feel free to click on one of the two lights/areas the light passes through. Green usually corresponds to comedic or perverted. Red usually corresponds to dark/cynical or gory. Choices really shouldn't matter until Chapter 6/10 (depending on who you are), but since I'll be stopping at specific lines of text again, I suggest clicking on the green ones when possible.

Walkthrough Part 2

Stop at the following line:

"....Hehehe, FES is so ero."

Season 5 Tiebreaker Results

https://docs.google.com/a/projectexist.net/forms/d/1fKS6JbHrqySf6OW-vi5YSM-peJi4Fv92uUBfGKzKyI4/viewanalytics

All I can say is that it's called a Tiebreaker for a reason.

We'll set up for

  • Session A: Fate/stay Night

  • Session B: Chaos;Head, Narcissu, Narcissu side 2nd

shortly. Again, please "message the moderators" or reply with questions.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1AY880oaI0MGr9Ubsms454GCVgh7kD_i7z4v14kTSR50/viewanalytics?usp=form_confirm

What that means is:

  • We will be discussing Fate/stay Night. That should get started within the week.

  • We'll figure out how we want to handle the tie-like situation this time around. Expect the tiebreaker to be:

(Chaos;Head and both Narcissu games) versus (Tsukihime)

If anyone's unhappy about that, please let me know.

Session 5 Nominations

A lot more translations have been released recently than I realized, so rather than just use the Session 4 runner-ups (although I went ahead and pre-nominated those), here we go...

Nominations

Pretty much the same thing as last time, just leave a comment here. We did three games last time; fourth place isn't getting a default nomination.

...be as messy or organized as you want; start a new sub-thread, reply to one, second a nomination, put multiple nominations in a single comment, build a house, whatever, as I will read every comment. It is preferable that you include at least a single sentence of justification to go along with each game nomination.

Also please be certain that the game is either completely release in full English, or is at 90%+ translation, and that the game is not purely eroge (the game should have some literary merit/value).

Nominations with semi-reasonable justifications will be thrown into an online poll.

Already nominated

Midriff

  • 999 (10-30 hrs) (Emulator Ready)
  • Narcissu 1+2 (4-20 hrs)

Long Johns

  • Coμ (30-50 hrs)
  • Ever17 -the out of infinity- (30-50 hrs)
  • Tsukihime (30-50 hrs)
  • Muv-Luv Alternative (50+ hrs)
  • Fate/stay Night (50+ hrs)

[Final Meeting for Little Busters!] "SUUUUUPER SLAAAAM"

Hello folks! It's time for the Grand Finale! The discussion to end all discussions!

Talk about anything and everything! Please spoiler tag anything related to:

  • The Drama CDs

  • EX/ME content

Here are a couple questions to kick us off:

  • Who went through the most dramatic change within the story, and how was this characterized in text?

  • Was Riki or Komari more important to Rin's development? Why?

  • What did baseball represent?

For the next meeting, get ready, cause it's time for the WWE SUPER SLAM full Little Busters discussion! Yeah!

Make sure you're using spoiler tags if you want to discuss points that we have not read up to! (This basically means the Drama CDs, as well as EX/ME content). Instructions are on the sidebar.

Remember, this is a discussion of only the segment we read. We discuss everything, in its entirety, next week.

[Meeting 18 for Little Busters!] "Reunion"

Almost time to finish it off!

Last meeting, you should have read until the Final Episode.

For the next meeting, complete Little Busters!

I recommend doing one run-through before consulting the walkthrough (here's the one I'm using). You shouldn't run over time even with multiple runs.

This reading should take about four hours. If it takes you much longer than four hours to reach the next checkpoint, please file a complaint with HR.

Make sure you're using spoiler tags if you want to discuss points that we have not read up to! Instructions are on the sidebar.

[Meeting 7 for Sharin no Kuni]

Welcome to the /r/vndiscuss readthrough of Sharin no Kuni, Himawari no Shoujo If you're new or not sure of how everything works, this is the gist of it: every new meeting I give out a 4 hour(approximately) long segment of the novel for you to read. Material from all previous meetings is fine to talk about, this may change depending on different novels, but for everything from later parts or the segment given in the same meeting spoiler tags will be enforced. Instructions for spoiler tags are in the side bar.

Bad Endings do not count towards the timer but are treated as part of the segment where the choice is located.

<- Meeting 6 | Meeting 8 ->

List of Meetings

For this meeting you should have stopped at the first chapter screen of chapter 5

For the next meeting, finish the novel.

There are a number of choices that will appear throughout the story. This is the guide I'm using. The special thing with SnK is that, if you don't get a bad end, the story is almost fully set in stone. You can freely choose any girl you fancy without it causing problems for the discussion. I'll map out the choices so you'll have all options open. Prepare for ship battles.

  • Dormitory
  • Shopping district
  • Touka's house
  • Touka's house
  • Other (By picking the other options a few times you will get Natsumi's Bad End.)
  • Checkpoint
  • I'm worried about Isono
  • Live peacefully with Natsumi and the others / Reform Society with Onee-chan

~~ = All options are equal. = You can choose based on which girl you like.

To access the saves I give out you need this file. It contains most of the savedata so replacing your own will delete your saves; make a backup. The saves on page 10-11 are important but the rest can be overwritten without worry.

Here is the save for a shortcut to where this week's reading starts. Just place the .bmp in your savedata folder. The number in the file-name will determine which slot the save ends up in ingame. A save named [syarin0] will end up in slot number 1; it's always 1 higher like that.

If you want to skip straight to the epilogue of a certain girl, I'll leave these saves here. They're in the following order: Sachi; Touka; Natsumi; Ririko; Harem.

[Meeting 14 for Little Busters!] "Sea and Sky"

Heyo! Does the new meeting time work for everyone?

So, Mio's route is my favorite route besides True. I might end up gushing a bit during discussion. Consider this fair warning.

Last meeting, you should have finished Mio's route.

For the next meeting, read until May 27th, Sunday. (We're doing Rin's route! Again!)

Choices in italics may not show up, and that's fine; they only appear if you've met the criteria for other routes!

This week, the required choices are:

5/15: Go look for her

5/16: Follow after Rin

5/17: Run after Rin

5/19: Look for Rin

5/23: Keep helping her out

The recommended choices are:

Y/YY: Watch for a while (this choice shows up multiple times; each time is recommended)

5/21: Rin

5/22: Go to the cafeteria

5/22: Go

5/24: Look for the cat

5/24: Rin

5/25: Consult Rin

This reading should take about four hours. If it takes you much longer than four hours to reach the next checkpoint, please file a complaint with HR.

Make sure you're using spoiler tags if you want to discuss points that we have not read up to! Instructions are on the sidebar.

[Meeting 13 for Little Busters!] Substitution Shenanigans

Just so there won't be a gap in meetings. 今週の監督は僕です

This will be the meeting for Mio's common route parts. Due to circumstances the rules are a bit more loose for this time, but let's refrain from talking about stuff from after the date goes away at least. That way things will be somewhat consistent.

The choices for Mio's route are still the same:

5/18: Stay in the courtyard

5/21: Look for her

5/21: Good intentions

5/23: Quit

5/23: Go to the courtyard

[Meeting 12 for Little Busters!] "A Big One"

So I think it's fair to say that the Thursday experiment didn't work. I'll move to Saturday at 1pm EST for the future.

Another note: I'm going on a bit of a trip, and will be missing next week's discussion time! For that reason, this next segment will be double the length (there's not much to discuss in the common route anyways). Sorry 'bout that.

Last meeting, you should have finished Kurugaya's route.

For the next meeting, finish Nishizono's route.

Choices in italics may not show up, and that's fine; they only appear if you've met the criteria for other routes!

This week, the required choices are:

5/18: Stay in the courtyard

5/21: Look for her

5/21: Good intentions

5/23: Quit

5/23: Go to the courtyard

5/27: You should probably go on a sunny day

5/28: Go to the courtyard

X/XX: Midori (Save for bad end)

X/XX: Good intentions (Save for bad end)

The recommended choices are:

5/16: Help her look for a roommate

5/18: Nishizono-san (Twice)

5/19: In the courtyard

5/22: Go to the courtyard

5/23: Talk to Kud

5/23: Talk to them

5/24: Go to the courtyard

5/24: Mio

This reading should take around six or seven hours. If it takes you much longer than that to reach the next checkpoint, please file a complaint with HR.

Make sure you're using spoiler tags if you want to discuss points that we have not read up to! Instructions are on the sidebar.

In other news, what did you folks think of Kurugaya's route? It's definitely...different.

Here is the save for a shortcut to where this week's reading starts. Just place the .bmp in your savedata folder. The number in the file-name will determine which slot the save ends up in ingame. A save named [syarin0] will end up in slot number 1; it's always 1 higher like that.
