Vivaldi takes like 18 seconds to open after updating it a few days ago
Friends,
Been using Brave for almost a decade and decided it would be a great time to switch. Tested other browsers and kept coming back to Vivaldi. So far this seems transparent and a positive experience.
Latest current version of Vivaldi is installed for Windows 11 and Android.
Just migrating from Brave to Vivaldi Desktop/Android and have few questions.
- Speed Dial desktop version, the graphic custom thumbnail doesn't carry over to Android. I assume this is intended behavior?
- Would like to migrate my desktop Version to another workstation. As I understand, the location where the User Data resides is: C:\Users\tvos\AppData\Local\Vivaldi
Do I need to also include Application data or just User Data folder when migrating?
- Last but not least, I did set the encryption on my main workstation. If I copy the C:\Users\tvos\AppData\Local\Vivaldi UserData folder and copy to the other workstation will be there be any problems?
I am running a virtual box Windows 11 host, installed Vivaldi in the environment and removed the default folder in APP data. When launching Vivaldi I am met with this error. Just want to be able to test successfully so when I do update my main Windows 11 gold image restore this will be transparent.
As a side note, I do not use Vivaldi to store passwords, mail, calendar etc. So really it is just bookmarks and settings.
So is there a migration tool from workstation to workstation to duplicate the exact settings/bookmarks?
Please advise and Thank You
tvos
Hi, Can anyone help me get an older version of vivaldi browser compatible with ios 15 for iPad
Vivaldi just crashes when i try to import data from arc, can somebody give me any advice? I am on MacOS and I use 7.0.3495.10 version of vivaldi and latest version of arc
One suggestion I have is compact pinned tabs, only with an icon, without the name of the site, and in such a way that they can be organized horizontally, and if it's full, it would be moved to the bottom line.
Organizing the order of the pinned tabs with the mouse would also be great.
The first screenshot is from Vivaldi, the second from Edge, which has the behavior I'm suggesting.
In addition, a counterintuitive behavior of pinned tabs is that if there are too many tabs, the pinned tab disappears from view and you have to scroll to see it. In Edge, the pinned tab is always in the same place, so you don't need to scroll if you have a lot of tabs to access the pinned tabs section.
See the example below, where the pinned tabs section disappears if I use the mouse scroll to access the rest of the open tabs.

In the example above, we have the absence of a website icon when installing a website as an application, compared to Chrome.
Additionally, there are icons that are poorly sized (I will post the image in the comments).
Keep up the good work, I hope Vivaldi grows even more :D

hi!
If I have a new PC and a Vivaldi account, do I only need to log in to the Vivaldi account on the new PC to sync my passwords, or is there anything else I need to do?
im in WIN11 and going back to WIN10, vivaldi 7.0.3495.10 (Stable channel) (64 bits)
Is it possible or can be added in te future? I'm using some online dictionaries in the sidebar panels and currently going back/forward doesn't work, so for example I can't go back to preciously checked words.
Vivaldi 7.0.3495.6 on Windows 10, but I suppose it's irrelevant in this case :)
I've multiple workspaces on desktop and was excited to see instant sync with 7.0. However, I haven't been able to get sync working. The tabs on the desktop didn't show up on mobile, and vice versa. How to get it working?
I
I have no error logs and have no idea why is it crashing

Vivaldi version: 7.0.3495.10 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
OS: Issue appears both on Windows Mac and Linux
I have installed Vivaldi for a pilot test run to see if it runs well for my usecases. It went quite nicely until I started watching a Twitch stream and something felt off.
A minute later I realized I cannot do basic hotkeys if my browser is focused on the chat input field. This includes CTRL+T and others.
Any fixes or workarounds for this? I have never seen anything similar in any other browser.
Just installed Vivaldi on laptop as I slowly transition from Firefox. Ran sync, and bookmarks are there, but syncing doesn't mirror theme and mail account setting? Basically leaving me to set up Vivaldi all over again on another machine? Is there an easier way to copy my desktop config to the laptop? Running Win11 on both, if that matters, and using 7.0.3495.10 (Stable channel) (64-bit).
I want to make sure I differentiate for you what I mean. I'm not talking about received emails within the accounts - i.e. backing up all the emails within an account. I'm referring to the configuration of the individual email accounts. I.e. login info, server info, etc. IOW, I would like to be able to back up the account configs from the dozen or so email accounts I have in Vivaldi Mail, so when I inevitably have to reinstall V I won't have to reenter all that info manually.
Is there a method to back up the account configs as I've described them?

I use multiple workspaces. The first workspace is my main one which holds 84 tabs divided into 5 different tab stacks with 3 pinned tabs and a couple other tabs. The other workspaces hold about 5-6 tabs for classes. Recently, switching from any workspace to another workspace holds a noticeable delay.
The most prominent delay is at an insane four seconds when I switch from my other workspaces to my main workspace that holds ~84 tabs.
It was nearly instant before this update, regardless of which workspaces I would be swapping in between.
I've been searching the V forum for this, and the only thing I've come across is creating a custom.css to change the color of the bookmark folder icons. I've additionally read that whenever V updates, it breaks that customization. Most of the posts I found are several years old. Also, it says it will only change the color in the top-level Bookmarks Bar - the dropdowns are controlled by the V engine. Sheesh.
Has anyone come up with a way to change the monochrome bookmark folder icon color to something else? Even standard yellow would be a relief from this.
Can I have multiples Macs sync open tabs instead of just showing what's open on other devices? Id like to have them always be identical.
I, for example, use Gmail as a separate window (PWA).
But none of my shortcuts work; for example, "Save as Plain Text" (Ctrl+Shift+V) or invoking the quick commands (F2).
So it's the native browser shortcuts as well as extension shortcuts. Have you found a way to solve it?
Vivaldi's wiki says: "When you scroll down on a page the toolbars will be hidden automatically to free up screen real estate. When you scroll up, the toolbars will be displayed again.
If you wish to keep the toolbars always visible:
Go to Vivaldi menu > Settings > Appearance; Toggle on Show Toolbars While Scrolling."
But this behavior is not the one I'm experiencing, and the setting the wiki talks about is not present apparently. What can I do? I've tried playing with "status bar visibility" but it doesn't affect the toolbar unfortunately.
Vivaldi 7.0 on iOS is here. You’ve told us you want personalization, power and privacy, so that’s what Vivaldi 7 is about: you can personalize your main menu and instantly sync your browsing data across your devices. The new Home Button and Top Sites section on your start page puts everything you need at a glance, and the new combined privacy settings and site preferences means you can see (and tweak) how each site interacts with your data in a single step. Boom!
Let’s drill down into the new features, each designed to give you more control over your mobile browsing experience. Here’s what’s new:
In true Vivaldi fashion, we are giving you more ways to personalize Vivaldi. Now, you can easily reorder and edit menu options to prioritize the features you use most, whether it’s bookmarks, history, or quick access to specific tools. This flexible setup lets you build a menu that works perfectly for you, minimizing distractions and maximizing productivity.
Being able to syncronize your browsing data across your devices is not something new to Vivaldi. However, Vivaldi Sync is now picking up pace, quite literally. With instant sync, Vivaldi keeps your browsing experience seamless across all your devices in real time. Start a session on your desktop and pick up right where you left off on your iOS device, with no delays or manual syncing needed. This feature ensures that whether you’re using Vivaldi on your computer, tablet, phone, or even your car, your browsing flow is uninterrupted, letting you move between devices as easily as just picking up that other device.
Managing privacy settings and site preferences is now simpler and faster. The new combined dialog merges tracker blocker settings with site preferences, so you can adjust privacy and permissions without hopping between screens. Now you can customize how each site interacts with your data in a single, streamlined step.
Quickly access your start page with the addition of a dedicated Home button. Whether you’re in the middle of a browsing session or juggling multiple tabs, this feature brings you back to your start page in one tap. If you want home to be a different place than your Startpage, you can set any website as the Homepage. To enable the Home button, flip the switch in Settings > General.
The updated start page now includes a “Top Sites” section, letting you access your most frequently visited pages right from the get-go. Enable it in Settings > Start Page > Display Top Sites.
This addition, paired with a new setting to preload webpages, gives you an instantly responsive browsing experience. Preloading slashes load times, so you can get to the sites you visit most, faster than a cheetah swigging energy drinks while driving a Formula 1 car.
Finding sites in your bookmarks just got easier. Matches in the address bar now supports autocomplete based on your bookmark titles, meaning fewer keystrokes to find what you need. With intuitive suggestions as you type, Vivaldi makes accessing saved pages faster and more seamless. In the Address Field, you also get faster access to certain websites as Vivaldi will suggest them directly, through Direct Match. When there’s a match for what you’ve typed, Direct Match saves you the extra step of searching through your search engine, helping you get where you need to go with fewer clicks.

Vivaldi 7.0 for Android is here! We know you love Vivaldi for its power and personalisation, so 7.0 is all about flexibility, full of updates to give you more control over your browsing, with Instant Sync across devices, a revamped start page with Top Sites, and the all-new Tab Stack Pane.
Let’s drill down into the new features, each designed to give you more control over your mobile browsing experience.
Here’s what’s new:
Ever accidentally closed a tab? Now you can choose whether to display the Undo message when closing tabs, putting full control in your hands. We’re also introducing a combined dialog for Site Preferences and Tracker Blocker settings, making it faster and easier to see and adjust privacy options and permissions in one place.
Being able to synchronize your browsing data across your devices is not something new to Vivaldi. However, Vivaldi Sync is now picking up pace, quite literally. With instant sync, Vivaldi keeps your browsing experience seamless across all your devices in real time. Start a session on your desktop and pick up right where you left off on your Android device, with no delays or manual syncing needed. This feature ensures that whether you’re using Vivaldi on your computer, tablet, phone, or even your car, your browsing flow is uninterrupted, letting you move between devices as easily as just picking up that other device.
Your Start Page is your command center, so we’ve enhanced it with a new Top Sites section. This feature organizes your frequently visited pages for instant access, keeping everything important to you in one easy-to-navigate place. To enable Top Sites, go to Settings-Start Page – Show Top Sites, and it will appear as a first item in the Groups on the Start Page.
With 7.0 we are introducing a new way for you to view your Tab Stacks. When you group tabs together you will see the Tab Stacks as a separate item in the Tab Switcher. You can easily switch between the stacks with this organized view, perfect for users who manage multiple tasks or projects at once.
The latest version seems to disable the auto rename feature. How do I get it back?
version 7.0.3495.10 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
There used to be a really useful zoom slider at the bottom right of the window that you could use without needing a keyboard. Since the last update (7.0.3495.10) I can't find how to return it. Am I just blind or is that feature just gone?
Previously (and it is still like that in other browsers) when you closed a tab, tabs to the left stayed in the same position and then realign after a second or so. But now they realign immediately and when i want to close multiple tabs i often close the wrong ones (because they realign and slide under my mouse).
is there something in settings that im missing or is it just a new feature with last update?

Windows 10 Version 22H2 (Build 19045.5073)

Hi, I have been enjoying using Vivaldi for the first couple of months, but for the past couple weeks, it has gotten very slow at specific things.
Working within an opened and loaded tab is normal speed, no issues there. Only whenever I open a new tab and want to load a website, or if I open a tab with a website that has been hibernated, there's always a couple second when nothing happens and it is just blank, then sometimes an error appears saying I might have network issues (I definitely do not) for a second or two and only then does the website actually load.
I do have a lot of tabs across my workspaces (maybe 60 to 70 on average), but all those should be automatically hibernated, so don't see the issue there. I wonder if it is a problem with Vivaldi assigning RAM to the new tab too slow or something?
Any theories and/or fixes? Ideally such that do not involve deleting login data or closing all of the tabs, as they are essential for my workflow.
I do restart the browser regularly though and turn off the laptop every night. Also, I've got a new laptop that is good, so hardware shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks!
