Hello, I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue I'm having with my Singer 66. Just did a deep clean, oiled all moving metal-on-metal components, and put a drop into each of the holes on top.
My issue is, every time I run the machine it seems to drag a small amount of what looks like dirty oil onto the fabric being sewn. I don't see or feel any oil anyplace near the needle though. I just can't figure out where or why or what, etc. If anybody has any good suggestions on possible culprits and solutions I am grateful. Thanks!
Hi!
I have recently acquired a Singer clone and am looking to get a zigzag foot for it so I can branch out a bit to working with stretchy fabric on my projects. Where is the best place to find/order these and what exactly should I look for? I’m very new to this and have been working on basic projects so far, thanks in advance!
Recently got a serger (jamome) and embroidery machine (babylok uses numbered cards sounds a fully custom option would start at 150 bucks to adapt) and my spouse (who maintains my machines and was looking thru everything in the "set") found this manual and some vibrating shuttles that don't look (to him) like they will work with our 27
This to me looks like an electric 27 type I'm trying to even see images of the actual machine there is no branding/model that I saw in a quick look in the book trying to find closest I found was this image and the back of the book "printed in Japan" (we do own multiple singer 27 models)
I am looking for recommendations for a reliable vintage sewing machine.
I learned to sew on my mom’s vintage all metal Singer (I’m unsure of the model), and have recently decided to buy a machine of my own.
After researching modern sewing machines, I am leaning toward buying a used/vintage machine and getting it serviced. I am looking to spend less than $300 on the actual machine, but hopefully not much more since I’ll be paying to have it serviced too.
I’ll be using the machine to work primarily on clothing (I don’t quilt or embroider), tailoring or making garments. I’d like the machine to be able to handle 2 layers of denim or other heavier fabric. I would also like a machine with a backstitch function, and a zigzag stitch.
Any recommendations for the best models to look for?
Currently on my list: Bernina 910 or x30 series (top choice, but they seem spendy!) Singer 403 or 401 Kenmore 148 or 158 series
Anyone knows what model it is?
I have a Singer 237. It's heavy. I was planning on taking a sewing class where you have to bring your own machine. I could get a rolling case but the machine is still 40 odd pounds.
Googling for a lighter more portable machine I stumbled upon this forum thread which was basically asking the same question.
"A fairly lightweight (for a vintage metal machine) that is suitable for garment sewing and knits would be a Kenmore 158.1050. It is portable, and only weighs about 18 lbs in it's case with all the accessories."
The 158 seems to have a fairly bewildering set of versions.
Locally I see a "158 19461" which I think may be a sub variant of a 158.1946?
I couldn't find a resource that described the various sub-models. Does one exist?
I saw this prior thread here that referred to the groups.io group. I can ask there but I'd assumed somewhere there might be a webpage with the model differences detailed.
I’ve figured out how to thread the bobbin and get it up, but now when I try to sew this happens? What am I doing wrong???
I’ve included some more videos showing me threading the bobbin, trying to get the two threads to connect and how I threaded the top. Hopefully this is more helpful!
I recently [urchased a 1960's Singer 201p which, upon demonstration on a lighter fabric than I am attempting to sew, produced even stiching. Since then I have tried to stitch single and double layers of canvas and both are producing skipped stitches. I have:
- Changed my needles to denim 100 and 110.
- Cleaned out the bobbin casing and surrounding mechanisms
- Cleaned and re-oiled all mechanical components and removed any lint of left over thread
- Checked and confirmed correct needle height
- Adjusted to nearly perfect the timing of the hook to needle
- Using m782 thread.
Any other options before I put it into storage and buy something that works without putting so many hours into adjusting?
Thank you for your your wisdom.
came with my singer 128
I’m a beginner and mostly sewing clothes. Quilted jackets and pants. I currently have a singer 191J and a singer 201A I think it’s called. Love them both! Found this on Facebook for $100. She said it works perfectly.
Worth it?
I went to an auction and spotted a box lot with a Singer 15-91 that I was interested in and won the auction ($14) and brought home that machine plus a Singer 27 that came with it. I got sort of interested in the 27 (treadle) and looked on marketplace for cheap table. The cheap table came with a Singer 66 Redeye. I am now the owner of three new machines. Waiting on a belt to try out the 27 and the Redeye and learn to treadle. I guess this is how hobbies and collections are born.
So I bought a 1930 singer 66 recently with filigree decals and it is(or should I say was!) a beauty, in a really good shape. And well I'm a student and long story short I brought it back home with me, and my mom washed it using a dish detergent that has Phenoxyethanol(alcohol...) in it. And now the decals started silvering and the whole machine has weird spots that look like sticker residue? And well now my first question is it safe to use or will I get poisoned by the japponing or the silver decals(since I read gold painy in old singers did have lead)? And secondly how would I go restoring it? It doesn't have to be perfect but I still want it to look pretty. From what I researched I would need to get new decals and reshellac it but I was also wondering since I will be stripping it already how could I repair some chips in the japonning? I don't have a big oven to redo japponing in the chips so I was thinking maybe resin on some spots? I never did refubrishing of any kind so I'm kind of lost! Thanks in advance!
I am having a hard time finding the exact model of this machine online, i can only make out the numbers 35 40, which bear no helpful results for me. Can anyone help identify it?
I have a 201-3 and I am looking for a table to sit it in, i like this one for its size and simplicity. I am in italy and they do not have a wide variety of singer machines available, so it is not easy to find a suitable table for a good price.
Been looking for a new Sewing machine and found a nice Kenmore 158.19400 but it wasn't the 158.1941x I wanted. Is there any difference between the 2?
