Venturing is a co-ed branch of the BSA, you could post questions, post anything about your crew, ask about offices, ask out your councils VOA. Basically anything about venturing you would like to know.
Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 years of age OR 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade and under 21 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. I’m earning the religious emblem with my church’s program. I’m 18 (still considered a youth in venturing) so should I be awarded with the youth or adult knot?
I’m thinking about joining venturing and have been doing some research and I know uniforms are custom to each crew, but are there specific to venturing neckerchiefs? I could only find ones brought from bsa and was sort of confused. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
I've earned some awards in venturing and sea scouts that are pins (i.e. ranger, small boat handler, qualified seaman, seabadge)
I can't find anywhere on this question I have: can we wear these pins on each of the other program's uniforms? Ranger on the tan/blue uniform, and sea scout pins on the tan/green uniform?
If you got answers or would like to discuss this, let's talk. Thanks!
My Venturing crew does war reenactments (specifically, the Indian Wars and the War Between the States). As such, our official uniform is a postwar Union Cavalry uniform.
While this works great for the events the Crew goes to, the... historical connotations mean it isn't exactly suitable for Order of the Arrow events (which I often attend). In the past, I just wore my Scouts BSA uniform, since I was dual-chartered with a troop. Unfortunately, due to some friction that I would prefer not to go into, I am no longer chartered with that troop.
May I still wear my Scouts BSA uniform to OA events, or must I wear my crew's uniform?
Hello, I have decided I want to pursue the ranger award and I noticed for elective 12, part D has you carry out an investigation on an ecological subject. I was wondering if anyone has done that and would know what that entails and looks like? Thanks!
Title.
If not can you suggest non BSA branded alternatives?
I'm looking for the Venturing domed decal. They obviously stopped making them who knows how long ago. The adhesive on mine finally came off and I need a new one for my car. Ebay doesn't have any.
Howdy, I am working on the Pathfinder rank. When I look up Tier II adventures, National notes that tier II are often non-typical or non-Scouting events. Does my Tier II adventure for requirement 3 have to be done with a venturing crew or can I run the event with other organizations and youth mentors in that organization? Thank you for your time!
This has been a competition at the past few Winterfests and I've never gone to watch it. Does anyone have pictures or video from it? Our lodge wants to do it but I'm not 100% on how it works. All I know is there are balloons you have to pop and cardboard boxes.
At camp this summer I took lifeguard training but never received any kind of certificate or paper showing I completed it, I already got a job as a lifeguard but I can’t start working until I show them my certification. I contacted my instructor and even sent a follow up after getting no response but still nothing. On a website somewhere like scout book is there proof of my completing the course?
I have a group of youth who are very active in the OA and American Indian Activities in particular. Some of them have aged out if their troops this year and after an amazing week at NOAC, they decided to form a Crew. I was notified of this and that I would be the Advisor by email. The interest focus will be in AIA. Not just singing and dancing, but craft work and traditions. Activities will be attending pow wows around the state with a Tier III trip to Oklahoma next summer.
We've had a couple of meetings, elected officers and have a tentative 6 month calendar. Uniforms have been ordered and patches are being sewn on, including that elusive "Founder" patch. It's all so exciting!
How does your unit recruit and retain members?
For more context, I am the president of a Venturing crew with a low amount of active youth. Most of our current youth have a leadership position of some sort. We are currently looking for a way to expand with new members. Understandably, this will have to be done with a good quality program.
One of our biggest "problems" with meeting and activity planning is that during COVID, we recruited awesome people from around the US. These members still join us regularly, which is neat. However, it can be difficult to plan a program with people joining both online and in person, especially when one of the main goals of venturing is to plan more High Adventure activities.
To add to it, as I'm sure everyone is aware, all of our youth (including myself) are active in a million other organizations, clubs, sports teams, etc. This can make it difficult to sell Venturing as the program to be a part of.
Ultimately, I am just looking for new ideas from others- even if they are not originally from a Venturing crew.
Thank you everyone for your support and ideas!
I am coming up on completing my summit award and was wondering if anybody has gotten their summit award. Nobody in my council has and I just want to know a little bit about the process. We only have one active crew in my council (my own), so we will have to pull people from a neighboring council for my board. Anybody able to share their own experiences?
Instead of having two members that are multiplied from another unit and three members that are primarily enrolled, can all five be multiplied from a different unit?
Former Eagle Scout here but Venturing is new to me. Either that program wasn't around when I was active or my attention was elsewhere. We're trying to decide if it's something our son might get into.
My understanding is that Venturing is akin to what high adventure Exploring used to be and that a crew's activities are decided upon and executed by the youth. Is this true? Is it strictly high adventure bases or are there regular camping trips and other program features thrown in as well? We've seen the promotional videos on YouTube but we want firsthand opinions. Any insights whatsoever would be appreciated.
Our 18 year old crew has dwindled down to just 2 members, one who turns 21 in May. Last year was really hard. But! Our advisor is an 8th grade teacher. We set up a few open houses, had a few people actually show up. They were excited, started talking to their friends, and have drummed up so much interest. We have our first campout this weekend, with 8 youth signed up. It'll be nice to get things going again. These are outdoor greenhorns who are practically dying for something to do. We're starting over from scratch, but it has created new life with the adults leadership. Hope we all have a fun, safe time this weekend.
I am staring my venturing crew and need some help with communication what does everyone else use for it

Hello,
I was talking to a friend and she convinced me to get my summit award. The catch is I am 18 so I am running out of time. My venture crew is semi-active now and have never been much for ranking up. I need some help with the trainings I need to do to rank up. Does anyone know if there are any zoom trainings I can apply for? Thank you!

Did anyone else see in the National Annual Meeting this past week that a team set up to make suggestions to the Executive Board plans to recommend ending all youth scouting programs at 18? This seems to have been glossed over for some reason. View the video in this link at 56:54 to see what I'm talking about. https://nam.scouting.org
