We have animal-free recipes, dishes, and snacks to help you achieve your weight loss goals. Whether your daily calorie limit is 1200, 1400, or even 1600 or more, everybody is welcome to post and comment here. A vegan CICO based diet can benefit anybody trying to maintain or lose weight.
CICO stands for "Calories In, Calories Out." “Calories in” refers to the calories you get from the foods you eat, while “calories out” is the number of calories you burn. Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is an estimation of how many calories you burn per day. If you eat fewer calories than your TDEE you will lose weight.
All vegan foods are allowed on a vegan CICO based diet—you can eat whatever you want as long as it's vegan and within your calorie limit for that day.
Below is a website where you can calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and TDEE.
http://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Both of these values will help you determine how many calories you should eat a day, whether you want to lose, gain, or maintain.
We also have a short guide to counting calories and losing weight with CICO as well as dieting tips to get you started. Also take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Whether your daily calorie limit is 1200, 1400 or even 1600 or more, you are welcome to post and comment here. Just make sure your recipe is relatively low calorie and all is good.
1200 kcal/day is not for most people. While 1200 is the daily caloric minimum for women, for men it is 1500, and for teenagers, 1700. Caloric goals are dependent on many factors, such as age, weight, height, size, and activity. 1200 kcal/day is not enough for those working out regularly. A 5 ft individual working an office job will need far fewer calories than a 6 ft individual that is weight training. Consult a licensed professional for help.
If you want to post a direct link to a website (e.g., youtube, instagram, recipe site) add a description in the comments section telling us something about it and why it is interesting . Be sure to include calories, ingredients, and tell us if you actually made it.
We do not tolerate ED-promoting behavior or comments. This is not a place for those with ED or discussion of ED issues. Please use the report feature if you see any of these or anything else that you feel does not belong here.

Been tracking food for a year, and I consistently find that these guys are lacking-- which is weird, because I thought B12 was the tricky one. I know my diet gives unhealthy relationship with food vibes and I eat too much protein powder, but I can't figure out what I'm missing, that most vegans get regularly, to consistently fall short here.
What I ate yesterday (1600cal, 99g protein):
Breakfast: banana, protein pancakes (whole wheat flour + protein powder), pbfit drizzle
Lunch: Giant apple dipped in a serving of protein powder mixed with ground flaxseed and water, plus one Brazil nut.
Dinner: Big salad (mixed greens + bagged iceberg salad for cronch, half cup of kidney beans, tomato, red onion, low fat Italian dressing), peanut butter cup made out frozen of protein powder + dutch processed cocoa powder, and a navel orange.
Snacks: red grapes, kettle corn.
I didn't eat one yesterday, but I often eat sweet potatoes for lunch, and I still fall short on the B vitamins. Wheat Thins and Boca turkey burgers are other staples.
Any suggestions or glaring absences that I am not noticing? I'd rather not supplement if I don't have to. I've been vegan for 10 years, but tracking my food in Cronometer has been pretty eye-opening.
This stuff is so robust and flavorful it makes even the most boring food delicious. 🤤 You only need a tiny bit. I usually use 1/2 teaspoon on a massive amount of virtually anything. It’s so good. I love it with raw, volume veggies like zucchini or shredded carrots or celery or cucumbers.
As someone who transitioned to veganism relatively recently, insta is still filled with low-cal protein recipes using Greek yogurt, egg whites, cottage cheese, etc. anyone know any good vegan influencers that do the same with vegan foods (TVP, tempeh, etc)?
Black fungi, avocado, cucumber, pickled cucumber, pickled carrots, pickled onions, seaweed, fried shallot, chili oil, sesame oil, sesame seed, all over rice.
I was going for deconstructed sushi at first, but just had a lot of pickled veggies yum!
Got a huge load of fresh fruits from my friends fruit trees!!!
Made guava juice and sliced just ripened avocado! Made lightly pickled onions.
Made pickled cucumber, pickled carrots, and chili oil a week or so ago.
Made the kimchi about 2 months ago, she is very tasty, sooooo flavorful just been fermenting.
My dinner after just a protein shake and a few licked of the spoon when making the guava juice today. It was real filling and next time I’ll do a spicy mayo and go more sushi bowl!

Hi everyone! 👋 I'm looking for a female accountability buddy to help me lose 10 pounds over the next six months or so. My plan is to stick to 1500 - 1800 calories a day. I'm pretty active — I use a Garmin watch to track my activity and I'm currently taking a backbend yoga class through the AloMoves App.
I'd love to connect with someone around late 30's to early 40's, preferably vegan, who has similar goals. We can check in on WhatsApp and Garmin daily or every couple of days to keep each other motivated. I've had an accountability buddy before and it's super great to crush goals together! 💪🌱
