CICO stands for "Calories In, Calories Out." “Calories in” refers to the calories you get from the foods you eat, while “calories out” is the number of calories you burn. Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is an estimation of how many calories you burn per day. If you eat fewer calories than your TDEE you will lose weight.
All vegan foods are allowed on a vegan CICO based diet—you can eat whatever you want as long as it's vegan and within your calorie limit for that day.
Below is a website where you can calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and TDEE.

Both of these values will help you determine how many calories you should eat a day, whether you want to lose, gain, or maintain.
We also have a short guide to counting calories and losing weight with CICO as well as dieting tips to get you started. Also take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Whether your daily calorie limit is 1200, 1400 or even 1600 or more, you are welcome to post and comment here. Just make sure your recipe is relatively low calorie and all is good.
1200 kcal/day is not for most people. While 1200 is the daily caloric minimum for women, for men it is 1500, and for teenagers, 1700. Caloric goals are dependent on many factors, such as age, weight, height, size, and activity. 1200 kcal/day is not enough for those working out regularly. A 5 ft individual working an office job will need far fewer calories than a 6 ft individual that is weight training. Consult a licensed professional for help.

There may be a slight variation in the calories/protein due to me winging the marinade and sizes of veg. Serving size 2c purée, 1 maitake mushroom, 3 slices fava bean tofu. Recipe in comments.
Quick tacos - refried beans with nooch, unflavored protein powered, and Goya packet mixed in. Soyrizo fried until crispy crispy crispy. Topped with avocado and my home pickled jalapeños.
Coleslaw - the proper way to make, vinegar based!!! Cabbage, carrot, red onion, smashed garlic, and TVP to soak up the yumminess. Soaked in vinegar and a lil lime juice. Seasoned with cumin and tajin like the way la mamá de mi mejor amiga lo prepera!
Salted sliced tomatoes - I cannot escape the hold that a chilled and salted tomato has on me 🤤 got to pick up heirlooms, I’m just trying to get through my shitty lil roma tomatoes
Pan fried chorizo, bean, avocado wrap dripped in hot hot sauce with a marinated mushroom chunk salad and olipop.
Can easily add waaaay more protein to this meal - TVP, hemp seed, flax seed, more nooch, unflavored protein powder, all would work! I mashed the beans and avocado and they are good absorbers.
Only took about 20 minutes to make. Vegan 'chicken' fillets, some vegetables (low carb, like brocoli and peppers) and vegetable rice.
I worked out the calories myself/ packaging.
Rice - 170 cals (including corn) Fillet - 174 cals Broccoli florets - I estimated around 15 Peppers - about 15 as well as I didn't use a lot
Hey guys. Why am I so hungry at 1500 calories I feel like it’s not “normal”. I’m 5’3 F 135 lbs. I am fairly active lift 2-4 times a week. Run 5 miles 3-4 times a week and bike 4 miles to work 3x a week. I want to start losing weight to be under 130lbs again but I find I’m just so preoccupied with food and am so hungry. You can see I’m hitting my protein goal - everyone tells me eating protein makes you stay fuller. Is it the carbs? I just need to find the right mix to stop obsessing over food. What worked for you guys when you felt this way?
