I just applied early decision. My grandfather went there and I’ve grown to love everything UVA stands for, strives towards, as well as what they have to offer on the educational front. I’m just wondering if applying early decision will actually increase my chances as an out of state student.
Some quick stats:
4.5 gpa, Carson Scholar, Many ecs (4 year mock trial, president and founder of a school violence prevention club, vp of nhs, Rho Kappa, Phi Theta Kappa, NTHS, NEHS, founder of criminal justice reform community service group, job as a paralegal assistant at a law firm, etc.), 3 APs, 21 college credits in progress
Are there any 1 credit graded courses? I know there are a bunch of CR/NC but I would like something graded to fill up an awkward 1 credit left on requirements.
Does anyone have any good recommendations for medical care in the Cville area that would likely be able to get me in for a same-day sick appointment?
I didn’t really understand the website. I don’t think it’s possible but just wanted to confirm
VFF is Virginia Film Festival
anyone heard back yet for CAS this year?
This might be a long shot, but I’m a gay guy hoping to reconnect with someone I met a couple of years ago. About two years ago, a blonde guy stayed over at my place. We had a great night and seemed interested in taking things further, but he left early and left a pair of his underwear.
I’ve kept them just in case we crossed paths again, and honestly… I might want to hang on to them as a keepsake. But if you’re reading this, I’d love to reconnect and see if we could finally pick up where we left off. Feel free to DM me!
Hey guys, I am really in a tough spot and it’s all eating away at me, im literally crying in the shower as I type this so I’m sorry if I’m rambling. I’m a first year from VB, which isn’t far so I feel bad being so homesick. The first week here was fun, I was excited kinda like the honeymoon phase in a relationship. But after a bit I have started to become REALLY homesick and I genuinely don’t think I can do it anymore. I’ve made friends, I go out, I study, and I stay occupied, but I still always feel the same way. I already have had and am still going through a bad bout of depression, so that doesn’t make things any better. I go home on the weekends sometimes and that’s the only time I feel normal. I see my friends back home and I can relax in my own room, and I always have my family and support group like I’ve always had. Out here I don’t have that. I can call them sure, but I just am so depressed here. Grounds is beautiful but I can’t help but get a deep sense of grief as I walk around and see a school bus drive by the corner. I am grieving my childhood. I feel like I’ll never be that happy again. I just want the people and the things that make me feel happy and it seems like I haven’t found that here yet despite having amazing friends. I just want to go home. Should I wait to think about transferring to ODU? I would like to see myself tough through the rest of the year, but this whole thing is really messing with my ability to concentrate on school and all that. Thank you any advice helps
How many nominations per school for Jefferson?
If these are yours, I left them at the tech help desk on the second floor.
See pinned post in r/Charlottesville for details.
The Early Voting period in Virginia ends tomorrow, Saturday Nov 2!! The City office is open until 4:30p today, and we're 8:30-5p tomorrow. Again, tomorrow is the LAST DAY for Early Voting!!
Most On-Grounds housing (Old/New Dorms, Brown, Lawn/Range, etc.) are part of Albemarle County, so contact them with any questions about those areas. Happy Voting!
What can I even do to get involved this late into my UVA career since I'm NOT a 1st year and it's this late into the school year? It's too late to really even get out there because everyone has already established their friend groups and isn't open to getting to know anyone outside of it. Not to mention, I seriously have not come across a club that even peaks my curiosity...... I don't know what do to anymore to try to enjoy it here. I'm pretty much sad everyday I'm here.
Class of 2025 looking for class rings
posting on behalf of my roommate. my roommate is studying abroad in the spring and is looking for someone to take over his portion of the lease ($810 + electricity). 3bed 1bath on JPA 7 minutes to Rice and 11 minutes to Nau. my other roommate and I are 3rd-year guy cs majors. dm for more info/to get in touch with my roommate.
Who else doesn't have anyone to hangout with or do anything with for Halloween? It's my 2nd year having no one, lol. Since I don't, I'm heading home because I can't stand watching everyone else around me have fun tonight while I sit alone in my room. At least I won't have to be here on grounds to observe that now. Sucks not having any friends in college. Those of you who do are lucky. Wish I had friends here or could connect with people here to make friends. Cheers to being alone the next 3 years.
While only 51% of 18 to 24 year olds voted in 2020, 68% of UVA students did. Go Hoos! Now let's get that even higher.
Thanks to a 2022 law, we can register to vote and vote on election day. All you need is your student ID.
Election day polling location (for students living on grounds) is Slaughter Rec from 6am to 7pm. Golf cart rides are available from 9am to 4pm from anywhere on grounds. Text your location to (434) 218-0944. More info: https://servatuva.mailchimpsites.com/polling
If you're registered elsewhere, you just update your registration to Virginia and get a regular ballot. If you newly register, you get a provisional ballot. Be precise and careful because 1 of 3 of the Albemarle electoral board is batshit crazy. To see provisional ballot process: https://www.elections.virginia.gov/media/training/Intro-to-Provisional-Ballots.pdf
Edited to add sample ballot pdf link (shows the actual voting part that everyone, provisional and regular, fills out): https://www.albemarle.org/home/showpublisheddocument/23619/638617662494400000
In between these two classes, but have heard that 4640 can be time consuming.
any recommendations? I'm interested in web dev and weighing whether the time commitment is worth it for my last semester or if i should try to learn things on my own and do 4720.
does anyone knows if it matters what location i take my exam? I have an exam coming up and there’s a list of locations matching with last names but im trying to avoid someone who i know i will come across to if i go to where i am assigned. Does it matter if i take it at one of the other locations?
Hey, I am currently in the Engineering school and was thinking of taking ENWR to maybe apply for commerce. I was wondering if I could do this since I’m in E SCHOOL?
I have a few people coming over from my hometown this weekend, and I have absolutely no idea where to take them. Places or restaurants you know of? Give any suggestions, please!
Hi! I'm currently enrolled in CC in virginia doing a Comp Sci A.S and I'm planning to transfer under a GAA, however some people had told me that I have to do engineering instead of Comp sci to succesfully transfer into the engineering and applied sciences school, anyone that has done the transfer from Comp Sci A.s, to Comp Sci B.s sucesfully or I do need to go for enginnering?
Additional, if I try to go for external admision in my first year and It turns out to be denied, can I still aplly for the GAA after the completition of the a.s?
The early vote for Montgomery County is at 30.8%. Charlottesville is 29.09%. Let’s hit the polls Hoos! Edited to add 37% in Albemarle County!
Hello, I need a 4-credit class, but the only J-term options available are 3 credits, which means I’d be short for graduation requirements. I’m wondering if it’s possible to request a professor to make a J-term class worth 4 credits, similar to how some courses offer 1-4 variable credit options.
I’m really hoping to find an accommodating professor since paying the rates for part-time spring enrollment plus another semester of rent would be a huge stretch. Has anyone had luck with this kind of request, or does anyone know if professors can even make this type of credit adjustment? Thanks in advance!
ordered my costumes on amazon and the app says they arrived 2 days ago- yay! but i haven’t gotten an email from the mail room saying they’ve arrived. kinda need my costumes asap- why haven’t i gotten an email? i know usually it can take a few hours or even a day but its kinda crunch time now.
Hi! I’m applying to colleges this year and I keep going back and forth on whether or not to ED UVA. I think I really like UVA but all the people I know that are going hate it. I’m planning on going to the college of engineering so please let me know how the environment is in the engineering school (I’m applying cheme). Like is it competitive in a toxic way or is everyone super collaborative and nice? I honestly chose to ED UVA because I thought their engineering students were super kind and help each other contrary to many other engineering schools. Pls lmk cuz deadline is in two days otherwise lmk what you don’t or do like as a UVA student in general!!
Hi! I am a CS major trying to do the DS minor. I placed out of CS 1110 so I do not have the credit. Will I have to take it for this minor or is there any way of skipping that requirement?
Im kind of on the fence about submitting a 1400 SAT(700rw/700m). Im a latino OOS and I have a 3.95gpa and decent essays + ecs.
I drive to class every Wednesday around 5:40 and it’s never been like this. There must be some event or something crazy causing this
When do I get my cap and gown? Was hoping to get grad pics with the fall foliage
