Based on betting odds America has a 43% chance of advancing tomorrow

I say this because it feels there is a sense of hopelessness in this sub. That America will lose and Berhalter SHOULD be fired. I was incredibly incredibly disappointed in our performance against Panama and have said very similar things.

But the Copa America is not over. Would you fire Berhalter if we won the Copa America??? Of course not, so let’s not set that decision in stone in our minds.

The advantage of having a “players coach” is that a team can rally to put together incredible upsets. I still am going to root for the team to win against Uruguay and believe they will do it.

I don’t know about you guys but I treat USA soccer and US sports as my chance to be a blind patriot. I imagine every tournament is gonna be another miracle on Ice. When it comes to my NFL team I treat them with standards like no other and expect them to lose.

But it feels wrong to do that to America. Because America was founded on one of the biggest upsets ever, the revolutionary war. I will always cheer for America no matter what and will believe we can win even if its prime 90s Italy we are playing.

Japan, S. Korea, and Australia were in a similar spot as the US in the 90s so how did they massively improve but we're stagnating?

I just had some thoughts and questions about a few other countries that were in a similar place as us when we hosted the '94 WC. Japan, South Korea, and Australia were uncompetitive back then much like the US and not taken seriously by the world. But today all of them had made tremendous progress and are able to handle top teams and win against them while we're getting the same mediocre results. Same with the player pools, all of them spent less money than the US but have produced much better talent in the same time span. So what are we missing that they have?

More desirable coaching job USA National Team? England National Team?

Which is more desirable for a coach? Also, any chance USA would consider Southgate or Vice versa?

Anchorage, AK viewing options

Kind of a shot in the dark here, but anyone have a suggestion for a good place to watch tomorrow’s match in Anchorage? I know a few places that usually have decent viewing options for sports but have never found anywhere that really has a soccer vibe to it. Would love to watch with some other supporters as opposed to being the only one in the bar that knows there’s a US game on. Open to any suggestions!

We need a song/do we have a song?

Do we have a song? If not, we need a song to sing during the matches.. Open to suggestions but here are the first few that came to mind:

  1. Take me home, country roads - John Denver
  2. God Bless the U.S.A- Lee Greenwood
  3. Courtesy of the Red White & Blue - Toby Keith
  4. America the beautiful - Ray Charles

Imagine the whole stadium rocking a song in unison, you can't tell me these songs won't get some more vigor out of these guys.

Just a thought.. suggestions are welcome. Implementation ???

Officiating Impartiality?

It might just be me but the ref in the Canada / Chile game sure looked like he doing his damndest to find a way to give Canada an equalizing red. He was giving yellows for simple fouls where it was obvious that Chile was trying to draw one and ignoring everything against Canada. Why can't these larger scale tournaments get international refs? Kudos for Canada for pulling this one out.

Low League Football

Hi everyone,

I want to know if there is a website where I can discover low league football games (like Sunday league). I am going to visit LA for the Mexico - NZ Game but also want to experience the „real“ football within the US.

Any hints are welcome.

Best regards from Germany.

Leo

With all the flak generated for Gregg in recent days (heck in the past two years really), I wanna ask this "In your opinion, who has been the absolute worst manager of the NT"?

It can be in regards to wins/losses, stats, playing style, ineptitude, what their legacy meant for the NT, just curious on thoughts after having listened to American Fiasco and hearing players rag on Steve Sampson for a while. I wonder if time has softened his critics or other managers of the NT.

If GGG does get sacked, Is there a Home run hire like the Women did with Emma Hayes?

Basically the Title....Is there someone out there who if hired, the Federation would of got it right on both sides of the coin? Both in appeasing the Fan base and actually having some tactical acumen that even the players would have to fall in line?

Being a Raiders fan prepared me for the Panama game.

The officiating was exactly the same as a Raiders game prior to a year and a half ago.

Bias officiating, terrible calls, and a general feeling that the other team paid someone.

when is the Olympic Roster dropping?

The Tournament starts in 3 weeks, and their hasn't been any word on when the squad is being announced. Although certain guys like Pukstas we know didn't get release by their clubs. So Cremaschi and Brian Gutierrez might be guys that get a chance now.

Reality Talk: USA Talent Level. USA Grit Level.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyRZ6IBGe1Q

Please watch the video above. Almost all of you have seen it before, but please do watch it for context of this conversation, it's short. It's a great video and memory, you won't regret it.

I have for the last 5 years thought, our current 2024 guys are (1) talented as hell (2) a true team and brotherhood and (3) would give anything to win for USA.

Watching this 2010 clip blew my mind. I remember that our 2010 and 2014 teams were pretty good. But when I re-watch these videos, those guys were DESPERATE. They were GIVING 100%. They absolutely had the US VS. THE WORLD mentality. A look of "you think we're bad at soccer? We're about to shove it down your throat and beat you with pure effort." They had maybe 2 or 3 guys in Europe playing on mid-level teams.

I thought our current team had that, I thought that's what they wanted and what they are. And then I watched this video again and thought wow, these guys look nothing like our current team. These guys are living and dying by goals. These guys KNOW THEY ARE UNDERDOGS, and playing to prove that they aren't. These guys are a true TEAM trying to come together and beat whoever they are playing on the field that day.

Our current 2024 squad... and our 2026 World Cup squad... they're brothers, they love each other, they want to win so bad... I love them and I know you all do too. But the fire is not the same as previous USA teams. I have seen US guys like Dempsey and Lalas and others say similar things but I didn't believe it until this video hit me tonight. Our guys are talented... but they're soft. Our guys are brothers... but not warriors. These 2010 and 2014 teams had 2-3 top European league players on them. Our current squad has 11 out of 11. And yet we aren't there, and we don't have the fire, that the earlier squads did.

I don't know the answer. I think it might be a new coach to light a fire, make people uncomfortable and play harder. But, when I look at how our relatively untalented 2010 and 2014 teams played, and overperformed time and time again, I'm reminded of why USA is so unique and good... Our current squad doesn't fall into that realm, and it's really unfortunate. Their talent may be slightly overrated but it is undoubtedly a level of talent our country has never had before. If they can find that tenacity and desire that previous USA Teams had, combined with their talent and skill, we might finally cross that bridge of being an elite team. I hope we find it. But nothing in the last 6 years has shown we are even close to that and I don't know why. I hope something changes soon either with our coach, our players, or our federation, so that our team's heart looks the same as it did for the previous cycles of our great nation and great team.

I know it’s currently trendy to shit on GGG and to assume we lose but can we, I dunno wait until after Monday for all of our future prognostications?

Text says it all. I’m no homer and I want him gone if we are grouped, but for fucks sake can we stop with the ‘what do you think happens’ ‘how quickly will he be sacked’ and ‘who do we get to replace him with.’

Can we wait till after the group stage is done? Maybe I’ll get downvoted to oblivion but this is a funny old game and what happens if we get a shocking result? I’m still not convinced that USSF will fire him anyway, but it’s moot until we see after three full matches. Rant over.

If we're getting this precise with offsides and handballs, why aren't we getting more precise with stoppage time?

Berhalter out? Who’s next?

I hear a lot more talk about GGG getting fired because of the situation we are in. I get that he’s a players coach and is well liked, but I also understand the criticisms and think some of it is justified.

No I don’t think he’s getting the best out of these players.

So, for those of you who want #BerhalterOut in your dream scenario, who do you think is a good alternative to get the best out of our players?

And how much would you pay them?
