Does U Rochester provide a CSS fee waiver for international students?
I submitted my application on Nov 30 at 23:59 and I still haven't sent my css profile. I was hoping to get a CSS waiver so I thought I would email them asking about it. Are there any chances that I get a waiver code?
Also..... Will my application be considered for a handler scholarship even without sending my CSS profile before Dec 1?
So basically the common app says "What field/area of study are you interested in researching? (20 word limit)
" I have mentioned a research project in my supplemental essay should I talk about it again or mention something new? Also, how should I exactly address this prompt? Should I just mention the area I am interested in or also talk about research centers at which I am interested in conducting the research? Also how specific do I need to be in my area of research like just neuroscience would work or more deeply in what in neuroscience?
So I submitted my common app to URochester a few days ago, to meet the December 1st deadline for merit scholarships. Way before that, I submitted my CSS profile to the university (at the end of October) but my MyRoch portal is showing that it is still awaiting. What do I do now? Just emailed the financial aid office asking if they didn't receive my CSS profile, but they will obviously take some time to respond. Will I not be eligible for the merit scholarships in this case? What do I do T-T
I finished my supplement, though I am reviewing it. So, I need a little bit of time.
I am applying as a Regular Decision applicant. RD deadline is January 1st though.
this is the prompt:
The University of Rochester benefactor, entrepreneur, photography pioneer and philanthropist George Eastman said, “The progress of the world depends almost entirely upon education.” In what ways do you envision using the curricular flexibility and co-curricular opportunities at the University of Rochester to promote progress and change within the communities you inhabit? (250 word limit)
Three ways to answer: Creative, Essay and Research
I did Research Response.
Another prompt appears:
Upload an abstract describing your own related research and use the space below to provide a brief explanation as to how the research is tied to creating positive change within your community.
Now, should I only talk about how my research helps in society? I mean it is research so, it is kinda vague as to how it helps.
so far, i have like 100 words on research impact, and remaining 150 divided in Rochester's co-curricular opportunity (I've mentioned one specific one), and how i plan to use the curriculum.
Is this good to go? or should i just talk about my research for 200 words and remaining 50 to connect back to Rochester?
Also, since i'm submitting my abstract as well, I felt it is not necessary to describe the research. so, i mainly talked about its impact.
I'm in an awkward spot where I'm not super poor but not super rich either. My parents make about 100k in total but my dad is a taxi driver and my mom is a babysitter. Our house is also barely paid off. What do UR's financial packages look like? What should I expect?
Hi. Title says it all. I've seen mixed opionions on whether or not to submit and most sources I look at don't give me a conclusive answer. I have a bunch of great ECs and a 3.8 UW GPA (4.4 W).
I had University of Rochester down on my college list. I needed a challenge school to apply too, and URochester seemed like a good school to apply to. I did my research and it seems relatively fine. However after talking to some people and scrolling on this sub, I realized that the school might be have too much of a focus on academics and research. Now let me explain, I am MORE then capable of handling a hard course load, I would consider myself to be a nerd too lol. But when it comes to the college that is the best fit for me, I don’t want academics to be the ONLY focus in my environment and tho I am a premed major I’m not like dying to conduct research. Rather I want a good balance of social life, extracuiller involvement and most importantly school spirit. Does URochester meet those fit factors or are the rumors true? P
Hello. I have to relet a 2bed/2bath Unit in the UofR/RIT Area for a competitive price! It is fully furnished, in-unit laundry, pet friendly, corner room and both units are available. Please DM as soon as possible as I have some offers on deck, just want to exhaust all options as I know housing is rough out there. Thanks for reading!
Does anyone have any experience with the 12-Month ABSN program and/or the UR nursing scholar program (3 year tuition reimbursement agreement)? I'm mostly curious if any current or former students could share their stats that got them accepted (GPA, experience, pre rec grades). Is it a very selective and difficult program to be accepted into?
Just curious on if it would actually bring an impact to Computer Science majors since it’s not technically engineering but still is a form of engineering.
Want to know before I start my essay tbh.

Students have unlimited access for in-person swipes at Douglass during operating hours.
Students have unlimited access for in-person swipes at Danforth during operating hours.
Students may also use their swipes in select retail locations for a meal exchange. Below are the meal periods and swipe limits per location.
Grab & Go:
8am-3pm – Limit 2 swipes per day: 1 swipe from 8am-11:45am & 1 swipe from 11:45am-3pm.
The Pit/Rocky’s Monday-Friday:
3:30pm-11pm – 1 swipe per day
The Pit/Rocky’s Saturday-Sunday:
11am-11pm – 3 swipes per day: 1 swipe from 11am-3pm, 1 swipe from 3pm to 6:30pm, 1 swipe from 6:30pm-11pm."
I'm looking to maybe enroll next year - does this mean 3 swipes/ day, spend them across these locations as you wish, or could I get 2 meals from "grab + go", 1 from the pit, and still get 3 meals from the seemingly more normal cafeterias? Assuming I get on a play w/ unlimited swipes?
Thinking of taking Math 235 next sem with Madhu. My other classes will have a decent workload and I’d say I’m good at math but nothing special. What did you guys think of the class?
Hi, high school senior here looking to apply to URochester!
I've searched but I wanted to confirm a couple of questions:
To be considered for merit-based scholarships, I have to submit my application by Dec 1st, right?
Do any of the merit-based scholarships require me to submit additional material like supplement essays? (besides the common app and co-curriular uroch essay, are there any I need to write for scholarships)
Thank you!
Hello everyone,
I am subletting my room for the spring 2025 semester. It is a 13 min walk from campus. There are 5 people total in the house, all men. It is $400 rent a month plus utilities. Please dm me for pics and more info.
My roommate is an international student, he was born in Dubai but is Indian, and grew up in India.
The start of this month he started smelling really bad. I had to ask him to keep his socks on once because the smell was overwhelming. Eventually it got so bad that I literally almost started gagging when I walked into the room, and had to open the door.
After that happened, he went to go take a shower and it started getting better from there, but now this week he started smelling bad again.
He showers every other day but I don't think he knows how to properly wash himself. Is there anyway I can tell him that without it being awkward?
anyone who goes to university of rochester newyork can someone tell me how the food and dorm is im out of state and nervoussss
Recently graduated alum here, with some thoughts on the current discourse on student protests with regards to I/P conflict. While I firmly believe Israel (specifically Netanyahu) is acting in bad faith at this point in the conflict, targeting of faculty as “tools of genocide” is ineffective at best. I had enough issues with the environment on campus last year from the protests, it created a toxic environment where students felt suppressed in their beliefs, on both sides. But this is on another level where a student who may believe that Israel ought to at minimum exist is in fear of being targeted for being complicit in “genocide”.
How should the university respond when the environment moves from activism to vindication?
The back is hard to read but it says Antisemitism + Vandalism = Expulsion Been driving around the river campus and the med school (I took the photo from the med school building)
Does each school committee need to vote which student to nominate or they can nominate everyone who wants to get nominated and meets the basic requirements in the website?
Hi everyone! Has anybody here participated in the Simon games previously? I'm applying to MS Business Analytics for Fall 2025 and thought of giving the competition a shot. Any advice? I really need that scholarship...
I can't help but feel that this is worthy of a discussion. There is quite frankly NO PROOF AT ALL that the people in the posters were targeted for their identity. Why is the school so hostile as to throw out an accusation of a Hate Crime without proof?
If you don't believe me, look at how the Campus Times covered the events, you will see that they are far more honest than the administration and even popular outlets like CNN
I'm an upcoming transfer student from Syracuse with a little bit of anxiety about academics, socialization, and other questions. My major is Data Science. My GPA at Syracuse is 3.9. I'm worried about failing classes at a highly-ranked school like Rochester. I also received an offer from Boston University and am debating where to go.
I am also afraid I won't have a lot of friends since I'm a transfer student. Since Everyone already knows each other. Can you also share about 1. What are your favourite parts of Rochester? 2. How strong are Rochester alums? 3. What kind of help will you give to students? 4. How will the carer service help students get a job?
Please give me some advice; thank you very much for your help and time!
