Hi, does anyone know if there is a store in Uppsala that sells kajmak (salty "milk cream" spread)? Thanks!
Hi, I'm a bisexual woman and new to the city. Any tips on meeting queer people here (for friendship and dating)? Thanks!
Hello Everyone,
I am from the US, and our educational housing system seems to be much different than Sweden's so I just wanted to make sure of a few things before potentially doing my master's there next year. Here in the U.S., at most public universities, they offer on-campus housing for undergraduate students in their first 2 years. In your 3rd, and 4th year of your bachelor's you'll likely need to find somewhere to live in off-campus housing in the close vicinity of your university, which were not "sponsored" by the university themselves, meaning anyone could live at these but it was mostly students.
I assume that the Studentbostäder at Swedish Universities, specifically Uppsala, are strictly for students that attend that university? I am planning on studying at Stockholm University, however do not want to live in Stockholm. I had studied abroad there in college, and don't think that the environment is the best for students necessarily. Does anyone have any information regarding if there are these sort of apartment buildings in Uppsala "meant" for students, but not necessarily limited to only UU students? Or even a website where I can look at apartments for rent in Uppsala? Also, I am aware of the daily commute time from Uppsala to Stockholm, I currently commute by car to Washington D.C. everyday for work and it takes around 1.5 hrs each way so an hour train is nothing lol.
Thank you so much for any help, it is greatly appreciated!
Hey! I’m a 24 year old Aussie who’s about to enter my 3rd year of uni. 2026 will be my last, and I want to spend my final year studying abroad in Europe and Uppsala is currently at the top of the list. Sweden looks beautiful and I’ve always wanted to experience life in Scandinavia.
I do have a couple questions though regarding social life for an exchange student in Uppsala:
I still like to party, get smashed (within reason) at the pub and go out clubbing, but I’m a bit worried that my age may be a bit of an obstacle when socialising and forming friend groups with locals and other exchange students who will likely be younger than myself.
I don’t struggle with making friends here in Australia but I’m not sure what it’s like in Sweden and Europe on this front, so some reassurance would be much appreciated!
In terms of accommodation, how easy is it for me to secure a place to stay as an exchange student? I’d like to live in the campus accommodation so I’m close to everything but am unsure how competitive it is.
In terms of cost of living in Uppsala, my research tells me that Sweden is pretty expensive. I’d likely cook most of my meals at home and eat out 2-3 times a week, while going out Friday nights/weekends. If I find accommodation that is 1250 to 1400 krona per week, how much should I allocate to the other aforementioned expenses?
Thats about it. Any advice is more than welcome, thank you in advance!
Hej!

Hej!
Happy weekend to all of you!
I'm seeking some guidance as I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I recently enrolled in a master’s program and moved from my home country (Non-EU) to study. However, after completing the first study period, I've realized that this particular program may not be the right fit for me due to various reasons that I failed to recognize when I initially applied. After some serious reflection, I’ve come up with two possible options:
1. Switch to a different master’s program that aligns better with my goals.
2. Quit the program and return to my home country.
I'm currently exploring option 1, but I’m finding it difficult to get detailed information on how to go about it. So, I thought I’d reach out here for advice. I have a few questions regarding the feasibility and process of switching programs as an international student.
1. Is changing to a different master’s program feasible, especially considering I’m an international student? (The new program is in a completely different city and university.)
2. If so, what steps would I need to follow to make this transition?
3. As an initial step, would emailing the prospective university to explain my situation help make me eligible for a transfer?
4. I’m on a student residence permit. If I successfully switch to a new master’s program, will I need to notify the immigration department about this change?
5. Is it possible to transfer my credits from the current program?
6. Is it common for international students to drop out of a master’s program? And in this context, what would happen to my residence permit if I decided to leave the program?
I know my situation is a bit unique, and as a mature student, I don’t want to spend time studying something that doesn’t align with my career goals (Again failure on my part). My objective in studying here in Sweden is/was to complete a master’s degree, return to my home country, and join the workforce with a good salary so that I can start a family with my fiancée. I need to make a decision within a week, and my last resort would be to go back and rejoin my previous job.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance.
I have my personnumber, and I have my Tax ID. But I'm not really sure if I should just walk to one of the banks' building during open hours without an appointment? Shouldn't I get an appointment somehow online first and then go? I'd make more sense to me.
Also do they open bank accounts without a work contract? (I'm planning to work later, I just don't have a fixed job right now) Which bank do you recommend for international students? Thanks in advance!
I will be enrolling in Uppsala university soon so I was wondering if I could make a few buck working part time, is it possible for me to get work there?
I am a European student looking for housing, and I was screening possible areas to start housing hunting. I read in other threads (not necessarily an authoritative source, I know) that Flogsta is dominated by international students, and while I don't mind that, my goal was to immerse myself in the culture and start practicing the language with natives right away, as well as make meaningful connections, considering that I will have to live there for at least two years (so reasoning in these terms I would like to dodge agglomerations of erasmus students). Hence, I was wondering if there are any neighborhoods where traditionally there is a Swedish majority.
I thank everyone in advance :)
Hi, is it possible to legally sublet a UUHO corridor room (rented through a nation) for summer months and internship duration (6 months)?
Mvh
Hi friends, I will spend the month of november in Uppsala for work. My accommodation is 30mn away from where I work. I was wondering what was the best option for transportation: are there places renting bikes for a month ? Is there a period ticket for one month avaible ? Whats the best options, am I forgetting something ? Thank you so much 🙏
Disclaimer: i know these two programs in particular are not located in uppsala, but i'm looking for help and i thought that maybe someone would have been able to provide it since it's technically the uppsala's university
Hey guys :) i'm a 22 years old from italy. I'm so interested in the uppsala university's bachelor degrees in game design and graphics, but in the game design and management one as well. I wanted to know if you would recommend taking these programs, there's nothing in life i would love to do more than working in the game industry. And also: how hard is it to get accepted by the university? thank you in advance
