is the classical studies minor taught well?

i plan on beginning my college journey soon with the goal of going to UNCW for a BA in history with a classical studies minor. for the first time in my life i’m excited about my future.

is anyone here have the classical studies minor? is it taught well? i’ve had a lifelong love for classical studies and i really really don’t want to be discouraged from it by a bad professor or a bad curriculum

Visitor lot suddenly has guards?

Does anyone know why the visitor lot and parking garage suddenly have people in the guard stations? They sat empty for a month but do they suddenly care about people parking there or is it more when events are happening?

How long do I have to pick up my mail before it is returned to the sender?

Post office really needs to be open longer than 5 because I have literally no free time before then 😭

applying to uncw... what extracurriculars are good?

hello! I'm a high school junior, and UNCW is one of my top schools. I was wondering what some alums/current students had for extracurriculars in high school.

I'm homeschooled, but I take most of my courses at Wake Technical Community College, and I should have my associates degree in science by the time I graduate high school. I'm white, female, low-income. I've lived in NC my whole life, so I'm in-state as well. My GPA is UW4.0 and W4.3.

Because I'm homeschooled, there's not a lot of clubs or organizations open for me to join. My current ecs are: working part-time, speech and debate, marksman (rifle) competitions, and volunteering. I also live on a small farm, so I work with animals/plants a lot, but I'm not sure if I can put that on any apps. I've applied to volunteer with Red Cross, but I haven't heard back yet.

I really want to get in and major in Biology/minor in Marine Bio, so I was wondering what other extracurriculars some of you had that would be good?

Thanks!

There's an Impostor Among us (you all)

I'm not even a student here, but thanks for the Library seat, Coffee, and Free Wifi.

I've been sitting in lecture halls and classrooms. The Theatres are nice too lol.
I can just show up to any club meeting, nobody checks if I'm a student, they just assume.

Commuter parking around campus

Anyone know a good place to park to workout at the gym as a commuter student? There doesn’t seem to be any available parking during the daytime near the gym. Thanks!

Does anyone know how many tickets each student gets?

I'm graduating in December and unfortunately my boyfriend and I have different ceremonies because we're in different departments. Our families want to attend both ceremonies. Do tickets work for both? If not, how many is each student given?

Is campus WiFi impacted by the storm (Helene)?

I commute to campus from Pender County, and all home internet service is out in my area.

Is the campus’ WiFi also experiencing diminished connectivity?

Respondus Lockdown Browser as malware?

Just found out that apparently Respondus Lockdown Browser, which I'm required for using on exams in Chemistry is considered malware. It skull fucks your computers registry in order to do the "lockdown" then is bad about cleaning up what it's done afterwards. I haven't noticed any problems yet but now I'm terrified I've wrecked my laptop. Any one have any personal experience with this? Is it just a small subsection of its users?

Easiest science lab? (Also, Shakespeare and Autism)

I got accepted several days ago for the spring semester!!! I’m majoring in creative writing and I’ve taken almost all of my general electives at community college already; I just need PE, 3 hours diversity, and 6 hours human institutions. I want to spend my first two semesters finishing that up.

  1. What’s the easiest science lab? Since im not majoring in science I don’t want it to be super difficult. I also want to get it out of the way so I can start working on my pre-major second semester. I really really want to go all in on focusing on Creative Writing, from creative writing workshops to clubs to all of that, and I want to finish the lab ASAP so it won't distract me from pursuing my dreams and passions.

  2. For my diversity elective, I’m interested in Shakespeare and Autism, but apparently I need permission. How would I get permission? Also, what is it like? I know it involves getting autistic children connected with Shakespeare; I’m autistic and love Shakespeare so I’m hoping this would be a good elective for me.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hammock Brands?

So I bought a hammock not too long ago, but it does not work with the stands on campus. I was wondering those who have a hammock what brand do you have? and do you recommend it? I also know hammocks come in different sizes, so what size should I get?

Best places to eat? Check out?

My daughter is a high school senior and UNCW is her first choice school. We are coming for a tour this Friday, but will get there Thursday early evening. Can you guys recommend places we should go to eat Thursday night? Places or areas to make sure we check out? I want to make sure she gets to really experience the area! I’d be surprised if she doesn’t get in (based on her GPA and classes, etc) so I think it’s a good chance she might end up there, so I want her to be sure she’s sure! Also we live in the outer banks but have never made it down to Wilmington, so I’m excited just to check out the town as well. Thank you!!

Nah Where is the Tap tea Bar

I’ve been seeing on the UNCW dining website and see there’s a boba place called tap tea here and I don’t know where it is.

I need it. I’m asking with all my soul. Please my Seahawks.

Update: I found boba. It was yummy. Will be a consistent spot to quench my thirst every so often. Like others said. It’s in the the right side of sandpiper if your looking it from the sports field in front,

Boba is awesome

Can you take a masters of Human Resources online? What is the cost per 3 hour credit class?

I’m looking at the schools website and it seems very vague and not straight forward. I’m doing my undergraduate at SNHU and they clearly tell you when you speak to the financial department that it’s 970 for one 3 credit class. I am a North Carolina resident. Thanks 🙏

Revolutionary Study Club?

Do we have a revolutionary study club/group? Similar to The Charlotte Revolutionary Study group at UNCC? Or any type of club that studies/facilitates discussion of socialist revolution or communist theory?

Thanks.

What would happen if you used up all of your 5 retakes for certain courses but still fail a class?

Just curious, I personally haven’t failed a class but would like to know.

Pros and Cons of UNCW

Hello Everyone.

For context I am a Junior in high school and viewing UNCW as my number one school. I live around a hour and a half away from the campus. I also have lodes of community service hours under my belt.

Before I fully commit and make up my mind I want to head pros and cons, about campus and everything else. Please be honest and don’t hold anything back.

PHYS. 201 vs AP physics 1 and 2

Hi there! So in high school I did honors physics, and surfed through it really easily. So then my teacher recommended I take AP physics 2 so I did. Overall AP physics 2 was a great challenge, especially when the class was nearing the end and we were going into modern and I got a 3 on the Exam with a 103 degree fever. I'm wondering how much of a challenge PHYS 201 will be comparatively since I really want to do well, but am worried about the workload.
