If I fail a nursing course twice at Humber College is there anyway of staying in the program or perhaps do it a third time?

I recently failed my course twice at Humber College due to very extenuating circumstances. My friend got kidnapped and my grandma passed away.

About the program: It was a collaboration between Humber and the University of New Brunswick (UNB). I am in the last batch of students in this collaboration program, and the rules are stringent.

What I have done: I have tried to fight my case by appealing to a professional lawyer twice and applying for withdrawal from the program. All of them have been rejected. Keep in mind that I am a student whoo is struggling to pay back my loans and who now has to worry about lawyer fees. I am also trying to contact the dean but they dont have a head office I can go to. Rather I have to do everything over email. They never pick up the phone so it is almost impossible to get through to them. The dean explained to me that he doesn't have any say and referred me to the dean of nursing (who was very happy to reject my initial appeal applications). However, I know that if you know the right people at these universities, you can find loopholes in the system to get what you want, however, I do not know what else to try and who else to contact so I was hoping someone could shed some guidance. I tried contacting the dean again about talking to someone higher up but he never responded. I then emailed again asking if we could set up a Zoom meeting and I'm hoping the human in him would make him set one up.

Keep in Mind: They have had other students take courses they have failed twice, a third time but won't allow me despite my extenuating circumstances. Even though I have brought this up it seems like it doesn't matter to them. Nothing seems to matter to them and rather they seem very happy to reject my appeals.

I was hoping someone could tell me what else I could do. Maybe UNB could do something? I'm not sure though

How would be UNB Fredericton for Mechanical Engg undergrad?

  1. In general

  2. In terms of campus

  3. In terms of quality of professors (mostly good, mostly bad, decent)

  4. In terms of Coop.

  5. How hard would it be to maintain a 3.5 GPA across the first 1.5/2 years.

Thanks in advanced!

Personal opinions

Hi! I got accepted into criminology and criminal justice so I was wondering how student life is? I am from Ontario and currently trying to choose between Simon Fraser, tmu, uoft and of course unb. The campus at unb is one of my favourites so it is one of my top options but as a very social person, the student life is pretty important to me. How would you guys recommend unb?

Online MEd program questions

Hi there, I'm looking for anyone who is taking or has taking (preferably recently) an online part-time Masters of Education from UNB. I've received a conditional offer of acceptance for the MEd in Curriculum and Instruction and wanted to see what others thought of the program before applying. Specifically I'd also love to know what proportion of the courses are usually asynchronous as I live in BC and will be teaching while completing the program. I emailed the faculty to ask about this but they just said it depends on the term, not very helpful...

MEd Counselling UNB

I was looking into the requirements for the UNB MEd program and saw some prerequisite courses are Social work - how would I go about getting those? I find it weird since typically people don’t complete a BEd and BSW.

Also looking for anything else “extra” I could start working on to help me stand out!

Thank you!

hello everyone! i’ve been conditionally accepted into the nursing program through the indigenous pathways, i was debating between moncton campus or going all the way to fredericton, moncton is closer to home. can someone who’s gone here/goes tell me what they like about it and what they don’t? if there’s still support and resources? a sense of community? thank you!

How is the forestry program at UNB?

Hello!

I was recently admitted into UNB’s forestry program for Fall 2025, which is pretty exciting for me.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the program, but information is generally pretty limited about it.

I wanted to ask current and former students in and out of the forestry program: how is it? What’s good, what’s bad?

I’m applying to several schools, and UNB previously served as a ‘safety’ choice, but the more I hear about the forestry program, the more I could see it becoming a 1st choice.

Thanks in advance!

infestation of fruit flies in residence? (fred)

listen a fruit fly here and there ain’t a big deal. it’s better than a spider imo. however, i’ve had to kill what feels like a million fruit flies in the past week. i have no food out or anything that they would be attracted to, neither does my bathroom roommate - i’m a clean freak and she barely has anything in her room. where are they coming from?

another thing, last year all my friends in aitken had the same problem and now in the dkt residences im experiencing the same thing. so is this just a renovated residence thing because i had no problems in (surprisingly) the un-renovated.

what are some things i can do to prevent this until they all freeze to death.

Residence Noise Complaints

Context: I live on-campus, in one of the many traditional residences.

So, reading week is here (yippee), no class and what not. Like most people, I enjoy some quiet time in my room when I’m feeling tired or have a headache.

Problem: neighbour blasts music through his speaker and has 1-3 friend(s) in his room throughout the day and night. Me and my roommate have had to call an RA twice (once for both of us) to get him to turn the music down. I don’t enjoy having to confront people - but ever since living in a city like Fredericton, I’ve come to realize it’s impossible for me to expect the average person to express concern or respect for the peace of others.

I asked my RA on duty today if it was really okay for someone to blast music so loud you could hear the lyrics through the walls, answer was that it was okay as long as it wasn’t “disrespectfully” loud. I didn’t ask what that meant… in hindsight I should’ve. I don’t quite know what disrespectfully loud is. I also don’t know if the guy next door would even care if I slid a note under his door or DM’d him on MS Teams (once again, I also just hate confrontation).

I also feel this is a complete disregard for the residence contract? It states, in the section labelled “Noise”, that students living in residence have no right to negatively affect the living environment in a way that isn’t conducive to the peace of other students - and that this respect should apply “24 hours” throughout the day.

Do I just email someone else about this? Should I just “bite the bullet” and try to talk to these people? If I do need to talk to him, I’d need to really fight myself to stay zen and avoid worsening anything. Just looking for any external takes on the matter.

EDIT: For people with this situation looking for solutions, try sliding a note under their door first. If they seem unapproachable or don’t seem to consider the note, record how loud it sounds in your room and record the times they make a “disrespectful” amount of noise.

Noise-cancelling headphones are fine and all, but sometimes you can feel full-on vibrations from heavy bass. Alert your RA of the noise and say that jt feels unreasonably loud. If you are told to go to the library or something (and you are able) you can absolutely do that instead, it avoids a lot of unnecessary hassle. If you are like me and suffer from migraines, don’t worry about it.

For me, the note under the door seems to have worked fine. They moved their speaker to the other side of the room or something. If it didn’t work, I’d alert my RA that I asked them to turn it down out of respect of my ailments but they did not listen. If RA was useless, you can use the recordings and documentation to forward it to REZ Life.

Lady Beaverbrook experiences 2024

How is LBR in 2024? I’ve read some wild stories about bedbugs, bats, and whatnot and I’m kind of worried. I’ll be staying there for winter term 2025, so I’m wondering if I made a mistake choosing it. Also, is it mostly engineering students since it’s close to that building? Are there any arts students there?

Thanks!

Off campus housing

Where is the best place to look for off campus housing listings? First choice is likely looking for a full house to rent with a few buddies. Also, could look at joining a house that’s searching for a new roommate. Looking for the 2025/26 school year and beyond. Thanks for the help!

Anybody else feel they’ve gotten sick from meal hall? If not recently, ever? I’m just a little surprised and wondering if it’s happened to anyone else.
