I am curious if the UofM revokes degrees for any reason. Whether it be academic dishonesty, misconduct, or anything else. For the record, I have not done anything that warrants this. I am genuinely curious. I was reading about a PhD being revoked at the UofT. That is what prompted this question.
Honestly, I just needed to rant out here because I finally had to drop $104 on Pearson my lab on top of paying $50 for a third-party discussion forum like FOR WHAT! Both only account for 25% of my grade and both do the same things that UM Learn can do!! it is diabolical having to pay so much on top of paying tuition I am sorry but these profs are crazy like could you just not use UM learn and in what world does it make sense to pay $104 for 10% of the grade? I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!
Doesn't help that I am also in another course that requires Pearson mylab for $104 and guess how much it's worth? yeah only 10% of my grade.
But yeah I don't know where else to complain so thought I would rant here lolll
So this summer I’m stuck with 2 options and I’m not sure which one to pick. Any advice would be appreciated!
Option A Biochem 1 (may-June) HNSC 1210 (May-August) (free A+) WOMN 1600 (May-August I think) (should be easy)
Option B Organic chem 1 (July-August for some reason) HNSC 1210 (May-August) (free A+) WOMN 1600 (May-August I think) (should be easy)
I’m in my first year in the faculty of Science and for both the fall/winter term I’m taking 4 courses (80% course load) and I was wanting to take 2 classes during the summer. One of them being CHEM 2100 and the other one being a religions course which is RLGN 1324. I know that the summer courses tend to be very fast-paced. Does anyone think It would be a good idea to take both these courses if there was anyone who took organic chemistry in the summer along with another one???
I’m looking to speak to someone in the dentistry program at U of M I just have questions and need some guidance.
I want to get my car’s oil changed, I am new to all of this so if anyone can suggest good/reasonable places where I can get it from in winnipeg or any other advice would be great!
looking for a 3 credit arts elective
Hi, I have noticed on campus a lot of non-Indian yet subcontinental people including myself being misidentified as Indians by other Asian and non-Asian people. Its ridiculous to the point where I feel like any brown looking Asian qualifies to them as Indian. The argument that it's okay to assume we are Indians because of our names or because of our skin color or because of our location in the subcontinent kinda falls apart because Myanmar exists and I have never seen a Burmese person being called Indian by anyone even though it is part of the same sub-continent. Like its the equivalent of assuming/calling Canadians/British people Americans. We are just Asians. Yes we people in the subcontinent share a lot of culture with India but historically speaking, we can trace ourselves to all over Asia mainland or not (even parts of Southern Europe, Northern Africa and Australia). We are in no way different than our East or West Asian cousins. I am sure many of our moms like to keep bragging to us about the amount of money they have poured into us our education our whole lives and ask why we still don't call them enough. If you can't even see this then at least do the minimum of saying South Asian then Indian.
Is there a lost and found in St. Paul’s College? Thanks in advance
I'm a U1 student and I plan to transit to science faculty this summer. When I check the academic calendar, it is said if I would like to enter my target major, my dgpa should be 3.00, but I don't know where to check my dgpa as it don't show in the UM Achieve. So I just want to ask the students who used to be in U1, how do you know that your dgpa already meet the requirement? By the way, I noticed that I must get at least 3.00 for dgpa, then I could get the chance to graduate. Do you guys think it is hard and stressful to achieve 3.00 dgpa? How you guys think about your major so far?
I know the program is competitive but I'm curious as to what kind of grade averages people get for the direct entry direct entry, and when you typically hear back with offers.
All Quite Pods have been booked up.
My booking account to book a study room for groups got locked (just now, cus i forgot the password)
given these, anywhere I could use my laptop for one coming week's online course at the university?
Thank you all.
I need advice for this class. Theres a test coming up and i dont know what to expect. the prof gave as readings that will be based on the test so i made notes on that and read the book. Anyone knows how to become a TA, and are you strictly need to be a graduate student?
Has anyone taken BGEN4010 (Project Course in Human Genetics)? I can't find much information on it and I know it probably depends on the prof supervising you, but I would really appreciate input on the level of difficulty, how you are graded, time commitment, etc.? Thanks in advance!
I am graduating with my PBDE on February 5th and want to get my transcript sent in to teacher certification ASAP to get my upgrade in classification. If I request a transcript be sent on February 6, will it have updated to show that the degree has been conferred, or should I wait a bit longer to make sure?
I know about international centre and the community centre. What other supports is there on campus?

A civil engineering competition where almost every Canadian university sends a team is happening at U of M this year. (https://www.cscecompetitions.ca/en/home/ ) As someone who grew up in Winnipeg, I'm glad to see U of M being willing to showcase itself and this will be a positive for Winnipeg tourism. U of M has great things going for it already. Part of why U of M is hosting is because our team won Bronze last year. However, there are obvious logistics and urban planning issues.
U of M doesn't have enough campus housing. In past competitions, teams usually lived on campus since the competition happens in summer, meaning lots of available beds, but U of M doesn't have enough beds even during the summer. For example, UWestern has 6200 beds, UBC has 14,000 https://vancouver.housing.ubc.ca/ but UManitoba only has 1300 beds https://umanitoba.ca/housing, which is the least amount of any Canadian university. Even the universities people make fun of such as U of Regina and Lakehead U in Thunder Bay have more. Many participants will have to live in hotels far away, wasting time and money.
U of M does not have many amenities surrounding it. First of all, it's located in a suburb. U of M is furthest away from its own city's downtown compared to other universities. But suburbs can have good design. One key quality of life metric for university students is the amount of "third places" (search that up if you haven't heard), as in social spaces like coffee shops, public benches, etc.
Other universities, even those in small towns and suburbs, often have mixed-use apartments next to campus with restaurants. The apartments close to U of M have 0 stores on the ground floor (other than the Arc), and 0 public benches. Such things should be the bare minimum of any neighbourhood close to a university. In addition, many buildings on/near campus in other universities have student-run coffee shops with 50-cent coffee, free board game lounges, etc.
Bad roads, bad traffic signal design, sidewalks, etc. Civil engineers especially notice that stuff. Just imagine a UBC student being used to Skytrain and no pothole roads having to travel down Pembina Highway which is almost the textbook definition of bad design.
Stereotypes about dangerous stabbings are exaggerated. However, the recent AVM situation indicates that security could be better. I don't think we have to be like U of T which locks every door after 8 PM, but there should be some measures.
TLDR: the U of M campus and areas around campus might be a disappointment for people from other universities and cause negative stereotypes about Winnipeg to become worse
On the bright side, if some participants leave campus area and explore the rest of Winnipeg, that might change their stereotypes. I really hope that some would be willing to explore The Forks, Winnipeg Art Gallery, try a museum or two, try some Filipino and Indigenous restaurants (really rare in other cities), and truly appreciate Winnipeg.
i put on Travis Scott's Rodeo in all of it's entirety. it's gotten me through some of the most serious, serious times where a lock-in was needed. i get so energized. curious what the beautiful people of uofm put in their headphones/speakers :)
Ladies, I have seen so many post about guys being creeps or so, but how do guys get to approach you without getting to be a creep or having to be feel like he is a creepy to you. Any word will help because I have a crush on someone but her class is immediately after my class but I don’t want to be a creep to her and don’t want her to be uncomfortable!
Thanks. As I said kindly answer and this will be helpful Cheers
Hey guys, anyone has an idea of what the Nursing AGPA cutoff for summer 2025 is going to be ? I’m very nervous
Hello guys, we’re done week four of twelve which is 1/3 of the semester already. And usually around this time annually, my motivation tanks. Winter Blues really affect my mental health and I start caring less and less for school but this year it’s even worse. Does anyone else feel this and what do you do to stay motivated and lock in. it’s like my body and soul are craving summer so mentally im starting to check myself out.

The Graduate Mathematics Society is hosting the University of Manitoba's first ever Mathematics Bee!
What is a Math Bee?
The University of Manitoba Mathematics Bee (UMMB) is a math competition for first and second-year students with fun and creative problems to challenge their skills in Calculus 1, 2, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Math. Assemble your team of up to 3 people and compete for U of M Math fame and glory (and prizes)! If you don't have a team, that's okay, we'll assign you one.
The U of M math grad students will ask a series of questions ranging in difficulty (easy, intermediate, advanced). You get 1 point for easy, 2 points for intermediate, and 3 points for difficult. It's not a race to who gets the question first. If you solve it within the time limit, you earn those points fair and square! We will tally up the scores as we go to declare a team as the 2025 Ultimate UMMB Victors.
When and Where?
We plan to host it on February 26, Wednesday at 5:00 pm. It will take place in Senate Chamber E3-262 EITC.
Who is eligible?
We welcome first and second year students from the University of Manitoba, as well as other Manitoba post-secondary institutions. Unfortunately, we are not open to students in their third year or above in the name of fairness.
Check out our website for more information and register here.
$80 for CONVENIENCE FEES?! are u kidding me? Isn’t there a way of not paying those stupid fees when i am paying my term? Is there a way to go and pay the fees in person? :(
