I'm a current freshman at this UC and would love to join a fraternity here. I'm torn between Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Phi, and Omega Delta Phi. What are the pros and cons of each? I know that a lot of people on this subreddit kind of talk mess about frats so I'm not really looking to hear about that, I'm honestly looking to join one for the networking and ability to have my brothers lol.
does anyone know if attendance is taken for chem 010 lectures over the summer and if we have to go to them?
Wondering because a huge chunk of our student body relies on financial aid so will we be hit hard by this?
Hey everyone, this is Joe, co-founder of Coursicle. We just launched a new feature that lets you keep track of your assignments on Coursicle, including automatic syncing of assignments from Canvas: https://imgur.com/a/p939bYp
We know not all professors are good about putting their assignments online so we thought it'd be helpful to have a centralized place where you can see all your assignments organized by class and when they're due, including the ones your professors don't post (you can add those manually to Coursicle): https://imgur.com/a/naP3xme
Here's a link to try it out: https://www.coursicle.com/ucmerced/?s=reddit
It's a very new product, so we'd love any feedback you have. We'd like to know what we'd need to change about the task feature that would get you to use it on a daily basis. All Reddit users who give it a try and comment below with feedback will get a free semester of premium. Thank you!
Hello, Me and a roommate created a modded Minecraft server. The server is running all the mods 10 through curseforge, and can be found locally if you're on the ethernet.
Hi! I was just wondering if anyone else who applied to the SJV Prime program heard back for an interview? I know they said late January to early february, but just wanted to see if they began rolling out interview emails!
Thanks and good luck to everyone l!
Are any of you interested in potentially working on a new student newspaper for UC Merced? Looking to see if there's interest in this because we're currently the only UC campus that has no official student run newspaper. Seeing this it kinda made me curious to take this up as a side project and scale this enough with like minded people so that we can have an established newspaper for years to come. I'm aware that we used to have a newspaper called the prodigy which was shut down because they lost funding from ASUCM. Another was started last year but looking at their work it seems kind of unprofessional and disorganized. We would want something that can become official for the campus and report on stuff from campus and also be like a newspaper for the city of Merced too. That's similar to how the ucla and UC Berkeley newspapers act. I'd love to hear you guys's thoughts on this and if anyone's interesting in further discussion we can dm about it too.
Basically just the title but I'm wondering what the logic was in the decision behind moving up to D2 in athletics? Like I think it's a pretty good thing we're moving up but won't it also drive up the cost for the athletic department? We're already facing potential budget cuts and this will add a bigger burden to that. Also I'm wondering if there will be any substantial changes to the UCM athletics besides the fact that we'll be competing against bigger schools which are mostly all CSU's. Will we get any new sports or any new sporting facilities? I think that stuff like baseball fields and a track field should be built soon.
Hey, me and a few others are doing a 5-30$ buy in tonight, message me if you want to join.
Hi everyone!! I'm a high school senior who is considering going to UC merced. I already got my acceptance and i've applied to the honors program. If I decide to go, I'll be entering the fall 2025 semester as a Human Biology major. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the cons of the school, since I feel like all I really see as cons are that it's not ranked as high as other UC's or that it's not really social. I'd also like to hear about any pros about the school/ why you chose UCM over another school.
Can someone DM me with some extra information if they know anything?
I'm kind of lost at this school to be frank. And I'm not good with social media.
I applied a few jobs here on campus and I have not gotten a response. I'm deathly afraid of public speaking. I need to save up some money for future travel for a possible internship 50 miles away from my house so I'm thinking of saving money for gas. I applied for a few jobs on campus if anyone has any details or a way to get a job here I would be interested maybe via DM. One of the jobs I applied to and reapplied due to some errors was "Recycling/Composting Student Assistant - Student Asst 1". I'm struggling to get an on campus job and I would be grateful if I could get that kind of experience as well. I also struggle writing resumes and cover letters I have sent maybe what feels like a couple hundred applications by now and I have seen people post in the past how they only applied once and didn't have any experience and got the job quickly. Maybe something is wrong with my resume or general approach. Yeah I'm confused send help (lol).

Hey everyone! Initially starting as a newsletter project here at UC Merced, I just launched a new app called Coffi News which tracks California bills and Merced city council reports. We convert their legal jargon into bite-sized easy-to-read content, so you can understand what our lawmakers are doing and how they are impacting you without taking too much time out of your busy day. Would love feedback and support so we can make this information more accessible to everyone :)

Regulars might recognize me as a UCM professor. I've seen one or two posts on here asking about discussion sections and labs, and three students in my big lecture class this week have asked whether they're supposed to go to discussion.
Yes, you have to go to these. They're part of the class design. In the case of my classes (social science) they give you a chance to actually talk about the things we're studying.
If the professor says they're optional, or one particular section is cancelled, then you don't have to go. But assume you have to go unless the professor explicitly says otherwise.
If you don't want to go because what happens in discussion/lab doesn't seem useful, then talk to your TA and professor! TAs are grad students, and probably literally no one has ever taught them how to run a good discussion/lab. Some constructive feedback could make a world of difference.
</rant>hello, i’m a sociology major and a cres minor. i’ve taken enough credits to double major in cres but im not sure if i’d be able to do that senior year last semester, any thoughts?

Hi everyone,
Currently in my second year at a CC. I missed the application deadline for UCM and will be going to CC for 3 years. I’m pretty confident i’ll get in. I’d be applying CS. If i got in, is it possible to complete the degree in 1 year? Has anybody heard of this? I’d prefer to only spend 4 years in undergrad which is why im asking.
Thanks!
Whats a easy major to get in with ?
Hiii! I’m a freshman CSE major living on campus, and I’m trying to meet more people this semester! (and potentially creating a study group!) We could study together, or even just chill around campus. If you’re down, my dms are open, and we can exchange socials!
Hi i know it says that a senior is not permitted to declare double major but i have all my classes done for both majors and would finish both of them in fall of 2025, would it still be possible to submit a double major form and a petition??

I'm thinking of transferring to UCM and I know a good amount of info about the area, but I was wondering if anyone knew if there are any trustworthy mechanics nearby who could help if I run into a problem :/
