Years in the dirt, yet they go bad in a few days?

Why do truffles go bad so quickly? Since they spend 6-10 years in the dirt, why not just ship them in the same dirt, so they'll keep longer?

Cleaning freshly harvested truffles?

I have had 3 stellar days this week with my dog in Oregon, and have brought home about a pound of white truffles. With the ground still being fairly wet, most come home a bit muddy. I have let them dry then tried brushing off the dirt, but it isn't working as well as I had hoped. I am thinking maybe I should clean them before the mud dries. How do you best clean your fresh truffles?

Truffle Hunt Recommendations

Hi all, new to the community and recently just went on a truffle hunt here on a US based farm. It was a great experience but I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t as hands-on as I would’ve liked it to be (it was more observation based so we didn’t really dig for the truffles ourselves, or learn how to wash/handle them). Additionally, I understand that they’re expensive, but it would’ve been nice to take home at least a little bit of what we found on the hunt (considering what I paid for the experience), even if they were just shavings. Anyway, wanted to see if anyone had recommendations for truffle hunting tours, either in the US or Europe. In a perfect world, I’d like to get the most out of what I pay for, such as getting to keep some truffles we find and having a post-hunt cooking course. Would love to hear about any experiences you all have had!

Frozen Truffle Confusion

So I had the option of ordering a frozen black truffle that was described as "smaller than 20g" for 25$, and one that is "bigger than 20g" for 32$, and I went for the larger option. Upon receiving it, the package contains 10 black truffles that are 3-4cm in diameter each, and collectively weigh roughly 270g. Did someone majorly screw up?

Important question for this community

Hello, I have a question regarding the Tuber Melanosporum from Spain, are they banning the export/stopping hunting in march? My supplier is saying some pretty fishy stuff & I think he’s trying to gatekeep them for other clients (he’s an actual ahole/ f** but I have to buy off him bc I know no other, I don’t fully believe him tho because he’s now switched twice on the reason why

Looking at some of the science behind truffle dog performance. Can you teach an old dog new tricks? We know that personality is important but what are the exact traits we are looking for in a professional search dog?

US Truffle Spore Source

Hi there, looking for a decent source to try inoculating my own seedlings. It looks like most of the sources selling spores are EU/UK based and am wondering if anyone the US had any success with them. Also curious if anyone has a decent US based spore source.

Thanks!
