Hearing of people getting disciplined for accessing CATS on the company pro ided tablets while on duty. Where does it specifically say you can't access this?
All I can find is not to use the EOM while actively switching or while on the ground and foul of a track. Anyone could share the document info so I can cover my ass, much appreciated.
Any folks from signals US here, I’m planning to migrate to states in next 6 months. I was wondering if anyone has any kind of information about work schedule, on call assignments, heard a lot of rumours about guys in states are salaried not hourly, just wanted to know a little more. Any leads would be highly appreciated
I’m 23 years old with a wife and young daughter. I’m extremely poor and am a few thousand dollars in debt. My dad joined the railroad about a year and half ago as a conductor and has been trying to get me on ever since but have been uninterested because of his unpredictable schedule and constant travel which doesn’t work for me because I have a young family. But a year later and I’m extremely poor and need to figure out a solution and there’s a conductor trainee position about 2 hours from me and it’s a primary recall, which from my understanding and what I’m trying to figure is that you stay and work only in that location? Or if there is travel is it less frequent? I just want to know if I should bother because I don’t want to be constantly driving from state to state while I have a daughter at home that’s not even 2 years old. Ever since my dad has been on a year and half ago he’s only been home twice and that’s not the life I’m tryna have. Granted his wasn’t a primary recall but still. But at the same time I’m kind of desperate and need to get out of debt and atleast work it long enough (a couple years) to save enough money to figure something else out.
URR is starting to incorporate M-Crew in an "effort to reduce human error in car movement communication between crews." Theyve started to get us in the system but I personally havent had to use it yet and I'm not really liking the idea so far. Does anyone here use it and how do you like it?
Brothers and sisters I have a question. I am a former qualified conductor from CN and thinking about returning. For now, I don’t see any openings at CN, but there are in Revvy for CPKC (I know, the rent is high, but the scenery and I love the mountains). Should I wait to return to the CN, (I suppose they will start to hire soon) or apply to CPKC?
How much do you make in Revvy and what are the terminals you are going to?
Anyone having back issues from sitting on shitty seats with no air ride? It seems to be becoming an issue in my terminal with a few people off for it. I know I'm getting close to that. The seats are awful, if they even work at all.
Trying to understand how the train crew role works as a new hire.
If I hire into the Fort Worth territory I understand I could be assigned a location like Pecos, Sweetwater, Dallas, etc. My question is if somebody lives in Fort Worth, do they move to the new location? Or is it more temporary only requiring to stay in a hotel? How frequent do these locations change?
How do you do afford to keep moving around?
Good Morning ! Recently saw that Amtrak had posted for Passenger Engineer Trainee in Boston and was wondering what the Pay and quality of life, schedule and what routes like the Downeaster would that applicant be running ?
Thank you in advance !
Does anyone have any info on this terminal? Switching from Norfolk so any info is much appreciated
Any word yet on if its actually happening? Pickets up at midnight Monday night? Whats the main sticking point? Do the supervisors or contractors just do the work? Do the trains stop at some point?
Let's get the speculation and rumor mill going for next months arbitration! What do you guys think we are getting/loosing? Whoever guesses closest I'll send you a prize!
I think status quo, no major changes.. 2 year deal, 7% total raise...3% per year, no change to heldaway, reset breaks will be at home only. Back pay since contract expired.
I recently applied to a company that does railroad repairs. They said I didn’t pass my first background review due to two misdemeanors I received maybe 3 months ago. They were for littering and seatbelt. I plead guilty and have to pay my money by March this year. She said that the railroad companies have to review. Do yall think they will deny me due tho those simple misdemeanors or I should be fine after the review??
Hello, to anyone who's worked for NS, or any other railroad that could give me some insight. I just got a conditional offer to be a conductor for NS out of Illinois. I've done some research on the training, and what it consists of, and it definitely does get my nerves going. The physical aspect, im not too worried out. I've been to welding school, I've moved heavy things around, I've been in super awkward positions welding, etc. But it's the mental side that seems to get me going a bit. Some of which, includes the signals test, hazmat tests, the mid term tests, that sort of thing. I wanna say that it's difficult, unless you study without necessarily burning yourself out. I don't know, I can't really say until when my start date comes out.
Maybe I'm just overthinking it a bit. Some say it was easy, and I'm appreciative of the practice tests, and then others say they got kicked out. I guess my question is, is the mental side of conductor training really that hard? I do have some anxiety when taking tests, but I am also the type of person where if you really focus on getting something done right the first time, you can get anything done.
Anybody know what bnsf physical fitness test consist of ????
Called crews to get on the ticket for familiarizing but they haven't put me on.Anyone know if it's considered smuggling at that point?
Does anyone know when they are planning to pay out un used PLDs/Sick days in 24’?
Anyone here work for the shortline that services the ports of long beach and los angeles ? If so I'd like to ask u the difference between conductor and assistant engineer ?
Does anyone know the training pay rate for new hires?
I’m thinking about learning to run the box. I have a couple questions. Is there any overtime on yard assignments? How long is the training class? How many starts do you need as an RCO trainee? Is it better then switching with an engineer? I heard you can be forced to cover a RCO vacancy regardless of your current assignment/terminal. Is that accurate? Thanks
I applied for shop laborer Tuesday, I was wondering if anyone knew how long it should take to hear back from them? Says that if I’m not selected they won’t call me at all, how long should I wait to know if they ain’t gonna call
All but two of our normal jobs are run in remote, and they all use two boxes in a pitch/catch system. Any other railroad I've seen use remotes only use one box, are there any other railroads that use two boxes on their crews?
Anyone know the different application "stages" on the CN rail job dashboard?
I was called late December and told they "intend" to offer me a job but need to do my background check first. My background report was sent to HR within the last week and then today the status changed to "closed" but they haven't sent me an offer or reached out to me yet. I know my background check came back fine. I was told by someone internally that they may delay hiring for the position due to internal issues so I'm trying to figure out if that's why it changed to closed without a word or if thats the process while they finalize the offer to present. I want to give them a few days before I reach out.
This is not a field position
Hi railroaders, I was hired, and next month is going to be my training. My question is/
Currently, I'm taking 67K on current job (8hrs a day), is it worth to cross-over on rail job?
Thanks for answering.
I showed up for my shift and was told by a co worker working in the yard that they cancelled the shift. Do you still get paid for showing up? CMC never even called me to tell me the shift was cancelled.
Is there a minimum time that you can have rest after they cancel your shift? Can they tell you to come back 8 hours later for a shift?
Is it different for familiarizing?
Hey everyone,
I recently received two job offers from the same railroad company and could use some insight from those with experience. The positions are:
For those working in either role, I'd love to hear:
Any insights about either position would be greatly appreciated, especially from those who've worked both sides. This would really help me make an informed decision.
