Water flosser to help get out stones?

Today I went to an ENT to discuss options to cut back on tonsil stones. I've had them for years practically every day and I'm really over it. I tried to buy a water flosser (on the cheaper side) to try and get them out as she recommended. However, even on the "softer" setting it feels like being stabbed in my throat. Anyone have experience with one they can handle? I feel like there's got to be better ones out there.

Tonsillectomy?

I’m a really sensitive person and I can feel these things often as soon as they start. I only get them on one side of my throat and it just keeps getting worse and worse. Been dealing with them for 2-3 years and I honestly can’t take it anymore. I suffer when removing them, it’s a horrible experience every time, and lately im having to do it multiple times a week. Today I’ve gone at my throat twice and removed a ton of pieces but I can still feel pain in my throat and ear.

Has anyone had a tonsillectomy to end this nightmare? Or what have you done to cure it? I can’t do this for another 70 years if I live to be old lol. I’ve seen ENT a few times and he referred me to a surgeon to talk about my options.. I’m going in January. Just want to be somewhat prepared / know what I want to do by the time I see them.

Having trouble swallowing

Over the past few months I’ve had trouble swallowing, like actually having a hard time getting myself to swallow food. Sometimes when I try to eat I also get nauseous. This whole not being able to swallow normally thing is making me super anxious. Is this normal with tonsil stones? I also have a history of GERD and reflux but it’s been relatively under control. I did go to the ER recently because I felt like I had something stuck in my throat, which may have actually been a tonsil stone. Anyways I’m losing a fair bit of weight, eating food isn’t super enjoyable anymore and it’s really bumming me out. I will be going to my primary care doc to get things checked out.

Tonsil stone, piece of skin, or something worse?

https://reddit.com/link/1ggn063/video/93z90mne65yd1/player

I regularly get tonsil stones and I have sort of become a pro at removing them. I throw everything at them, and always get them out pretty quickly. This white thing has been there for a long time. At least a few months, maybe much longer. It only shows when I "flex" my tonsils, and is otherwise hidden in a bottom enlarged part of my tonsil. Everything I try to get rid of it, it doesn't budge in the slightest. Whenever I gargle salt + ACV + lemon juice, tonsil stones in other places dissolve, but this one never changes. I can't grab it, or suck it, or pop it out, or anything. So I don't believe it's a tonsil stone, but something else. I was thinking it could be a piece of hidden skin, but I can physically feel that something is back there. I really hope it's not something like cancer.

I'm thinking about scheduling an appointment with an ENT, but last time I went about issues with my eustachian tube and ear pressure, he looked for 5 seconds and said it was just from mouth grinding and anxiety. I always felt I had hidden tonsil stones, and the other day I found at least 20 old dark grey ones that come out from behind my anterior tonsillar pillar. My doctor thought I was crazy and said "there's no stones!". I guess he didn't know what tonsil stones are. Anyways, I don't really trust most doctor's opinion these days, so I thought asking online would be worthwhile before going in.

FYI if you have acid reflux, allergies, or anything else that may be producing excess mucus, that could be contributing to your tonsil stones

I’ve seen many people confused as to why they have tonsil stones. Of course it’s important to make sure dental hygiene is present but we all know that. I’ve spoken to multiple EMTs about this. If you have a condition like allergies or acid reflux (or really anything else that triggers excess mucus production) that can definitely be contributing to the stones because that mucus will settle in the tonsil crypts and accumulate bacteria and food as well.

Here is my solution ( important )

For about two years, I suffered severely from tonsil stones. I never had tonsil stones before, but they started appearing after I contracted COVID-19. Waking up every morning and swallowing that disgusting taste of tonsil stones was frustrating. I was also constantly worried that the smell might be noticeable to others, which added to my irritation.

Every two weeks or at least once a month, I would visit the ENT clinic to get the stones removed. Even after removing them thoroughly with a laryngoscope at the clinic, they would return within 2-4 weeks, often coming out unexpectedly while I brushed my teeth.

The ENT specialists couldn't pinpoint the exact cause of the stones, but they said surgery was the only definitive solution. I decided not to undergo surgery, viewing it as the last resort. As I wondered why these stones only appeared after COVID-19, I started researching online and found that tonsil tissue degeneration might be strongly linked to tonsil stones.

So, I began searching for non-surgical solutions, referencing sources on Reddit and other sites. Here are the methods I tried, which I’d like to share with you all, as I found a lot of helpful information from others online.

Currently, I no longer taste tonsil stones when swallowing. I’ll be confirming with an ENT visit soon to be completely sure.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Gargled with salt water first thing in the morning.
  2. Took a Vitamin D3 + K2 supplement (right after lunch).
  3. Took a multivitamin (between lunch and dinner in the afternoon).
  4. Took Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin D, and Zinc (after dinner).
  5. Brushed and gargled my throat along with my teeth before bed (using a gargle containing Benzethonium chloride).
  6. Took an oral probiotic after gargling and let it dissolve in my mouth before sleeping.
  7. Drank weaker coffee instead of strong coffee.

I haven’t listed specific product names, as I didn’t want this to come off as an advertisement.

I hope this helps free you from tonsil stones.

Thank you!

How to remove?

Hi!

I am new to this group. I have been struggling with tonsil stones most of my life and I am at my wits end with these. They are making my breath smell absolutely horrific. It’s so embarrassing. I have seen multiple ways to remove but I have horrible gag reflexes. Even the thought of pulling one out makes me projectile vomit.

I’m just asking, has anyone removed these successfully without triggering your gag reflex?

My Doctor suggested a tonsillectomy, What do I do?

Hello! I need some advice on what I should do. I am a 18 year old female and I've had tonsil stones since I was young and every few days I have to use my fingers to take my tonsil stones out, they are not painful just very uncomfortable.

I visited the ENT and he said there is no other option for me but to get my tonsils removed since I have very "bad" tonsils. He said prescribed me some anti-allergy medication to fight the infection but said that the only solution to my tonsil stones are to get the surgery.

Do you think it is worth it? The only issue I'm having is thinking about the risks involved with the surgery since I wouldn't say healthcare is the safest in my country. My parents are against it due to the risks, but I am inclined to it since my tonsil really bother me and i dont want to prolong so much that in the future my infectios get worse.

Any suggestions/advice?

What is the best way to check one's breath?

Making a cup with my hands and blowing into it doesn't help that much, while licking my wrist also didn't give me too much to work with. I have relatively persistent tonsil stones, but my main issue is that I don't always know when they form. Also, sometimes they are not visible enough to be seen easily. I generally never have any symptoms, aside from one time when it grew large enough that I could kind of feel it with my tongue and right now when my throat is sore (99% sure that it has to be because of the stones on the top of my tonsil). Advice?

Help! Are they still here?

So this morning I coughed up a tonsil stone for the first time ever. Afterwards I done a salt water gargle and ended up coughing another one up. After this, I brushed my teeth and rinsed with mouthwash which was fine but now i’m eating my lunch I have that horrible taste of them in my mouth. Does this mean there’s more in there? I can’t seem to see any when I look so unsure if it’s just the remnants of coughing them up or purely psychological?

New to tonsil stones

I always would cough up a stone or two here and there but never went digging and finally did about a month ago. Totally freaked me right out. Anyways coughed up another one at work and had a feeling of something in the back of my throat and lodged a TON of little stones from the same part as last time until they were all out. I checked other areas and the other side but there wasn’t anything, so it seems I just have one problem area. But I went out and bought probiotic gum and this colloidal silver liquid to gargle with because I heard it helps dissolve them? Is it normal to have tonsil stones appear in outbreaks? What else can I do to help them go away and prevent them from

Help I’m being paranoid

I have one tonsil larger than the other one on the left, no white spots, no pain, no sore throat, no swollen lymph nodes. I am just lowkey panicking.
