I had my tonsilectomy exactly a week ago today. I'm having a really hard time with my scabs coming off. Instead of swallowing them, they het stuck into the hole where my right tonsil was. It's not only annoying, but it hurts a lot too. Everytime I swallow it's being pushed into that hole even more and it hurts so much. I tried gargling with salting and drinking a lot, but it just goes to the back of my extremely swollen uvula and it hurts even more there.
I don't know what to do. I can't eat and swallowing hurts so much. What can I do to get the scabs out?
If you have bad breath and is wondering why. Check ur tongue after brushing. Immediate white covered tongue is a tell tale sign of stones being present. It re appears after 30 min.
Hi all, I’m 17 and have been struggling with bad tonsil stones for a while. I remove them almost weekly because they’re super annoying and I can sometimes feel them when I swallow. My right tonsil is large and has deep cavities where the stones fester, but my left tonsil is completely normal and never has issues. Some background I think may be connected: I also have a weirdly shaped ear canal in my right ear and have dealt with ear problems my whole life. I’ve had multiple ear tubes put in because fluid builds up behind my eardrum. My ENT suspects I might not have a proper drainage tube at all but, since I’m a minor, I can’t have the experimental surgery to confirm and fix it with a balloon procedure. I currently don’t have an ear tube in, but my ear hasn’t been bothering me lately, so I haven’t had another put in.
I’m wondering if my ear issues could somehow be connected to my tonsil stones. I told my mom about the stones, and she said to avoid sugar because she thinks that’s what’s causing them. I’ve been considering getting a tonsil stone removal kit with a special syringe. Right now, I’m using the dull end of a dental pick to push them out, but I’ve accidentally drawn blood a few times, so I know that’s not ideal and could be damaging my tonsil.
Should I go ahead and get one of those removal kits and keep taking the stones out regularly? Are there foods I should avoid to stop them from forming in the first place? Is my ear tube issue related to the tonsil stones, and should I consider getting another tube put in? Finally, should I just consider having my tonsil removed altogether? Any advice would be awesome, I just want to stop getting tonsil stones!
Hello,
My husband has had a slew of symptoms since March of this year and in the last few months developed tonsil stones. They seem to "refill" every month or so, and he's able to get most/all of them out on his own, but he says they're a lot each time.
Symptoms that started in March: Swelling in lymph node area on neck, discomfort in neck (going from lymph nodes downward.) We saw our PCP and she said it was post nasal drip. He tried a few allergy medications and nasal sprays and it persisted. Blood work clear.
After dealing with this for a long time, he finally got tonsil stones back in September. He saw an ENT in October who gave him a very quick exam, said tonsil stones at present seemed to be gone and it was his salivary gland that was swollen, said that was not a concern. Was told to drink more water and sent on his way.
He had a bunch of tonsil stones last night and has some redness around his tonsils/uvula and red spots on his uvula. I am reading sometimes tonsil stones and tonsillitis can go hand-in-hand and it can present as redness/red spots. (His allergies and post nasal drip are still a thing, too.)
Should we seek a second opinion from another ENT? Should he go to a dentist? Back to the PCP? Is a tonsillectomy a likely outcome here? How often is "normal" to get so many stones?
Thanks so much for your time!
I've been operated on six days ago now. Everything went quite okay until my scabs started to come up. My gag reflex is very sensitive and I just couldn't handle the scabs and my uvula constantly touching it. After a long day of anxiety it happened, I threw up. It was traumatising, I was gagging, choking, and the scabs came off. I must say I did feel relieved aftedwards having tho vile scabs finally out and feel the space in my mouth. I hadn't looked in the mirror because I try to avoid that, but it felt like they had all come off.
But then I went to sleep and it felt like very thick slime was forming on the places where my scabs used to be. I kept trying to swallow it but it just kept coming. I looked in the mirror and it looked like scabs but very soft and slimy. I thought maybe my scabs were forming again, but I thought maybe not because it was day five and my scabs were coming off anyway, so maybe I just sped up the process? I really, really hope that is the case. Does anyone know how that works and if my scabs are indeed growing back?
Thank you
Hey guys, I sometimes get tonsil stones, however I was eating dinner (just spaghetti and grilled chicken with breadsticks) and as soon as I finished eating I noticed a SHARP shard feeling pain in the back of my throat/nasal passage. I tried to mouthwash it out, look in the back, nettipot myself and NOTHING it just hurts to swallow and move around my neck. Could this be a tonsil stone?
I had my tonsils removed five days ago, so today is my fifth day of recovery. The scabs had formed and they were already starting to come off. Now I threw them up. Will there be new scabs or will it just heal normally now?
I’ve been seeing people talk about using a syringe to remove stones. How exactly does that happen? If the stones are jammed inside, would a gentle squirt of the syringe actually help at all? I’m newly struggling with this problem (no idea why this suddenly happened) and I cannot use fingers or qtips to push because I have an awful gag reflex and am emetophobic (fear of throwing up). I’m desperately searching for effective ways that won’t make me gag. Please help!
I'mn on day five of my tonsilectomy recovery and I'm in a horibble situation that makes me feel very hopeless. Last night my scabs started coming off and this was very awful for me. I had to keep drinking and drinking so it would go down my throat and I could swallow it (really awful but I have no other choice). It's the next morning now, 8:30, and I've been up since 4:00. I have a problem, because my scabs are coming off again but it's literally stuck in my throat, hanging down on my gag reflex. I've been feeling like gagging and vomiting for hours and I don't know what to do. I'm drinking so much, but the scab won't come off. I really can't throw up because I have a phobia for it and it will damage my throat, there's all wounds and sensitive flesh in there, throwing up would hurt so much and would rip the scab off very hard. Please help me, I feel so sick and I don't know what to do.
Does anyone else have constant tonsils stones forming ?? I could remove a few in the morning then by night there’s still more! Basically same thing everyday mind you my tonsils are not even big just filled with crypts
