Kids from a nearby school keep leaving rubbish outside my house—what can I do?

Hi Reddit, I’m looking for advice on a frustrating issue. There’s a bus stop right outside my house, and every day after school, kids gather there to wait for their bus. While I don’t mind them being there, the problem is that many of them sit on my wooden retaining wall or stand around in front of my house and leave rubbish behind—chip packets, drink cans, you name it.

I’ve tried reaching out to the school, but their response is always the same: they say they’ll remind students to behave at bus stops. It hasn’t worked. I still find myself cleaning up after them regularly, and I’m worried about potential damage to the retaining wall as well.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Do I have any other options to address this?

Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions!

Increased criminality

Hi everyone!

Is it just me or has the crime rate increased in suburbs? I'm looking at the Saint Andrews / Pukete community group and there are about 8 different events of crime mentioned in the last few days. From stolen cars, stolen car tires, people walking into houses and steal bags with car and house keys, people breaking into cars, dodgy people snooping around propertied. Also happening during the day.

I can't recall that it ever has been this bad. What happened?

Where to buy imported/unusual energy drinks?

I drew someone for work secret Santa that I know nothing about except they drink a lot of energy drinks. I thought I'd try and get some imported drinks that don't see commonly. Any suggestions on places that might sell something along these lines?

Is this normal neighbour behaviour in Bader?

Last week, I noticed on one of my security cameras someone unknown to me climb over my fence on one side of my property, have a bit of a nosy and then climb over the other neighbours fence.

When I noticed this on the cameras, I walked around the back of my property behind the garage, glanced over the fence where he came from, walked to where he went and glanced over the fence for maybe 2 to 4 seconds, just to see if anything was out of place. Skip forward a couple days, my elderly neighbour (80+) who I've never spoken to or seen much is attaching old bits of corrugated iron to the back of our shared fence, making it a bit taller. I thought this was a little odd but anyway, figured I'd pop my head around the corner and show him the footage of the guy jumping into his yard, just to make him aware and also a bit of an excuse to say hello as I've not had any interaction with him.

Our fence doesn't quite go the whole way along the property, so I walked to the end of it, poked my head around the corner and said a casual "hey mate!", when he didn't respond, I took a step onto his property to get his attention, well, that was a mistake. I was greeted with a barrage of "Stay on your side!", "I don't want to talk to you!", "Mind your own business!", "F***ing nark!" and just more of the same. I attempted to ask if I'd done something to upset him but couldn't even get a word in with all the anger coming from him.

I'm genuinely confused as to what I might have done. As I said I've never interacted with him before, and the only thing I can think of is me sticking my head over the fence for a few seconds, but I didn't see anyone there when I did that?

The only other thing I can think of is I called the police when someone wearing a balaclava was snooping around our house during the day (who came over a different fence).
Or maybe he doesn't like the fact I have cameras? Not sure. So confused.

Our kitchen window also slightly overlooks part of his entrance way. I now feel uncomfortable being in the kitchen as I'm worried he's thinking I'm looking in his direction.

Should I be worried?

Migraine cure

Day 3 of the worst migraine of my life. Apparently you can get Sumatriptan injected up the arse and it clears it within hours. Thinking of hitting A&E up about this tomorrow but can anyone verify or suggest anything? Only posting here because will be going to local A&E.

Holiday/Christmas Volunteering

Hi Team! I'm looking to see if anyone can recommend a place they have previously volunteered or know someone who can point in the right direction.

My father passed away this year and I have 1 family member in Europe and the other in Asia so would like to not completely waste this year and give back.

I Need a Good Hair Salon Recommendation for Thick & Curly Hair

I moved to Hamilton from Auckland last year and have been really disappointed with the hair salons I've visited since being here. Its like they dont know how to cut or style thick curly hair lol. I've been told I have enough hair on my head for 3 people.

In Auckland I had my haircuts in South Auckland and usually by either African, Polynesian or Maori hair stylists - not sure if that makes a difference but I was always really happy with the outcomes.

I just need someone who understands how to cut thick curly hair without it coming out crooked, dry and choppy.

Cladding repair recommendations

Hello helpful people,

I need some repairs done to my cedar cladding (2 story house), and was wondering if anyone has some recommendations for companies to go to or stay away from.

Googling seems like pulling a name out of a hat and hoping for the best, some from google search are:

  • Working from heights specialists

  • Graham walker builders

  • First|Rate|Finish

  • Pzazz building

  • and others I am sure

I appreciate any help offered =]

Ethernet cable running along floor in rental

Hello everyone,

I'm just wondering about an ethernet cable running along the floor to my modem from the Fibre box. I'm planning on putting a mat over it so it's less of a hazard and was wondering if this would be sufficient enough? The other tenant in the property has an issue with this as they think it's a fire hazard hence why I'm wanting to ask for advice

TIL Cervical cancer can be eliminated in New Zealand

Hey guys, thought I’d drop this in here to spread awareness for a good cause.

Cancer Society NZ has created “The Book that Ended Cancer” – a story about the elimination of cervical cancer. It could be a true story with an epic ending, but there’s a catch. The story is unfinished, missing the part where the people step up and join the call for action.

By adding your name, you join the story, and become part of the book that will be presented to government. This is a groundbreaking chance to see a cancer ended within our lifetime, so if you would like to be a part of this kaupapa, you can add your name through the link. 😊
