From the first verse on the first song of the first album. Julian has been telling us all along we been fooled
The band should call it quits after the next album. If Julian really just thinks of it as a day job, as he's been quoted to have said by random articles and some of yall on here, then why not close out the story of The Strokes with the next full length release? I would not want to see a situation in any way similar to Jane's Addiction situation. Thoughts? I'm not that serious about it tho.
its ITI, ROF and Tyranny for me.
So I'm particularly new to The Strokes and going through their discography. And this song caught my attention...Not only Julian sounds a lot alike Brandon here but it literally sounds like a Killers song to me! Anybody else hear the similarity or am I tripping?
Does anyone know why he has the lighting bolt on his amp ? Is there a story behind it?
By the time you’re reading this it’s most likely at 600 million.
Meet Me in the Bathroom is better than Reptilia
I can see a highlight reel of my life up to now playing to it. I wake up in the night with it stuck in my head. wat do i do?
With the holidays fast approaching and some of us being able to have some down time, here’s a great documentary/VLOG of The Strokes. This video follows the band through their European tour in 2001, right before the release of Is this it. I know this video has not been shared recently but it’s a must watch for any Strokes fan.
Looking back at this, the VLOG style of recoding was well ahead of its time, bravo to Ryan (wiz kid management) for putting this together !
I have mixed feeling about first impressions of earth but oh my god im so happy i got into the strokes for songs like red light its so underrated. I mainly wanted to talk about the lyrics and how romantic they are, like we dont talk enough about the sweetness of lyrics from the strokes in songs like selfless, alone together, and red light obviously. I love how alot of the romantic wording sounds like an old man flirting with an old lady but its in julians 20-something year old voice and how theres a lot to feel there. Red light tells such an emotional story between two lovers using such cut short phrases its really impressive honestly. Im a young woman and that song just always gets me in the feels!! Yeah idk julians a great writer a lot of the times and we dont talk about his romantic side enough, but then in first impressions of earth you also have lines like "dont be a coconut✨"
Does anyone wish that the Strokes would do deluxe or expanded editions of their albums and do the singles count as deluxe versions?
Maybe some would disagree, but I would argue that The Strokes were at their cultural and energetic peak during these tours. Unfortunately, I was only 9 when ITI came out and 11 when RoF came out. I didn’t even really get into them until 2016 when I was 24 actually.
For those of you old enough and lucky enough to have gone to a Strokes show during their early days, how was it?
I live in Bangalore and never really met any huge strokes listeners but I am visiting mumbai(bandra) for a few days so I was wondering if there are any of yall over here. Especially since they performed here last year.
Oh, to be like 13 again. This photo was taken at a family wedding on a weekend in August of 02’. Time flies. Still own that shirt, but I’m not a small anymore.
during the next voidz show, I will distract Julian and some of you guys steal his cellphone and take all the money from his bank account.
He will have no option but record a new Strokes album
problem solved. Thank you
It’s a German band inspired by the strokes. They sing English and have some pretty awesome melodies.
This is mine so most will not agree with me lol
Painted on 15x15 cardboard with chunks cut out for texture. The new abnormal mullet era.
What exactly was the point of the Future Present Past EP?
The more I dwell on it, I come to the conclusion something was in the works but never blossomed. Outside of some platitude-filled reviews and Wikipedia, there's hardly any information about the release. They did a live set on Kimmel if I'm not mistaken (it exists out there and isn't hard to find) which implies they might've had a little more in the gun around this time.
This thing is about as self-aware as the Strokes get, it just makes me wonder what a record from this period would've sounded like? Should I even bother daydreaming about it?
Drag queen, fear of sleep, 15 minutes, YOLO, last nite are instant skips for me. To name a few.
What songs come on shuffle that make you instantly skip?
Edit: why is this being downvoted? It's a legit question lol
Edit2: when I discovered the strokes, I discovered FIOE first so I spent about a year and a half straight listening to YOLO, among other songs. It's a great fucking song, I'm just tired of it
Edit 3: last nite and fear of sleep seem to be the most skipped songs
