The Fallout Diaries:

A place to flesh out your own unique tale of exploring the world after Fallout, what is your own geographical location like after the end of the world and how did you survive, what are you going to do with the rest of your life in the now wasted Earth?

New Rules (as of 6/25/19)

Rule 1: This is primarily a fiction based subreddit in the Fallout Universe, so keep it that way. Previously, this was a light RP and fiction sub, however, due to lack of community the RP is mostly being taken out of it. sorry

Rule 2: You must include a link to your previous post in your series, you don't have to include a link to the next part but it's nice to have.

Rule 3: You cannot be the protagonist from any of the games (Courier, Chosen One, etc). We're keeping this rule simply for the fact that you can be original enough to come up with your own protagonist, and furthermore your own Fallout geographical area. Feel free to tell us how you version of your town is in Fallout.

Rule 3b: No in-game companions. Some interaction with in-game companions is fine, as long as they don't play a major role in your story. Again goes back to having original ideas. Why have Arcade as a companion when you could have Jimothy the Ghoul who follows you around because he can't speak and you're nice enough to feed him.

Rule 4: Ad homenim attacks on writers is absolutely forbidden. Anyone caught doing so will have the post removed and be warned not to do it again, if they continue to do so they will be banned from the sub. Also to add to this: no racism (except against ghouls, mutants, etc. #MutatedRights) or bigotry, etc. I mean we're not all snowflakes but c'mon its 2019 be decent.

Rule 5: Format your posts so they are readable.

Rule 6: Proper spelling and grammar is required unless the character is not literate enough to be able to speak and write in that manner.

Hopefully the new rules open it up some to people, we used to have extra that were RP based

Ovid the Brave: A Fairytale from the Legion

In the Colorado, in such-and-such village, there was a legionary named Ovid the Brave. Mars smiled upon Ovid and Ovid made Mars proud every day. One day, Ovid’s decanus said to him, “Ovid, exterminate a pack of savages and I will give you one beautiful slave woman.”

Ovid then went out, a hunting rifle in hand and killed a patrol of savages, each one shot right in between the eyes. His decanus gave him a beautiful slave woman and said, “Ovid, capture a village of savages and I will reward you with two beautiful slave women.”

Ovid then went out, a machete in hand, and chopped the head off of every adult man in the nearest savage village, turning in the newly captured slaves to his decanus and taking none for himself. His decanus rewarded him with two beautiful slave women from his newly captured flock. Then his decanus said, “Ovid, go out and conquer a savage stronghold and I will reward you with three beautiful women.”

Ovid went out, barehanded, to the nearest savage stronghold and snapped the neck of every adult man. He gave the newly captured slaves again to his decanus, taking none for himself and from these slaves, the decanus rewarded him with three beautiful slave women. His decanus then said, “very well Ovid the Brave, Mars loves you. Make your way to Flagstaff and there Mars will have for you a beautiful subject woman to make your mater familias.”

Leaving his slave women behind, Ovid went out and after a long time or a short time, he came across a deathclaw. Ovid readied his rifle to shoot the deathclaw, but the deathclaw said to him, “Ovid the Brave, spare me please and I will bring you to your subject woman.”

The deathclaw then carried Ovid on his back to flagstaff where they found a subject weeping at the gates.

“What is wrong old subject? Has the Legion not provided you with safe roads and food on your table?” asked Ovid.

The old subject answered, “yes sir, the Legion has given me that, but a heretic has taken my daughter.”

The deathclaw said to Ovid, “the heretic holds his daughter, but he has metal armor that can stop any bullet and a rifle that can melt any man. Go to such-and-such village, in that village is a bunker, in that bunker is a safe, in that safe is a gecko, in that gecko is a radroach, and in that radroach is where the heretic stores the power for his degenerate technology.”

In such-and-such village Ovid found the bunker. Ovid ripped open the door to the bunker and found a safe. Ovid blasted open the safe and found a gecko. The gecko tried to run away, but Ovid shot it and out came a radroach. The radroach tried to get away, but Ovid stomped it and inside found the source of the heretic’s power. Now that he had the heretic’s power, his pre-war armor and weapon could not work. The heretic was frozen in his suit and Ovid picked the heretic up and slung him over one shoulder, then picked up the subject woman and put her over his other shoulder.

Ovid took the heretic back to Flagstaff and sold him into slavery. The old subject was happy to see his daughter and offered her to Ovid with a dowry of one hundred acres of irrigated land. The deathclaw then said, “Ovid, your slave women back home have plotted against you and the other Legionaries in your Conturbernium lay with them.” The deathclaw then left and ate all of his slave women and the Legionnaires, except the decanus, who was always honest. The decanus was impressed so with all of Ovid’s achievements that he petitioned the centurion to have Ovid retired from service, which gave him a great amount of gold that he spent on many slaves.

Until this day, Ovid and his mater familias live on their one hundred acres and oversee their slaves who farm mutfruit.

A small diary about a boy living with the railroad, and struggling with boredom. I hope this is okay here, I dont see any posting rules and this is the only fallout fan fiction sub Reddit I can find.

I’m writing this because I’m bored. Mom doesn’t let me go outside anymore so I don’t know what else to do. Tom used to play cars with me but he’s been so busy lately and I have nothing left to do but sit here. Mom doesn’t want me wandering around anymore either ever since they found a ghoul in the tunnels. They still don’t know how it got in. I miss Dad. He’s been gone for weeks looking for synths. It’s usually only a couple of days at a time but mom is saying because of the rad storm he probably had to hunker down in the city. I hope he’s okay. I never want to see my dad as a ghoul but I’ve heard so many stories from the other kids about ghouls. Billy said he saw his uncle turn into a ghoul. Said he couldn’t stop drinking rad water and one day he just went feral. I hate that thought. Sometimes I wish I was a synth. Then I could go outside and play as long as I want without even thinking about rads! I’m so tired of this stinky hazmat suit. I don’t even know where they found it but it stinks! And because of the recent storms mom won’t even let me see the sunlight until they know for sure it’s passed. If it ever does pass. They keep saying this is the longest storm they’ve ever seen. I’m so bored. Writing like this only helps until I’m done writing. Sara and billy say reading is better than writing but I’ve read all the books we have a hundred times! Maybe I’ll write my own book and everyone here can read it! Mom sometimes tells me of stories about how hundreds of years ago when there was no rads and kids just played outside all the time and went to big buildings called schools. She said they had rooms full of thousands of books that anybody could take home and read. I think she said they’re called lie berrys? I don’t know what that means but I’ve heard her say that several times. She taught me how to read and write and said that In those big schools there would be a bunch of grown ups like her that would teach kids to read and write. She says one day when the rads clear up good enough that she wants to make a school and be the president there! I told her I’d be her first student and she laughed and said “you’re already my student!”. I just wish dad would come back. He has all the best stories from above ground. Some of them are really scary and mom hates it when he tells me those because I get nightmares. He said there’s a monster they call a deathclaw but if one sees you, you’re already dead. I asked him if he’d seen one then and he said “only a baby one, I had to leave it a lone because I feared the momma was close by and I didn’t want to get torn to shreds” mom was so mad when he told me that but I just laughed. The super mutant stories are the ones that scare me. Unimaginable horrors is what dad always says. When my dad comes back blanked faced and soulless everyone knows he’s come across mutants. He says they used to be people just like us but they were used in experiments that made them 10 feet tall and really strong! I hope I never come across those guys when I get older. Everyone says when I’m old enough I either have to be an engineer like Tom or learn scouting from my dad. Why can’t I do something else? I either have to be stuck underground bored to death or have to risk my life on the outside? Billy used to live in the city before his mom and dad brought him here he said it was so much fun he got to play all day in a giant park. But they don’t have very good protection from rad storms and apparently everyone just turns to ghouls eventually. This sucks. I think I’m going to be stuck underground forever. My dad said one day he’ll get his hands on a suit of power armor. Apparently it’s a machine you can get inside that protect you from everything! Maybe then I can go outside…

Backstory for my 76 character

I recently started writing about my fallout character, I had initially hoped to write a short little story explaining some of his exploits. That quickly changed once I started writing, it's far larger than what I had intended. Currently there are three chapters with more being written

It focuses on USAF Captain Max Miller and his team as they try to deal with the fallout of a nuclear strike. Max and his team are veterans of the anchorage campaign and serve as para rescue, flying there vertibird into dangerous areas to save lives. The story starts with them having been transferred to west Virginia just before the bombs dropped. They will be shown a very different side to the us government or should I say, enclave. Loyalty and morals will be pushed to breaking point.

The story coincides heavily with the MODUS timeline, and will feature the events leading up to the coup in MODUS's bunker, as well as the various atrocities they commit along the way.

I've tried to keep it as close to the lore as possible but there may be some inconsistencies, some of the lore is spotty at best.

Here's the link to the story on my wattpad

https://www.wattpad.com/1009427823

If this is against the rules let me know and I'll take it down

"Hello, this is Corporal David Garamond, of the >!(REDACTED)!< 3rd Ranger Battalion. I've been put in charge of the Logs, so I guess I'll tell."
You hear the man clear his throat then come back.
"Okay so, we've had a run in with the local gang, The Escapists, approximately 42 Gang Members had been holding up in this Church. They gave a good fight but we managed to kick them out. We've set up defensive positions and have requested over radio several supply runs and reinforcements."
You then hear some shuffling of papers and the man clears his throat once more.
"Okay so we've lost several men and several more are injured. Private Richards Schmitt, Shot to death by an Escapist during Escapist retreat, Corporal Trent Greene, stabbed in the back and bled out, Lieutenant James Tarentine, killed by Shrapnel blast to the face. Those are all the men who were killed, now for the Injured."
You hear him flip a page and once more clear his throat.
"Corporal Fletcher Jackson, leg broken from fall off Church stands, Sergeant Arnold Johnson, shot in stomach. Overall we're down by 5 men and require reinforcements and resupply."

Road to the Devils Backbone (Fallout Route 66 prologue)

Midwest BOS
Journal Entry July 4th, 2290
Remains of Richland Missouri.
Corporal Juiles Dekker, 6 miles south of Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri. My Great Grandfather made history by inviting the savages into the fold, but sometimes I think it was a mistake. My battalion was told to search out a small town near Fort Wood Missouri when we first encounter the ones calling themselves "Atom Cats". Damn fools wearing power armor and listing to music so loudly, it was deafening. We were within 50 ft of them before they even noticed us, Soon they were all over our men examining out "Cool threads." I think I hate them already. So concerned about looking cool the leader, Zeke, soon had our technician explaining how to recharge our power cores. I had to stop him and now he is washing all the toilets in camp. These new recruits are so amazed at the customized suits and cool attitude. I will make sure to inform our Superiors about this behavior. Can't believe what I heard, they are asking to join. Saying they have been around the "Devils Backbone" enough that they got all the hot spots dug up already. I can't think of a way to refuse them a chance to join, but I will make sure they go crawling back to Boston.

~Cocktails of the Wasteland~ (Contains Minor Spoilers)

The Date is 8/21/2288

Introduction: Let's say you are in Fallout and you walk into a bar. Depending on which Fallout Title you find yourself in the alcohol selection and cocktails may change. I'm going to list cocktails that would still be possible to make in Post-Apocalyptic America along with their Availability and Price in Caps. And thanks to [dwill2168] from GameFAQs I will also be providing a price in USD. [dwill2168] was able to find the value of a Cap in USD (2009) 1 Cap = .69 cents & 1 Dollar = 1.44 caps. This will help show you how the value of each cocktail has changed in Post-Apocalyptic America.

1. Nuka-Ria

a. Red Wine Glass (No Ice)

b. Use Diced Mutfruit & Tarberries instead of Ice

c. Fill 2/3rds with Red Wine

d. Top with 1/3 Nuka-Cola Orange

e. Garnish with 3 thin slices of Mutfruit

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas Sarsapa(gria) Alternative: 7 Caps | $10.08

Fallout 4: 8 Caps | $11.52

Fallout 76: 11 Caps | $15.84

Fallout 76: Blackberry Alternative: 12 Caps | $17.28

Info: The Nuka-Ria and Sarsapagria are the Post-Apocalyptic versions of the Sangria. It seems that Post-Apocalyptic America is severely lacking citrus fruits like Oranges, Lemons, Limes, Grapefruits, Pineapples etc. So Nuka-Orange or Sunset Sarsaparilla was used in place of the Orange Juice and Lemon Lime Soda. Peaches were replaced by Tarberries, and Barrel Cactus Fruit or Mutfruit can be used if you don't have any Fresh Apples. Don't forget to try the Blackberry Alternative If you're visiting Appalachia.

1. Sarsapagria (Alternative)

a. Red Wine Glass (No Ice)

b. Use Diced Fresh Apple & Barrel Cactus Fruit instead of Ice

c. Fill 2/3rds with Red Wine

(Description: This cocktail should appear Yellow-Orange in appearance with the skins of the diced red apple pieces being semi-visible)

Fallout 76: "Dirty Whiskey" Alternative: 2 Caps | $2.88

Fallout 76: "Whiskey & Toxic" Alternative: 1 Cap | $1.44

Fallout 76: "Bourbon & Toxic" Alternative: 1 Cap | $1.44

Info: Due to the lack of ingredients in the wasteland, Whiskey & Water might have gained some popularity. This cocktail is cheap yet refreshing since it comes with Ice. However, cocktails that come with ice will be much less accessible to those living in the wasteland since it requires electricity to make. Ice-based cocktails will probably only be available to purchase in major cities like New Vegas, Vault City, Diamond City, Megaton, Good Neighbor and even some of the larger settlements of the wasteland. Some cocktails will use nicknames based on their ingredients like a "Drugged Whiskey" which uses Drugged Water and Whiskey as it's main ingredients.

3. The Washington Apple

a. Cocktail Glass (No Ice)

b. Add 1.3oz of Whiskey to Cocktail Shaker

c. Add 1.3oz of Mutfruit Schnapps to Cocktail Shaker

d. Add 1.3oz of Cranberry Juice to Cocktail Shaker

e. Add Ice Shake and Pour

f. Garnish with a slice of Mutfruit

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: N/A

Fallout 4 Tarberry Juice Alternative: 9 Caps | $12.96

Fallout 76: 7 Caps | $10.08

Fallout 76 Tarberry Juice Alternative: 9 Caps | $12.96

Info: Notice Fallout 4 can only make an alternate version of The Washington Apple using Tarberry Juice. Sure it costs more and you might even soak up a few Rads, but most would agree that the taste of Tarberries is much better than Cranberries.

4. Bloody Larry

a. Cocktail Glass (With Ice)

b. 1.5oz Vodka

c. 0.5oz Brahmin or Bighorner Bouillon

d. Top with Homemade Clamato or Tato Juice

e. Garnish with a Carrot stick

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: 11 Caps | $15.84

Fallout 4: 14 Caps | $20.16 [Add Bacon for 1 Cap | $1.44]

Fallout 76: 11 Caps | $15.84

Info: The Bloody Larry is similar to a Bloody Mary. Unfortunately the cocktail is quickly going out of style in the wasteland due to the extinction of Tomato's (and Potatoes) in 2287. People were then forced to switched to the mutated hybrid Tato. Tato now fills the role of Tomato's and Potatoes for most of the eastern United States making the Bloody Larry possible to make still but the cost is steep. The Bloody Larry got it's name in New Vegas sometime after The First Battle of Hoover Dam. A seemingly wealthy man by the name of Larry had taken up residence in the Gomorrah. Larry quickly became a frequent customer at the Brimstone Bar where he could always be found drinking a Bloody Mary. Well one day before Larry had arrived for his usual, a mysterious man in a long trench coat was at the Brimstone having a drink. Upon Larry's arrival The Mysterious Stranger jumped up out of his chair, pulled out a Revolver and shot Larry dead. It was unclear why The Mysterious Stranger killed Larry as he seemingly disappeared in the commotion that ensued after Larry was shot. However things quickly came to light once Larry's personal items were recovered. Wedding rings, lockets, pocket watches and more all matched the descriptions of missing persons from a once occupied town a few miles south of New Vegas. Since the incident, the cocktail has forever been referred to as the Bloody Larry. However, if you were to visit New Vegas today you may notice that the Bloody Larry no longer contains Tomato. But due to it's popularity the casinos of New Vegas have done everything in their power to try to mimic the Bloody Larry with new ingredients. Although most agree it just doesn't taste the same.

5. Blackberry Lemon Drop

a. Cocktail Glass (No Ice)

b. Add 2oz of Vodka to Cocktail Shaker

c. Muddle Blackberries in Cocktail Shaker

d. Add 2oz of Lemonade to Cocktail Shaker

e. Add Ice, Shake and Pour

f. Garnish with Blackberries on a toothpick

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: N/A

Fallout 4: N/A'

Fallout 76: 5 Caps | $7.20

Info: The Blackberry Lemon Drop is similar to the Blueberry Lemon Drop. However, because there are no Lemons for trade, Lemonade must be purchased from Mr. Squeeze. Ironically, it doesn't contain any Lemons as Mr. Squeeze says he uses alternate ingredients to make it taste like lemonade.

Fallout 4 "Gourds & Cream Martini" Alternative: 7 Caps | $10.08

Fallout 76: 7 Caps | $10.08

Fallout 76 "Mutfruit Martini" Alternative: 4 Caps | $5.76

Fallout 76 "Melon Martini" Alternative: 3 Caps | $4.32

Fallout 76 "Tartini" Alternative: 5 Caps | $7.20

Fallout 76 "Cranberry Martini" Alternative: 5 Caps | $7.20

Fallout 76 "Gourd Spice Martini" Alternative: 8 Caps | $11.52

Fallout 76 "Starlight Martini" Alternative: 9 Caps | $12.96

Fallout 76 "Mothman Martini" Alternative: 11 Caps | $15.84

Info: Martinis will still be a thing in Post Apocalyptic America. However with Vermouth being impractical to make and hard to find, you will have to say goodbye to the Classic Martini. Only flavored Martinis will be available in the wasteland. For those visiting New Vegas, if you didn't like the new version of the Bloody Larry you should consider trying a Mojave Martini before leaving town. If anyone out there truly loves Martini's I highly recommend you visit Appalachia. That region is home to a large variety of fruits making it a perfect place to drink some Martini's.

  1. Mojave Martini (Alterative)

a. Cocktail Glass (No Ice)

b. Add 1oz of Vodka to the Cocktail Shaker

c. Muddle Prickly Pear Flesh in Cocktail Shaker

d. Add 1oz of Barrel Cactus Schnapps to the Cocktail Shaker

e. Add 1oz of Banana Yucca Fruit Schnapps to the Cocktail Shaker

e. Add Ice, Shake or Stir & Pour

f. Garnish with a Prickly Pear Wheel

(Description: This cocktail's appearance will be dominated by the muddled prickly pears, appearing Purple-Red in color. The prickly pear wheel garnish should be Green, showing off the White-Yellow insides with the seeds)

  1. Pumpkin Spice Martini (Alterative)

a. Cocktail Glass (No Ice)

b. Add 2oz of Vodka to the Cocktail Shaker

d. Add 1oz of Pumpkin Schnapps to the Cocktail Shaker

e. Add 1/2oz of Pumpkin Puree to the Cocktail Shaker

c. Add. 1oz Starlight Fruit Schnapps to the Cocktail Shaker

7. Root Beer Rum Float

a, Pint Glass (No Ice)

b. Add 1 Scoop of Homemade Iced Cream to Pint Glass

c. Add 2oz Rum

d. Add 6oz of Nuka-Wild

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: N/A

Fallout 4: 20 Caps | $28.80

Fallout 4 "Nuka-Cola Float" Alternative: 20 Caps | $28.80

Fallout 4 "Vim Float" Alternative: 20 Caps | $28.80

Fallout 76: [Unaffordable]

Info: Though still probably unaffordable at 20 Caps, the Root Beer Rum Float is proof that if you have enough Caps, you can indulge in some of the delicacies of the Wasteland. If you're visiting Appalachia you can still gather the supplies to make your own Homemade Iced Cream but at a huge cost since Brahmin milk is much more expensive there.

8. Black & Tan

a. Pint Glass (No Ice)

b. Add 8oz of Ale to Glass

c. Layer 8oz of Stout on top of Ale

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: N/A

Fallout 4: 7 Caps | $10.08

Fallout 76: 7 Caps | $10.08

Info: This cocktail is simple and does not require Ice to make or drink so it might gain a lot of popularity in Post Apocalyptic America.

9. Rum & Cola

a. Rocks Glass (With Ice)

b. Add 2oz Rum

c. Fill with 2.5oz of Nuka-Cola

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: N/A

Fallout 4: N/A

Fallout 76: 11 Caps | $15.84

Info: If you thought Rum & Cola would be a thing in the wasteland then you thought wrong. Nuka-Cola and Vim cost about 20 caps per bottle making it difficult for bars to work with. However, in Appalachia the cost of a basic Nuka-Cola is only 10 Caps. Though this is much cheaper in comparison to other cities, if I'm paying 11 Caps I'd rather get a Mothman Martini.

10. New Vegas Bomb

a. 2oz Shot Glass

b. Add 1oz of Vodka to Shot Glass

c. Add 1/4oz Barrel Cactus Fruit Schnapps to Shot Glass

d. Add 3/4oz Prickly Pear Juice

e. Fill a Rocks Glass with 8oz of Sunset Sarsaparilla

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: 4 Caps | $5.76

Fallout 4: "Boston Bomb" Alternative: 12 Caps | $17.28

Fallout 76: "Firecracker Bomb" Alternative: 14 Caps | $20.16

Info: The New Vegas Bomb is the Post Apocalyptic version of the Vegas Bomb. In prewar times the Vegas Bomb was often drank in what was considered the "New Vegas" area. So to be fair, it should be called the New New Vegas Bomb.

  1. Boston Bomb (Alternative)

a. 2oz Shot Glass

b. Add 1oz of Whiskey to Shot Glass

c. Add 1/4oz Mutfruit Schnapps to Shot Glass

d. Add 3/4oz Tarberry Juice

e. Fill a Rocks Glass with 8oz of Nuka-Bombdrop

(Description: This Mutfruit and Tarberry cocktail gets it's name from the bomb that destroyed Boston in 2077, the one that many believe created the Glowing Sea)

  1. Firecracker Bomb (Alternative)

a. 2oz Shot Glass

b. Add 1oz of Whiskey to Shot Glass

c. Add 1/4oz Firecracker Schnapps to Shot Glass

d. Add 3/4oz Cranberry Juice

e. Fill a Rocks Glass with 8oz of Nuka-Cherry

(Description: This cocktail gets its name from the exploding fruit that is native to the region. Don't worry though, they're safe to consume once picked)

11. Cherry Berry Fizz

a. Collins Glass (With Ice)

b. 2oz Vodka

c. 2.5oz Tarberry Juice

d. 2.5oz Nuka-Cherry

e. Garnish with Tarberries on a Toothpick

<>

Fallout 3: N/A

Fallout New Vegas: N/A

So I left hopefully they won't try and get me back I don't intend on going back to the brotherhood of steel. but the main reason why I left is because we help civilians we were the protectors we saved them from super mutants raiders the talon company and the slavers of Paradise falls. So I decided to travel West trying to go back to the Pacific coast to fine the brotherhood of steel and get them to change their ways technology is not important saving the Innocents are important.

Entry 001 2087

Finally made it...into hiding away from prying eyes, God...I hope Eliza made it out safely. I wonder if any of the crew escaped those fucking ghouls. I've never seen ghouls that riled up before, somethings really pissed 'em off. Maybe the Royals finally kicked the hornets nest?

I found refuge in what seems to be an old museum in the ruins of Yorkshire, some swords and sheilds lying about that maybe I could use to defend myself. If anyone finds this note, my name is Jon...and I fled the ghoul infested city of Manchester where I got seperated from my crew...hopefully they walked the same train tracks I did, I'll be moving on after I gather some supplies, good luck to you stranger.

So I'm forming a Fallout 76 Writer's Group in game for wanna be podcaster or machinima style creators

https://i.imgur.com/tshCRv1.jpg

Because of our show I've been getting a lot of people who have asked a lot of questions about starting their own Fallout 76 storytelling podcast or doing a fun machinima style series with in game footage. It's actually way easier to start than you'd think, so with 3 others who are doing/have done this very thing, we're starting an in game writer's group that will meet at my camp campfire bimonthly to help workshop your stories, figure out how to get started, etc. I started doing this hoping that more people would be inspired to write tales of their own...so if you want to, any are welcome to join! We're on PC, but anyone on any console can join us via voice in Discord. Our first meeting is Thursday, June 11th at 6pm EST. If interested, let me know!

Touchdown to Tomorrow: Recording 2

My name is Major Allen Franklin Collins. The date is October 28, 2077, assuming it is before midnight.

I had intended to spend yesterday trying to find civilization, but I felt tired and I had trouble thinking straight. I stopped eating the "Dolphin Swordshark" and drank a lot of water, but it kept getting worse. I didn't consider radiation poisoning until my gums started bleeding. Apparently, my water purification tablets are useless against it. I started boiling the water and took one of my Rad-X rations. After a while I started to feel better. Rather than spend the day walking, I elected (read that as "didn't have the energy not to") spend the rest of the day in place.

I still have my transponder and it is still active.

I started north just after sunrise. After a couple hours, I found a road or what's left of one. I abandoned the coastline to follow it north. It was surreal. I occasionally came across derelict cars and decrepit buildings. The cars don't work l. The houses are in such bad shape I wouldn't consider entering them, much less spending the night in one.

Eventually, the road turned westerly and sometime in the afternoon, I found civilization, or what remains of it.

I think I'm in Riviera. The city limil sign is nearly destroyed, but you can read the 'ier' and half of the "v". I found a place to sleep at the Baffin Bay Lodge.

The whole town seemed empty until I saw what I thought was a cop a couple of blocks away. I shouted and waved and he came running to me. I didn't think much of it until I saw his face better. It was wrinkled and had places where the flesh had come off. By the time I realized something was wrong he charged me with a snarl and tried to bite me. I managed to judo throw him, but he came back for more. I waited for his attack and side stepped it, grabbing his wrist and tried an arm lock, but the pain I had to be inflicting seemed to do nothing. I felt his shoulder dislocate, then he broke his own arm to turn around to attack me, so I kicked him hard on the inside of his knee and felt it snap out of joint. He went down hard, but he tried to get back up, so I snapped the other knee. He tried to get up again, but couldn't.

I tried talking to him, but it was like talking to a stray dog. He would look at me when I talked, but there was no comprehension I was even communicating.

After this, I found a convenience store and grabbed what little food I could find. I have enough deviled eggs and processed pork to last a couple days.

Has Riviera been wiped out by rabies?

EP.1***NCRPR BROADCAST***

This is N C R P R........ Today, The New Californian Senate has voted on a resolution to extend aid to former legion held territory east of the colorado river. Newly elected President Juli, Granddaughter of late president Tandi has expressed hope in rebuilding the eastern tribes. In her closing statement on the matter, President Juli told reporters that "The West was not built in a day, yet through hard work and determination we have built a nation of shining opportunity and now look to do the same for those in the east". Despite opposition from members of the senate who advocate for outright annexation of the former Legion, The President, and her cabinet have expressed the idea of nation-building. As a result, those within legion territory willing to work with NCR officials have begun to organize their territories into a new nation-state. The Flag Staff republic as it has been unofficially named after the legions former capital and founding place for the new republic is working tirelessly to route out any and all remaining Legion Loyalists. Flagstaff has been in constant contact with Shady Sands relaying all information pertaining to the Legion Loyalists and it would seem that within the year we may finally see an end to the fighting.

In other news, Mr. House of The New Vegas Free state has expressed his best wishes for President Juli and her cabinet as Vegas looks to build stronger relations after the failure of NCR's annexation of the region some 20 years ago. Kimbell's Folly as the annexation has been characterized as had left the NCR and New Vegas on the brink of war but the war-weary republic focused all its anger towards President Kimbell who was swiftly removed from office due to his failure on the matter. The following years have been kind to New Vegas as its wealth continues to grow and its industry sectors are beginning to take shape. Although its wealth and prosperity are not evenly shared the New Vegas Free state continues on a track to becoming the wealthiest nation in the wasteland.

And that's the way it is. until next time dear listeners, this is Walt Cronk-kite of New Californian Republic Public Radio keeping Californians informed and giving wastelanders hope.

New Endeavors [Ch.4]

Chapter 3

###March 23, 2290, Midnight.

So Winston died. Shot by fucking Carol. I was never fond of him but he did do what he was told, and that’s all I asked from him really. The fact of the matter is that he killed that Crimson Caravan doofus that Harry brought to the motel, and for that I won’t forget his deeds, for the time being at least.

Not long after Carol’s sudden intervention, she offered to help carry Winston’s body to a nearby dumpster. Harry remained behind in my office, but not before I gave him some towels to cover up his gunshot wound. Fortunately, he only got shot in the left shoulder, which is good because he’ll still be useful in the long term, even if he can no longer supply me with chems. I had no stimpaks on me, and the old Followers clinic was devoid of medical supplies since they left. From what I heard, not long after the Followers left town, some freelance doctor tried to start up his own practice using the old clinic, but Fiends shot up the place, killing the doctor in the crossfire. I’m guessing the Fiends took whatever was left from there as well.

As it turns out, we couldn’t find a dumpster to hide Winston, nor was I in the mood to give him a proper burial, so we just carried him to the closest derelict building and just dropped him off there. Poor guy, he would have been good muscle, like Jacob but without the chem addiction. I told Carol the truth about what I was doing in the motel, and she was surprisingly onboard with it. Not enough to help me out, but enough to understand. She said something about doing whatever it took to survive in the wasteland, which is a good philosophy to have these days.

When we got back to the office, I finally confronted Carol about why she was here at all, and how she got wind of this. Harry was still in the office, but Carol kicked him out, as she wanted this conversation to be between me and her only.

“Alright,” “Carol sighed. “You cannot tell anyone else about this? Understand? Zero. No one. At all.”

“What?” I slowly approached Carol in suspicion. “Who the fuck are you, really?”

Carol turned around slowly and took a deep breath. “I work for the NCR.”

“Work for the NCR? You work for them? Like, what do you do?”

“You know how the Legion has their Frumentarii? Well I’m basically like that.”

“Are you with the Rangers or something? And does Arnold know about… all this?

“No, and actually, yeah, he does know.” Carol blushed. “Somehow he managed to figure it out himself, and was actually….eager about what I did.” “He used to keep asking me if I had interesting stories, but up until now, most of my old assignments were nothing more than gathering information. Most of my work was back in California, I never even set foot in the Mojave until after we beat the Legion the second time!” I even-”

“Save me the sob story for later. So has the NCR been keeping tabs on me then?” I slowly stepped back and sat down on the bed. “Because if so, I am flattered, I really am.”

“What? No, that’s not it all!” Carol paced back and forth for a few seconds before finally coming to a halt. “Arnold was right about you, you really do have an ego.”

“Ego? Is that what he calls it? No, it’s called intelligence, which involves using my fucking brain!” I tapped my forehead. “Your husband survived all those years because of me, so remind him about that when you see him again!”

Carol bit her lip, eyes peeled at me, ready to tear my heart out. It was clear that I aggravated her, but all she did was take a deep breath. She has self-control, I’ll give her that. I also want to admit that for a second there I really did believe I was on an NCR list somewhere until Carol dropped that bombshell on me.

“Ignoring your pretentiousness,” Carol flipped her long auburn hair. “If you really want to know why, it’s because there’s something much bigger going on.

I stood up. “Such as?”

“There’s a girl named Maya Taylor. She’s a mercenary, a real hardass, and to make it better, she’s a member of the Enclave.”

“Enclave? How do you know that?”

“After the NCR took control of Navarro, we also acquired records of all the Enclave personnel stationed there. Her name was brought up more than once.”

“And what does all this have to do with me?”

"There's been reports of several items gone missing in recent caravan shipments, notably chems, ammunition, and various electronics. And it just so happened to coincide with whatever you and your buddy have been scheming here in this fucking dump, unless you’re stealing electronics as well.”

“Harry? I only had him steal chems, but that’s about it. I don’t know anything about missing ammunition and electronics.”

And it’s true. I really don’t know what the hell she’s talking about when she mentioned other missing items aside from chems, unless Harry is stealing them as well. If he is though, he’ll be joining Winston in the dumpster shortly.

“Well from where I stand, there’s only two ways that this could be happening.” I stood back up, stretching. “Either she’s sneaking in and stealing them herself, or she has someone on the inside.”

“Why don’t you help me with this then?” Carol started to crack her knuckles. “You’re well aware of the bounties the NCR has placed on these Enclave war criminals, they pay very well.”

And that’s also true. The NCR pays a hefty amount of caps for any captured Enclave members. I’d say that the risk is well worth the reward.

“Alright,” I nodded. “I’ll help you find this Maya Taylor you speak of.”

“Great! For now, just keep a lookout until I say otherwise. Oh, and one last thing. I won’t tell my superiors of what you’re really doing here in this motel. But if you don’t want any authorities to come knocking, my advice? Turn this place into an actual motel, and take the chem business to the side.

Carol left before I could even get one last word in, but she was right. I could turn this place into a functioning motel just like the one in Novac. All the rooms here are accessible at this point, as the debris that blocked some of the rooms in the past were gone. It’s just a matter of making this place look more presentable for travelers and kicking out the junkies who currently reside here.

At that point I went outside to look for Harry if he was still around, and sure enough, he was, sitting on the side of the door, holding in his wound with the towels,

“For fucks sake Harry!” I yelled, "Why didn’t you go back to the Crimson Caravan and get patched up there?”

Harry began to stand up. He was still in a bit of pain, and it showed, but I think he was just being a bit melodramatic. “And show up to work having been shot? People will be asking me questions!”

“That’s true. Anyways, have you ever managed a motel before?”

New Endeavors [Ch.3]

Chapter 2

###March 22, 2290.

What Harry told me yesterday had me a little bit paranoid. All afternoon I waited outside of my room, revolver holstered, just itching to shoot at any suspicious looking girl that wandered near my motel. As far as my expectations go, I was expecting some well-dressed mercenary camping out at one of the derelict buildings eyeing out my motel. In reality, all I got was more junkies looking for a fix, passerbys, and squatters, lots of squatters. The squatters used to hang around Freeside, but after the NCR and The Kings made some sort of truce, they started taking residence in the ruins all across Outer Vegas instead. How Freeside is still independent from NCR rule is baffling, but I shouldn’t be surprised about the stubbornness of The King himself. It didn’t help that the NCR also forced out the Followers Of The Apocalypse from Outer Vegas entirely. If they were still around, they probably would have built some refugee camp for them.

When the moon rose to the sky, I went back inside my office, where I was greeted by Winston sharpening his knife.

“You really expect your merchant buddy to come, boss? Unbelievable.” Asked Winston.

“He has to,” I responded. “He’s too dependent on his Jet to expose his involvement with me to the Crimson Caravan. If he does, then he’ll end up like the squatters out there, jobless, and probably resorting to murder to survive.”

“You resorted to murder to survive at first and look at where you are now.”

“You did too and you still were by the time I picked you up from that alley in Freeside.”

“Yeah, because I am so grateful for having to run into you.” Scoffed Winston.

“Mock me all you want Winston, but you were never going to make it far mugging tourists in Freeside with your four man posse.”

“It wasn’t my posse to begin with though, boss. It was Killjoy’s. The similarities between you and him? You’re both assholes. The differences? He’s dead and you’re not. Plus you pay me a lot more.”

“A hundred caps is most definitely more than 10 meager caps, Winston.”

“Yeah, I know. Anyways boss, when you get the chance you should tell me about your days as a raider, I figured you would have some pretty interesting sto-”

Winston was interrupted by someone knocking at the door. It had to be Harry and whoever he brought with him.

“It’s him,” I glanced at the door. “You remember the plan, right?”

“Yeah, yeah, wait for your signal, take him to the room next door, and kill him after.” Winston rolled his eyes.

“Alright, let’s get this over with.”

Winston stood on the side, continuing to sharpen his knife, and I proceeded to open the door for our visitors.

“Hey, hey!” Rejoiced Harry. “So uhh… Johnny, this is my friend Alan, he owns the motel here! Alan, this is my colleague, Johnny, he’s from The Hub.”

“Pleasure to meet you.” Said Johnny.

“Likewise.” I responded and shook his hand. Johnny looked like he was in his mid-twenties. The guy was clean shaven, and for the most part he really was new to the Vegas area. I had a little pity for him, knowing what his fate was going to be, but it was all for a good cause though. My cause.

“So Alan, my friend is new in town and he’s looking for some….action,” Harry coughed. “I was hoping there was an available room in the motel so that he could have his….private time.”

I smiled. “Of course we have an available room! My….assistant Winston will direct him there. Winston, would you mind taking our guest to the room next door?”

Winston grunted, and proceeded to escort Johnny to his motel room. Winston didn’t bother to close the door all the way, but I shrugged it off. When I heard the door shut in the room next door, I breathed a sigh of relief.

“Thank god that’s over with, right? Said Harry.

“Like I told you, this was easy,” I chuckled. “And once he’s dead, you’ll be in the clear. Though, since the Crimson Caravan did find out about the missing supplies, I think it’s best you remain off the radar for the time being.”

“What, like you want me to leave my job or something?”

“The fuck? Hell no. You just can’t bring chems here now until this all blows over. I’m not gonna put you at risk so soon, otherwise the Crimson Caravan will be able to find out you’re stealing the supplies.”

“Oh. Honestly if you were going to figure out a way to get me out of my contract with those caravaneers, I would have been fine with that.”

A minute into our conversation, we were interrupted by a gunshot right outside our room. Before we could even react, the door was quickly kicked open, and I heard another gunshot, and before I knew it, Harry was shot. I stumbled to the ground trying to unholster my revolver, facing my attacker, only to realize that it was someone I know.

“Oh my god, Alan, is that you?” My attacker had her gun aimed at me, with a shocked look on her face.”

“Holy shit,” I started to get up. “Carol, is that you?”

“Oh my god! Wait a minute, is this all of this your doing?”

“What do you think?”

Carol squealed. “I’m guessing the guy that’s lying down on the floor and the one that I shot outside are with you too, huh?”

“Did he have a knife?” I asked.

“Yeah, he was carrying a knife, it was soaked with blood too.”

Carol is Arnold’s wife. The two met shortly after I parted ways with him, but her presence answers the question on who the Crimson Caravan hired, but the bigger question is when did she start doing these kinds of jobs? She's a prospector for fuck's sake!

New Endeavors [Ch.2]

Chapter 1

###March 21, 2290.

“I don’t think you’re taking this seriously Alan. Someone is snooping around, and it's going to be a matter of time before somebody puts two and two together, and traces it back to me.”

“Harry, listen to me. To the untrained eye, this is just a barebones motel managed by yours truly. There is nothing to worry about, I have it all under control.”

Harry is a local merchant for the Crimson Caravan who just happens to have an addiction for Jet. He sells at the local market in the Crimson Caravan’s New Vegas branch, and is my sole chem supplier at the moment. One day, after recovering from one of his jet-fueled sessions, I offered him a spot in my little enterprise, in return for supplying me with some of the chems that the Caravans bring into the area. He was hesitant at first, but he eventually caved in. The desperate ones usually do. Early in the morning, Harry barged into my office at the El Rey Motel to tell me that someone has been eyeing out my motel, as if they were looking for something or someone. The fact that he decided to visited me in the morning is highly unusual, seeing as he normally visits the motel at night so he can get all high on Jet.

“Alan. We’re not living in a wild wasteland anymore. This is New Vegas, the Sixth State of the New California Republic. The only thing saving you is those god damn Fiends in Vault 3! And they are long overdue for a purge!”

Harry was right about one thing, this is no longer a free wasteland as it once was prior to the Second Battle Of Hoover Dam. But even after New Vegas was incorporated into the New California Republic, keeping order in the Mojave proved to be more difficult than beating back Caesar’s Legion. The Fiends still have some presence in the Outer Vegas. Even before Hoover Dam, nobody bothered to take up the bounties that the NCR had on three Fiend’s leaders: Violet, Cook-Cook, Driver Nephi, and Motor-Runner, who is able to put a leash on them all to begin with. Not even their prized Courier couldn’t be bothered to do the damn bounties. As a result, the Fiends staged an attack on Camp McCarran while the Legion was assaulting Hoover Dam. The NCR was able to repulse the Fiends but from what I heard it took a lot of dead NCR troopers, setting back the NCR’s manpower to maintain order in the region. The Fiends retained some control of Outer Vegas for a time before they made the decision to withdraw back into the confines of Vault 3, but from time to time you would see some Fiends in the area attacking travelers, caravans, and whoever just happened to be in their way. I take partial credit for these attacks by the way, seeing as my associate Winston makes the trek to Vault 3 to sell some of my chems to those junkies, and I make a huge profit off of those fucking Fiends.

There were also the resources that were spent trying to kick out the Great Khans out of Red Rock Canyon, and then there was this group of Powder Gangers based in Vault 19 who were harassing caravans passing the I-15. Whoever was running the show there knows exactly what the hell they’re doing, otherwise the NCR would have killed them all by now. And that’s not taking into account the problems they have with the Brotherhood Of Steel back home and the latest expansion project that the NCR is currently undertaking in Legion territory. In all those years following Hoover Dam, they were basically forced to take a defensive stance in their precious new state, letting some of those gangs roam around with what little autonomy they had left over. Thanks to them, they allowed me to operate with some capacity.

“I have a friend in the brass who’s stationed at Camp McCarran,” explained Harry, “she said that they’re finally mounting some of the troopers for a frontal assault on Vault 3.”

I leaned back on my chair, uncaring. “Yep, you know it’s the NCR when it involves sending young boys to their deaths. Why not just let them starve to death in the confines of the Vault?”

“I promised her that I wouldn’t mention this, but the public’s faith in the NCR to protect the Mojave is starting to tank, and its having a subsequent effect on the amount of tourists and NCR citizens that travel to New Vegas. This attack is basically one big publicity stunt to boost morale.”

“And only now they decide to do something about the Fiends? When the Monorail blew up the NCR got right to work on fixing it, but a bunch of junkies who go around killing people for shits and giggles? I guess that’s a problem that can wait for another nine years right?”

“The Fiends were battered down after Hoover Dam, you know this.”

“I do know! But the NCR made the mistake of licking their wounds for far too long and remained complacent. That’s why they’re still there in their fucking Vault planning for their next psychotic killing spree! That goes for those Powder Gangers too! But that’s besides the point. Anyways, who did you say was snooping around the motel?”

“Some broad. Never saw her in any day of my life. What I do know is that the Crimson Caravan hired her.”

“The Crimson Caravan hired her?”

“Yeah, they did.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Do you know who she is?”

Harry shrugged. “I don’t recognize her. All I know is that our manager checked the supply logs recently and saw some anomalies with the supplies, well, the chems that I've been bringing here. She deduced that somebody has been stealing from the caravan shipments so she hired some third party investigator to find out who it is. I think it's going to be a matter of time before she finds out it's me!

“Okay, just calm down. So all we need to do is lure this investigator off the trail. Have someone else take the fall to avoid suspicion towards you, and we all live happily ever after.”

“You make it sound so easy.”

“That’s because it is easy. You just need to have faith in yourself, and the drive to do it. So come back tomorrow evening with another caravan employee, someone that’s preferably gullible, and bring them here. Now get the fuck out of my office.”

New Endeavors [Ch.1]

###March 20, 2090.

My new chapter in life began after I splinted off from my raiders in crime, Arnold and Jacob. I picked up this gig being a drug runner for the Great Khans thanks to an acquaintance of mine who was a member of the gang. Five years later, the New California Republic drove off the Great Khans despite the former's promises of amnesty, so I was back to square one. I spent the other five years living a quiet life in some shack at Westside. In those later years, a void began to form in my life. A void that I haven’t felt since before I joined up with the Skullfucker’s gang. For so long, my survival has been credited to preying upon others. Truth be told, I even considered getting back into the old business of killing, but I realized that those days were long behind me, and it was about time that others do the dirty work for me. So I figured it was time to carve my own piece in the Mojave. So I figured it was time to jumpstart my own chem trade and fill the void left in its place by the departure of the Great Khans.

My stockpile of chems was small at first, as Jacob, former chem junkie turned bounty hunter, never bothered to throw out his chem stash, so he gave it to me instead. This guy mostly juiced himself up on Psycho, and had a couple pieces of Psycho but also had some Jet, Hydra and other chems as well. Back when he was all drugged up, Jacob was nothing more than a brute, and I know for a fact that he never was able to acquire that much chems on his own. I always theorized that he got his supply from the Great Khans, but Jacob never opened up to me about it. Even now when he got clean, his lips still remained sealed on the matter. His stockpile wasn’t enough to make any kind of profit, so I hired scavengers to bring to me the various drug caches that the Khans had scattered across the Mojave. I had to pay those scavengers upfront from my own pockets, but I consider it a worthwhile investment. I spent all of last year doing this stockpiling my chems at some deserted shack near the 188 Trading Post. An unfortunate encounter with some Fiends set me back, but I was able to bounce back, and continue my new endeavor.

Initially, I sold to the local addicts at the El Rey Motel, where I even claimed the motel as my own. One of those addicts must have told some travelers, and those travelers must have told some New California soldier boys, because some of them would occasionally drop by as well. From there, my little operation started to get off the ground. I offered up the motel’s rooms as a junkie den, free of charge, save for one of the rooms which would act as my personal office. To my surprise, the motel started getting traffic and the chems started flowing.

It’s a small operation now, but a growing one. In fact, I have bigger plans for the future, but until then, this motel is my livelihood, and I will do everything in my power to defend this motel. I even persuaded one of those Freeside thugs to help me facilitate my little operation, under the promises of a life of grandeur in New Vegas after years of working by my side. That thug’s name is Winston, and right now he is wasting my time about some heckler waiting outside my office.

“I don’t go out often as much, as you can tell. These days, I loathe having to go outside and set foot in the Mojave, so you have about one minute to justify why in the fuck should I go outside and have to deal with this lunatic myself?” I snapped at Winston, wondering what kind of idiot has the gall to confront me personally.

Winston just stood there, unfazed. “He said he knows you boss.”

“He knows me? Did you even tell him to talk to me inside? At the very least, did you even get his name?”

“I tried boss, but he didn’t budge. All he said is that he wanted to see you now.”

“Now? Fine. Just this once. But if he has nothing useful to say, then you’ll be seeing the devil very soon.”

I stormed out of my office on the top floor of the motel to see some guy in a grey suit, arms crossed, and with a face so red he may as well have been sunburnt.

“Who the fuck are you?” I winced.

“Where’s my son? The man exclaimed.

“Your son? What the hell are you talking about?”

“My son! I know he came here the other night! Where is he?”

“Alright, just calm your noggin there. If your son came here, then he most certainly did so out of his own free will. I have zero involvement in this. That said, if you want to keep lashing out at me, I will shoot you right now, and your son will have one less father figure to worry about.”

The threat was uncalled for, I’ll admit, but it seemed to calm him, if not scare him into keeping his tongue shut. Once that was taken care of, the two of us searched the other rooms for the man’s son. We eventually found him in room 104, with some hooker. The son seemed pretty out of it, and so was the hooker, who to my surprise was not harmed at all. What he did was none of my concern however; all that mattered was that I got his caps. The father's silence had to be bought though, but it was far from a setback.

Sometimes I do question whether I'll ever make it far in life, but I believe in time, I will be the one standing on top of the food chain, looking down on the world as it once looked down upon me.

I need some help finding a certain story

I'm not entirely sure, but the title was either "My Sunshine' or 'You Are My Sunshine.' I read it a couple years ago and it disappeared off the fanfic sites I browsed. It was was, I think, an incredibly realistic take on the Fallout universe and it was intensely emotional too. It was Nora x Cait and was kind of NSFW at times. I would very much like to read it again, and if someone could direct me towards a site that has it or the author, I would greatly appreciate it.

The Baltimore Bypass (Part 10B)

Part 10 - https://www.reddit.com/r/TheFalloutDiaries/comments/cqtb8j/the_baltimore_bypass_part_10/

1920hrs, March 23 2291

The dropsite was a serious walk out to Rockdale Park Motel near Milford Mills. Back when the roads were in working order it might have taken a few hours to hoof it, but infrastructure issues really do slow you down and i didn't arrive until the late afternoon. There wasn’t all that much interesting on the way, a few Tinmen patrols. I started to ease up once I got a decent way along and realised that the Cronus graffiti had died away. They seem to be more active in the city centre. When you get out as far as Milford Mills it's much quieter, not really raiders as small groups of chemheads who hook up to get a fix and then drift off into the wastes. Very rarely shoot at you unannounced and almost never hit shit even if they do.

Rockdale Park Motel is a low rise spread of apartments neighbouring pre-war Rockdale Municipal Park. They were apartments before the war but apparently had been abandoned due to all the financial troubles folks were having in those days. Kinda ironic, but the real glory days of the Motel was only 30-40 years ago. A ghoul fella called Marty Steffords had got the place fixed up and started out a low cost, no frills casino, bar and motel style operation for caravaneers. Actually got pretty famous, was seen as one of the few places different raider gangs could meet without completely unreasonable bloodshed. My old man told me Marty even set up the first ever post-war professional Baseball league in America. Well. Until folks woke up on the opening day of the season and found out Marty had run out with all the caps that had been put up as prize money and everyone's betting stakes overnight. Then nobody ever heard from Marty Steffords again and the Rockdale Park Motel got abandoned all over again. The baseball diamond is still marked out in the Municipal park. Some of the apartments are covered with graffiti showing people's unhappiness with Marty.

The motel apartments are pokey chalets, little more than a double bed, kichenette and bathroom. Chalets were stacked up two high in a large horse shoe. Intermittently around the horse shoe, there were staircases leading to the upper level but half of these had rotted and collapsed. All paintwork had bleached down to a dull variation of a milky beige due to the centuries of exposure and radiation burn, large patches of which had long since flaked away from the ancient brickwalls. The main road leading into Rockdale Park Motel dropped steeply down a hill. I hunkered up behind the skeleton of a Pick-R-Up on the crest and scouted the Motel out through my binos. From about 500 yards plus the elevation, i had a good view over the central courtyard and all three interior sides of the horseshoe building, allowing me a view of every apartment door. Set down by a large welcome sign, daubed with a particularly virulent anti-ghoul slur, a small office. Presumably the manager's hut from where Marty Steffords had plotted the Great Baseball Robbery back in the 60s. I watched the Motel through my lenses for almost an hour, until the i was satisfied that there was nobody living down there and the natural light began to fade enough for me to consider seeking shelter. I noticed a few critters, Radroachs and Radrats scurrying around the central space. With my hunting rifle held ready, i followed the road down towards Rockdale Park Motel...

Found a note from Dropstick this morning. Pinned to my holdall, directly under the bed I’d been sleeping in. I do remember hearing someone near me, but I thought it was a dream and you get used to people shuffling around in these communal flop-halls. Maybe it was Dropstick. Or he has agents working here? Or following me? Maybe it was Eliza. Slightly unnerving to know that someone got that close to me in my sleep. I thought the Cathedral would be a safe place but who knows what someone with…darker intent…could have done to me. Today a pinned note, tomorrow a knife against my throat. Still, survived this time so…lesson learned. One eye open from now on. Dropstick’s note wasn’t actually that interesting. Slightly better than some of the old jobs he had me running. Find a supply cache hidden way at a drop-site and then take it a secondary site so it could be recovered, presumably by one of his “operatives” who were running slaves out of the city. A nice bundle of caps promised on delivery.

There was no manifest or description of exactly what the cache would be, but I figured it couldn’t be too large if it was for little ol’ me to shift it. It was still dark when I’d got myself together and left The Cathedral. I swung by the kitchen and loaded up on a hearty breakfast and took what I could for the road. I’d moved early so I got the best pickings and there were hardly any other drifters in the mess area.

It must have been just before 0600 when I went to leave. No big fanfare, there’s always bods drifting in and out. One thing was odd though. As I was making my way down the corridor, I’d glanced into this little alcove. Cathedral’s full of them, all sorts of tucked away little nooks and crannies and sometimes they lead down little cut-throughs and short cuts to other parts of the church. Anyway, I glance down this one particular little corridor and although it was pretty dim and still dark as the sun hadn’t risen, I definitely saw someone down there. Looked like Eliza. Hunched over and facing away from me but I was certain that Eliza or…whoever it was, was talking to another person in hushed tones. I couldn’t see the other person. The figure I was looking at looked back at me and then I was sure it was Eliza, 100%. Don’t know if she recognised me but she quickly turned away and hurried off into the gloom, presumably with her buddy.

It seemed a bit odd, but I guessed any removed observer might have thought my conversation with her yesterday was a bit conspiratorial. I guess there’s all sorts of deals and plans being struck round here. I guess it’s just part of her missionary business. I shrugged my pack and kept moving...

Rare's New Vegas Diary Entry 7

Previous Entry

Night, Day 5

For some reason, I decided to pull an all nighter on my way back to Primm. God knows why. I’m sleepy as fuck now. I’ve always liked “sleepy” more than “tired”. I don’t know why. It just conveys the energy (or lack thereof) better I guess. Anyways, on the way to Primm, I passed by a Jackal hideout. I got noticed by the people outside and was attacked. I managed to kill them without much trouble. I don’t particularly like killing people, but unfortunately it comes with the job.

While outside, I saw a bunch of black and white painted cars. I think I heard somewhere that these used to be what we known as “police”. They were the lawmakers of before the war. Sorta like what I’m bringing to bring back to Primm. Well, hopefully. In one of these cars was a long dead skeleton and a briefcase full of jet and money. I wonder what his story was before the war. Was he a corrupt police person and was hoarding jet and prewar money, or was he just bringing something he had confiscated back to the office? Or do I have it completely wrong and this skeleton is from after the bombs? The uncertainty of all of it left me staring at if for an unusually long time. Most of the time I don’t really notice this kind of thing. Maybe I’ll make more of an attempt to keep an eye out. At the very least it can help me find stuff.

It was early morning when I arrived at Primm. I talked to Lieutenant Hayes and told him about the new troops. We talked more and agreed that Primm was now an NCR territory, which meant both protection and taxes. The troops finally moved into Primm and began to let people know it was safe to come out. The relieved citizens filed out of the Vikki and Vance, and the ncr troopers started to clean up the bodies. I had finally found a sheriff for Primm and brought the law back. I wandered around for a while talking to people and asking how they were and their thoughts on the new order I had brought. People generally seemed to be glad that there was law in Primm, but not particularly happy about the taxes. Former “Deputy” Beagle wasn’t too happy about it, but whatever.

By the late afternoon, Nash had gotten his store set back up so I walked in and did some business. I noticed a strange metal sphere with shit sticking all out of it on the end of his table and asked about it. Said it was a robot dropped off by some courier but didn’t work no more. I asked if I could try and repair it. He said I could, and if I did I could keep it. If not he’d just haul it over to Novac at some point to scrap it. I went over and examined it. It was pretty weathered but didn’t seem to have much serious damage. Trying to remember my scientific knowledge, I examined the electronics. It seemed to mostly be in order. After pulling out an old science magazine to study, I was able to to figure out how to bypass some of the non working systems. This made the actual repair part a lot easier, and just within my own abilities. A while later and I was finished.

It woke up. I had two options to input, “Log Off” or “Companion Protocol:Begin”. I chose the latter. It beeped excitedy and began to follow me around. I guess it’s a travel companion now. It seems to be named ED-E. Isn’t much for talking, but it’s fun to have around anyways. Plus it seems to have tools I can use to make stuff on the go, so that’s useful. I’ll have to mess around with it more to figure it out but I’m sure it’ll be useful!

Right now I’m laying down on a mattress in the ncr encampment, where I’m gonna sleep for the night. When I wake up, it’s off to Nipton. See you then, Diary thing!

Rare's New Vegas Diary (Parts 1-6)

Note: I originally posted all these as separate posts back on /r/fnv and they got up with no trouble. When I recently went as posted the 7th part, it got taken down because appearently the mods don't like this kinda content anymore. Anyways to not abruptly start from part seven of a series, here are the first 6 parts of my New Vegas diary! Part 7 is already written, but I don't want to spam the subreddit so I'll post it tomorrow instead, and entry 8 (which is a big one) will be posted as soon as it's finished. I hope you enjoy and if you have any feedback please leave a comment!

Entry 1:

Day 1, Afternoon:

I found out that this pipboy allows me to take notes, and I’ve always wanted to keep some kind of journal, so I guess I’m doing this now. I guess I better back up. I got this pipboy from a friendly doctor who patched me up after I... well I guess I gotta go back a little bit further. My name is Rare, I’m a courier for Mojave express. I’m relatively good natured, and would call myself skilled but not particularly experienced. I enjoy exploring the wild wasteland and scavenging old stuff to try and repair it into something workable using my knowledge of science. I guess I’m pretty lucky to have found a job that fits me so well. I’m not particularly charismatic but I can pull together a decent speech if I need to. Failing that, I can always fall back on energy weapons. I’m somewhat intelligent, have about average strength, decently perceptive, somewhat agile but get tired pretty easily.

I’ve been a courier for a few years, but mainly did jobs to the West and back, and as a result never really went near New Vegas. Apparently this was the right call because I just got my first job to deliver something to it (a poker chip made of platinum, fuck if I know what that’s all about) and first thing I know I get ambushed and shot in the head by some city boy. Unfortunately I’m fuzzy about the details, probably something to do with being shot in the head, but I do remember being pulled out of my grave by some weird robot thing. Doc Michael says that’s Victor, and he’s sorta an outsider to this here town of Goodsprings. Oh yeah, Doc Michael is the doctor who helped me out, and Goodsprings is the town I “died” in.

You know, even if I didn’t really die and come back to life, I still do feel pretty different from before. It’s as if now is the first time I’ve ever really been in control of my life, and everything before that was just some kinda fuzzy dream. Maybe that’s brain damage. Regardless, I guess that’s why I’m starting this diary. It feels as if I’ve started a new life. Right now I’m sitting on the couch of Doc Michael’s house, just trying to collect my thoughts and manage my bag. I guess at this point I’m just procrastinating going outside to truly begin my life again. I’ve even repaired an old machine gun and made some stimpacks to prevent having to actually begin. I guess I’m just anxious. But no more. I’m about to go out there, see where the wasteland and my life takes me, and I suppose this diary is gonna let me record it all. I’ll see you next time, it’s time for me to enter the wasteland.

Entry 2:

Day 1, Night:

Well, I guess saying that I was “entering the wasteland” was a little overdramatic. The reality was closer to entering a town full of friendly people happy to help me. Doc Michael suggested that I talk to Sunny Smiles at the Saloon to help get me back on my feet and rebuild my survival skills. First things first I wanted to talk to Victor, the mysterious robot who plucked me out of my grave, to see if he had any clues as to the identity of my assailants. As luck would have it, he was literally the first thing I saw as I stepped outside of Doc Michael’s house, as he was walking (rolling? He’s supported by a single wheel and uses it to move, but rolling just doesn’t sound right) on the road that was right in front of me. I ran up to him and got his attention and started asking what had happened. According to him, he noticed my three attackers up near the graveyard and laid low until they left, then he rushed over to pull me out of my grave. After hearing this and asking him a bit about his own background (apparently he’s a securitron, never saw one before) I decided to walk over to the graveyard and see for myself.

Have you ever looked at your own grave? That’s some surreal shit. I found myself face to face with mine at the Goodsprings cemetery. They seemingly hadn’t cared enough to even fill it, the hole was just there next to a small pile of dirt. There were a few distinctive cigarette butts there. I picked one up and remembered seeing that git who shot me smoking one and saying that line which you know he had been rehearsing beforehand: “The game was rigged from the start.” Luckily, I’ll have plenty of time thinking of a comeback while I track down that motherfucker. What does he need that platinum chip for anyways? Hell, what does anyone need a platinum chip for?! Who pays for this shit?

These questions and more were rattling through my skull as I walked down to the Goodsprings Saloon. At the door, I saw an old looking fella and called out to him. Turns out his name is Easy Pete, and we had an interesting talk about the NCR and the Legion. I knew about them, but the memories seem kinda fuzzy. I guess that’s what getting shot in the head does to you. After getting back up to speed with him, I now remember my previous opinions about the NCR and the Legion: the NCR is imperialistic, which isn’t good, but also a democracy, which is good. The Legion are equally imperialistic assholes, but instead of bringing democracy to the lands they conquer, they bring slavery. You could say I’m not a fan. Although I’m not sure about the NCR coming into the Mojave, it’s sure as fuck better than the Legion, and I dearly hope that the inevitable second battle for Hoover Dam goes in favor of the NCR.

Anyways, I entered the Saloon and immediately found myself face to face with a dog and its owner, a cute girl who introduced herself as Sunny Smiles. She was incredibly nice, and true to Doc Michael’s word, she offered to help me with some wasteland survival practice. Now usually I wouldn’t have gone for something like this, but I had only yesterday had my life essentially ended, so I thought it couldn’t hurt. Plus I wanted to spend a little more time with her too. She and her dog took me out back and gave me a rifle and helped me practice aiming by shooting sarsaparilla bottles. Oh yeah, now is as good a time as any to mention that I have a habit of picking up just about everything I find, empty bottles included. I usually keep the empty bottles to fill up with water, and try to breakdown the other junk to repair my weapons and such. Whatever I can’t make use of I sell to whatever vendors I come across. Helps me make a bit extra caps as I’m walking across the wasteland to deliver some package.

Back to the present, the target practice wrapped up and Sunny Smiles asked me if I wanted to help her go clear out some geckos from the spring down south of town in exchange for some caps. I agreed and we went headed south to do the job. After it was done, I filled up some of my empty bottles in the spring and Sunny Smiles offered to teach me how to make some things at the campfire. After gathering up the necessary materials, we sat down and made healing powder, and then talked for a little bit. She told me the best route to Primm (which is seemingly where the people who shot me went) but added that before I left town, I should talk to Trudy, the owner of the Saloon. When our conversation wrapped up, she and her dog headed back up to town, while I stayed back to sit down at the fire and reflect on the day.

After a while, I was dragged out of my daydreaming by a man’s voice. I turned around to find that standing behind me was a man who was looking directly at me. I asked him to repeat what he had just said to me and he did. “My daughter is trapped up on the ridge with geckos, you gotta help her.” I asked him how to get there. He told me and I set off. Now, I had been under the impression that it would be a relatively easy time. I had been killing Geckos just earlier that day and had ran into no trouble. Unfortunately, I failed to take into account that that I not only had help then, but also was only dealing with 3 geckos at a time. Up on the ridge there were almost a dozen, and it was brutal. They managed to do some serious damage to me that I had to heal with some stimpacks. I only managed to beat them all by climbing onto a hill they couldn’t get up and picking them off one by one. Why they couldn’t climb up despite them being much more accustomed to this environment than me, I’ll never know, but it allowed me to survive so I ain’t complaining.

After my heart rate calmed down, I remembered why I was there. For that guy’s daughter. I looked around, but didn’t see any sign of her. It was at that point that I started to become suspicious. I was too trusting of that guy. I didn’t even ask his name before helping him, and here I was, almost dying to save some girl that might not exist. I walked further up the hill and found a strange scene. A sniper post was set out with a refrigerator there and a chair. Clearly someone was intending to be here for a while. Finally I saw her. An adult woman was on the ground next to the sniper post. I was certain that this girl wasn’t that man’s daughter, she was far too old to be. She didn’t have any visible wounds, so I had to check her pulse before I felt comfortable taking her stuff.

My gun was ready as I walked back down the path to where that man was waiting for me. I can’t believe I trusted him so easily. When he saw me, he thanked me for clearing out the geckos so he could get to that stash up there. I guess he had known about the weird sniper post. He started pulling out his gun to shoot me but by then it was too late. I had already blasted him. The fight was over quick. Too quick. I eliminated a man’s life in that moment and it was only just a moment. I can’t help but keep wondering to myself if I would have done that before. Before today. Before my “rebirth”. I’d killed people before in self defense, and this was certainly self defense, but that’s not what I’m uncomfortable with. Rather, the ease with which it was done.

Needless to say, I felt like shit as I walked back into town. The sun was beginning to set when I saw the Saloon. I remembered that I was supposed to meet Trudy. Sunny Smiles had described her as “the town mom”. I stood outside the Saloon, considering entering it, but I decided against it. I didn’t deserve it, not tonight. Since it was now night and I was feeling emotionally and physically exhausted, I needed a place to sleep. I could have probably gone back to Doc Michael’s for the night, but I wanted somewhere where I didn’t have to talk to anyone. I set my sights on the gas station. Evidently this was the wrong choice because the moment I stepped in I had a man and a gun facing me.

I panicked and blurted out “I’m just looking around!” and surprisingly, this did the trick. He put down his gun and explained that he was just jumpy because he was currently in hiding from the powder gangers, a local gang. He was from the Crimson Caravan Trading Company, and his caravan was attacked by them. I told him about my situation too and he sympathized, at least enough to let me sleep on the mattress in the gas station. I thanked him and stumbled over to the mattress, which is where I now lie, typing this all out. Man, what a fucking day. And to think it’s only day one of my “new life”.

Entry 3:

Day 2, Noon:

I’m writing this as I eat lunch. I just realized that I basically hadn’t eaten anything (aside from the healing powder Sunny Smiles helped me make last night) since walking out of Doc Michael’s house last morning. At the moment I’m sitting in the Saloon eating, along with most of the town, on account of what just went down. To be specific, what just went down was a gunfight.

I ought to back up to this morning to give some context for what I just wrote. After waking up, I said goodbye to Ringo, who had stayed up all night watching the door, expecting it to break down at any moment with the people coming after him. Specifically, the people who were coming after him were a gang called the powder gangers. They’re former NCR prisoners who were made to do work with dynamite and then used said dynamite to break out and start terrorizing the area. Now, I’m a big fan of what the NCR stands for, but the practice of using prisoners for forced manual labor without pay is disgusting. You know what, I’ll call it what it is: it’s slavery. I hate slavery in all forms, and this needs to stop.

I could go on for hours about this, but frankly it’s not relevant right now. What is relevant is that these people who were enslaved broke free, which is good, but then began to terrorize the local communities, which is not good. Anyways these are the people that were after Ringo. He and I talked a bit more in the morning and I was considering offering to help him, but I decided that I wanted to think it over first. I walked out of the gas station and over and into the general store, where I met Chet, the shop’s owner. I traded some of my excess stuff for some more useful supplies and set on my way over to the Saloon.

As soon as I walked through the door, I heard trouble. A man I hadn’t seen before was yelling at a woman whom I assumed was Trudy. He was saying that the town better hand over Ringo or pay the price. The woman told him to leave and he started walking out the door, where I was. I stopped him and asked him who he was. Said his name was Joe Cobb. He confirmed my suspicions that he was a member of the powder gangers. I quietly moved my hand behind me, grasping at my energy pistol. I asked him what he intended to do with the town should they hand over Ringo. He said that they might massacre the town just for the fun. That was all I needed to hear. I pulled out my energy pistol and shot him right there, and then twice more to make sure that he was dead.

Trudy ran over and said that I may have just brought a whole heap of trouble down on the town. I told her it didn’t matter, because I was going to help Ringo take care of the powder gangers, and I ran out to go to Ringo. After explaining the situation, he recommended that I ask Sunny Smiles for help. I went and did that, and she agreed to help surprisingly easily. She told me to ask Doc Michael, Trudy, Chet and Easy Pete for medical aid, rallying the other citizens to help, supplies, and dynamite respectively. I was able to convince all but Easy Pete. I told Ringo and we all started getting set up.

Finally, they showed up. Six of them, presumably to check after Joe Cobb hadn’t come back. If we beat six of them then they most likely would learn not to bother the town and they would be free of them forever. The gunfight went far too fast and there was far too much for me to really understand what was going on, but I can tell you this much: we beat all six of them and didn’t suffer a single casualty.

And that’s pretty much it. Most of the town is in the Saloon now talking about what just went down, and I’m right there with them. In the commotion of the impromptu celebrations, I found a moment to talk to Trudy and asked her if she knew anyone about the people who shot me. She said that they came in through the Saloon and were apparently rude and disruptive, and went to the east to find a good route to get back to New Vegas. They also knocked over her radio, breaking it. I asked her if I could see it, and she showed me to it. After a few minutes I figured out the problem and got it working again. She thanked me with a few caps.

Anyways, that’s pretty much it for this day. So far. I’m just sitting eating some food listening to the radio while everyone celebrates the defeat of the powder gangers. I’m certainly liking the radio. I wonder if I can listen to it on this pipboy? I’ve yet to figure this thing out fully, so it’s possible. Anyways, that’s it for now, see you next time, whoever ends up reading this (probably just me because I ain’t giving up this pipboy easily).

Entry 4:

Day 2, Night: After saying my goodbyes to the good people of Goodsprings, I set out south to Primm in order to inquire with the Mojave Express company about my assignment. On the way out I took a look through the corpses of the powder gangers and found an interesting note on Joe Cobb. According to it, the NCR was planning to attack the powder gangers. Maybe the reason that they attacked the crimson caravan was because they needed supplies to prepare for that. Regardless, I decided to keep the note to give it to the next NCR officer I saw.

I set off for real, and the trip was relatively uneventful. On the way there I checked out the strange cross shaped memorial, and an abandoned shack nearby to it. There isn’t much to say about the rest of the trip. Actually, there is one thing. On the way there I discovered how to work the pipboy’s radio. I don’t think it can broadcast anything but it sure can receive signals. I spent the rest of the trek listening to the sweet sounds of Radio New Vegas, and it’s host, Mr. New Vegas. It was dark by the time I got to my destination.

The first thing I saw of Primm was the massive roller coaster track that marks the town. The second thing I noticed was the NCR encampment blocking the entrance to Primm. As I got closer, I was approached by an NCR solider who told me I wouldn’t be allowed in there. I told him that I had business with a superior officer. Surprisingly, that’s all I needed to say to get in. He told me to talk to Lieutenant Hayes in the nearby tent. I walked over to said tent questioning the wisdom of literally just letting someone in like that, but I certainly didn’t mind my luck.

I walked in and introduced myself to Hayes and told him about the note I had found. He told me that it wasn’t of use to him but that I should meet up with the officer who was organizing the attack. He was near the powder gangers stronghold, a location which I marked on my map. I asked Hayes what the deal with Primm was. Apparently it had been taken over by a gang and they didn’t feel like they had the resources to go in and fix the problem. That’s the other big problem with the NCR: they simply don’t have the resources to go around, and this results in areas that aren’t well taken care of.

The NCR here did actually seem well equipped enough to take care of the gang, but I was unable to convince them of this fact. I sighed and asked if it were alright if I went in there myself and they let me. They let me know that the population of the town was holed up in the Vikki and Vance casino. I walked into Primm sneaking and with my scoped varmint rifle out and loaded. By quietly picking off people and choosing a strategic route, I was able to get over to the casino without much trouble. I walked in.

I found Nash, my employer. I let him know about the situation, and in the ensuing conversation, learned several very interesting things: 1) This delivery was one of 6, each delivering an item equally useless as a platinum chip. 2) all the other packages were delivered without trouble. 3) A “cowboy robot” was the one who hired all 6 couriers. I highly suspect that this is Victor. 4) The courier who was originally supposed to deliver the chip saw my name on the list for the next in line should he refuse the job and he inquired more about me. He then gave up the job and apparently left for the Divide, a place I used to deliver to and from a lot back in the day. 5) The people who shot me passed through here. 6) The sherif of Primm kept a close eye on them and presumably knows something. 7) Said sherif was kidnapped and is being held in the other casino in town by the Powder Gangers.

And that’s pretty much it. Right now I’m sitting in the Vikki and Vance casino with everyone else in town, and it seems like if I want answers, I have to go in there and rescue that sheriff myself. I guess if you want something done in this world, you gotta do it yourself, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do. See you next time!

Entry 5:

Night, Day 4:

It’s been a busy few days for me. Until right now, there hadn’t been any time for writing this journal. When I last left off, I was sitting on my ass in the Vikki and Vance casino preparing to rescue Deputy Beagle. I wasn’t really sure what to expect with him, as everyone in the town seemed to be of two minds about him. Nobody seemed to respect him, but they did seem to be fond of him regardless. He was trapped in the Bison and Steve hotel across the street from the Vikki and Vance, but I decided to take a look around the town first. I found the residence of the former sheriff and in it a grisly sight.

Two naked, headless bodies lay on the bed, with blood splattered over pillows and wall. I’m used to seeing dead bodies, but there’s something about seeing the corpses of people in their own home that just gets to me. They were lying in bed too, perhaps they were asleep and blissfully unaware of what was happening. But then the moment that one of them was killed, the other would most likely hear it and wake up. The last thing they would have seen in their life was the one that they loved most in the world, dead and dismembered. I can only hope that they were too tired to process the thought or that death came too swiftly for them to realize the horror of their situation.

That gruesome thought aside, there was a reloading bench in the house, which I made use of to repack some of the ammo I had gathered into forms that were more useful to me. I tried to hurry it up so I didn’t have to spend too much time in the house. It was beginning to smell. When I walked out of the house and into fresh air, I took one last look back at the bodies. Forcing prisoners to do labor was wrong yes, but there was no doubt that the powder gangers were monsters. I wonder, were all of them even imprisoned for violent crimes? Stealing isn’t exactly harmless, but it’s a far cry from the cold blooded murder of a couple laying in their home at night. Did the person who committed this killing start out that way, or did life in the prison make them that way? I’ve explored some old prisons in my day, scavenging for supplies on my way to and from deliveries. From what I can tell, they seem to be just about the only thing that wasn’t changed by the war.

By the time I had arrived at the doors to the hotel where the deputy was, I had devised a pretty basic plan. I had no idea the layout of the building beyond what I could discern from the outside shape of the building, nor how many goons would be guarding him, so I needed something flexible and sneaky. I had decided on taking a stealth boy to make me invisible for a while and sneak around picking them off with my silenced .22 pistol. The plan went excellently. I managed to eliminate every single one of them without taking a hit. I couldn’t believe my luck, but I guess now that maybe it was more that I was invisible. Regardless, I was able to make it to Deputy Beagle without any trouble.

He was sitting down tied up, and when I went to talk to him, I immediately understood why people talked about him like they did. He’s incredibly sleazy, incompetent and narcissistic. But somehow kinda likable at the same time. Like he might even be a liked member of the community if he weren’t supposed to be their deputy. He asked me to untie him, and when I asked him if he had any information about the men who shot me, he just said that he wouldn’t let me know until we were outside. I sighed and I untied him. When I asked if he would help me out with exploring the rest of the building to see if there were any remaining powder gangers, he claimed that he just couldn’t be of any help and ran out of there as fast as he could. Oh well. I explored the rest of the building and found a few more powder gangers and took care of them.

When I finally left and went into the Vikki and Vance, I found the Deputy telling anyone willing to listen about how he had singlehandedly escaped from the hotel and defeated the powder gangers. When he noticed me approaching he panicked and told me not to worry, he was just about to get to the part where I came in and helped out (he then glanced back to the nearby Primm residents who had been skeptically listening to his story and added “not that I needed the help, of course”). I said I didn’t care about his story and that I just wanted to know what he knew about the people who shot me. He seemed relieved and told me that he overheard that they would be going to Novac, traveling through Nipton. I thanked him, then after an awkward moment, asked when he was gonna do his job as sherif and ensure that the town is safe so that people can leave the casino. The pause that followed was longer and somehow even more awkward than the one that had preceded it.

He attempted to explain to me that he wasn’t the sherif and was instead just the deputy, and that there can’t be a deputy without the sherif and therefore he couldn’t do his job as he had the maintain the chain of command. I was about to attempt to explain how chain of command actually worked, when it occurred to me that the town would probably be better with someone else as a sheriff. I asked him where I should look around to find one and he told me to look for someone resourceful like me, but more of a homebody. Given that the entire town was there holed up in the Vikki and Vance, I figured that every “homebody” would be right there and looked around to see if there was anyone who seemed useful.

It was then that I noticed the cowboy hat wearing robot that lived in this establishment and told visitors about it’s history. I went over to examine it and found that I could reprogram it to act as the town’s sherif with relative ease. I wouldn’t even need to get any supplies, everything I needed was right there. But surely there’s a better option than that. A robot certainly wouldn’t be a coward like Beagle, but it wouldn’t have the human element that a law enforcer really needs. It would just see things in black and white. No, this robot wouldn’t do. I walked over to Nash and explained the situation to him and asked what he thought. He told me that he had heard of someone named Meyers was locked up in the prison that all the powder gangers came from who used to be a sheriff. He felt just as skeptical as me to trusting someone from there, but he thought that it was at least worth checking out.

The alternative of course was the NCR. Now, this was already technically the NCR’s area, but as I had been already told from Lieutenant Hayes, they apparently didn’t have the manpower to even go into Primm, let alone lead it. I figured it was still worth talking to Hayes about it though, see what he can manage, especially considering that I already took care of many of the powder gangers in town. The talk about Meyers had reminded me that I had other business up at that prison. I had to go meet up with Sergeant Lee nearby to help him eliminate the powder gangers threat for good. I set out towards the NCRCF listening to the pipboy’s radio on my way to meet him.

When I did, he quickly briefed me on the situation. And when I say quickly, I mean his briefing maybe lasted a few sentences before we had to go start our raid. The fence of the prison blew up and we (there were a number of soldiers there with us) ran in. I realize now that my descriptions of the battles I’m in is usually relatively brief, but frankly, it’s hard to exactly recount this type of thing. When you’re there in the moment and the bullets are flying past your head, you often aren’t even sure what’s going on. All you know in that moment is that you need to shoot the people who are shooting at you. It gets especially hard to follow when there’s so many people involved, as was the case in this instance. I took down some people, yes, but the soldiers there did the bulk of the work. It wasn’t long after the battle started that the bodies finally stopped piling up. The powder gangers were no more.

Sergeant Lee thanked me for my help and radioed back to Lieutenant Hayes letting him know that the mission was a success. At this point I was free to leave, but I thought I’d take this opportunity to take a look around. I overheard from a solider there that there was apparently a breakaway group of powder gangers who had headed up north and still remained. Not my problem. I found the prison warden’s terminal and started reading the logs. He had been very concerned about the prisoners having some kind of uprising. He felt that he didn’t have enough men to keep them under control as it was, and even worse, the NCR siphoning off the men there for defending Hoover Dam. The very last terminal there was a request to an old friend higher up in the NCR, pleading for more men to be stationed at the prison, because he really feared that something was going to happen. In other words, the rise of the powder gangers was predicted by the prison warden here, but he was powerless to prevent it. He ultimately ended up a victim of not only the powder gangers, but the lack of resources of the NCR.

I considered bringing the terminal to the attention of Sergeant Lee, but he was likely already aware of this kind of thing. The NCR never has enough men to do anything proper, and this results in things blowing up in the NCR’s face, and everyone in the NCR knew it, or at least everyone in the military did. I continued looking around and I found someone not in ncr garb sitting down on a chair, drinking. I walked up to him and asked him who he was. He first let me know that he was a prisoner here and didn’t want anything to do with the powder gangers and wasn’t planning on resisting the NCR at all. I asked his name. It was Meyer.

I told him that I had heard that he used to be a sheriff. He confirmed and told me his story. He was the sherif of a town out west, and found that the law moved a bit too slowly for justice to really be enforced. He claimed that sometimes, to keep people safe, you gotta work outside of the law. So he did. For doing that, he got sent to prison, and he didn’t regret that at all, as he had in fact done the crime, and was therefore willing to do the time. I liked his attitude and philosophy, so I told him about the situation down in Primm and asked if he thought he could make it work. He said that he was interested, but unless he was pardoned by the NCR, he couldn’t do it. That made sense to me, but wasn’t something that could be easily arranged, so I told him I’d look into it and set off.

My destination was the NCR camp next to Primm. I wanted to talk to Lieutenant Hayes about the sherif situation in Primm, and to tell him about the prison raid. The trip there was uneventful aside from a few good tracks on the radio. I gotta say, I’m loving this pipboy and all its features. The radio has made the Mojave a lot less lonely. I wouldn’t mind someone to travel with though. But, it’s kinda hard to convince someone else to live this kind of lifestyle, and I’d feel absolutely awful if anything happened to them because of me.

When I got there and spoke to Lieutenant Hayes about the Primm situation, I suggested that it was possible that someone from the NCR’s could take over as sheriff. He told me that they couldn’t spare anyone there. If they had just one extra squad, they would be able to bring the law back to Primm, but as they are now, they can’t. I asked if they could just radio for an extra squad and I was told that it wouldn’t work, but if I really wanted to I could go over to Mojave Outpost myself and see if I could convince them.

I slept for a bit while at the camp, and when I woke up I set off towards Mojave Outpost. It was to the south west, and on the road there I passed by some feral ghouls. I tried to steer clear of them but one of them ended up noticing me and I had to kill him and the others. I always feel bad for ghouls. From what I’ve heard, they’re just regular people who got super irradiated and their skin began to rot and their voices became gravely. They supposedly can’t age though and don’t have to eat (I’ve heard conflicting stories about that, maybe it varies), and there are ghouls who have been alive since before the war, although I’ve never met one that old myself. I wonder what it’s like to experience that. To go from living whatever life was like before the war to... this. These ghouls have seen factions rise and fall, seen people born, live and die, all while they’re trapped in a body that seems to have already decayed. No wonder some of them go feral, and that’s not even to mention the way that many non ghoul people treat them.

Mojave Outpost was visible from far away, thanks for its massive statue of two figures meeting eachother. As I arrived, I talked to the first solider there and asked him about the outpost. He told me that it was mainly just soldiers and caravans stuck here in a bureaucratic gridlock. He didn’t seem to be too positive about the whole place. I asked him where I could find Knight (the man Hayes told me to meet with) and I was told which building he was in. I was also told about a bar in the other building. I walked into the one with Knight in it.

He was standing behind a desk in front of the door. He asked me if I was a citizen or caravan. I answered that I was a courier. I explained the situation to him. He said that they only had the exact amount of troops there required by the NCR higher ups back west. They quite simply couldn’t spare anyone. Everyone who comes through there was just on the way to somewhere else, and if they weren’t they were just being held up there. The situation seemed pretty depressing. But I kept trying to convince him, and somehow, I managed to use my knowledge of economics to convince him that having a more stable control on Primm would be a good idea. He excused himself to talk to some people on the radio for a little bit, and then after a few minutes he turned back to me and said that it was done. An extra squad was heading out to Primm. My job here was done.

I decided not to leave just yet though. I could use a drink, and there was a bar. So that’s where I am now. I’m sitting down at the bar and writing this. I might go talk to that girl sitting over there. I think I overheard the bartender calling her “Cass”. I didn’t mean to go a few days without updating this, but I guess it kinda turned out that way. Next entry will be much quicker, probably when I get back to Primm. Bye!

Entry 6:

Night, Day 4 (Again):

Well, I talked to Cass. Technically, she initiated the conversation. Which is to say she caught me looking at her and asked if I was looking for trouble. I told her I was only looking around, and she responded by aggressively telling me to keep my eyes off. I responded with a sarcastic remark related to how much she had been drinking, and surprisingly she opened up more. She said that she was drinking to forget things, but it only served to make her more angry, and when she got angry, she tended to hit things. Or people. After ensuring that I wasn’t within striking distance, I asked her what she was trying to forget.

She said she was part of a caravan that got attacked, and they burned both everyone in the caravan except her, and for some reason the cargo. I inquired why they would do that. She said she thought it was the legion trying to cut off the supply lines. And she thinks it’s working, because the outpost is, in her words, “locked up tighter than a New Vegas virgin”. No caravans come in, and no caravans come out. I asked if she was out of the caravan business then. She said she was, after that. But there was one problem. She was still stuck here. Despite her caravan being very definitely gone, her caravan papers are still with her, and since no caravans are going through, she’s stuck here. She recommended going up north to the crimson caravan company if I was looking for work. I remembered that’s where Ringo worked. Regardless, I shifted the topic to the outpost in general. She mumbled more about being stuck here, and then complained about the “fucking monument” outside. She said that if the ncr put as much effort as they put into that monument into protecting the Mojave, they might actually be worth the thing. But as it is, it’s just a useless pile of scrap that caesar is just gonna melt down and reshape into a bull (something she suspects is making up for something) when he comes through here. I asked if there was any work around here. She told me to talk to Jackson if I was interested in some kind of running and gunning deal. Otherwise, she told me to go on the roof where I would find “Ghost”, a sniper who apparently spotted something relating to Nipton. I said my goodbye and left.

After getting up, I decided to talk to the people she had told me about. I started with the woman who goes by “Ghost Ranger” on the roof of the building I had been in. Asked her how she was and her thoughts on Mojave outpost. Much like everyone else here, she hated it. Called it one of the worst posts in the NCR. She also told me, with some urgency, that she had been seeing smoke above Nipton. She didn’t think it was the powder gangers, not this south. Unfortunately, they didn’t really have enough people here to send someone out to check it. She asked if I’d be willing to do it and report back what I find. Since I was going to be heading to Nipton on my way to Novac anyways, I told her I would.

I went into the other building to talk to Ranger Jackson. He was a busy fellow, as he was sure to remind me every other word, but he did have work for me. The road out of here needed clearing, and nobody was free to do it. He wasn’t technically allowed to hire me to do it, but he offered to make some supplies “disappear” if I made sure the road was cleared. So I did. This part was extremely uneventful so I won’t say anything other than some bigass bugs got fried by lasers. Coming back was eventful though. I found the corpse of a ghoul wearing some strange robes, and he was carrying an energy rifle which didn’t use fuel at all and seemed to recharge somehow. No idea how that works. Maybe it’s solar powered? Well, I’m not gonna question my new infinitely recharging energy rifle. I headed back to collect my reward from Ranger Jackson, and now I’m off to finally put to rest this whole Primm business. See you next time, Diary!

Howdy Folks

Hey everyone. I'm a mod and creator for the sub. I'm gonna make this short and sweet. This subs OG user base has died out. Which is fine, the subs pretty old and most of us moved on. However, the sub remains and people visit and post on it. That being said I'm gonna begin updating the rules so its easier and less strict for people who want to post. This sub used to be a story/light RP sub but the glory days are long gone. So if you're even on this sub and reading this peep the rules. Something probably changed. If anyone wants to submit any ideas or rules or whatever just comment or PM or something idk man

Edit: If I can figure out how to change the sidebar and stuff these days anyways

Edit 2: I did it bois. I changed some shit. Basically removed a lot of the RP stuff since the community isn't as active. If you have anything to say please do, otherwise, it probably won't be changed again for a while.

Now pat me on the back and praise for doing so good. :P <3

Chad: A Fallout 76 Story ~ Journal #2

Previous entry: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheFalloutDiaries/comments/by7acc/chad_a_fallout_76_story_journal_1/

https://imgur.com/gallery/IsjUM4v

Appalachia, Day 46:68F, hazy. Nightmarish and restless sleep. I dreamt of people I do not know sleeping in my bed and posing for pictures crouching over my sleeping form quickly…to mimic the act of the “tea bag”. I awoke parched and miserable. The last glucose covered flakes of the Sugar Bombs I found in Grafton I managed to suck out of a t-shirt I found in a trash can (along with a paper cup and a wrench). Must find food. I shall try and find Chad’s camp to see if any of my missing supplies are there. On the way I’ll pass his grave. I say grave. More disconcertingly, my PipBoy has broadcast my position and someone or something has placed a bounty on me. I have heard tales of Vault-Tec’s “experimental” vaults, but who on Earth could’ve seen what I did? Who could’ve known?

Appalachia, Day 46 (continued):Alarmingly the trash can is empty. Chad’s body appears to be missing. Couldn’t see any tracks in the area, so it’s unlikely wildlife dragged him off somewhere. It’s almost as if some unholy force resurrected him. But that…(meaningless scribbles and obscenities)

A search of his “camp” was however, fortuitous. I found a scrawled note in a paper bag. It indicates that there may be a diner nearby with a functioning food dispenser. I shall strike out this afternoon in search of much needed food. Sky grows dark in the west…the empty trash can.

Appalachia, Day 47:62F, hungry. It’s pie. A perfectly preserved piece of PIE. Not irradiated, or spoiled…or found obscenely and impossibly in the folds of skin on a molerat. A piece of delicate pie with pink frosting. While the machine appears functional, it employs a Machiavellian tension arm. I am on my 8th hour attempting to retrieve this pie.

Appalachia, Day 51:It’s there. It’s right there. Pie. Why won’t you grab it? Are you broken? Are you taunting me? I want the pie. Please. So hungry…ate some raw molerat meat. I have worms now. Fuck Chad.

Apielacha, Day 52:Pie. Pie. Pee pie po pum. Please won’t you. Pie please. So tired…must keep pying. Health low.I wonder, will I dream?

Chad: A Fallout 76 Story ~ Journal #1

https://imgur.com/gallery/SZTh0ol

Appalachia, Day 42:
74F, sunny and clear. After finding toilet paper at the Super Duper Mart, I returned to my camp only to discover a stranger had made himself comfortable at my home. After a moment’s confusion, I realized it was Chad from the Vault. After a brief chin wag recalling "good times" at 76, he asked me for some purified water and dog food. Being neighborly, I happily shared what meager resources I had and he went on his way.

Appalachia, Day 43:
64F, rainy. Chad returned to camp today, after setting up a tent nearby. I was attempting to build a port-o-potty and kept hitting my thumb with a hammer as he rambled on about molerats. Asked to “borrow” some stimpacks. I told him I only had 3 and gave him 1 (I have 18). He then said he had somewhere to be.

Appalachia, Day 44:
78F, whatever. Woke up to Chad grinding away at my armor station. Helped himself to some of my leftover dog food. Proceeded to get drunk and thought it would be funny to climb on my power armor. I went a short distance away and vented my growing frustration by shooting some trees.

Appalachia, Day 45.
I shot Chad in the face. Great weather today.

Author's note: These journals I wrote starting in BETA have now become a podcast that has taken off. If anyone wants to give a listen...let me know and I'll share the link. :) Thought I'd reshare the original journals.

Log of Gen. Joseph Tecumseh Dawson, 5th Division, US Army

Jan. 30, 2103:

As of today, we are back at no new recruits. I have reliable intel that Co. B was wiped out during a scorched ambush, and I can only assume Co. C has deserted my command. That leaves 1 company for the entire division.

Overkill and D met me at the fort around 1400 hours. They resupplied as I finished cleaning up, and we supped on fried dog food and boiled water. It’s not much but it kept us fed and warm.

At briefing, Overkill noted how a change in the radioactivity of the wind affected the damage and upkeep of our explosive weapons. We’ll keep an eye on their performance just to be sure.

I briefed them on our next mission. The excursion to the space station ruins had proven that there might be a threat from space vehicles in orbit. To allay it, we needed to disable the biggest receiver-the tower at on top of the world.

Rose, the current mechanized owner of the tower, would never let us up to disable or destroy it directly - so that left one option. We had to locate the secondary access terminal (SAT) and upload a virus to disable its enabling software.

We arrived at the ski resort known as ‘on top of the world’ around 1600 hours. It is but a shadow of what it once was. Giant verandas are replaced with craters; scenic views now guarded by frenzied humans infected with the scorched plague. I moved us toward the ski resort to the north and the battalion followed. A super was standing outside, auto rifle in hand. I opened fire with 40 mm grenades while Overkill blasted him with explosive shells. D was on our left flank with a melee attack, taking down a warlord inside. Afterward, he came out and him and Overkill advanced in the courtyard. I went into the ski lodge, finding two more gunner mutants. They hit me in the chest about six times before I took down the first with 3 nades, on the balcony. I backed away as the second fell from an extra 3.

I rejoined the troupe halfway through the courtyard. Overkill downed another. D took two more down with rapid slashes to the abdomen, but he had to retreat to the fort for immediate attention in our auto doc afterward - he took two direct hits to the helmet.

As Overkill and I waited, we took defensive positions behind the last layer of earthworks before the courtyard’s outer gate, I spied a legendary warrior. “12 o clock”, I whispered. Overkill squinted past her helmet and nodded.
D was back within the hour, and we began our assault. I began a steady bombardment of his position while D ran up and knocked him nearly unconscious. Overkill gave the death blow from her sniper rifle-BOOM!

Overkill took out the last just past the gate with a well placed shot to the stomach, spilling his guts all over the pavement. Then she suggested we step back as she took out the fuel tanks rigged with explosives and an oil slick on the other side of the gate. What a wise decision. She sounds like officer material. We moved into the lodge and scoured the grizzled remains of the once beautiful place. Nothing.

‘Ready for more?’ I beckoned to the men. They acquiesced, and we moved down the hill onto a small plain leading to a small motel. Overkill and D entered from the front while I unlocked the rear door. As I walked in to the ruins, a scorched popped off two shots at my chest from behind a counter. D was engaged with a fistfight with another in the center of the lobby. I drilled my grenades into the head of the first, and then all three of us concentrated on the second. D used his gauntlet to slash a hole in her head a mile wide, and we relaxed. Salvage was sparse but present. A few screws here, a clipboard there. When we finished we walked outside-to be greeted by three more scorched, one directly to our left, one in front, and another to our right! Without thinking I fired off two grenades to the left and dove into the ground. The resulting explosions rattled windows for miles-every car’s reactor in the parking lot had joined in to the explosion.

I led us forward, north to the next grouping of lodges. It was here that we encountered and dispatched a smaller group of scorched. There was a terminal located upstairs, but it was not the SAT.

I next moved us west to the last grouping of buildings. No enemies were here, nothing but rubble and skeletons. In the skeletons of one of those buildings, I found the terminal. I uploaded the virus, and we booked back to the fort for debriefing.
