A place to share anything and everything related to British Columbia's Sunshine Coast.
Share news, picture, events, or anything at all really as long as it is related to the Sunshine Coast from Langdale to Lund.

Hi all. Does anyone know if private wells on the coast are affected by the drought conditions? I’d expect they would but was just interested if anyone has any first hand experience.
Hi! Im looking for a recommendation for a solid rye bread on the coast, hopefully a sourdough type and a bit fancy.
I had a delicious cranberry walnut sourdough rye when I was in Van last week and I need to find something at that level of amazing in a bread here, I don't want to bake it myself.
Hey all, visiting family in half-moon this week and was cruising around the garden bay area.
What's the story about the "i will not give up my marine assets without a fight" signs.
Tried googling, but couldn't find anything.
Cheers all!
I'm looking at ordering take out for a large crowd, what's the best thai food in gibsons to halfmoon bay? The two places I saw in Sechelt and Gibsons seemed to have very similar menus.
Hi,
Hoping for any information about tips to get a new family doctor or np on the coast. My elderly relative had her doctor move away and needs a supportive care environment as she’s not comfortable advocating for herself. We’ve signed up on health link.
Any new offices opening up?
Whether its custom charters with a landing craft, scenic tours, or basic shuttle services. Where do you think there is a need that isn't being met?
My partner and I have been dreaming of moving to the Sunshine Coast for about a decade, but have always had jobs that have tied us to the city. This might be changing for us and we are considering making the move.
We have family on the coast and spend a lot of time there. We are aware of the challenges of smaller town, rising cost, BC Ferry drama and the water shortage issues. We feel the pros far outweigh the cons.
My question is for the parents (or kid involved) people in this group. We have two young kids. What is it like for kids growing up on the Sunshine Coast today?
What are the schools like? Any great schools? Are there good opportunities for extracurricular activities? What do the youth in the community like to do?
Hey all,
I’m coming to the coast and staying near Halfmoon Bay. Looking for weekend activities recommendations (hikes, restaurants, sights). Any help would be great!
Thanks!
i'm living in madeira park until may and i'd love to find some queer community while i'm here. where do you hang out? should i get into rock climbing? tell me how to find you!
Hi there!
Wondering for advice as to where I should rent in sunshine coast or BC. I'm an exchange student from California who will finish up their exchange year in ubc in a few months. I want to stay here in BC for the summer (end of April to early September) with my SO. We are planning to take online summer classes, work on writing projects (cuz we are nerds lol), and do a lot of nature and culture exploration (I'm a nerd for both and especially love nature, same with my SO). We are not into nightlife too much, and don't go out to eat too often (we cook a lot). We sometimes like to fantasize about living in a cabin in the woods if that helps at all lol in terms of vibes XD We also don't have a car rn but are thinking of renting for road trips. We will probably have bicycles. We would like a place that allows us access to a lot of cool experiences (like treating my rental as both a home and a vacation hub - cuz I also have all my life belongings with me which is about 1 very small bedroom).
I have not explored the sunshine coast at all. I also have not explored much of Vancouver and surrounding areas due to school and other time constraints. And have not set foot on Vancouver island yet.
With that context, I'm wondering what yall think would be a great place to rent in sunshine coast, and if I should rent in sunshine coast vs Vancouver island (eg. Victoria) vs Vancouver vs somewhere else for a best summer experience for the both of us. We are not wealthy by any means but we can afford split rent and car rentals and activities here or there. I also have planned a lengthy backpacking trip in Vancouver island - unless my wrist injuries don't heal (I might need surgery for my wrist/s TFCC, not sure, and don't know how that changes the equation).
So, which place in sunshine coast should I rent for a great and adventure filled summer experience. And should I rent somewhere else in BC rather due to my context? Ty for any advice!
Thinking of staying at a friend’s place tomorrow near halfmoon bay. I do NOT have winter tires or chains, just all season tires. Are the roads cleared up enough for me to be able to safely drive? How is the ice buildup?
What is the likelihood of getting on ferry (with car) from hsb to langdale on 15th and then returning on 17th? I've never waited without a reservation to sunshine coast? thx.
Does anyone know who the artist is? I bought this years ago in Powell River at some festival or pop up. It’s only titled “Shingles Beach”. I Iove the style and it would be great to find the artist.
Hey all, I am coming over from the mainland for the long weekend to go canoeing up in Powell River. We’ve booked a regular car reservation but my buddy who’s driving is having a mild anxiety attack because he thinks his rooftop rack will put the height of his car over 7 feet, and that the folks at the Lions Bay terminal will deny us boarding because the vehicle will now qualify as ‘overheight.’ I tell him this is very unlikely to happen, but to be fair there are people with more experience than me in this area so I thought I would ask! Do any of the Sunshine Coast ferry regulars in this group think that this will be a problem? I have attached a picture of the truck for reference. TIA!
Perhaps an impossible request, but I work online as a teacher and was hoping to do a short bikepacking trip over to Sechelt Friday morning to Saturday with some friends. The only problem is that I need WiFi to teach and a place that is quiet-ish (cafe noise is fine) on Friday night from around 3-8. Does anyone have a suggestion on places to work for a few hours?
Hello, posted this in VANCOVERHIKING, but thought id look here as well I am planning on completing the SCT this year to complete a bucketlist item for myself. I will be going solo from north to south. I am from nowhere Saskatchewan. I have zero experience with ferries and very little with mass transit, so just looking for some advice and tips to make sure what I have planned will work. I am hoping to fly into Comox and take the ferry across to Powell River. it leaves at 9:55am and then 3:55pm. my flight would arrive at 9:20ish. is it reasonable to think i could cab it to the ferry in time or plan on the later afternoon one, and how important is booking in advance. my plan is to then hire the shuttle to take me up to Sara point and begin. I am giving myself a 6-9 day window to complete. i am not sure on best way to get home. my plan is to either hop on the ferry at sultry bay and try to figure out how to get back to Vancouver airport or maybe cab or hitch a ride back to Powell River and then back to Comox. the sunshine coast connector service wouldn't be running at that time is my understanding, but is there other means to get between those two points? Any other tips for getting around would be super appreciated. i think i would prefer comox to get home since its seems like less mucking around. just one ferry. anyway really excited to check out your neck of the woods. thanks a bunch
Hello all, I'm looking for a stay with my partner who'll have just finished exams in April. We're looking for the hidden gems or local recommendations (and not "XYZ 5 star resort with 5 course meals", coz we can't afford that) A cabin, yurt, treehouse, or a place overlooking the ocean, lakes, Sechelt Inlet would be great. Just looking to relax. Thanks!
looking to install solar. anyone have good/bad experiences to share? it's a lot of money so any advice is appreciated.
My family have been looking to move to the Sunshine Coast for many years. With the market starting to move we are ready to get this done. However, a friend who lives there has said the Coast has become hostile to newcomers. With 1 kid in elementary school and 1 in high school this has me worried for them. We're really wanting to fit right in to the community, not protesting for a bridge or a new highway. If anyone has any advice, it would be appreciated.
It's my understanding that the coast has a fair amount of wildlife and have heard a few stories about bears in town. Do coast people hike or bike in the woods alone? Would this be considered risky due to wildlife? Are there certain seasons to avoid being alone in the forest?
Reed Road has some construction and the westbound lane west of North Road is gravel. today for the second time in a week I someone cruising west on the wrong side of the road, blowing over blind hills like there was no one else alive in the world.
someone is going to get killed.
Long story short, I came across a piece of work by the late Will Cummer, and I was interested in acquiring it.
Unfortunately, I have learned that he passed in 2020, but I don't see any record of the piece I was looking for being sold.
I expect this is a long shot, but if anyone knows his family or a contact of his, I would be extremely grateful.
To be clear, I understand that it'd be weird to ask for their contact, so I'm more than happy to pass mine along and they can reach out. If it helps, the piece I'm looking for is a wooden octopus.
Cheers
My wife and I are renting a campervan and coming to the sunshine coast for 5 days next week. We will likely be staying in public or private campgrounds for the nights in but are also curious about private parking spaces that people might offer on their properties. If anyone offers or knows of people who offer private parking spaces I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks!
Researchers from the University of Victoria are inviting British Columbians who live in rural and remote communities to take part in an online survey examining how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their wellbeing.
The survey is open to anyone who lives in a rural and/or remote community in British Columbia (population under 10,000), is 18 or older, and can complete an online questionnaire in English. We encourage individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds to share their experiences so that our survey results can reflect the voices of rural and remote residents and speak to their needs during these unprecedented times.
The survey takes around 15-30 minutes to complete and can be accessed by clicking here: https://uvic.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0TyTVnZhSwjSDAO
