Show just ended curious on how you feel
I have to work so selling cheap $25 wish I could go http://tixel.com/u/adrianap17
What's they name of the instrument Alex plays on his lap during Manipulation? Small box, string instrument. Thanks
I fully enjoyed it while it was a more mellow set They sat on chairs That should tell you enough
They reimagined all their songs. Dialed way back on any distortion. Had acoustic guitars instead. Drummer only had a bass drum and a snare from what I could tell. And they just sat in chairs the entire time. Very low energy night and not what I've expected from previous shows.
Good for them I guess for trying to change things up, but as a fan I was let down, as were the people I was with.
Who’s going to the show at the belly up on Saturday?
Is Ram out of the band? Footage from the European tour indicates there's a female playing bass. I don't expect any official announcement from the band seeing as how they've handled lineup changes in the past. He was also not present for the semi acoustic set they played in Austin a couple weeks ago...
Hey all huge fan of the band caught them in Portland Oregon a few years back. Looking at going to the show Oct 18th but don't have a presale code. Anybody willing to share? Appreciate it. I'll buy you a beer at the show! \m/ \m/
It's actually in my contract at work to manage my hours *to an extent.* They're wonderful for allowing it, but I'll be the first to admit enough is never enough. Mornings can be beautiful to behold, freshen the senses, a quiet time to eat delicious home cooked breakfast. Unfortunately... I'm more likely to enjoy a morning like that after staying up all night.
So anyway I set La Pared (Govt. Wall Blues) to be my final wake-up alarm in the morning. Highly recommended. It's *PERFECT* because those gentle and nostalgic bells begin the track without being "ALARMING." Then the first fuzz enters as a final warning before the band kicks in, loading me up with excitement and IMMEDIATELY wanting to get up and go join a rebellion and do some war cries.
Over and over and over again, THANK YOU and Congratulations to the Black Angels. Damn.
I could swear I heard a snippet of Stainless Steel Providers in the encore last night at the Variety Playhouse (Atlanta)… anyone know if I was just hearing similarity or maybe TBA paying homage to Revolting Cocks?
Personally, I haven’t been a huge fan of the Black Angels since Phosphene Nightmare. I think Nate Ryan (and Kyle Hunt) brought a lot to the band, stylistically, that I’ve missed on their recent records.
Anyways, I was working late last night and listening to their new record on Spotify in the background and heard some familiar lyrics…
“Nico is crying and no one can help her. Icon is drowning and no one can tell.”
I recognized this as Alex Maas’ “Icon” that he used to play acoustically for friends in the 2005 / 2006 era. I used to be a regular on The Black Angels forum around this time and people would trade videos or mp3’s of demos and wondering these songs would make it to albums via The Shine Brothers, The Viet Minh, Christian Bland & the Relevators, etc. Kind of like when “I’d Rather Be Lonely” which was an Alex Maas acoustic song was re-worked into a full Black Angels song for their 2012 RSD 7” single.
Not a huge fan of the “Icon” revamp, since I think the lyrics fit the delicate and gentle acoustic nature instead of a full-blown psych rock song. But that’s just me.
