Sunday Sleepers
What are something you've been digging recently, or tryna put the people on to?
In the pod yesterday when they were talking about voting as it comes to abortion and women's rights, Marc and Mel blamed men for "taking women's rights away" and "trying to control women". I think that's bullshit and contradicts their whole argument when it came to women taking accountability.
In this election women had less turnout than the last election and more women voted for Trump than they did last election. Yet somehow that's blamed on Men for trying to control women's bodies. Where is the accountability in that a bunch of women are seemingly not in favor of abortions or are in favor of abortions but are you lazy to do anything about it?
That's where Mel comes in. She blames her not being a citizen and voting on lawyer costs? That might be the biggest load of bullshit that's ever been said on the show.
For 1: She's a high earning gainfully employed Canadian citizen who has lived here for decades and has no felonies (I assume). This would be the easiest case and approval the INS has ever done
2: It would be such an easy process that she doesn't need a lawyer. But fine let's say she doesn't have time. An immigration lawyer for such a easy case wouldn't be expensive. A couple grand max and it would be streamlined.
3: She's been in the US for a decade and a half. She could have got a citizenship at any time then. Trump was elected. She could have taken that as a sign she needs to be a citizen in order to prevent that from happening again. Then Trump repealed roe v Wade federally. AND SHE STILL DIDN'T BECOME A CITIZEN. And then she still become a citizen when Trump started his campaign again.
So if in the 20+ years she's lived here she's never once taken the time to get a citizenship so she could make her voice heard, how the hell can she flip that into "Men are trying to control women"? How come the overall narrative wasn't that a bunch of women voted against the Democrats and a bunch of other women weren't passionate enough about it to even vote in the first place? Closest to accountability I see is when they blame white women but then they turn around and say their sexist husbands brainwashed them.
Fwiw cause I know the melodies will try to attack me vs talking about the actual subject, I voted for Kamala and I voted Yes on the abortion question which was on my states ballot and it passed. So in a way, I've done more for abortion and women's rights than Mel (that's a joke calm down). Anyways, I didn't expect to write this much, makes me look wild lol, but fuck it, let's talk
I don’t mean this as hate or shade, but…
Dr. Umar’s appearance on the latest episode of the JBP should have been an incredible opportunity for him to shed bright light on various issues that directly impact the Black community, addressing many specific concerns at large. However, his time on the show was met with what I believe was excessive resistance from specifically from Ish, driven by an overly ego-centered approach.
While Ish often presents himself as candid, knowledgeable, and intelligent, I feel as if his overall behavior toward Dr. Umar and his insights came across as argumentative and, at times, borderline confrontational. It felt to me as though Ish was more focused on asserting his own viewpoints loudly and dominantly rather than listening to and engaging with Dr. Umar's perspectives.
Podcasts often thrive on passionate, spirited discussions, but I feel that this particular episode, with Dr. Umar as the guest, turned into a somewhat missed opportunity.
What do ya'll think?
Peace/Love
