(Source: The trailer I translated here).
The running theory is the game will begin with each of the 3 legends dividing the cast into teams. I find this idea compelling because it fits GOB, it divides/highlights their main characters, a lot of clips show similar groups together consistently, and we see shots of 1v1v1 games.
After rewatching the trailer a few times, I made this rough prediction:
Background = Very confident. Dark Outline = Likely. Light Outline = Indirect evidence.
We can speculate on more twists, but I'd be stretching. Best I can tell, there's a spy twist where they rob a vault in the house.
The season will be broadcasting in November. The specific date is yet to be announced.

In more ground-breaking news, they released the first cast poster, and on top of the hype people we already knew, Kim Kyungran is in the cast! Her first appearance in about 8 years (since TG4).
So to summarise the official cast so far (ie. Not based on leaks): Dongmin, Jinho, Kyungran, Lim Hyunseo, Xitsuh, MJ Kim, Yurisa, Joo Eonkyu.
I was looking for a show similar to elite league for students or academic competence. Any recommendation?

IMPORTANT: THE EVENT IS HELD ON DISCORD. STATE YOUR DISCORD USERNAME IN FORM
10 Genius ORG Champions.
Far more challengers.
The biggest(?) offshoot of a Genius ORG ever.
In The Genius: Champ The Champion, challengers will attempt to best 10 previous ORG winners in order to earn either a year of Nitro Basic, or an equivalent donation to a charity of their choice once they win.
This is an offshoot ORG with a radically different format, far larger cast, and a short and casual feel to it, so feel free to sign up! There will be far less committment placed than a regular ORG. The estimated runtime for this ORG is about 2-3 months at most.
Of course, DM me if you have any questions on discord: Goldietherobocat
Applications will close within 3 weeks, or if the number of signups exceeds 40. The cast count is flexible however, and the date can be extended if needed.
No former experience is needed! Feel free to sign up.
How do you all proceed to watch this series till the end if you already know who's the winner/top 3? Personally in these kind of shows I like to root for 1 or 2 person then if they're out I immediately lose interest. The same with season 1 of this series. This series is HEAVILY spoiled and I already knew who's the winner in all 4 seasons lol. So now I can't force myself to watch it. Perhaps this series is not for me?
I know the offical English translation is "Rules of the Game" for season 1 however in korean it's 게임의 법칙 which is an exact translation to Law's of Games, like a word play of Laws of Physics.
So I want to ask which name does it sound the coolest or do you like better?
Binged watched season 1, over the weekend and was hooked from the first episode.
Now on episode 7 of season 2… And already this is more drama filled than season 1 with the introduction of the Immunity token etc.
I do think the games are way more convoluted.
So I’m interested - With no spoilers on who won each season, what was everyone’s favourite season?
Personally, I especially can't wait for Game of Blood 3, it is the most interesting and I think it will have a stellar cast playing the games. S2 was much stronger than S1 and did a great job of fixing a lot of issues, and continuously changing up the format to my great surprise.
I am also very intrigued by how the second season of Devil's Plan will do a good job of improving and iterating off of the good but not amazing first season it had. Still, I trust JJY PD's abilities to make a fantastic resurgence with this show.
Then, I really have practically no expectations for the British version of The Genius, I'll bet that it'll be either a pale imitation of the original (like the new UK Survivor if you've seen it) or a decent remix of The Genius, but you really need a smart and competitive cast to have the show and games to be any good.
How does everyone else feel about these shows?
Hello,
I created a discord ORG server with rules and games that take inspiration from The Genius and Devil's Plan. If you're interested, please join the server in the link https://discord.gg/pAHK5dnz
Applications go from September 2nd to September 22nd. To apply, join the server and go to the applications channel. For questions, feel free to DM me or ask on the server. The competition is scheduled to start on September 29th, and will span about 7 weeks.
Edit: updated the link.
It's been confirmed that one and only God Dongmin and Hong Jinho are on the cast!
Jinho was soft-confirmed earlier, but this'll be Dongmin's first time competing in ~7 years.
Very curious to see how the dynamics would play out, assuming the leaked/soft-confirmed cast is real, because it seems like Jinho should finally be in (slight spoiler for Time Hotel and GOB2) >!a good position going into it, since he isn't the biggest threat and actually has friends in the cast!< lmao.
Hi, my friend is going on a trip to Korea. I was wondering, if anyone knows, are there any Genius games available to buy in Korea?
Hi all, I'm a highschool teacher and spent my summer watching all 4 seasons of the genius. Loved it, so much so that I though hey, my students would enjoy playing games like this too!
So I was curious. What games do you think might work for "main matches"? I think death matches are easy- there are tons if 2 player abstract strategy board games I can pull from. But I'm having trouble thinking of a lot of suitable social deduction/strategy games. Some are easy to recreate like food chain, minus auction, mafia, etc. But many are very complex. Any ideas for group games I can use? The only caveat is I can't use super complicated games because of time constraints and well, theyre 9th graders haha. Any thoughts?
Im currently watching S2. I really enjoyed S1 and overall satisfied with the result/winner
As for S2, so far im still at ep 4. The eliminated player of ep1 and ep4 gave me so much satisfaction. Some may or may not agree but i am not fond of arrogant players and those who decided to cheat on his teammates unprovoked.
the eliminated player on ep4 was not even invited to join the opposing team, he just fed them his team's info willingly. while the ep1 eliminated player, i don't like his vibe and the way he talk behind the "rat" player not following his strategy just put me off.
anyway just wanna share my thoughts.
ps: i saw some spoilers re jinho (he was my fave) for this season so i gotta brace myself
One of the best incipit ever made.
The Genius S4E1 Opening (Pt. 1): https://youtu.be/tqeTzr8bNQE The Genius S4E1 Opening (Pt. 2): https://youtu.be/2OmJGE-7F00
So, disclaimer: Take all of this with a grain of salt, nothing is 100% confirmed as far as I'm aware. I believe these deductions were based on the cast members suddenly following each other as soon as the season was finished filming.
This is a pretty fucking hype cast though. I made a Twitter thread about this, but I'll just recreate it here for your convenience. And since I have more characters than Twitter, I'll use the cast bios that u/lackcal gave me (with a little tweaking), shoutout to him.
For dramatic effect, I'll list them (roughly) from least interesting to most. Prior shows have been bolded. Romanisation may vary.
So before reading the comments, beware of spoilers for the major shows involved (Society Game and Time Hotel).
Whoever did the editing for this show is a god. I’ve never seen any reality competition show utilize editing to pull off “plot twists” to this great of effect anywhere else. It’s genuinely incredible, especially considering the post-production turnover was so short as contestants seemed to have started watching the show live once it hit mid-season.
And in a similar vein, the show killed it when it came to narratives in each season. In particular, I was so invested in season 3’s >!alliance. They really made it seem like an epic and inevitable showdown in the finale.!<
Lastly, I loved the tone of the series. It was dramatic and full of backstabbing, but it was never (or rarely) mean-spirited. Each episode ended with a wholesome farewell and you could see that some of the contestant’s relationships grew off-screen even if they were eliminating each other. And of course >!Dongmin brought so much levity to the later seasons.!<
So I watched Devil's Plan and I loved it and naturally because this subreddit has discussion posts on those episodes I've been to this subreddit reading them and I am very confused about The Genius
A lot of the sentiment on this subreddit is that Devil's Plan was too alliance driven especially by Orbit and that the games weren't being played the proper way
I am 5 episodes into S1 of the Genius and so confused, maybe the format changes in other seasons but this show is WAY more alliance driven
The only skill that matters so far in this show is politicking, everything is designed for information sharing, or making an alliance to be the majority power, even the death matches are like this
Rock Paper Scissors has been played 3 times in 5 episodes, and it's just an election and not a game, they just try to secure wins, including in episode 5 where the eliminated players return which wasn't known, and couldn't be bargained with at all, it was a complete popularity contest
Don't get me wrong I like the show, but not sure what everyone is talking about, Devil's Plan had way more gamesmanship than this does so far
I have a doubt right now and I am not sure if I understood something wrong. In episode 2 season 2 at the end Jihno wins and gets 10 garnets and a clue for the immortal thing, but at the beginning of the third episode he only has 5? (At that point he had 2 so he should have 12) If anyone could clarify this I would be thankful
Also will it be explained later why we haven't been told the first clue? The first episode iirc 5 people won it (including Jihno) but when he started searching for the immortal item we were only told about last episode clue, no mention of the first episode clue
So I’m giving this show a try and I really like it so far! But why is the background music from Dexter(Showtime) on it? It’s throwing me for a loop.
Does anyone know the current state of Jihno project Project Genius? The last thing I heard was his last youtube video
Hey everyone!
I've been a massive fan of The Genius for years, and one of my favourite games from the show has always been Gyul Hap. After getting inspired, I decided to create an Android game based on it a few years back - Recently, I have decided to re-create the game, but this time with new ways of playing and include an online leaderboard.
Introducing CardMatch: Ultimate Challenge! 🎉 It’s got three different modes - campaign, time attack, and zen mode. I’ve spent a ton of time making sure it’s fun and challenging, and I’d love for you all to check it out. Campaign mode will give you a set amount of time which you will increase slowly over time - compete against other players on the leaderboard to see if you can rank the highest in the span of a month! Time Attack is a basic 'race-against-the-clock' mode, while in Zen mode you can take your time to play through the Gyul Hap boards.
Making this game has been a real passion project for me, and I'd love to hear what fellow fans think. If you have any feedback, tips, or just want to share your thoughts, I’m all ears. Plus, it'd be awesome to see how everyone does in the different modes!
If you are interested, you can find the game on the Google Play Store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.movinggstillstudios.thegenius_gyulhap
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy playing as much as I enjoyed creating it!
I'm pretty sure it's Indian poker. It's a very easy rule game, but to win, you need betting skills, psychological fighting skills, strong mentality, and luck. I'd pick Black and White for second place. It's pretty much the same reason as Indian poker. I love how the game is simple and the rules are intuitive, but anyone can play their own game with their own strategy.
What was your favorite episode by series, and why?
I love "Episode 5, Fraudulent Horse Racing" the most in season 1. It's really interesting and you can see a lot of players doing their best. And it has a lot of really good background music effects. Also, Eunji has become one of my favorite players because she showed great lies in the game and uses her image (a "misunderstanding" or "bias" that she's incompetent and stupid) to survive without taking any responsibility for the lies.
(Actually, I think Eunji was a strong player. In the game, she was misunderstood and devalued a lot, but rather, she took a good chance to take advantage of it.)
I love "Episode 1, Food Chain" the most in season 2. It's a really well-organized, interesting game. The balance of the game is intentionally broken, but it was a fun game to make everyone quickly decide who is the enemy and who is going to be an ally in their first meeting. Having played that game in real web games, I love playing "Chameleon" or "Crocodile." "Chameleon" is thrilling to be able to negotiate with "The Lion" while pretending to be a Rat and betray the Lion at an important moment. "Crocodile" works with "The Crocodile Bird," so the game doesn't feel lonely, and it's fun for me to play risk-taking as we go into the second round.
I like 'Episode 9, Midway Run 2' the best in season 3. I liked to see Yeon-seung overwhelm others with his excellent tactics and cooperative abilities, taking his revenge. Ha Yeon-ju was a good helper for him, and she got better at the end because she didn't give up and showed good death-match skills even though she was in crisis.
I love "Episode 1, ID Exchange" the most in season 4. I loved the way every player showed their characteristics in episode 1.
I'm Korean, and I'm happy to meet people on Reddit who still have an interest in 'The Genius'. I would like to provide 'update information' of the past cast members. I numbered them in the order of the rounds in which they were eliminated. Please continue to love Genius! And please forgive my bad english :)
Season 1 101 Lee Jun-seok: He was elected as a member of the 'Hwasong' National Assembly. He is a politician who is now facing many criticisms and challenges.
102 Kim Min-seo: She is doing a good job as an auction house. Also, she has a cute dog.
103 Cha Min-soo: He recently published a book related to poker. Also, he participated in a poker competition despite his age.
104 Choi Chang-yeop: He was arrested for drug crimes but was recently released. He succeeded in rehabilitation and now works for an ordinary company.
105 Choi Jung-moon: She is active as a YouTuber. Her YouTube name is 'What do you think, Jung Moon-ah?' (That's the question Dong-min asked her at 405. lol) https://www.youtube.com/@choijungmun
106 Kim Gu-ra: He is still actively working as an MC. He is not any different from before.
107 Kim Poong: He recently closed his cafe. Also, he got married.
108 Cha Yuram: She entered politics, but retired due to a scandal with her husband. Since then, she has been a billiard player again.
109 Park Eun-ji: She recently gave birth to a daughter. She runs a makeup business with her broadcasting career.
110 Sung-gyu: He is acting as a musical actor along with his acting career.
111 Lee Sang-min: He has fully paid off his debts. He still appears on the show from time to time.
2nd place Kim Kyung-ran: She is divorced. Now she appears on the show from time to time. (Ironically, her ex-husband's name is 'Kim Sang-min.' Yes, it's 'Sang-min.')
Winner Hong Jin-ho: He is enjoying his second prime as a poker player. He is married and is expecting a son soon. (His son's birth name is 'Kong Kong-ee.' lol.)
Season 2
201 Nam Hwi-jong: He also works as a YouTuber and as a math instructor in his day job.
202 Jae-kyung: She is an actress. Her hobby is horseback riding recently.
203 Lee Da-hye: She is the head coach of the Korean women's Go League team. Her team won in 2021 and 2023.
204 Lee Eun-gyeol: He is participating in a performance as a magician. I recently remember watching The Magician Survival Program, in which he appears as a guest.
205 Lim Yoon-sun: She still works well as a lawyer. Sometimes she appears on the air as a political commentator.
206 Lee Doo-hee: He married Jisook, a member of the girl group Rainbow. (That's the girl group that Jae-kyung belonged to. Maybe Jae-kyung introduced her to Doo-hee?)
208 Noh Hong-chul: He runs a bakery. Unfortunately, you can't see him well on TV anymore.
209 Joe Yoo-young: She lost most of her career after The Genius. (Actually, her announcer career was starting when she appeared on The Genius. She was 24 years old.) So, she is not exactly up to date. However, according to inaccurate information, she went to law school and graduated to become a lawyer. I hope this information is true. I'm hoping she'll live well somewhere.
210 Eun Ji-won: He is active in entertainment shows.
211 Yoo Jung-hyun: He tried unsuccessfully to become a lawmaker in Seoul. Since then, he has been on the air again.
No. 2 Lim Yo-hwan: He is a poker player and recently has been mulling over his daughter's career with his wife. (His wife says it would be cool if daughter became a fatherly professional gamer, but Yo-hwan is against having his daughter become a professional gamer.)

302 Kim Kyung-hoon: He is married and raising a daughter. He recently launched his coffee brand business.
303 Kang Yong-seok: He worked as a YouTuber who deals with political and social gossip in Korea. He has received a lot of criticism.
305 Yoo Soo-jin: She is working as an asset manager. Her nickname, 'Rich unnie,' and her video clip were recently stolen and used in fraudulent advertisements. Su-jin says she is very sorry about that.
306 Kim Jung-hoon: He became controversial for refusing to take a breathalyzer test after causing a car accident.
307 Lee Jong-beom: He is on a radio show. He also helps aspiring webtoon writers.
308 Shin Ah-young: She got married and gave birth to a daughter. Surprisingly, she was appearing on a famous Korean soccer program called 골 때리는 그녀들 when she was in her early pregnancy.
309 Kim Yu-hyun: He recently returned as a poker player and won the competition.
310 Ha Yeon-ju: She's married to a crypto wealthy man and has assets of over 4 trillion won ($2,880,205,070). (Wow. I'm so jealous.)
311 Choi Young-seung: He won second place by appearing in Game of Blood, and his oriental medicine clinic expanded with good operation. His oriental medicine clinic has TV, which continues to air only genius programs.
2nd place Oh Hyun-min: He was recently discharged from the military. And he works as an academy instructor in southern cities of Korea.
Winner Jang Dong-min: He is raising a daughter and a son one by one. He also recently appeared on a travel entertainment program.
