I’m brand new to telemark andI got some killer deals on older bindings and previous model boots. Is this normal for an outlaw? They engage fine but it is chewing up the plastic a little bit. Just want to make sure that’s normal with these before I start skiing them
Got these on eBay and found out later the ski/walk mode is broken on one boot. Guess I'm skiing in walk mode haha
Hello from Finland! I posted here before about if should start tele again. I’m a 41 years old and weight 135 kilos (300 lbs but prefer kilos, lol). I had some health problems (mostly depression, sleep problems, bulging disc and untreated sleep apnea). Gained a lot of weight being over 160 kg (355 lbs) and I’ve been working a lot lose the weight and still losing.
I’ve been working on my leg strength in the gym doing loads of Bulgarian split squats and trap bar deadlifts because my sh*tty back doesn’t allow any heavy back squats or deadlifts. Besides that I train jiu jitsu 2-3 times a week, commute with an ebike and ride some mtb and gravel occasionally. Planning to do some xc skiing as well. (It takes shitload of work to get back in shape…)
I’ve been telemarking since I was nine. Started with buckleless (is that a word?) leather boots and skinny touring skis on family trips on fells of northern Finland. I did alpine racing as a kid/teenager as well. I only skied tele from my 20’s to mid 30’s. Did one hobbyist freeride competition as well and won but there was only three participans in tele category and other guys were signicantly older than me.
I consider myself being okay at telemark. I used to ski with a friend who was in telemark World Cup circuit and won some races and he’s better than I am but I could keep up with him. I can carve and ski pretty hard but I’m too old and too pussy to take risks anymore.
I had Nordica Enforcer 100’s as tele skis before but mounted them with alpine bindings when I was too fat to tele. Nice skis but I actually like them more with alpine bindings. My touring skis were Black Crows Corvus Freebirds and I had old GS skis with tele bindings (Freerides) as well.
I’m planning to ski mostly piste on small ski hills of southern Finland and do some skiing in bigger resorts in northern Finland. I may spend a week in the Alps as well but plan to ski alpine there bc I’m not in the shape to ski 1 km (3000 feet) of vertical on tele skis. I hope I can go to northern Norway do to do some spring touring as well.
I’m looking for all mountain skis ~90 mm underfoot. I’d like to buy skis from a friend who makes wooden artesan skis (check out pusu.ski) but those are too much of an Investmen bc I’m not confident about my ability to tele being old and fat.
I’ve looked at K2 Mindbender 90 Ti, Salomon qst 92, last season’s Blizzard Brahma 88 (maybe too stiff) and similar skis. Any recommendations?
And sorry for the long post and bad English
Here we go again, a bit about me. I'm 180cm 72kg, expert alpine skier and intermediate tele. I'm looking at getting some new tele skis, I learnt on some BD havoc 88s with O2 bindings. I've just ordered some Bishop BMF3 bindings and now I need something to put them on! I plan to eventually patrol on tele so something around 100 underfoot is preferred.
My current alpine quiver consists of 4fnt hoji 112 179s (favorite ski) K2 mindbender 99 ti 180 (not a huge fan, kinda soulless, my abuse at work ski/rock ski) Armada arw 106 ul 180 (was testing them for work, haven't got a ton of time on them)
I generally run shorter skis for the tight trees that my resort offers as well as maneuvering around rigs and fences.
What are some bomber skis to progress my tele skiing on? Or what skis should I stay clear of? Best base profile for tele? Camber? Rocker?
I'm based in the interior of BC, dry, cold snow.
Any advice is much appreciated!
There's nothing I love more than telemarking. During the season I look forward to each day on the slopes, and I hate to see the season end. Then I commit the next 6 months to daily strength and conditioning (not just for skiing, but for general fitness and health) so that I can come back stronger and fitter than ever. But around this time I start to actually get weirdly nervous about skiing again. Like I'm not going to be able to ski well, or I'm not going to enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I even KNOW that that's an irrational fear, but I still feel that trepidation. So I've just coined the term "skioprimophobia" - fear of skiing for the first time. Before I start psychoanalysis for it, has anyone else experienced this?
Does anyone have experience with the Fischer S-Bound 88? (Not excursion 88 nor S-Bound 98). Can’t find much info online about these nordic touring skis. Seem to be from circa 2021. Thanks!
Hello, As the title states I'm looking for some boots! Never tried before but figure I'd I can pick up a cheap set I can work out the links before investing!
Located in the New York (Saratoga area)
Lemme know if any leads, willing to pay shipping for the right price.
I am looking to get my boots fitted, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations in the PNW, specifically the Portland area, and if I need someone who specializes in tele boots, or if a alpine boot fitter could do a good job? Thanks
Back in the day, I liked my 7tm's for their DIN-like release function, but didn't like the collapsing climbing bail or the fussy challenge of clicking the binding back together if it did release.
Since then AT gear has progressed leaps and bounds for performance and weight, so I fixed the heel and my tele gear has been collecting dust.
Has it gotten any better? Is there a DIN-like releaseable tele binding and boot setup that can come close to AT gear on weight and still ski well?
By chance is anyone selling a kids tele setup? Otherwise, any advice on where to find kids tele boots? Ski recommendations? Happy to purchase the 22D kids Vice bindings, just want to lock down some boots and have an idea on a ski to mount them on. My daughter is currently wearing 19.5 mondo boots.
Hey folks,
I'm flying out to a wedding next week in CO and will be staying with my girlfriend's family just outside of Breck. Depending on what mountains are open, we are hoping to ski either Breck if it opens, Keystone, or A-basin. Are there any shops that rent NTN setups out there? I'd bring my boots, but don't really want to fly with skis for a single day of skiing.
Thanks much!
Or rather your favourite. I have budgeted a pair of skis for myself for this winter and am looking for something to only ski groomers. Bindings most likely will be the Bandits. So recommend me your favourite pair. I’ve previously tried Atomic x9s and they sure were fun. Looking for something with a radius of around 15m. Thanks!
Probably a dumb question but are you able to use the scarpa T2 ecos with NTN bindings even though they are 3-pin tele boots? I only ask because I am thinking about getting NTN bindings in the future and am wondering if I will also be needing new boots.
Do any pinheads in Boulder/Denver have a recommendation on where to take my new 22Design Bandit bindings to get mounted?
Thanks!
The new TX Po is becoming available in the shops ahead of snow season in the northern hemisphere. There is definitely a lot to like in these boots which should be a game changer for those of us who have been looking for a hybrid boot for both touring and resort skiing
For more information here is our detailed review based on tests made last season
I have an NTN setup for area skiing & I'd like to put together a BC touring kit. I'm thinking some Voile V6 BC skis, with my old Voile Switchback bindings, and resurrect my T2's. Assuming I can fix the broken buckle on the T2, can the lining be remolded for a halfway decent fit? They are kind of packed out. I'd like to get a year or 2 out of the T2's.
Haven't seen this mentioned here, so thought I'd share it. Cascade Telemark introduced a four-week Telemark Ski Conditioning Program on YouTube last week. It's even accompanied by a great PDF describing all the exercises. The exercises seem well conceived with expert instructions. I'd layer on your own choice of cardio and strength training, ideally all year long, but I like how this series can help with the tune-up for ski season and caters to the telemark skier. BTW, I have no affiliation with Cascade Telemark but certainly look forward to seeing them on the mountain someday!
No but seriously the turns were great for it being Oct.26th! I just purchased some very lightly used Garmont Syner-G boots and was curious if anyone has a recommendation for liners? zip fit?? Intuition? Thanks folks! Hope everyone can get out there ASAP, it was so refreshing to drop some pre szn knee in a T-shirt. Cheers y'all
Hi all, Looking to get into some light touring. I have an old set of Black Diamond Ascention skins that are still in good shape. They are trimmed for BD Ethics that i no longer have. 108-75-98 in a 176 length. I want to use my Bent 90s same length, 118-90-109. Are those skins too narrow? Thanks
Hi all,
Long time downhill, ex-jr. racer. Going to finally take the leap into tele this year. Any advice on which boots and bindings to check out? Probably would get new boots and maybe the Axl for bindings. I have a few pairs of decent downhill skis but can tele bindings be mounted to any ski or are there specific pairs which would be good?
Thank you for the help as I'm a total newb in the world of telemarking!
Dette er i jettegrytene i nissedal. Dette er en gangsti som fører til hettegrytene. Jeg husker at jeg gikk her da jeg var liten, lurte alltids på om det var for tømmerdrift i tideligere tider?
These live in the corner at Larry’s Boots in Boulder, Colorado. I had the same skis in 1989, same length (205’s), though different hidings (these are Chouinard Equipment).
Hello…lifetime/expert alpine skier here that’s been dabbling in tele. My dad gave me a pair of Scarpa T2 boots that fit great and are in good shape but are probably 20 years old at least. I have an old pair of Blizzard Brahmas that I was hoping to tele on. I’ve done it a bit before but am excited to learn and get better
So the last thing I need are bindings….hoping to avoid the old school style with the strap that hooks on the heel of the boot. Are there any new tele bindings that you’d recommend to pair with these boots? Or should I just bite the bullet and get new boots? Appreciate any advice.
Hey all,
Last year I started telemark skiing on the T4s. This year I want to upgrade to burlier boot to keep up with my AT friends and charge harder on steep terrain and in bad snow conditions.
I'm running the Rossignol XP 120 mounted with Voile SBs.
I'm torn between the Scarpa T1s and the Scarpa T2ecos. Apparently the T2ecos are a great hybrid boot for touring while the T1 is more of a frontside boot with all them buckles and the forward tilt, and more weight I assume.
Does anyone have any experience touring on the T1s or a boot similar to these?
I'm assuming they weigh more, but they'll let me ski more aggressive (and I can use them when I get a fat/stiffer ski setup) and at the time I'm young and might not suffer hauling them up the skin track.
Thoughts?
Best, Paul
Upgrading my whole kit this season. It'd been 10+ years.
