Im struggling to find a HDMI to ethernet extender for our LED wall while at tech tables. My problem has been finding one that can go more the 150m and keeps true black. I've tried 3 now and one can't handle the distance, one just didn't work, and the last turned all the blacks gray. Anyone find one they are happy with?
Hello! Just joined this group.
I have a unique situation I'd love some advice with. I work for a school district that has 3 schools with auditoriums. None of the schools has any wireless systems installed, and what's more is they share equipment between them for shows. I just started this job in July, and I'm trying to help them with organization, storage, and new mics. There's not a ton of room by any of the audio/lighting desks so I don't know that rack cases with say 4 systems each would be feasible. What they do is stack receivers up around the desk. The storage of these systems leaves a lot to be desired too.
Help me figure out a good way to store these systems & bring them to schools, please. I've been looking at Gator wireless system bags (not rack bags), they make one that allegedly will fit 5 systems. I'd also need to include power & there'd have to enough space for the power supplies. Far from ideal, but I have to deal with the hand I was dealt. Supposedly they're going to upgrade all 3 auds, and then I'd ask for a rolling rack that systems can be mounted in. But if I can get new systems purchased, I need to make sure they're taken care of properly in the meantime. I'm going to ask for 15-20 new Shure SLX systems. Is there some sort of road case that might work to store 4-5 systems each that can be moved from school to school?
I'll appreciate any good suggestions, thanks!
I’m using a Best Boy for follow spot for the first time, and it’s driving me nuts that the iris and intensity work in opposite directions. It’s super unintuitive for me and I keep going the wrong way on my iris.
Is there any way to reverse the iris so rolling down closes and rolling up opens?
Thanks.
Hey friends I'm looking for a bright led worklight that will dim on a dimmer without use of DMX
I had an order for the altman worklight II, but they are apparently unable to complete orders and gave been for months
Looking for comparable solutions, Google is u helpful as it just recommended home depot lights
Is there a certain type of paper I can print the content on that looks and feels more like a newspaper?
UPDATE: Thank you everyone, I have sorted my problem out and have come to a solution! I appreciate everyone's input!
So I have a new harlequin Marley floor next to an old one from a previous show and the colors don't match. I'm assuming the old one is very dirty and that's why it looks less saturated. We mopped it with harlequin soap every day, but it might need a more aggressive treatment. I was wondering if anybody here has successfully restored a Marley floor before and how they went about it?
I ran a high school concert tonight where I hung a 3.5m by 2m LED wall on a fly, and used the screen to display images during the music. It went well.
I’m interested in expanding my LED wall inventory to do a bigger screen, but I’m concerned I might start to reach the maximum weight for a fly system. I figure the wall I hung today was about 400 lbs. It was a lot of counterweight.
Anyone loading in larger LED walls for theater? How are you doing the rigging? Truss mounted to structural steel in the fly space, motor driven chain hosts? Floor mounted? Thanks in advance.
So I fucked up at work tonight. Had a touring show in that wasn't bringing their own power distro. Small lighting floor package, backline, control was all tied, using house PA, overhead lx, and power.
Got asked for 13A drops to DSL, DSR, and USC. Put out cable reels to the down stage drops and a 16A distro with a 50M reel (mostly wound) to the up stage drop without checking what would be getting plugged into each one and leaving cable reels partially wound expecting them to be used for backline, iPad chargers, audio gear, etc which is what we usually use them for in house.
Half way into the second act half the lx floor package dies along with backline and one of the Dante stage boxes. Troubleshooting ensues, the stage box is gotten back online so the show could continue and the issue got investigated further. Found about 2/3 of the lx floor package (4 medium led moving spots, led blinders and some led pars), backline, and the stage box (~12A total load) had been plugged into one of the mostly wound reels and the thermal cutout had tripped. As soon as the issue was found I got another distro out and we split the lighting load across the 2 and the rest of the show went off without a hitch.
Learning point for me: ask what's being plugged in when providing power and plan accordingly.
Learning point for touring techs: specify how much draw is expected on each circuit (or total expected draw per drop) when asking for 13A drops.
I'm happy to put my hand up and say I messed up, said as much to everyone after the show. Noticed 2 of the touring crew having a chat as load out was starting and one went off taking photos of all the extension leads I had put out and all the wall sockets that were in use. I get doing a bit of ass covering in case the incident gets inflated by bosses down the line but to be documenting everything as if expecting an insurance claim feels a bit out of place and kind of put me on guard a bit for the rest of the evening. The near miss is not a reportable incident under RIDDOR (UK based, I'm the tech manager for the venue and have the shiny IOSHH certificate to go with it) as no fire or equipment damage occurred but I'll be doing a brief write up in the morning to ass cover just in case.
Ref: Electrical incidents causing explosion or fire (paragraph 4) in General incidents at all workplaces on the HSE page of reportable dangerous occurrences
Anyway, I guess my point is A:don't make the same mistake I did kids, B:has anyone else made a similar mistake?, C:would other people have been documenting stuff in a similar way following something like this? Am I being too sensitive or is it fair to have my back up about it?
Stay safe out there.
Edit to add: I'm UK based, in this context 13A refers to the "normal" UK power plug/socket combo specified in BS546 (iirc) rated for 13A load per connector and 16A refers to the 16A/240V Ceeform industrial power connector, commonly used as a "one step up" from 13A plugs for power distro, rated for 16A/connector. Usually in the UK, 13A wall sockets are on a ring main rated for around 32A distributed across all sockets, sometimes they are done as a spur rated for 16A per circuit.
Non-Profit theatre producer wants to show movies and not charge admission, as a sort of community-building thing. I know a lot of parks & rec departments do free "movies in the park" style events. I'm wondering what the legality/licensing of this is.
I feel like the producer of such a free event needs to get special arrangements with the film distributors - they can't just pop a DVD in and play it on a big screen. Does anyone have experience working with an agency on getting such permission? Any recommendations on who to contact?
Sterilite stopped making those rectangular baskets, & my show has no masking (don’t get me started) so I need a dark colored basket which is convenient to carry. We have some from Walmart, but the sides are flexible & pretty annoying to carry.
Soooo... I literally just got offered to design and operate audio for a music theatre school's run Into the Woods Junior.
What am I in for mixing wise? It'll just be vocals, no band for this one. I feel like it's potentially going to be a challenging one?
I usually mix straight theatre shows, small bans, and do alot of other things related to theatre (I'm SM/PMing a pro show right now). But rarely do musical theatre (do I have some limited experience in the pro musical world too!).
P.s. Apologies if my replies don't make much sense yet! I just opend a show/finished tech week today. So I probably should sleep...
I've recently become a House Head Electrician at a theater where touring Broadway shows will be coming through. I'm pretty young and new to the industry, and I still have A LOT to learn. However, many of my supervisors and fellow union members have generally been very supportive of me in my new position. I'm very eager to learn and am open to any feedback I can get, but as prepared as I try to be, I can't yet anticipate everything needed of me for incoming shows.
I'm especially nervous for Broadway tours to come here, as I'll be in charge of a handful of people who likely know much more than I do, and I may not be able to provide all the information a touring crew might need from me.
So, to touring electricians: What are some tips for making a load in/out and show run as easy as possible for everyone involved? What are some things I should make sure to know beforehand to be more prepared?
No feedback is too basic: I'm open to learning anything and everything!
Does anyone know of a connector to take an 8 pin female amp connector and turn it into a dmx
Hi techies! I’m a theatre teacher and director a bit out of my depth dealing with a piece of equipment. I’ve inherited a few pieces of DJ equipment and am trying to program a few instruments for a showcase next week. Does anyone recognize this DMX Operator from Elation? Any advice is appreciated!
I am working on an EOS ion XE board and I am attempting to patch a Blizzard MystACL Z moving light. I can gain basic functionality of the light like tilt and intensity and color changing. I am in 46 channel p map mode but I cannot gain control over the individual pixels. I talked to a blizzard rep and he said that I may need to edit the profile of the fixture to get it to cooperate, but he was not familiar with EOS boards and could not help further. So I made a copy of the fixture profile and I started to edit the parameters at the individual DMX channels control to match the ones listed in the manual but I'm not having any luck. Any edits that I make to the profile just seem to not be sending signal for that command to the light. I also tried controlling the individual cells in the command line and that didn't work either. What am I doing wrong?
Hey all,
I'm working with an etc express board and trying to reset the patch to get some dimmers to stop lighting together on the same channel. Obviously I'm a noob and learning as I go. Anyone know why the patch looks like this ? Why are there so many dimmers attached to each channel?
Any help is appreciated!
got offered a pm job for the aluminum show... seems like they have been touring for awhile. anyone got any idea what it's like working for the company? thanks!
I'm planning on getting a big spool of DMX cable for a rewire, but I'm not sure where the best place would be to order bulk male and female connectors. Whats a good price? I'd prefer Neutrik but if it's quality I don't really care about the brand
Hi friends, we have 14 Colorado 1-quad tour fixtures that are now unrepairable, and I have a local guy willing to frankenstein multiple busted ones into working fixtures. Does anyone have some in the repair pile I can buy? We don't have the money to replace them but I have some money to repair what I have.
Hey Everyone,
We are doing a production of guys and dolls and for the sewer we have made 4 independent arches, the tallest being 8'x12'. These pieces are moved on an off and are currently on 2 separate pieces of ply. The issue im running into is the tallest arch is top heavy and wants to lean backwards and tip. Does anybody have an idea or way to counter balance the weight so the piece wont lean so much. I have 5' 2x4 up the sides to give it stability. TYIA
Good day all, we're currently working on our lighting for our next show and we're going to utilize LED lights with a pixel controller. We do have the correct equipment (i.e. power supply, dmx decoder, pixel controller and LED strip) and are encountering an odd output. We have power to the pixel controller, but when we connect the LED strip only certain lights illuminate. It is a random section on the strip that illuminates each time we re-connect the strip. I've double checked the connections to ensure the contacts are firm and there aren't any shorts. Is this a data issue that''s causing this, or something else I'm missing? (I'll need to get pictures later today to add to the post)
I am currently co-developing a novel hoist and looking to achieve BGV-C1 compliance. Before purchasing the standard, I wanted to make sure that what I need is there to some substativie degree and that it doesn't simple point to several other standards. I have been in entertainment and entertainment engineering for over 25 years, and have done audits on winches and hoists and stage lifts among other pieces of our craft. However, I can't find enough on BGV-C1 to know if it has some clear direction on the 10:1 safety factor as it applies to components of an assembly with a proper HRA already at 90%. The SWR will be 10:1 or greater, but for shafts does it need to be 10:1 to ultimate stress for BGV-C1 or yield? Does the safety factor for fatigue have to be 1:1 simply to show it does not fatigue, or is a 5:1, 10:1 SF required by the BGV-C1 standard? Thanks for any input on this. I may pull the trigger today on purchasing the standard, but the ANSI/EN/ESTA standards cover a lot of this ground. I am also reviewing EN-17206-2020 and seeing what will be needed to compete with other BGV-C1 compliant/certified hoists. Thank you in advance for any tips or information you might share. I am also looking forward to sharing my 25-plus-years of experience with the group!
Hi!
Has anyone had problems with air dmx A1 lately? Mine doesnt want to co-operate with me any more.
