🪡 Cherish this art with delight, the mastery of tatting, a wondrous sight. For these intricacies, a story is told, where shuttle lace craft, we forever hold.

I bought a pattern from etsy (thekimandI) It does need stiffening. But I am quite happy with how it turned out.
I did find adding beads difficult to work with as they kept slipping down whilst working. Any tips and tricks?
My friend is doing a capstone project on the Importance of Fiber Arts to Female Socialization in Patriarchal Societies. She is looking to gather the data on the 21st century fiber artists to see how current fiber artists are viewed and view themselves.
Please, spread this Google Form to Anybody you know that is currently or was previously involved with textile arts, from your sister who makes subversive cross stitch to your great grandpa who took up knitting when he served in the Marines

I am left-handed and tat and just discovered that Moonlit (Handy Hands) makes left-handed shuttles with hooks. There are 4 different colors (on the Handy Hands website). 1. Lt. Ocean Blue SHH4212. 2. Sparkle Blue SHH4214. 3. Sparkle Pink SHH4213. 4. Sparkle Pearls SHH4215. These shuttles are very inexpensive, plastic, and nice to use.
I've been searching through the Antique Pattern Library for a very specific edging pattern I want to use -- and tonight I found it! (https://www.antiquepatternlibrary.org/pub/PDF/Collingbournes11TattingMaltese.pdf if you're curious) Unfortunately, it appears in what looks to be just an advertisement, with no actual pattern. I've tried my hand at guessing at the pattern myself, but I'm too much of a beginner and my ratios are definitely off. If anyone in here has some time to spare and might be able to take a guess at the pattern, that would be amazing ♥️ I can read bare-bones patterns just fine. Hope everyone's having a nice day!
I found a tatting book in an antique book shop last weekend and decided I wanted to jump in at the deep end and make a detachable collar from a modified doily pattern I found in it. It’s far from perfect, but I’m having so much fun and learning loads :) one half done!
I am new to tatting and have no idea what is expected from the instructions "R 12+12 (to long p of 1st r)". Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
For whatever reason, I am unable to link the pattern without my post getting removed, but this is what the doily and instructions look like on the site

I have been using just the cheap plastic shuttles. I got a dreamlit one but wasn’t a fan. I keep seeing beautiful wooden ones. I have just been decorating my little plastic ones so far
My question is -are wooden ones easy to use
-has anyone ever made their own shuttles and how? I would love to make my own somehow, the only thing I can think of is to hand carve one?
it's as the title says, I started learning yesterday and I'm having no problems with it other than my hand thread getting so small its unworkable the issue is that i can't seem to find people that had this issue? idk maybe I'm just that bad at holding the thread lol I would love some advice
edit: i figured it out!! ty
I'm wanting to make some gifts for some queer friends of mine, but am having trouble figuring out the best matches for pride flag colors. Unfortunately the only Lizbeth threads I already own are the wrong colors, I don't entirely trust the screen colors, and buying samples would add up quick. Does anyone happen to have Lizbeth color recommendations for pride projects?
Specifically right now I'm looking for pride flag colors for: bisexual, trans, asexual, and gender queer. The inclusive rainbow is also a possibility but lower priority, and I'm happy to hear about other flag color-matching in case I make new friends (or another friend comes out) in the future. Thanks in advance!
I made 10s of chains and tried to pull them closed, but every time i cant seem to get it right… I make sure the knot is transfered/flipped, but still it seems to be stuck. I am totally new to tatting so maybe i missed something? Pls help!
Hi fellow tatting enthusiasts. Could you please recommend US accessible glues to use on your ends on finished works? So far I found one from Clover, but it is not easily accessible. Thank you in advance.
What is your favorite shuttle tatting book? Why? It would be great to hear from experienced tatters about their favorite books!
When i have a pattern like this, which way shoul i start the rings. Clokwise or counterclok wise. Im new to tatting and have only worked on round patterns. Thanks
Does anyone have any tips on closing very small rings neatly? I'm doing some snowflake patterns and they have these wee fiddly rings which are a pain to close up neatly. They always seem to end up a bit gappy at the bottom. Any tips/hints would be much appreciated.
This is “Small Cross” from Mary Konior’s Tatting with Visual Patterns book, except I modified it to be a square and not a cross. Made with DMC Babylo 10. It has 2 rounds of tatting and I haven’t woven in the ends or blocked it yet but I’m just so happy with it. I want to make a bunch of these and use them as cutout inserts on sleeves, trying to figure out how to do this.
Hi All! I found this bunny and flower pattern from August 1,1986 Workbasket Magazine while perusing the Internet Archive Magazine Rack. Maybe someone would be interested in trying it for a Spring theme? Cheers!
First try went really well I think! Simple yet cute. I have a lot to learn and training myself is a bit tough but I’m excited on this new journey!
have FINALLY finished this magic square and am ready to start the next one; how should i attach it? make it and then stitch it on? make it and add it along the seam?
Clover? flower? Idk, practice. it's practice.
