El Pic Lizard Juice

Just found a photo from a night out in El Pic in Camberley circa 2012. They had this jar of Lizards in some alcohol that we all did shots from and it’s an abiding memory of that party.

A) does anyone else remember the lizard juice? / does anyone have any additional info B) what alcohol was in there? C) where can I get some 😂

Driving lessons

Hi, looking for instructor recommendations. I heard best ones don't advertise because they get pupils by word of mouth. Who did you practice with? Why would you recommend them?

I'm new here so don't know much about the place yet.

Guildford area please

Driving to Guildford Station during rush hour

I’m thinking of relocating to Guildford and work in Victoria, so weighing up options for commute.

For a few reasons south of Guildford is looking like an option, but with a c.1hr journey I’d like to be 10mins from Guildford (or Godalming) Station.

Driving obviously opens up Shalford, Bramley etc. but I hear traffic can be a mare.

How bad is the drive at around 0800? Waze is telling me 10-12 mins, realistic or wishful thinking?

And parking…?

Men’s Barber Reccomendations

Hi, I’m in my mid 20s and have had the same boring hair cut for pretty much all of my life.

I would like to mix it up but don’t know where to begin. I’ve seen haircuts I like but don’t know if it would suit my face shape/hair type.

I’ve also had no loyalty over the year to barbers 💈

I’m looking for recommendations for a barber who would be able to tell me what hair styles would suit me & could offer suggestions. Ideally from people who have been in a similar situation and have found a barber to be helpful.

Cheers

Thames / Long Ditton or Carshalton?

Hi all,

We are a family of 4 (2 under 5) looking to move further out in London.

Have narrowed down the search to Thames / Long Ditton or Carshalton - both equally good for commutes, and both seem to have good state school options.

In Thames / Long Ditton we could afford e.g. a 3 bed terraced. In Carshalton our money would go further, e.g. a 4 bed semi.

Whilst Carshalton is nice, it seems like there is more to the surrounding area of Thames / Long Ditton, with the proximity to Bushy Park, Surbiton & Kingston (e.g. compared to Sutton).

The question is whether to go with the lesser house in the nicer area - is it that much of a better location to live?

Any thoughts welcome from those who know the areas! Thanks

Any nice pubs to work from with good WiFi?

Everyone in cities is enjoying the coffee shops, but what about pubs in the Woking/Guildford/Knaphill area?

Would love to get out of the routine and also have a colleague nearby, not too keen on a sterilised co-working space. Happy to give money to a pub for coffees etc. and lunch however

Walton/Moseley/Esher or anywhere else?

Hi all,

We are a family of 4 (2 under 5) looking potentially to move back into the inside of the M25. We currently live in Brighton but looking to cut down the commute and generally miss being within a short train ride of central London. Husband drives to studios near Heathrow for work and I would need a quick train ride into central London.

Does anyone have any recommendations on areas? We like a high street with coffee shops etc. a bit of green for the kids to ride their bikes and a bit of a local buzz.

Would also like to be near good primary and secondary state schools as we would ideally not want to move again. Have a budget of up to £700k ish and arent too picky with houses.

Any recommendations welcome! Thanks

Looking for date ideas in east Surrey

I haven't lived in Surrey for very long. My town has absolutely nothing to do except for an Escape Room. I'm looking for cute date ideas in the surrounding areas. Let's say in a radius around Gatwick Airport, I'm looking for something within a 30 minute drive.

Vegan friendly restaurants are a big plus. The Drive-In movies at Tulley's Farm was also an idea I had, but apparently they're not doing it at this time of the year.

Not looking for anything too outdoorsy as I think the weather is going to be rainy this weekend. Also not looking for anything too "active" like axe throwing or mini golf. Just looking for a nice, cute afternoon or evening with my girlfriend!

Thanks in advance!

Notary help in Knaphill

Hello. My mother, a South African, is currently in Knaphill, Woking for the next 2 weeks. She urgently needs a document notarised. I'm hoping someone can help with the following questions:

  1. Can anyone recommend a Notary in thay area?
  2. What cost should be expected?
  3. Do any notaries do house calls and at what cost? (She currently does not have transport)

Thank you and any other advise is welcome.

So different to make new friends here.

Anyone know any activity clubs or any meet ups that are happening in dorking. It’s quite to difficult to make new friends here. Been going places alone now and honestly it’s boring af. Btw I’m 28, M, and Gay from India who just moved to dorking, Surrey last month.

Let me know if anyone is in and around dorking and would like to meet or hangout!

Ps - I mean to write difficult instead of different but my stupid autocorrect had some other plans haha!

Ubers/Cabs on Christmas Day

Hi all,

Looking for people's experiences of getting Ubers on Christmas Day. Need to travel from Wallington to Whytleafe early evening. Have you been able to get an Uber (I understand likely to be on surge pricing) on Christmas Day previously? Or should I just look to book a cab from a mini-cab service? Thanks

Where is both nice & affordable in East Surrey

I’m looking to sell my flat and buy a house in the East Surrey area, ideally a renovation or a house with potential to extend (max budget £400k) - where is a happy medium between affordable & nice?

I’ve looked at Reigate/Nutfield, Guildford & Dorking so far but any suggestions appreciated :)

Area preference. Looking for Opinions

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are currently renting in Kingston, but it’s a bit too pricey for us, so we are looking to move to a more affordable area. We are considering buying a house in Chessington / Caterham, with a budget of around within £430k.

Some context:

  • I work from home, so commute isn’t a big deal for me.
  • My partner needs to travel to London 3 times a week for work, so good transport links are important.
  • We both prefer a quiet and safe area to settle down.

We are exploring both Chessington and Caterham as potential areas and would love to hear any thoughts or any other area recommendations. Thanks in advance.

Area recommendations

My husband and I currently live in Redhill and we're trying to move home but we're finding that the surrounding area doesn't have a lot of houses within our budget (~£475k). The houses that we're seeing are mainly properties that have been lived in by someone who hasn't updated it in over 30 years so would require a lot of work. We have a 1 year old so the idea of living in a construction site with exploring hands fills is with dread. Are there any areas that we should be considering that might be more affordable?

A bit about us: we would like a 3 bed home with a garden ideally. We spend a lot of time in Reigate and love the small town vibe that offers (with good independent coffee shops/pubs, a decent park and lots to do for young families). I work in London so need to be close enough to a commuting train station. My husband works from home so we're trying to get a decent garden where he can have an outdoor office in time. My parents and our friends mainly live locally. My husbands family live along the south coast so a bit further out.

Any suggestions would be grateful, we're starting to lose hope with the property search.

Any advice for renting in Guildford?

Hi folks,

I just got my first grad job, looking to rent in Guildford, I can't really afford to live on my own, so wondering if anyone has thoughts on anything such as nicer areas to live, agents to avoid etc.

I was also wondering about the pros and cons of living in an HMO versus a lodging situation... I'd had bad experiences with HMOs in London before (I feel like it seems to attract a certain kind of especially profiteering landlord) and might appreciate the flexibility of being able to leave at will in lodgings.

I'm also thinking of just commuting from my home on the outskirts of Basingstoke. I'm working in audit, so it's going to be a stressful job though, and being able to walk or bike home from work would be really beneficial.

Living Near Addlestone Train Station, should I be concerned about the noise?

Hello,

I am moving to Addlestone as I will start working at St Peter Hospital. Found a nice house at Pyle Close, but it is almost on the railway line. Should I be worried about the noise? I used to live near a train station in Essex, but it was not that close, and the Greater Anglia trains were new and almost quiet.

Hiking a train or bus ride from Guildford?

Hi everyone! I am looking for hiking recommendations that are relatively accessible via train or bus from Guildford. I hiked Box Hill last week and LOVED it! I also enjoyed walking along the River Way. Are there any other scenic spots around?

Health Centres

Currently looking to switch gym from the Xcel Leisure Centre in Walton to somewhere of higher quality and, ideally, slightly lower footfall so facilities are 'useable' during peak times.

A few friends have recommended David Lloyd and I have also looked at Nuffield Health, but wondered if there were any other facilities within roughly 15-20 minutes drive of Weybridge / Esher that would recommended instead of those two brands?
