Hi, I want to buy the surface laptop 7 13.8in. 16/512 in black, however both microsoft and curry’s (uk based shop) display it as out of stock. Does it often show that it’s out of stock? If so, will it return for the same price or will microsoft discontinue?
Please let me know, I was looking to buy one when I could get my hands on one. Thanks.
My surface book 3 suffered an unfortunate soda spill and is not doing good. The tablet portion is completely fine, but the base portion is refusing to charge itself or onto the tablet portion, none of it's lights are working, and the track pad isn't working. The keyboard is functional though, I'm using it to type this. The secondary nvidia gpu also stopped connecting. Basically the only way my surface is functional is if I disconnect the tablet portion before it dies, charge it up, reconnect, rinse and repeat. Any advice on how to fix this cheaply? Should I try dissasembling and cleaning? How much would I be looking at to send it in for repairs?
Probably a long shot since i didnt get many results on google but does anyone know of any replacement SH2 ear pads with cooling gel, or if cooling gel pads for other headphones can be modded onto them? been using my pair for work for years and I love them but after trying cooling gel on my other headphones I much prefer it
First time flying with my X Plus and it did not disappoint. I started the morning at 100% battery browsing Google News for about an hour, then checked out of the hotel, went to the lobby and had a Google Meet for 30 minutes. Before I headed to the airport, my battery was at 85%.
Once on the plane, the flexibility of the kickstand made positioning the device on the tray table a breeze. I used my pen to edit some raw photos from the trip using Photoshop for about 45 minutes. At this point, the battery dropped to 71%. I still had 4 hours of flying ahead of me.
Then the fun began and I fired up AetherSX2, which is a PS2 emulator made for Arm. I put on my Bluetooth headphones and played the Lord of the Rings game with my wireless controller for about 2 hours and under the best graphic settings and 2K resolution, the battery dropped to 48%.
I then decided to play Spider-Man Remastered (2022) under low graphic settings and 1080p resolution, which gave me a perfectly playable experience of 32-40fps. After playing for about 40 minutes, the battery dropped to 26%. This was the only time the device got really hot.
I spent the remaining hour and a half watching YouTube videos on Edge. By the time I landed, I still had 11%. Brightness was mostly at 25% and power mode was set at Recommended. Overall, I'm perfectly happy with it!
Like the title says - I ordered a new Surface Pro 11 on Black Friday to replace my reliable, but old, Surface Pro 3 (which itself replaced an original Surface Pro I'd had previously). Bought direct from Microsoft, paid for express shipping because I just couldn't wait for my shiny new tablet. I was THRILLED that it was actually delivered just one day later, on Saturday!
Until I opened the box and saw this:
The shoddy protection that was given by the box wasn't NEARLY enough - the screen was absolutely shattered.
I went to the Surface support website, and the automated check-the-boxes guidance told me ANY screen damage falls "out of warranty", and would cost hundreds of dollars to have Microsoft fix or replace it. There was no option to talk to a real person, or to indicate that it was damaged in transit. At this point, I was pretty pissed, but thankfully I found a guy on the Microsoft support forum who had posted instructions on how to get live help. Thankfully, I was able to initiate the return process, and since I'm nothing if not a loyal customer, I decided to order a replacement at the same time.
Fast forward to today - my replacement finally arrived. On opening the cardboard box and seeing the way it was shipped, I knew what I was about to find:
Take a look at the corner of that box and tell me you wouldn't be feeling the same sinking feeling.
Once more, I opened the box just to make sure, and...
I can only laugh so I don't cry. This one was somehow damaged EVEN WORSE than the first one! The aluminum corner is literally bent! AND I managed to slash my thumb on either the broken aluminum or the shards of glass this time, so that's good too.
I'm about to go to Surface support to start my real battle, but I wanted to post this just to warn anyone against purchasing a new Surface Pro 11 direct from Microsoft - I can't imagine ANY device surviving its shipping journey packed like this, just rawdoggin a cross country journey in a massive cardboard box.
If anyone from Microsoft scrolls through this sub, just know that I am in awe of your ability to make a decade-long Surface Pro loyalist swear off ever buying one again.
I have been looking at many window surface models and can’t seem to decide which one will be best. All I need it for is word, PowerPoint and surfing the web. I’m after something with a reasonable battery life and nothing slow. Was looking at an 8/9 but out of my budget.
At the moment I think I want the surface pro 7 + with 256 GB Core i5 1135G7 SSD 8GB RAM Will this last a good 3 years ?
Which model would be best for what I need Thank you for any help
Hey everyone, I've been having trouble with my laptop that started when I needed to download an update to my Sims 4 game. Previously, I had checked my storage just two days before and I had 20 GB left. Today, I am now down to 699 MB, and I have no idea how or why. I've deleted so many applications and files and the amount of space available continues to decrease immensely. My computer scans find no viruses or malware.
I tried to update my laptop, and it barely downloaded and then gave up. It said the update "failed". I am extremely frustrated because I have been scouring the Internet for answers, but I delete the things they say to delete, and the amount keeps going down! It's driving me crazy because I can't even play my sims game without updating it and it's all I want to play.
If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know. I will answer any questions that may help figure out what the culprit is.
Also, I did previously have bluestacks emulator installed but after countless or tries I have deleted all except one file of it that it won't let me delete. Even though it is *technically* not a virus, it did act like one but it's traces are pretty much gone now.
I want to upgrad a Surface Pro 11 to 2TB. What is currently the best choice for an SSD with the fewest problems? Mabe the Crucial P310 SSD 2TB, M.2 2230 / M-Key / PCIe 4.0 x4 (CT2000P310SSD2) because of NVMe 2.0 and high read/write speed?
Hi, I'm using the Go charger and it only works when it's off. When I turn on the surface and plug it in, the charger LED turns off after a few seconds
Even with the upgraded Snapdragon X CPU, my laptop still can't have a Chrome tab open and scroll on Discord at the same time. Is this normal?
Mouse owners, could you share how yours glides? I ordered the red/rust-colored one. The front part seems to scrape against the surface. It feels and sounds like it's not gliding smoothly. The back part slide fine. This happens on any surface. Other mice glide without any issues. I bought it online, so I'm not sure if it's defective or not. I went to Best Buy, but they only had them behind glass, so I couldn't check.
Is there a list published somewhere? I keep hearing many of the SSDs that are supposed to be compatible are unstable.
Is there any downside to a 2TB one over a 1TB one?
Has anybody tried the WD_BLACK SN770M NVMe SSD - 2TB or the 1TB version in the SP9 recently?
What's your experience with it? Speed? Stability?
Hello, my need for a laptop is to run multiple virtual machines, do light graphics, do mixed IT tasks because I am an IT helpdesk. I am looking to buying a used surface laptop 4 with i7 1165G7, 32GB ram, 1tb configuration. However, when I consulted, with this configuration on think pad or DELL XPS, it is more expensive than the Surface laptop 4 that I intend to buy. My hypothesis is that there is something wrong with the surface laptop, so the new price is significantly cheaper (comparing the difference of about $200 - used machine) so it is cheaper like that. Can you tell me if this SF Laptop 4 configuration has any disadvantages or errors? I need your opinion. Sincerely, thank you.
In the past few days, I have noticed a strange behavior with my pen. The inking starts before I even touch the screen. As I approach the screen first, I just see the cursor, but once I touch down and start inking, I need to move the tip of the pen away from the screen more than half a centimeter (0.20 in) to stop inking; otherwise, thin lines are drawn on the page.
I've checked the surface app for a way to re-calibrate, the only thing I found was the pen pressure setting, but the only thing that changes is how thick the line draws not if it is recognized when the pen is lifted.
Do you have any other ideas on how to reset the distance to the screen sensitivity?
Surfaces with Marvell AVASTAR WiFi running Windows 10 might not be using the latest driver due to a file lacking an explicit file extension in the Windows Update version of the driver.
If you've a networking problem with this adapter (device ID 2B38) and you're seeing driver revision 15.68.17018.116 from 2020 you can download 15.68.17022.122 from 2021 by searching "marvell avastar ac" in he Windows update catalogue.
If you unpack the cabinet file under Windows 10, and with the option to show file extensions enabled, you'll see the inf file 'mrvlpcie8897' has no file extension. Under Windows 11 this is auto-corrected by the system but under Windows 10 you must manually add '.inf' to the filename for Windows to recognise the driver as valid.
Unpacked to a folder, edited and manually updated through the "Have Disk" option, this solved a problem for me where a SP4 would constantly cause dnsmasq on a router to restart leading to delayed DNS lookups for all devices on the network (SP6 running Windows 11 with same network adapter but current driver had no issues).
Final thought; for the workaround of automagically adding missing file extensions to have been implemented in W11 suggests there may be more drivers with missing file extensions in the update catalogue. For W10, when solving driver issues always do a manual search of the catalogue to check the current version number and never rely solely on automatic update.
Can anyone help with, telling difference/value between the different 1TB, 15" surface laptop models? Is there a comparison table of models with those fundamental requirements: 15" & 1TB SSD?
Hi everyone,
Over the past few days, I’ve been experiencing an annoying issue with my Surface Laptop Studio 2. The trackpad occasionally stutters and freezes, making it difficult to use. It’s hard to capture the problem on video (and even harder to explain), but I’ve attached a clip to try and show what’s happening. Unfortunately, I hope it’s obvious enough on video.
I’ve already tried complete reinstalls using recovery images and even tested different versions of Windows, using a bootable USB, but the problem persists. It’s consistent enough to be frustrating, and I’m starting to wonder if it might be a hardware issue. I’m at my wit’s end trying to figure this out 😫
Has anyone else encountered something like this on their Surface Laptop Studio 2? Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼
First time posting to reddit and sure hoping I'm doing this right. The issue I've been dealing with might be a little hard to explain, but I'll do my best.
So my current laptop is a Surface Pro 6, which I've had since mid 2019. I use it for gaming, discord, and drawing. Since last Monday, I've been having an issue where my laptop just randomly shuts off. When this first happened I was in a bit of a panic by how sudden it was, especially since I was in the middle of a discord call. I'm certain it didn't fall asleep or anything like that, especially since in order to get it to turn back on/reboot I had to hold the power button for a couple seconds. When it booted back up, I saw my battery was depleted when I'm pretty sure it was at 100% before shutting off.
I had to remove and unplug the charging cord a few times for it to fill back up, but it seemed okayish after that. By 'okay' I mean it's still functioning, but sometimes when it falls asleep or I close my laptop, it goes to a black screen with the Windows logo and the little loading icon.
My laptop randomly shutting off occurred two more times the following Thursday and then just this past Sunday. I'm wondering if anyone might have any idea of what's happening, personally I think it could be something internal with the hardware-- like the battery might need to be replaced? For sure thinking to call my local computer shop and see if they could take a look at it anytime soon.
So I got a asus rog flow, I want to adjust the pressure of the surface pro pen but it doesnt show up on the surface app. Is it even possible to do it on rog flow? I use windows 11 btw
Needing some help, pls. I own a Pro 4 and months ago, before turning off completely it started running OS updates. At the time it ran a Windows 10. The updates seemed to have concluded just fine, however the device wouldn’t ever reach the login screen again… it would boot up, the squared MS logo would appear momentarily just before the screen going full black and freeze there. I took it to a repair shop and the technician told me the BIOS was not updating. He claimed to have tried several times, including removing the BIOS chip, resetting in a machine and welding it back on, to no avail.
Any ideas?!
Thanks!!
got a surface pro for college and got a third party keyboard and was working great until recently nothing types only the E key opens up the 3 little dots top right of chrome and space bar opens up a little menu, whenever I run the surface diagnostic tool it starts to type but I can’t type A S D F J K L, G and H work just fine. I’ve tried looking everywhere for help but no one has seemed to have the same issue. Really need to get homework done tonight.
Hey oeople. Been using Surface Book 2 for a couole of years and is still a great thijg to own. I have been looking for am external monitor for work (Office, excell, tabs, and some film/tv... I dont have a Dock so I guess usbc to usbc or usbc to dp cables are option. Anyone has a reccomendation for a monitor? Do I need 4K, does it need to be only 60hz, can I get 2k monitor etc? Whats everyone using? :)
I am trying to decide between and surface pro and the surface laptop. My Mac recently pooped itself and up until now I have always had a Mac, but have had the worst luck with them (hence why I’m switching over). However, my hesitance with the pro is that I own an iPad and don’t know if having another tablet-like device would be too similar/redundant or if I’m just stuck on the idea of a “laptop” being that traditional shape/feel.
My main use for it would be:
Day to day online browsing Spreadsheets/data for work Recreational video and photo editing (as a hobby)
It would also be cool if I could play Dress to Impress on it, but that’s not as important. I’m kind of leaning more towards the surface laptop, but want to be sure it’s what my best fit would be. How long have you had your device and how reliable is it long-term?
Dont get me wrong i absolutely love my surface the only thing i dont like is that the marketing has some seriously small print that no one sees when it comes to their ai feature IT REQUIRES INTERNET its not a self sufficient ai it requires the internet to even use copilot i mean so why market something that has access to ai only over the internet as "use ai on the go"
Hey all, I just got my SP11 OLED over the weekend and I have some concerns on how the charging works for the peripherals. I tried researching this but couldn't find a definitive answer. Should the Flex keyboard and pen be charging when connected? I have both connected right now and the keyboard is at 45% and the pen is 92%. Neither are charging. I've tried hard resetting both the SP11 and they keyboard with no luck. Is this normal behavior?
I know it's been mentioned by others before but I haven't seen much talk about it in regards to physical machines, moreso ARM virtual machines.
I've tried several times to upgrade my copy of Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro via a product key that is verified for Windows Pro version. However, it usually (and quickly) says that my key is not valid for use.
So, it brings up one big question. Has anyone been able to do this successfully, and if so, how did you do it? I know there are command line options for installing / activating keys if need be, so if that worked for you, it's not a big deal to go that route.
Thanks!
Hello community,
I recently aquired the new Surface Pro 11 and today the keyboard including the slim pen 2 arrived. Happy to try it I started writing in scrble, my go to app, and noticed something strange when highlighting. As soon as I tried taking a screen shot the problem was not visible anymore (only for screenshoting). The same happens when exporting as pdf.
The problem is also happening in Inkodo. In OneNotes I only see this strange things as long as I am continiung stroking as soon as I lift the pen from the screen it looks normal.
Before I was using scrble with me Surface Pro 7 and the old Pen.
Has anyone an idea what's happening? Could this be ARM on Windows related?
I don't seem to find anything wrong with the surface itself (or the screen ) so far. It's the OLED-screen if that is important.
Hoping, someone has an idea. Thanks in advance.
