I have a question for people who have used both Surface Pro 9 5G (the ARM one) and Surface Pro 11. I could only find posts about switching from the Intel version, but I'm interested in a comparison with the ARM one. Did your battery life change significantly? According to Notebook check in wifi test with full brightness you get only 10% increase (603 vs 660 minutes), but these are only tests, and real mixed usage may differ from the tests significantly, so that is why I would like to hear for real people's experience.
Getting a new device for work and personal.. Most of the usage is having 30 tabs of chrome open and doing heavy Excel work. I've had a surface pro 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 over the years. I've really never used it as a tablet or used the pen for anything. The main reason I've liked them is that they are super super thin, the heat doesn't come out from the bottom, the screen resolution and speakers have always been great. The price difference is a factor but isn't the biggest.
Really debating getting a Surface Laptop 7 since I don't really take advantage of the Surface Pro tablet features but.... feels like the advantages I've listed (thinness, heat, screen) really are still better with the Surface Pro.
Anyone been in a similar indecisive boat?
My biggest concern is heating issue I have with windows laptop or annoying fan noise. I’ll be using the laptop only for data analysis stuff like sql server management and power bi desktop.
So therefore I wonder if Microsoft release lunar lake version for laptop will not have heat issue? I know it’s impossible to know but if you could guess how good Microsoft cooling system is and if lunar lake make it worse or better?
Please i am struggling to find what language or setting in keyboard so that the symbols will work (@ % # ...)
I've been tossing up buying a surface since they were released. Currently I have a M1 MacBook Air, which I really like. However, looking for something which is good to use as a tablet in front of tv, travelling etc, but when I do need a actual laptop I still have an OS with excel and other work applications. In many ways I want an iPad, as I like the optimised apps like Netflix etc, and touch enabled stuff, but not really willing to have a device which is really quite limited in functionality otherwise.
I guess my question is...is the surface good enough as a tablet? do I really need the pen or can it be used like an iPad?
Hello everyone, I have a massive issue with my Surface Pro 9 (i5, 16gb of ram, 256g storage)
For as long as I can remember, my SP9 has always had this terrible battery life. On a good run, it can last 5 hours, but even that is super inconsistent.
I have all the reccomended settings enabled, battery saver is on, maximum processor state is at 25%, and I am using edge in efficiency mode.
I tried programs like Energy star X, which didn't really affect my performance all that much.
Can someone please tell me if I am doing anything wrong or if there is anything more I can do to maximize the battery life of my surface?
My battery health is at 85%, so that is something to take into account.
TLDR: is it feasible to use a Surface for software development (WSL, docker) and as a tablet for reading?
I've always had a nice laptop for personal work, along with software development self-study (WSL, docker, etc.), along with a large android tablet for reading large format books and pdfs. I'd rather just have one.
Is this practical? Has anyone done anything like this? (e.g., maybe the battery is so awful there's no way to get it to work as a tablet for a reasonable amount of time, or the cpu or whatever is so anemic it would die if you tried to run wsl+docker+sql sever).
I'm happy to wait until next year for the 10 or whatever to come out.
Hi,
My Microsoft Surface Studio Laptop doesnt charge all of a sudden from the main charging port.
Ive tried with two different chargers, and both light up.
USB-C charging is working.
Ive tried to clean the port, but didnt work.
Software is up to date.
Tried to restart.
Laptop hasnt been dropped since it last worked.
Downloaded a battery report, but dont know what to look for, and cant attach it with the post.
Anyone tried this before, or have a possible solution?
Thank you
Is it possible to use the Surface Book 1 with Windows 11?
Hi all, I recently bought a Surface Pro 11 and am deciding on which keyboard to buy (with pen).
Is the only difference between the Keyboard for the 11 and the Keyboard for the X/9/8 only the Copilot key? Are there any other subtle differences?
I ask this because one is 300€ and the other is 210€ (both with pen).
Here are the links for clarity:
Keyboard 11: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/surface-pro-keyboard-with-slim-pen/93wd5vjtr38g
Keyboard 10/9/8: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/surface-pro-signature-keyboard-with-slim-pen/8xx8r5ws9db3
Thanks in advance!
fits well, just FYI in case you need to replace the tip for classroom pen 1
Got my SP10 5G today.
Imaged my old laptop SSD with W11 22H2 to the SP10 SSD all good; however some drivers are not available. I think these are for the PCI bus and APCI hardware.
I downloaded the 877MB sized .MSI file to this device from the MS site and which I expected to have all of the SP10 drivers for.
I extracted the MSI into a folder, went into Device Manager and went to update all of the missing drivers, EXCEPT for the PCI bus and APCI hardware. I get a “no driver found” message. Also checked W11 Update. No luck.
Any ideas on where I can get the individual .cat and .inf drivers for the PCI bus and APCI devices to correct this missing driver issue?
Lastly, for DELL and HP machinesI can download a single file with all drivers but also downloads each specific file/driver one at a time. Seems like MS does not have this ability.
It's so damn slow it's driving me crazy; the brightness and volume buttons increase/decrease little by little and it sucks. anything I can do about it? I don't want to use gestures. I want to adjust the increment percentage.
Considering upgrading from a surface pro 6 with i7, 16gb ram and 512gb storge to surface pro 11 with 16gb ram and 256gb storage with the Snapdragon X Processor.
I'm a totally blind user, and I mainly use my system for web surfing email reading epub audiobooks youtube basic documents creation
currently with the nvda screen reader running having about 4 to 5 programs open the system slows to a crawl and the fan kicks up.
so not sure if its worth the update if the system can't keep up with Multiple applications running at one time.
my mac book air m1 8gb ram, doesn't seem to slow down too much doing Similar tasks.
a program for the deafblind is Going to purchase the newer machine and would have to return my macbook air M one that they purchased for me in two thousand twenty.
I scored a Surface Book - 1TB i7 16GB with GPU for free from one of those Buy Nothing Facebook groups...is there a USB charger I can use or is the only option the magnetic one?
Unfortunately this looks like it's the 1st gen Surface Book as it doesn't have a USB C port. It was manufactured in 2017 based off the serial.
We've got a Surface Laptop 4 that has some keys that arent working. Is this a potential expensive or lengthy repair? or is this something that a local iphone/tech repair shop should be able to fix?
I know it's a bit older, but I got my Laptop 2 at factory settings a little over a year ago and I love it. The past couple weeks though, I've noticed the charger randomly stops working, or that if I unplug it, then plug it back in, it doesn't start recharging again. Just a bit ago, I was sitting up with it plugged in, and as I moved it to my lap (the cord didn't come out) it stopped charging again.
To get it to charge again, I've been changing the power sources, unplugging the power chord from the power brick, unplugging the power brick from the laptop, turning the laptop itself off and on again (plugged in and not plugged in).
It just seems completely random when it starts charging again except for it only happens when I have connected the laptop back to the charger (meaning it doesn't turn off then on again while still plugged to the charger). I eventually get it going again, but the moment the chord unplugs from the laptop again, I have to repeat the process.
Even when I change the power sources, I've been testing those sources with other devices and they all work fine.
EDIT: All updates are up to date as well. The chord light works as it should: On when charging, off when not.
EDIT2: As of the past hour or so, I cannot get it to charge at all.
Any advice or suggestions?
I found an Excellent condition used Flex Keyboard at Best Buy for $215, versus the $350 brand new price. Is the Flex keyboard worth it? I love my SP11 but want to use it to its fullest capability. Thanks!
Is there any Emulater who supports ARM, becaue BlueStacks is not and i also can´t install the official Emulater from Google and couldnt find one that´s working.
I tried using Mullvad but it doesn't have arm support. Any VPN's that would work on the snapdragon surface pro?
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to reinstall Windows on my Surface Pro 11. I’ve already gone through the disk cleanup process, but now, when I power it on, it boots directly to the BIOS. I prepared an external SSD formatted in FAT32 with the Windows image for the tablet. However, when I connect the SSD, the BIOS does not recognize it as a boot option. Additionally, the Surface’s internal disk is not showing up in the BIOS either.
Here are the steps I’ve taken so far:
Does anyone know how to make the BIOS recognize the external SSD or the internal disk? Could the issue be related to the drive format or a setting in the BIOS? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!
It's fine at 60hz though. How do I fix this? I did a clean install earlier this month and the machine runs smoothly except for some animations bugs that are just a part of the OS. I assume this is one of them but it absolutely drives me crazy.
Hello!
My organization is seeing a trend of camera issues on Surface Laptop 6 Pro for Business machines. The machines are all brand new (handed out in the last month or so).
The primary use of cameras on these devices is Teams, and we had a surge of tickets from users with a recently issued Surface. When troubleshooting on several of the machines it seems like the camera goes in and out, but whenever it goes out it causes the application in use to crash (Teams in a web browser, Teams application, camera application) and the whole device to freeze up for several seconds. I did the usual Surface firmware updates, uninstalled the camera from Dev Mgmt, etc.
Logs/Dev mgmt don't show anything unusual for the device listing.
I am looking to use the MSI firmware full install (grabbed from the support page) next, but thought I would check and see if anyone on here has experienced or seen anything similar.
Thanks in advance.
