Your rather specific subreddit on stenciling and all things related!
Post your cut-out templates, your results and just anything on stencil art. A subbreddit specifically for anything stencil. We love using the word stencil around here. It just rolls off the tongue so nicely. Stencil, stencil, stencil. Stencil.

A music collective in my town that covers famous albums is doing Highway 61 Revisited concert and wanted art for their flyer. (On 24”x 36” watercolor paper, and hand cut from the same kind of paper)

Hello everyone!
I’m new to the world of stenciling and am planning to create a painting with 4 detailed layers (featuring two faces) on a wooden surface, each layer measuring 80 x 80 cm. I plan to paint the stencil using a brush or roller with acrylic paint.
I’ve learned that Mylar is one of the most suitable materials for this type of project, but I’m curious if anyone has suggestions for other materials that might work better.
A couple of questions:
Is Mylar the best material for creating detailed stencils, or are there other recommendations?
If Mylar is recommended, what thickness would be best for detailed stencils?
Can anyone recommend a good European (preferably Dutch) company that offers laser cutting services for stencils?
For inspiration, I’ve been watching this video: https://youtu.be/Kdh0VrhAguc, especially around the 1:13 timestamp, where the layering technique really caught my attention.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and advice!
TIA! :)
What everyone’s best way to prevent bleeding when using a stencil. I have seen that you can use adhesive but if I paint a background and then use a stencil I don’t want the adhesive to ruin the background. Just looking for suggestions and tips!
Hmmmm.
This didn't come out as well as I had hoped. Some of the thin lines didn't hold, and there are spots where the pain soaked through the stencil. Overall I think it came out ok.
Stenciled freezer paper, I think I should have ironed it some more before I started painting. But I lack patience
Hey all, first timer here.
Upcoming is my girlfriend’s birthday (the first since we started dating), and I actually like her. She prefers sentimental gifts, and I was thinking of stencilling a portrait of her (or us), but I am a total noob. Haven’t done this before, only saw friends doing stencils.
Do you think it is possible to purchase the items, watch some How-To videos and manage to make it nice within a very busy one-week’s time frame?
This post is going to be either motivational or demotivating - so, let me know what ya’ll think! I’d appreciate it :D
Bless!
Hi! I’ve got tracing paper and stencil paper, but don’t quite know how to use it. Do I just lay my tracing paper with art, trace it on stencil paper and cut? I’ve never done this before. Thanks.
I never see people post how they deal with island areas of their stencil art. Mostly I expect they handle it with layers, that's what I've done. But this time I'm making a one use stencil for a shirt. So I've used scotch tape to hold island areas in place for now. Later I can use repositionable spray glue to attach the stencil to the fabric. Then I can spend some time removing the tape while the stencil will remain in place. If anyone has any questions or comments or suggestions I would love to hear them.

I'm an expert with the double cut technics what do you think about it ?
I'm a beginner, making patches and such. What material do you guys recommend for stencil making? Preferably something I can reuse/something that won't fall apart while applying the stencil. Sorry if this has been asked to death before.
