This subreddit is for anything pertaining to state parks! There is a subreddit for National parks and I wanted there to be one for state parks as well because they were such a huge part of my childhood and are still a major part of my life.

Right now the only rules are that your post has to have something to do with a State Park.

Please do not post about National Parks! They are great, but should be submitted to /r/nationalparks or /r/nationalpark! Thanks!

Mexico and Australia also have State Parks and Canada has Provincial Parks. Feel free to post about those as well and head over to /r/provincialparks for more!

What things could you post?

  • Do you like kayaking, fishing, hiking, mountain climbing? How about snorkeling, caving, or bird watching? Submit photos or videos that you take of you doing these activities in your favorite State Parks! Or just submit pictures of the park in general.

  • Submit stories about your trip to the state park!

  • Want to know what State parks are near you and hear from someone who has been there? Try asking!

I really want this subreddit to be successful because I believe there are a lot of treasures hidden in State Parks that people in other states do not always know about like they do with National Parks and I want to see and hear about them too!

If you are looking for some awesome places near you to go camping head on over to /r/campingspots for suggestions!

If you want to ask a park ranger some questions head on over to /r/parkrangers to get them answered!

Why would the game warden tell me not to advertise them installing a camera?

Returning to my car after waking the dog, game wardens were installing and concealing a trail camera with moss about 20 ft high in the tree. I greeted them and inquired if it was a trail cam and she confirmed. She then said, “Now don’t go advertising it.” Like why, what’s the point of it?

When I initially arrived, they were a quarter mile up the road, I assume, doing another. They’re pointed at the street. Are state parks filled with cameras?

For me, it kinda defeats the purpose to “get away from it all.” I still enjoyed the walk and certain my puppers did.

Looking For Places Like Hodge’s Gardens, LA

My boyfriend is always talking about Hodge’s Gardens. It was his favorite place to go camping. I’ve never been, but he’s always telling me how much he wishes he could have taken me there before it shut down in 2017, after the major National Park funding revocation. He is distraught that it closed- to the point that he’s talked about buying the property one day if the family that owns it ever decides to sell.

I would love to find somewhere similar for him. He loved the waterfalls, flowers, and being able to get in the water, as well as the isolation of the area. I know no where will be exactly the same, but I really hope to find somewhere similarly magical. Close to Louisiana is preferable, but not 100% necessary.

Thank you in advance.

Likelihood of getting kicked out because of being underage at cherry springs state park.

Me and my friends are all 17 and all have permission from our parents to go camping here. However it states there has to be an adult present. If we just go what’s the likelihood that we actually get kicked out?

Seh-ga-hun-da at Sunrise - Letchworth State Park

Went out trail running early Sunday morning at Letchworth State Park. A lot of closed trails and roads due to the weather conditions, but our recent spring snowstorm left for some beautiful views!

Artist seeking to do promotional/merchandise art for state parks - any advice?

Hey all!

For some context, I am an artist and graphic designer looking to expand my range a bit. I would love to get involved with my local state parks creating artwork for them to use on souvenirs, promotional material, etc.

So my question is, who should I be contacting to inquire about that? The parks in question directly, the tourism board for the county in which they reside, or is it a government-run deal?

The issue with contacting the parks directly is that some of the parks I want to do art for, are not monitored sites. No staff on hand. But they are close enough to the vicinity of nearby towns to be noteworthy tourist spots that the towns themselves may want to promote.

Just curious to see how to go about this, I appreciate any thoughts!

Cabin? NH or ME

Hello everyone. I used to stay at Allegany in NY every year. However I moved and now I’m much closer to ME, NH and even VT.
I was wondering if you can help me find a cabin for me and my family this summer coming. 2 adults, 2 kids. Wife would really like it if they had a bathroom. TIA.
