This subreddit was for the project to provide a "definitive" cut of the Star Wars Prequels inspired by Topher Grace's cut from full HD sources! It died silently, and was set to approved submissions only 6/1/23.
0. Why is the subreddit restricted?
It got no traffic and I wanted to
ensure that it wasn't in a
position to become a spam honeypot.
What the heck was going on here?
This subreddit was created in order to provide a place for the ongoing project which aims to provide an HD re-recut of the Starwars prequels. You can read more about how it all started here
Okay, so who are you?
We are a team of redditors who collectively decided to help try to drive this project forward to completion.

I'm torn between watching Last Turn to the Dark Side, Turn to the Dark Side, or Episode 0 – A Dark Force... Anyone have experience and able to share their opinion of the better cut?
Also, this sub would be a lot more awesome if there were a stickied wiki containing working links to downloads of the recuts... Perhaps bypassing the "no links" rule by linking away from Reddit, so as not to attract the wrong crowd?
Sorry to revive this, but does anyone know where I could possibly watch/get this edit? Would really like to watch it. Have tried to find it with no luck.
I'm trying to track down The Blackened Mantle, but it's not on Youtube and all the Google Drive links I've found seem to also have been taken down. Did the creator ask for that, or was it Google who took it down - and if the latter, would anyone happen to have a version that I could watch?
Can anyone share Turn To The Dark Side or Last Turn To The Dark side? I am looking around and cannot find anything but posts talking about it.
Hi guys,
I've been subscribed to this subreddit since its inception, but I never actually watched the cut!
I figured the COVID-19 quarantine is the perfect time so I PM-ed /u/mrpitifulscott to send me the download link as instructed in the sticky thread. Two weeks later, I still haven't got the reply.
Does anyone else have a link to the download?
Cheers!
EDIT: MrPitiful is alive, he replied to my PM! So, I guess just PM him and be patient! :)
I had it a while back but seem to have deleted it at some point (Why!?!?!?!?). I did a bunch of googling but couldn't find anything that hasn't been pulled already.
But was too shy to ask for a copy of his prequels cut... :)
Edit: Ha, “wedge”!
After working for years on the 1-3 cut I had a crazy idea to try to create a 2 hour movie that focuses on Obi-Wan’s arc entirely from his point of view. Would be a cool challenge.
Would anyone be interested in that?
Is Last Turn To The Dark Side or Fall Of The Jedi Any Good?
ive seen shadows of where it might have been available around the internet but i cant find it anywhere
UPDATE: Please PM me directly with link requests rather than putting them in the comments. You can PM me directly here.
Just in time for Episode VIII, I've updated my prequel cut to fix a few minor items and one major item. By popular demand, the ROTS Count Dooku battle is now in the cut! I had a really hard time making it work originally, but I think I finally got it.
PM me for a direct link OR download the Premiere files and render yourself from GitHub here!
I spent WAY too many hours on this so please please send me your feedback and let me know what you think!!
Dooku Battle Returns
Updated Ending
Initial Release!
I checked all the links from the FAQ's to download but everything seems to be gone....
does anybody have an HD link to a streaming, or direct download of this edit? I can only find a 480 copy out there. PM or post here pls. TY!
Is u/Zantimus still working on it?
Does anyone have the download links to his Fanedits?
Edit: I found it. If anybody wants it PM me.
Edit 2: the link I had no longer works. I recommend going on originaltrilogy.com and messaging Hal 9000 directly.
I've been diving headfirst into the world of Star Wars fanedits lately, and I would love some new recommendations.
What I've watched:
Harmy's Despecialized Editions
The Last Turn to the Dark Side
Adywan's Star Wars Revisited
Blackened Mantle
Star War - The Third Gathers: Backstroke of the West*
The Auralnauts' Star Wars series*
Up next to watch:
The Empire Begins
The Mentor
Mr. Pitiful's Fall of the Jedi
I've found a bunch, but where should I go from here? Are there any other cuts worth my time?
^^^.
^^* ^^I ^^realize ^^that ^^these ^^aren't ^^the ^^typical ^^fanedit, ^^but ^^the ^^Auralnauts ^^could ^^use ^^some ^^more ^^promotion ^^and ^^Backstroke ^^of ^^the ^^West ^^was ^^a ^^pretty ^^fun ^^watch.

Again, props to /u/noodle-flinger for inspiring my changes to the end in 1.1. If you have a chance please watch his edit as well (but watch mine first:)
Summary of Edits 1.1 Updated Ending * Props to /u/noodle-flinger for inspiration
Removed excess dialogue and reactions surrounding padme’s delivery and death
Split Padme’s delivery and transformation into Vader into two separate sequences
Removed Padme naming Leia as to not serve as spoiler for ROTJ when watching in machete order
Added rhythmic fadeouts to simulate Vader’s coming in and out of consciousness during his surgery
Cut directly from Padme’s death to Vader’s rise
Removed Vader’s zombie walk and NOooOOOOooOOoOO
Removed “what do we do with the kids and where do we go now” conversation between Yoda, Obi Wan and Organa
Cut right to “Directed by George Lucas” following Vader, Palpatine, and Tarkin looking over the construction of the Death Star
Updated the initial (non-scrolling) credits to include credits from all 3 movies without split screen.
Add Mr. Pitiful:) to the credits as one of the editors
Moved hopeful delivery of Leia and Luke to mid-credits scene
(an attempt at a humorous take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s habit of post-credit scenes teasing future films) 1.0 Initial Release!
Wanted to focus on the Anakin's arc plus the arc of the fall of the Republic in the background. Anything that didn't move the story forward I cut, while trying to have it make sense for anyone who has never seen Star Wars.
Cut all of Phantom Menace except the Darth Maul fight as a prologue.
Started right from the 2nd assassination of padme to establish Anakin, Obi Wan, and Padme's characters
Cut all of Kamino (Obi Wan explains through exposition)
Cut all references to Padme and Anakin's age difference
Kept a bare minimum of Anakin / Padme on Naboo to establish that they are into each other
Cut all of Anakin & Padme's trip to Tatooine and his mother
Cut all R2 D2 / C3PO slapstick
Cut all Jar Jar
Simplified Geonosis
Cut factory battle Cut monsters from arena Lowered the cheese level on Padme's love declaration. Cut opening battle from III (Obi Wan delivers it through exposition)
Reordered scenes to clarify the fear of losing Padme as Anakin's primary motivation with Palpatine offering his only out and the Jedi not treating him well.
Cut all of the Obi Wan / General Grevious to focus on Anakin just hearing about it, and becoming more resentful he is left out.
Separated Yoda/Palpatine from Obi Wan/Anakin to allow the Y/P to serve as warmup for the OW/A main event
Removed evidence that Obi Wan was on Padme's ship to Mustafar so we don't see Obi Wan until Padme does, our hopes crushed with hers:)
Plus a whole bunch of other small things to make it all work.
Only recut I've ever needed, just checking to see if a HD version is anywhere to be found
It just sounds like a much better way to watch them and I'd like to watch it
Considering you are recutting the prequels, I was curious to see if you liked the newer versions of the OT or the theatrical ones

Hi all, I watched /u/noodle-flinger's cut today and it was great. It inspired me to make a new ending for my cut, that is different from his.
Here are the changes I made:
Removed the happy ending prologue of Luke and Leia being delivered to their new families.
Removed mention of Leia's name as to not spoil the reveal in ROTJ that she is Luke's sister when watching in machete order.
Got rid of Vader's zombie walk an NooOOoOOOOOoOO!
Ended in a super badass cut (imho)
Let me know if I should keep it! If you all like, I'll upload to the github page.
Here is a rendering of the new ending: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BxBqfWxKzHFDYjhIR2VLREhpU28

Star Wars: Fall of the Jedi - Mr Pitiful's Open Source Fan Edit of Episodes I - III
This is one Star Wars fan's passion project, taking the mess of Episodes I-III and editing them into a single, cohesive, and hopefully decent film.
It is also an attempt to show this can be done legally and through open source. This repo includes only the Adobe Premiere project files and reference stills.
To watch the movie, legally owned copies of the source films will need to be added to the project, and then the film can be rendered.
If anyone needs help viewing, send me a private message and I will make sure you can see the film as long as you legally own Episodes I - III.
Download and rendering instructions are here: https://github.com/ScottMonaghan/Star_Wars_Fall_of_the_Jedi.mrpitiful_fan_edit
Let me know what you all think!!
Summary of edits:
Here are the main things I did:
When this sub was originally created, the decision was made to make posting restricted since the sub was only intended to provide updates on Zantanimus' progress of his re-cut. Since then, the effort has evolved into a group project and we are opening the subreddit for unrestricted posting. This will allow users to more easily post up their ideas, Star Wars news, or suggestions on ways we can improve the pre-cut.
We want to thank you again for all the help throughout the community as we keep pressing forward with this project. We'll be providing more updates to the sub and more news on the pre-cut in the coming weeks.
Hey everyone,
I wanted to bring you all up to speed on the current status of the project and where we're going from here. We were fortunate enough to have a few members step up and volunteer to help out on this project. I am currently in communication with those members and we are working out a plan on how to best move the project forward. I will be posting updates on the progress regularly from this point on (hopefully an update every week or two at longest) so keep your eyes open for that.
We are exploring ways to legally perform the cuts and distribute the final version. My goal is to be very transparent with the community about the efforts being put forward, the struggles we will have, and hopefully the community will be able to help fill in some of the gaps we inevitably find we have within this project.
We have a couple of editors who are on the project now and are ready to get going. While we are identifying our next steps, we do know we need some help in a couple of areas:
If you think you can help out with any of these items, or if you would like to join the project team to help out in any way, please post up here or shoot me a PM. I will also be adding some structure to the sub and amending the sidebar soon, so more changes are yet to come.
A big thanks to everyone who has been involved up to this point. I will post again next week with more details on who the project team is, what our next steps are, and I will try to field any other questions you all come up with.
TL/DR: The project is alive and kicking!
TL/DR: We need your help to make this happen. Post up below if you would like to contribute to helping make this project happen. I will consolidate a list of resources we have available to see if we can move forward.
Long Version: So our first attempt to make a plan was put on hold when Zantanimus came back and said he was working on this project. A year has passed since then, and we have no replies from Zantanimus after numerous attempts. At this point, I will be giving this project one last push attempt to see if we can grab a set of volunteers to help move things forward. From the last thread I made about this, I would be more than willing to help out on any items such as communication to the community and general organization. I am formally trained and certified to do such work in my day to day job, and the skills are pretty universally applicable (follow best practices, keep improving your processes, etc.). Specifically I think I can help organize this plan from the ground up.
The way I see our best plan moving forward is as follows:
Identify what resources we have (i.e. this thread)
Identify what specifically needs done to get us from current state to completion
Communicate with resources identified in step 1 to determine availability
This is your checkdown step....if you don't have what you need to finish the project, we need to start searching for people to fill the gaps. If this can't be done, we call the project dead as we lack the resources to complete. If we have all resources identified and are prepared to begin, we move to step 5.
Delegate the work to the project team members as decided in steps 1-4.
Set up weekly or bi-weekly goals that will keep the pace of the project moving appropriately while also presenting manageable milestones from which we can measure our success. These goals need to be communicated out to the project members, and every week (or other week) we need to assess these goals for completion. The idea here isn't that the only way to succeed is to hit your goals 100% of the time. Rather you try to hit your goals and if you don't, you do a quick lessons learned to figure out what failed/how to fix it in the future. These updates can be provided to the community as well so those who aren't directly involved with the project will know about where we stand and can see what is being done.
If we follow these steps and continue to refine our process along the way, I have no doubt we can complete this project in a reasonable time frame. I have assembled a list below of people who had previously identified themselves as willing to help and I have indicated what their specialty would be per their previous response. This list is not all-inclusive but it's a good start. These users were previously active but due to the length of time since the original post, we need to find out if they are still willing to help, as well as continuing to look for more project members who may be able to help us.
/u/SewingLifeAlchemist: certified video editor (but may also make chimeras in his spare time)
/u/handsomerascal: video editor (and generally handsome)
/u/Croutons957: can help with minor edits such as grading/masking/etc (and salad aficionado)
/u/whowantscake: graphic designer (and bakery coordinator)
/u/kennyfiesta: graphic designer with some video and 3d animation background. (Also in charge of margarita Thursdays)
/u/ProphetOfNothing: After Effects artist (and in charge of making sure people aren't trippin' over nothing)
/u/Pseudophobic: Print designer who can design box/cover art (and head of office safety)
/u/Greg-J: interactive designer who can help us update the sub style if needed. (Also fulfills our "Greg" quota)
/u/compute_: professional web designer with sub-reddit CSS background (ironically, does not compute)
We will also need a clean copy of the videos to work with, so anybody who would be willing to help with that would be appreciated as well.
Hey everyone, I want to provide my sincerest apologies in regards to this project. I logged back into my account to see over 40 messages from people asking about the project and felt an immeasurable disturbance in the force.
First things first, am I working on the thing? -Yes I am. Secondly, am I going to actually delegate this as I should have from the beginning and coordinate a team effort so we can get this done in a reasonable timeframe? Absolutely.
The comment made by /u/hepatitisC really made me realize how much everyone has been looking forward to this, and that we should gather at least a concerted effort and a checklist of timecoded areas for different editors to work on.
If I'm 100% honest, my own personal life got in the way of me being able to work on this project. New job, new life happenings, and a podcast that I produce/edit/sound edit/direct/webmaster for had taken primary precedence in my pool of spare time.
What I want to do is clarify some information, before we get the ball officially rolling.
I have full remuxes of the films, with proxies in a lower resolution rendered, and full res intermediates for rendering at the end being rendered on a friend's higher powered (dual xenon) machine over the next couple of days.
I want to first ask what platform all of the editors here are on before I begin designating portions and building a scene by scene editing list. I, myself, edit on Adobe Premiere and was wondering if anyone here would be willing to stay on that platform with me. I don't have the time (or even a legal copy for that matter) to learn Avid if that's what you're used to, but I'd be open to an EDL workflow for scene blocks, if that's what we need to end up doing. If we're going to do a joint project, I'll really need to feign my lack of experience on editing larger projects to someone who has the technical background of setting up a distributed edting project over the internet.
I have a few questions in that regard:
Dropbox for something of this nature? Or is there a better alternative we could use?
Would you prefer to help out, or would you rather I just make a checklist to follow weekly to keep everyone stimulated? (Obviously the former is more likely for everyone, I just figured I'd give the kindness of asking first)
Do we have anyone with a more sound editing attuned background who could focus in (or at least provide some guidance), because after watching through the cut, some of the sound decisions may or may not be able to be remedied and I'd like a more professional opinion here.
Once again, thanks for being supportive and patient- I want to get this going again, I just haven't had the time to break silence. Reddit has truly been on the backburner for me. I'm looking forward to hearing from everyone.
At the advice of /u/hepatitisC, I'd like to make a list of potential replacements for /u/Zantanimus in case he ends up deciding to move on from the project. If you're interested please provide your talents and a sample of your work here in the comments of this thread, and I'll find a way for the community as a whole to vet you. I want to also say that I'd like to give /u/Zantanimus a month to respond just to be totally fair about the whole thing. I hope to hear back from him, and if I do then at least I can provide him with more willing people for help!
