How are the return at Staples in Canada? I want to buy a bluetooth speaker, but I’m scared that if I don’t like it after testing it they will not take it back like Best Buy (Best Buy don’t take back the speaker if you open it, even if it was just for a test). So, can I open a speaker, test it and if I don’t like it bring it back with all the accessories in a « like new » condition or it need to be sealed? Thank you!
I read a few comments about recommending PowerPoint for print design. I'm going to very clear here...
PowerPoint is NOT for print design! It's great for onscreen presentations though.
If you're most familiar with the M$ office suite or it's the only thing you have to work with at your job, use Publisher instead for print and layout design.
So for clarification, I work at one of the Canadian Staples stores—figured I’d mention it since policy might be different from American ones.
In the two years I’ve worked here, I’ve always gotten Boxing Day off. Previous management has told me that Staples considers it a “stat holiday” for full-time employees, which I am.
I was asking about holiday hours to my new manager, and she thought I would have to do use my own vacation time to take Boxing Day off, when I have proof from last year on my paystub that I was paid stat holiday wages on Boxing Day. She’s insisting that it’s up to management (as in, her) to decide on if I get the day off or not.
Who can I go to with this issue to get hard confirmation that I’m entitled to the day off outside of my vacation hours?
What is the process for this? We have a case of water that is in RTV damages. The disposition says RTV then destroy. How do I do this?
I’ve never posted anything on here before, but I found a new (significantly better) job and got hired immediately so I finally had an excuse to leave this terrible company! I just wanted to share that cuz I’m happy about it ^ ^
What is your least favorite part and why?
So I'm curious do other stores still call customers to remind them to renew their Virus Shield/Total Support? My store hasn't done it in some time after by my understanding TSOC or some other party had been tasked with calling and either renewing over the phone or creating drafts in the system for us to then work from. I don't mind doing it, but just curious if other stores still do it or even if my understanding of it already being done is incorrect.
im looking for the link to the place where employee benefits are available, like discounts on appliances, trips, rentals, etc. I thought i had it bookmarked at home but i cant find it. anyone have it available?
The store has just over a month remaining for inventory.
I feel that there is a good amount of preparation involved for inventory. As an MIS, I feel that I share a huge amount of responsibility when it comes to inventory.
If anyone has been in the company for a good amount of time, I would like some advice on how to guarantee a successful inventory week.
Thanks
I have 110 unique notes I’d like to print into greeting cards so that way I don’t have to hand write them all…. Is this something I can order from staples printing?
Recently been hired as an AM and I heard that if the store doesn't make 2.2million by the end of the year then my position is eliminated???! Is that even possible or true? And if so, then when does that happen? I am so scared that I will need to find another job 😫
And they have made some real bad ones.
Just a random thought: Does anyone think that might become a possibility one day?
I’m currently living a few states away from my local credit union and need some extra personal checks printed so I can pay rent and a few other bills. I was curious if Staples offers this service in store so I don’t have to make the hour and a half trip back home just for personal checks. I ordered some through my bank but they won’t be here in time so that’s why I’m asking.
coming up on my first holiday season as print supe in a low volume store. i know we get supplies in to help us get a head start for the season, but im just curious to know how much stock of things i should be keeping for the card season? how much of each item do yall usually keep (i know this would typically differ from volume).
I’m the MIS, I have the worse schedule and it makes it hard to do my job. I work Saturday and Sundays, and almost always I’m closing for all my shifts.
During my shifts I typically have one print associate, one associate, and me. They thankfully have enough coverage from the morning to cover all our lunches but once lunches are covered it’s down to the closers. When they’re is overlaps in coverage from openers to closers it’s super busy and I’m constantly being called up to back up. Honestly this should be the RSS schedule.
At night I struggle to get away from the front, I’m typically stuck on register or doing Amazon returns after my lunch till close. Some of my closers also have trouble/issues with working on register. In told it’s better to utilize them as stockers.. when it’s just three of us.
TL/DR: I’m scheduled to close and work weekends as MIS, not giving me time to take care of my responsibilities.
Last Sunday, things got pretty wild at work. My associate got fired. But he called at the same time to say he quit.
So, I came in Sunday. Regular day, work flow going fine, but I didn't see one guy on schedule. So I asked my print supervisor, who was also the mod for today, because our old sales manager used to be mod for Saturday and Sunday while weekdays, doing sales manager futures. Now he's a GM at another store 30 minutes from us. I asked, "Where's—let's call him—Bob?" And he replied, "Bob quit. Didn't show up. My GM was going to fire him, but he called and said he quits." The GM called my supervisor and said, "They will be three people running the store for Sunday." And I said, "You're serious?" He said, "Yes." So for the whole Sunday, one person on the register, one mod, and me, the print associate, in the entire store. Unless we hire another person, that's going to be just three people every Sunday.
How do yall reset the apple alarms, mine keeps going off and I can't call anyone who knows 😭
As the title says, how long do y'all in P&MS give before you mark a job as abandoned? Process I was told was anything over 30 days with 3 attempts at contact. I was just wondering if there was an actual policy on this that we're supposed to follow. TIA!
Hi all,
We continue to receive material ARP deductions with no backup documentation. I've created tickets, but usually the response is vague if I get a response at all. Does anyone know what deductions beginning with ARP are for specifically?
I wanted to use this service for mail, but don't like that I'm being forced to pay $25 for a notary. You can go to a UPS store and pay $15. I should be able to get my documents notarized other ways. Then when I asked for a refund they ignored me and didn't send a refund until I chatted back in weeks later. They said they don't automatically send refunds, but I never used the service so why wouldn't you give me my money back???
Hi, Staples sells Samsung microsdxc cards, but only online. Can I go in store and order one for in store pick up, and price match Amazon?
What you guys' favorite snack to get when you're on break also I need tips on how to deal with printers specifically self service
Anyone know how long it takes for tsa to complete their background check once you get finger printed.
Just cancelled my plus membership (annual fee =$49), and then a little regretted. Chatted with representative and told the membership not only can't be reinstated but also cannot re-enrolled, "Staples Plus Membership No Longer Accepting New Enrollments Effective 1/6/2023." No wonder why I can't see sign up button after cancellation.
Well, whatever it is, it is. Didn't expect that, but time to move on. Let me summarize my era of the staple cartridge recycling.
Plus only useful benefit is Ink/Tone cartridge recycle, 20/month, double a general customer.
with new easy rewards, the pt value per cartridge also varies between plus and general. See the screenshot contrast at the end. That would result in about $33/month different between plus and general members. Consider the "$33" can only be spent within Staple, the fair value is more like $15-$20-ish.
As a Mr. nobody, my staple purchases are just house cleaning and paper stuffs. To be honest, Staples price is not competitive at all say compared to Amazon/Walmart/Maybe Costco, but I can accept that because of the points (probably no longer).
It does become a hassle to visit the store once a month for the pure sake of "manufactured recycling".
What about now? I have enough items I typically buy from Staples so for 1 year or so, I am good. Then I will just go to the alternative vendors I listed above or just wait for the deals. There should be plenty. Regretfully, I still have some ebay-bought cartridge left, so will wait for the promotion periods (say 500pt/cartridget up to 10 this month). No rush. Meanwhile, considering the miserable recycle value for a general customer, I probably will stop visiting staples stores from now on. (I probably haven't created enough value to them, so they shouldn't regret either). That's the end.
anyone else’s staples making them do this also? i think it’s pointless and more work than it’s worth. they want us to get sign ups but when this is the way they’re doing it, we’re not gonna get sign ups. then it’s somehow our fault for mot meeting quota lol
Just wondering - within a day price increase from $99 to $299 - I added in my car yesterday at 99 and today I saw 299 - why?
(Edit: my partner just reminded me of the sexually explicit magnet he had in his office that we saw the day we got hired!)
TLDR AT THE END
I don't know if any of this is enough for a lawsuit or even worth going through with it, but at least 25 current and ex employees of our store have experienced this, so we might be able to do something!
I've been working for Staples for over a year now, and my GM has got to be one of the worst I know!
These are offenses i and at least a dozen or so other employees have witnessed or experienced, in no particular order of grossness, that I can remember off the top of my head:
He and my fiancée have a contentious relationship -- my fiancée had to fight to get the P&M raise despite working in P&M and as a cashier, and they're very vocal with telling our GM that he's a piece of shit. And since I also work there, he likes to take his frustration out on me and whine about my partner (24) not liking him (mid 30s).
(ages felt relevant there because it's a little pathetic how desperate he is for approval)
When I was hired, I was open about my disabilities (sciatica) and got accommodations for limited lifting/bending and sitting at register within a few months, however, I'm the only person who sorts and unwraps totes. He's stopped people from working on them even when I was on a medical leave from slipping a disc at work, leaving 2 weeks of totes for me to work on in one 5-hour shift. He was then upset that I didn't finish sorting or blocking, and has cut my hours from 20/week to 9/week.
TLDR; GM is sleeping with another employee, committing several OSHA violations, is sexist, drinks and does drugs on the clock all while not knowing how to do any of the actual functions of the job and retaliating against people who bring up problems. Any advice?
