I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but essentially, I play GTAO and want to attempt a speedrun. I'm fairly new to speedrunning. I suppose my question would be where I would go to see real world record times, is there a website, app or something of some sort I can go to, to see actual real, world records? Or can I just ask the subreddit?
I want to attempt a GTAO, Diamond Casino, Big Con finale, (Xbox Series S/X), world record, 2 player (me +1 other person)
I tried to post this question to GTA subreddit but my question was deleted for being "too simple" and got no help at all. I am mostly interested in attempting this Big Con run first but am also very interested in speedrunning other games so any help and advice would much appreciated, as like I said I am very new to speedrunning. Thank you.
i have recently been wanting to get into speedrunning but i have not found a good place to start (i tried sm64 but i couldent get past the first bowser level) i have a pc but idealy i would like to do free games because i dont have much money, but could you give some games to start. thx in advance
In runs where either it doesn't matter what order you do it in, or runs that have different possible routes through them (I'm thinking something like WHG3 or 4), is it possible to have the splits out of order but still running comparisons? (I'm aware that different routes generally aren't feasible for high-level runs, but I'm not high-level yet.)
I know next to nothing about speedruns, but I wanted to see what times he was able to get and haven't been able to find them. Does he have the fastest time for it or has someone else beaten him?
I know there are a lot of great games out there that are terrible for speed running, but I wanna see the opposite. What are some games that are rushed, unpolished, and a terrible game when played correctly, but are great speedrunning games?
Congrats to my little bro on his new WR π
Hello, i made a pureya speedrun collecting 999 marbles. It seems that it isnt an speedrun category yet, i just found one video of someone doing it, so i tried to beat him and failed by 2 minutes and something π€·π»ββοΈ, i'll keep trying, tho.
hello .. my name is monochrome, I'm nowadays also going under the name of warlord chrome, I started content creation a few months ago. I made a video that explains the very short run (around 1 minute) of the last level in halls of torment, this is all to start easier or softer with speedrun-content, before I pull out the bigger calibers in the future (also because learning about editing and such). so this is just the first puzzlepiece to begin with. my current pb, which is for now, is the world record, can be found at the end of the video. enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXjTTkT6Xo0
Title. After his recent 120 star WR (1:35:33!!), returning to holding the #1 spot at 4/5 major categories of SM64, and now having broken WR in every major category, after only A YEAR of practice+attempts.
Everybody knows that he is the greatest SM64 speedrunner of all time after this WR; if it was a convo prior to his 120 star foray (in which it maybe was), it no longer is now. So now we move onto more important conversations. Where does GreenSuigi stand in the pantheon of greatest speedrunners EVER, REGARDLESS of game or category?
There is a small number of runners other than Suigi that one could feasibly argue to be in this conversation. Because SM64 is one of the most historically deep, competitive, and optimized speedgames ever, imo one would have to dominate multiple categories in multiple games to an even greater extent or length of time. Off the top of my head, I only know people like TheMexicanRunner (NES games god), Rayan Isran (GoldenEye + Perfect Dark), and Distortion2 (Dark Souls runner, but WR's in many, many games).
I don't know which other names to put down. And perhaps it's generally silly to compare between different games. But I do think that Suigi's accomplishments have eclipsed a point where it would be interesting to weigh his against others' regardless of the game.
Also, I'm not really counting "influence on the speedrunning community" as a part of this conversation, only trying to judge based off objective quality of achievements from a purely gameplay-based perspective.. So no Narcissa Wright or Siglemic, for instance. So what'dyall think?
Hello speedrunners! Nitro Speedrun and I are proud to announce that Run Arena is back for a second edition. It just stars this week-end with the reveal of the new games, and finishes on December 1st with the finals!
A brief introduction: Run Arena is a multi-game speedrun competition featuring five PC games over five weeks. Everyone is welcome; you just need to acquire the games, which will cost around $30 for this edition. The competition can be played individually, in teams, or both.
The unique feature of this competition is that each run on a game earns you points based on your time. The standings are determined by the total points from the different games, not by the total time. Itβs similar to the Track & Fieldβs decathlon, in sport, or the Ultimate Decathlon, in speedrun, for example.
GAMES
For this second edition, here are the games and their categories :
- π Bloody Hell - NMG Any%
- π Katana ZERO - All Stages
- π± Paperball - Intermediate
- πΉ Skator Gator 3D - Any% Glitchless
- πΆ Grapple Dog - World 1
The five games of the second edition
Six months ago, over 40 participants took part in the first edition.Β SuperLinkGodΒ won all the individual competitions and the overall standings, while his team, THE GHOST MASTERS, withΒ GHOSTDEATH,Β Molga, and himself, won the team competition.
Each competition will have its own prize pool. The total initial prize pool isΒ $500. We will share the distribution details on a new Matcherino page soon, which is still under construction.
More information will be available with the reveal, but you can already join the action! TheΒ Nitro Speedrun DiscordΒ will be the place to get all the updated information.Β The Run Arena websiteΒ is already available, and you will found all the ressources and functionalities for the event there.
We hope youβre excited for this adventure, and we look forward to seeing you there!
The pre carpetless (and also old) ideal time for 120 star is 1:32:55. However the time for Wii VC is 1:30:58. I imagine with carpetless and other new finds the Wii VC ideal time could go under 90 minutes.
Iβve heard people say that sub 90 minutes is still VERY unlikely to ever happen on N64. Do you think runners a decade from now will want to try and get sub 90 minutes on Wii VC just for the novelty of it? Similar to the Tetris community trying to get the game to crash on the classic NES version.
I was watching the crash warped speedrun the other day and I realized that no one uses that bug of having all the power ups at the beginning, which doesn't make sense, because it's simple to do and would definitely help in several sessions, like that it would greatly reduce speedrun time, if the reason is that it wouldn't change anything or because the speedrun is well optimized, please can you talk, because for me watching it makes no sense not to use it
Don't get much time to speedrun since having a baby, but I've been working on getting this under an hour for a LONG time. So stoked to get a decent run
A new skip has been discovered in Final Fantasy 7. Similar to Kalm skip, the skip takes advantage of the game's world map collision implementation by putting stale references to triangles from unloaded tiles in specific spots on the world map. In other words, it exploits collision logic to build a bridge between Midgar and the City of the Ancients.
This effectively skips all of disk 1 after Midgar. So no Junon parade, no Gold Saucer, no Cosmo Canyon, no Temple of the Ancients and perhaps most noticeably no >!Aerith death!<*.
A big problem with this skip is that it requires several minutes of walking back and forth to specific spots on the world map in order to work. If any random encounters happen, the world map reloads and all setup for the glitch is lost. Because of this it's debatable if it will even be possible on the PSX version of FF7. However, the PC version has ways to suppress random encounters, and the console rereleases have an explicit option which disables them.
Additionally, even after the skip is accomplished, the party is missing loads of items, experience, and money that's typically obtained over the course of disk 1. This means new strategies need to be developed for just about every required battle on disks 2 and 3.
This is still not faster than wrong warping to the end, but it's a new tool for warpless any% categories.
More info here.
^(*>!Strictly speaking, the death cutscene still happens, but she is never removed from your party and stays there until the end of the game.!<)
Livesplit works fine and normal except that every time i try to open split editor and freezes and crashes. After it crashes, and split or layout saves are gone, even if in a folder, they disappear. If i had changed the settings and saved my changes, that wouldnt stay either. At first i thought it was because I was on an older version, but that doesnt seem to be the issue as even on the most recent version of Livesplit, it hasnt been fixed. Would really love some solutions on this, as I've searched the internet for some and none have worked.
