I typed up a review earlier, but I really wanted to show how the JBL tip works just a bit better than the Headhunter tip.
I spear in a lot of heavy current and the Headhunter tip just doesn't stay seated as well as the JBL tip.
I’ve seen it more than once. I’m kinda on the smaller side so I’m scared to confront people when it happens.
Jumped in with a dead whale & 7 tiger sharks on the way back from this commercial haul , once in a lifetime experience forsure
Second clip included was a profitable dusk Dive from the same trip

I'm a beginner, thinking of getting my first pole spear, and want to get a slip tip for the JBL 6' Travel Pole Spear. But when looking at the additional buys for the tips (on their website), I'm unsure wether I need to buy a convertor as well or wether the tip fits directly onto their pole spear..
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I’m thinking about getting my dad a slip tip for Christmas. He’s a spearfisher in the Adria and complains rather often about fish escaping from his spear. But I’m not sure if a slip tip is the right choice for him since he doesn’t hunt big game fish. Any experiences or recommendations for slip tip?
His Dad is a die hard spear fisherman so he is obviously getting his boys into it.
Hey guys - I’m currently traveling in Baja right now and getting on a panga tomorrow. I wasn’t expecting to encounter big fish so all I brought was a couple reel guns. My big gun is a ~110cm roller with a reel and flopper. I’m comfortable using this gun for yellowtail/wsb. The captain is telling me there are yellowfin tuna in right now on the smaller side. Most are 20-40 pounds, some bigger. Am I am idiot to take this out for tuna?
Started spearfishing and I absolutely love it. I love eating fish; I do it for the sport as well as the food. I eat everything I catch. I typically just spearfish right off the beach; not too far. I'm getting much better at it. However, I am starting to worry about sharks. Am going to French Polynesia in a few weeks and will be spearfishing. I heard that this can attract sharks from miles away. Should I give up this hobby? Don't want to get in a shark attack. Thank you
Who makes a badass 6’ spear that would take a three prong head for low vis/hole hunting?
Longtime spearo here looking for a recommendation. I have nice longer poles that I love (JBL, Headhunter), but have never found a shorty that I really liked. Tried the JBL aluminum but it’s just too bulky.
I posted a Riffe Euro 90 I’m trying to get rid of on OfferUp then got a message 24 hours later that I had broken their “Dangerous items policy”. It has been taken down leaving me without many ideas for how to sell this thing. I don’t have Facebook so I can’t use Marketplace.
What do folks on here usually do to sell their spearguns online?
Thank you!
I can only claim the red one, but my second fish👌🏼
Looking to buy a new gun for my husband (without asking too many questions to tip him off) I have pretty limited spearfishing knowledge. He dives blue water in Costa Rica, Florida, and Hawaii. I believe all his guns are his Mako guns from when he first started diving.
If you were to upgrade to any gun what would you get? Looking anywhere from $1000 - $3000 range.
Thinking about getting the JBL Shaka or Evolve CT
JBL is appealing because it seems to be higher quality carbon.
Evolve seems cool because I can buy the 9 foot and transform into other sizes but I’ve heard some questionable things on craftsmanship.
I’m currently using a 5ft scuba choice so I imagine either would feel like an upgrade. Nothing really wrong with what I got but I’d like to make it a backup or a second one for a buddy to join me. And sometimes it would be nice to have a few extra feet.
Thoughts and opinions highly appreciated!
I’m looking to make a fin upgrade soon and wanted to try and get a solid deal on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I currently have some Body+ plastic free dive fins I got on Amazon like 3 years ago for 55$. They’re beat up and super inefficient and need to be retired. I was looking at mako, spearamerica, and spearexperts for some fiberglass fins. Currently leaning towards mako fiberglass. Anyone have any opinions on any of the sales going on today?
I’m located in Victoria Australia but spearfish everywhere I go at the moment I’m using a 90cm Piccaso cobra and love it but it’s my dads. I’m very keen and am looking for a good quality speargun under $700 aud ($450 usd) I’m looking at a 110cm rob allen nomad reel gun and I’m doing my research but I don’t want to miss out on a good gun for a good deal just because I don’t know everything. I do a lot of 2-4m reef dives but would like to get into the open blue in the time to come. Can anyone help me out, ask any questions please.
This might have been asked before.
Although I would like to ask if someone can rec. A place.
I am based in mid Europe though I have 4 weeks winter break I want to fly somewhere.
For me a good Spot would be if can go by myself from Shore. Some trips by boat but not everyday.
I am fairly a beginner. But got lucky last year and speared a GT 5kg in Indonesia. For my first Dive . What obviously got me hooked now.
If someone has an Idea of good spot for me I would appreciate it.
Been thinking about Azores seems doable but isn't to warm in Winter and apparently also less fish. I am down to go back to Indo. But as I have been there already 2 times would love to explore a new place as well.
Thanks for your Time 🌞👌
I'm looking for a bag I can use to check spearfishing equipment. I usually travel with a sport-tube, but sometimes it gets too heavy (especially with bluewater guns) to carry all my gear. It is usually cheaper to check a second bag than pay the overweight fee. It is also nice to use when traveling to somewhere like the Bahamas where I don't need the extra length for spearguns.
I am looking for a bag with a reinforced back to protect long fins, and ideally be waterproof so it can be taken on a boat. It needs to be at least 37" long.
I am looking for something similar to this: https://www.scuba.com/p-csbbtd/cressi-tuna-dry-wheeled-bag?gad_source=4&gclid=Cj0KCQiAo5u6BhDJARIsAAVoDWtrqZnN4Oh6_yMPAYJHIUg6XamU9bAhOOLQymsQ7uDzfBPFxQtmDy8aAtXeEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I tried that bag in question, but the material is really poor quality. The bag was full of holes after a single trip.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I am a firm believer that camo wetsuits are optional but I am currently rocking some white fins and an orange mask but am wondering if/ how much people think the fish are likely to be reacting to them?
I don’t have trouble getting a feed, and I am pretty sure there are fins under the Christmas tree, but the mask will still be Orange.
I just moved to malaysia and need some help in getting started in spearfishing. I have no clue on what to buy and where I can spearfish. Can anyone give me some guidance or tips? (googling was a bit unhelpful ) any help will be appreciated.
I‘ll be staying on North/Middle Caicos for a week and will be bringing my polespear along - I‘m aware that I can’t shoot any fish besides lionfish and will be looking for lobster/conch aswell. There are no feasible charters there so I‘ll be diving from shore/kayak. Has anyone did something similar? Also interested in experiences on similar Caribbean islands! ..Conch recipes appreciated aswell ;)
