One of the reasons I post papers like this is to bust the notion of "magical wavelengths" and to correct misconceptions about how certain wavelengths work with plants.
I have a long history of busting out magical wavelengths dating back to 2008 when I had published a 3000 word letter to the editor in Maximum Yield Magazine about how the then LED grow light industry was based on one big lie. Back then one of their staff writers and the early LED grow light makers was promoting the notion that blurple lights give 10-20 times the yield compared to white lights (it's where the "600w", "1000w" etc lie comes from). This has started many, many long winded bitching matches online between me and a lot of early LED grow light manufacturers. I had people threaten me with lawsuits when I was calling them scammers in the late 2000's and early 2010's, and encouraged people with these lawsuits because the real science was on my side (no one followed through).
This write up I did here really knocks down blurple lights, and I articulate the science why:
We get misinformation to a lesser extent today with some people promoting far red lights and UV lights as "magical wavelengths". The bitching matches aren't the same because today I can just reference peer reviewed literature on the subject while reminding certain people that the burden of proof is always upon those who make the claim.
But it's easy for the beginner to be fooled by those who might throw around some technical jargon, and that's one reason I've been active on a beginner forum like this sub so long. I hate scammers, misinformation, and beginners being taken advantage of.
As of right now, there is no peer reviewed paper that shows that far red light is beneficial to cannabis, same with UVA, and that's mostly true for UVB. You can get reptile lights if you want to play with UVB rather than buy more expensive UVB "grow lights".
So, if anyone tries to sell you "magical wavelengths", always ask for the peer reviewed literature first. There's been close to 1000 peer reviewed papers on cannabis published, and I have open access links to over 300 of them in my sub. A YouTube video by a salesman like MIGRO, for example, is not peer reviewed information.
And BTW, this write up here is about how far red light meters/sensors as "ePAR" has been shot down as an industry standard:
Emergency plant in space bucket mid house move, got a pre house move inspection so going to be getting chopped in two weeks, not looking to shabby though,.don't think it'll be too premature. Actually had fun with this, need to get my space bucket out more. Also ignore the neglected clone haha.

Not a bucket but I have a wooden box with a lid that I thought I could stand on its side, so that the lid would open like a fridge door.
It's fairly big with a hight of 63cm, width 52cm and depth 42cm (23 x 20 x 16 inches). Which should be more than 130 liter or 34 gallons.
Because I already have this nice looking box it would be cheaper than a growing tent. I'm pretty good at electronics and would love to convert it into a space box with a raspberry pi and a monitoring system for heat and humidity.
Germany is gonna legalize growing your own cannabis from 1. April which is geil af.
first time building a space bucket, for lighting the cheapest and most efficient solution seemed like using a few 50w driverless Cobs like these, I have not figured out exactly what colors( im starting off with cool white and possible a color like royal blue or green) im gonna swap the cobs at flowering for warm white red and maybe far red? Moral of this story is im not planning on using any drivers as I've set a firm budget, im gonna cut a few cords and solder them to the cobs, and plug them into a surge protector. I will be attaching active heatsinks onto the cobs, have not researched lens' though so im not sure whats going on their. If i follow through on this will I burn down my house or possibly harm my girlfriend or self. I know this was a mash up of random questions but any help will be appreciated.
also im taking inspiration from this post minus the drivers thats more based off some dude in his garage who did what I described to make a desk lamp. thanks
just switched it over from solo cup on week 7. i noticed the plant was starting to go slanted and i thought it was because she wasn’t centered in the cup so not sure if i switched over too soon but she landed pretty smooth. got 32 gal trash can, 2 mini fans (bottom blowing in top blowing out will get carbon filter soon), full spectrum LED grow light ( 74 cold white, 2 purple uv LEDs, 46 warm white, 20 red LEDs, 2 ir LEDs) mylar reflective, and fox farm ocean forest.
I am currently beginning to plant weed, and i build a space bucket, lighting is compleaded, the ventilation is via 2 pc ventilators, but as i am still living with my parents i want to keep them hidden, i got a small crawlspace leading to my room, but am worried about the smell. My question is now if i can put filters on the exhaust fan, would it be strong enough? And which filters should i use?

Pretty much the title, i'm wondering what kind of light/wattage and lumen would be required for a 8.5 gallon bucket as i asume these would need some more as a 5 but most of what i can find about lights is for 5 gallon buckets
I keep hearing about not needing mylar if you have a white bucket because the bucket will reflect already. But doesnt mylar reflect way better making your space bucket alot more efficient?
Does air circulation have to go past all the buds? I'm making a space bucket but my top fan will be below where the buds of my plant will be, does this affect quality of the weed?
I wanted to make a space bucket and keep hearing about needing a ufo light and i was wondering, i still have a Mars Hydro TS600 100Watt grow light laying around, is it possible to use this instead?
Where can I get seeds in the UK
Thanks
Hey everyone! Just wanted to share my first attempt at creating a spacebin for indoor gardening. Here's what I've managed to set up so far:
- **Improved Air Circulation**: Installed two PC fans for intake at the bottom, along with one exhaust fan which I plan to connect to a carbon filter during the flowering stage.
- **Controlled Environment**: Added an 80W heating tube and a LED strip light along with a grow light attached to the lid. Also, I've set up a temperature/humidity controller, which is currently linked to the heating system and soon to be connected to a small 1L humidifier.
- **Hydroponic Setup**: Integrated Kratky containers using the MASTERBLEND 4-18-38 Complete Combo Kit. Currently experimenting with Roma tomatoes, and if successful, I'll transfer them to a larger setup in a closet. After the Roma tomatoes the bin will be the home of a cannabis plant.
PH: +-6
PPM 3200-3500 which will drop after i add more water along the way.
Lights are on for about 13 hours, temperture is set around 21-25 degrees celcius
Looking for suggestions and comments to improve my setup!
Would love to hear your thoughts and advice. Cheers! 🌱🚀
