Question on Soviet Tank Helmet

I recently bought a soviet tank helmet. The thing has a strong odor so bad it hurt the bad of my throat. Has anyone else had this experience before and is there any chemical or material I should be worried about that is harmful or toxic? Also, what is the best way to clean it?

Leonid Kupriyanovich's Cell Phone, 1958

Apparently Kupriyanovich designed a radio phone to landline system in the 1950s. I've attached the Russian patent. Does anyone know details of how it worked? Was the sound processed in any way? What would the quality have been? Was there any compression of the sound or multiple use of same line? One Russian language article mentions a "compression and decompression" in the patent. Anyone have ideas on that?

I found this little Soviet box on the shores of the Baltic Sea, in Latvia, after a big storm! What was the use of this thing? Any idea in which year has it been made? Could have been buried in the sea for many years? Did anyone else found Soviet stuff in sea, lakes or rivers? Very interesting!

Krokodil

I have just finished writing an essay on the satirical journal Krokodil (focusing on the original Soviet publication 1922-1991). I am looking for people who have thoughts about the journal, or Soviet satire in general. Even if you don't have any thoughts (yet), I recommend checking out their online archive. I think the easiest way to navigate the archive is through the links in their profile: https://old-crocodile.livejournal.com/profile

NRO satellite flyovers of Soviet wool jacket factories led to estimates of Soviet troop counts?

I remember reading this somewhere, but can't find anything about it on the interwebs. Looking for a reference article or something....?
