I have a mixture of smart (Wiz) bulbs and traditional decorative Edison bulbs that I want to control from the same remote. Are there any ecosystems that make a smart dimmer switch AND smart bulbs?
I currently have Wiz smart dimmer switches and they're working great but every time I try to add a new one for my hardwired wall sconces that look best with traditional long Edison bulbs, the app bugs out and I can't get it working. I have 3 different Wiz Dimmer Switches and none of them will work. Philips also appears to be dropping smart dimmers from their product lines (for some BS reason) so I'm looking to jump ship and find another ecosystem.
Does anyone have advice? I'm super frustrated because controlling/dimming smart bulbs and traditional dumb bulbs from within the same ecosystem shouldn't be so difficult. I was considering going with Hue and then getting a zigbee device that installs inside the switch box, but it seems hit or miss if the Hue bridge will play nicely with it. I just want to dim my traditional bulbs remotely 😭
I have a room that has 6 BR30 (can bulbs) on the same light switch.
There’s one right above my bed and I want to listen to music / white noise out of it at night while I sleep.
I’m thinking there’s no way to have the lightswitch off and still have the speaker work, right? I want all the lights off but the speaker to work.
Looking for recommendations for smart light switches in the UK. Looking for ones that require neutrals (will be having them fitted during rewire). Would prefer a brand where I can buy dimmers, 2-way switches, 2-gang versions etc. all from the same range/ using the same app if possible.
Would prefer WiFi ones rather than ones that require a hub.
Any recommendations very much appreciated!
I have 2, $100 each.

I have an iSmartGate Pro that I’ve been using with my garage doors for a long time. It continues to work GREAT! Prior to it I had MyQ, but it was unreliable, required a subscription, required internet access, etc.. not a fan at all.
I recently contacted a garage door installation/repair company and they told me none of the new garage door openers would work with it. They all have proprietary software and lock you into their app. I find this hard to believe, but plausible.
I’m not excited about changing my entire setup to try and recreate my automations, it would take a fair amount of work and I’d have to make sure all the other components of my automations integrate with it.
I’ve also been told they don’t integrate with Apple, Alexa, Google systems.
I’m hoping to get some help from the community. How much are they misleading me? Recommendations on how I might proceed?
I've found a few smart termostat that have official external sensor. None of them seems to support baseboard heating configutation.
I've found smart termostat that support baseboard heating, none of them have an official temperature sensor.
Is it possible to integrate a smart termostat and third party temperature sensor ? Does it require something like IFTTT ?
My issue is the termostat is over my desk and computer and therefore sometime it read 1-2 degree hotter than a real reading. But when I'm not at the computer there's no such bias.
I`ve contacted a few termostat manufacturer, they have been unhelpful with that.
I am building a new home and want to install all smart switches throughout.. 3 ways, dimmers and regular switch's. My last home I did Leviton (smartthings HUB for z-wave) and they were fine, had some issues in the beginning but this was about 6 years ago so much newer products then.. Didn't feel like doing another HUB, thought wifi switches would be easier way to go, already bought Google Nest Wifi pucks..
I was all set on Tp-Link and was thinking their Kasa brand over Tapo which requires a HUB but now I am reading about the US Gov going after them, possible banning due to hackers, Chinese brand, etc.. Don't want to get stuck with a brand that won't be available..
My back-up choice was either Leviton or Lutron Caseta.. Any other input or advice? I know Smartthings is now Aeotec and might just go that route since I will have many other devices, locks, GDO, Camera, Auto Shades, etc.. Already have a Nest doorbell and Nest thermostats, some smart plugs (Wyze and Wemo) and going all Sonos this time (kinda worried about them staying in business too).. I am all Google Home as well as Android (Pixel user)..
sorry for the rambling but back to light switches, lol.. thoughts?
So i own a Philips Hue led strip that i had to cut of a small part of for my TV shelf and now want to add a similar light to one of my display shelfs, can i use the small cut of part as its own Unit? Is there some Philips Hue extra contact one can attach to it somehow? Have searched around a bit and don't find anything aside of the basic connectors you can use to connect one strip to another so far.
Hi,
So I recently moved in to a house that i will be renting for the next 2 years. In my old place I had Sonoff Mini R2 and 2 Sonoff R3's behind my rocker switches to control my lights.
However, this house is a bit older and it seems there is no boks behind the switches. They are mostly just placed directly into the wooden doorframe through a round hole. They are LK Fuga switches similar to this:
I cannot even fit the Sonoff Mini R2 through the hole it is mounted in, without taking off the casing and I cannot really fit it behind the switch.
I was wondering if there are any recommendations for switches i can just swap 1:1 with the original. I do prefer rocker switches or something with a form of feedback. Preferably wifi controlled.
I need a simple answer. I want a relay in the ceiling above my light. I want to pair a remote, battery operated wall switch to it and put that wall switch anywhere on the wall I feel like. I just want to pair them, I don’t want to create a hub or network or learn to code... nor do I want a keychain fob button for control. I just want a battery wall switch. I’d like it to work with google and Alexa.
Longer mostly irrelevant info…. My electrician says Shelly is good, but I can’t find anything with a wall switch…other than the 4 button one. I only want to turn 1 light on per switch and that would be stupid to have on the wall. I currently have hubs for Insteon and Phillip’s hue. I have 1 Samsung smart thing, I have Wyze cameras, Ring cameras, amazon Alexa and Google home.
Any ideas? Simple and cheap… though I’ll sacrifice cheap for reliable.
I was going to order some Kidde CO detectors, and ended up impulse buying X-Sense combo detectors, water leak detectors, and security system.
Should I cancel by order? Is it garbage?
I’m attempting to setup this camera. Everything is smooth through the setup process, I can see the live shot on the app and everything but as soon as I insert a micro SD card it doesn’t connect to the app anymore and I can’t see the live shot. The micro SD card is a SanDisk ImageMate PRO 512GB. So it has plenty of space to save video. I pull the card out and I can see the live shot again with no issues but the camera is kind of pointless if it’s not saving footage.
Does anyone know of any potential fixes for this issue. It’s a random cheap brand so I figure not many people will have experience with this.
I don't want to pay a subscription if I don't have too. Got power out there too.
Hoping for something that can link with other security cameras soon but not essential
Looking for something with a smaller form factor than a standard outlet. Legrand adorne is kinda there but the cover plate is standard size
Hi, I have this LED smart light in my room and someone broke the remote. Does anyone here know this brand or does it have an app? Please help me find it. (It has speakers and light is RGB and dimmable)
Bluetooth name: LEDENER-01
Hi folks! I want to invite you to join the beta testing of my home automation app, mhome.ai. The ultimate goal is to build a real smart home agent. The focus of the initial version is on automatically generating automations, purely using English or any other language you speak. Check the image example.
The automation already supports most types of logics. You can ask the assistant to trigger on different combinations of conditions, continuous state, count occurrence in a time window, run action conditionally, wait a duration for certain condition then to resume, ... It does simple arithmetics, like tell you the temperature difference between two rooms. And it knows how to use data values, like using the value you change in a dashboard widget component to set the brightness of your light (Seems that's how other UIs control the lights. Just here, in mHome, everything is automation).
Basically, it's generating automation scripts from the text. We customize the scripting language, to make it more reliable with AI-gen, and better fit automation use cases. You don't see a traditional UI in mHome App. They are cumbersome (maybe more because I'm not good at making fancy UIs). Generated automation is also in text. Some parts are configurable. The value you can set is well guarded by the compiler. We also have the runtime to execute on cloud or local devices, or hybrid (Ok, local execution is not yet ready at this moment).
Integrations are limited currently. For device integration, only SmartThings is supported right now.
Visit mhome.ai for more info, and join the waitlist. I'm also here to answer your questions. Thanks! Hope you like it!
Hi, I'm looking to install a smart under floor heating thermostat. I've seen ones where there this a controller with LCD screen that also functions as the thermostat, but I don't want to have the controller on display. Does anyone know of a system where the thermostat is discrete and separate from the controller unit (or purely smart controlled)?
I have a medical office woth 5 rooms with smart dimmer switches in each room (Kasa and Tapo, all connected to Alexa). I’m looking for a remote control with at least 5 buttons that I can use to dim the lights in a specific room without having to go to the light switch or talk to Alexa. Just keep it in my white coat and hit the button once to dim, twice to bring the brightness back up. Recommendations?
Is anyone aware of an easy, not too expensive way to connect an anemometer to switch an electric outlet?
The problem:
My wife loves inflatable yard decorations. When the wind speed at my house rises above X mph, I want to turn them off. And when it falls below that, turn them back on.
Any ideas?
I am searching for some pointers and tips from experienced people on how to start with smart home installations. Existing electrical installation is completely without smart functions, existing knowledge is close to zero (I know what Zigbee and RasPie are, but no experience yet).
I have a family home with lights, roller blinds, door lock, household devices that I would like to control via Smart Home applications from multiple mobiles and control screen in house.
I would like to add sensors, cameras and interface to internet data for smart functions. Input from household heater system and solar system shall be used.
Technical background exists and I feel comfortable to make some non-trivial setup and programming, however, I don’t want to invest too much time operating it - it should work after setup without consuming much needed family time.
Installations preferably without additional wiring, putting devices behind existing switches is perfectly fine, new cables are not. Stable WLAN and internet connection exists. Capable router (Fritz Box) is installed, but no SmartHome bridge yet. Low overall power consumption is desired. Data privacy is must.
Could you give me some advice on
I would greatly appreciate any help, advice, hint on how to start into the topic. I would like to use your experience to avoid the most stupid mistakes and wrong investments from the beginning.
Thank you in advance 🙂
Hi all, I am in grief for my mom's sudden passing, can't think clearly, and need your help. My 90yr old dad uses zero technology (can only answer his cellphone, cannot read a text), is very stubborn, getting dementia, and can mess things up quickly by tapping even when he was younger. I am setting up a simple smart home for his home security, trying to make it as foolproof as possible, something I can access online/apps on my phone, and I live far away from him so resetting anything is impossible.
I bought for him: Nest 2nd Gen Doorbell Wyze Cams Google Hub Max to see his Doorbell & wyze cams
I have created a new Gmail account for him, so I can start setting up his google hubs. But my cellphone is registered to my Gmail, which already has my own smart home attached to it with all the above devices and many more smart home devices at my home. I do not want him to have access to anything at my home, solely because he will mess up my smart home. I wouldn't mind sharing, especially my Nest Aware account storage and Wyze membership. Eventually this will be my home, so it will become a 2nd home while I transition things, when he passes on.
I want to create a home that my Dad can see only his doorbell & wyze cams on his Google hub, but that I can also access to check on him or pull recordings if there is a security issue. I live hundreds of miles away from him, and he refuses to come live with us, he wants to remain in his home. I am worried sick about him and his security, people have stolen from him before and he falls often (yes, he has a medical alert device he wears for that).
I am getting completely stuck setting up the hubs. One is showing up as a 2nd home on my android ksamsung) tablet's Google Home app, but my android (samsung) phone only sees my own home. I have never created guest accounts, and maybe this is my solution? I have no idea. Reality is that my Dad might not live long, hard to know with my mom passing this week, but if he passes, I need to immediately have all access to the cams to keep his (my inherited) home secure.
Can anyone please start pointing me in the right directions? I am mentally fatigued and overwhelmed. Thank you
Beginning to experiment more with smart home devices. Originally, my house had a couple of Echo dots and some light bulbs that worked with them, but I've been expanding recently and am particularly interested in Matter and Thread.
Presently, my TBR is an Apple TV, but all of my routines and voice commands and so on are done with Alexa, not Siri. Last night, I removed three Govee WiFi bulbs from living room lamps and replaced them with Nanoleaf bulbs (Matter over Thread). They do respond to voice commands about turning on and changing color and so on, but I've been seeing some erratic behavior; for example, one of the bulbs refuses to join either HomeKit or Alexa, and the other two, although they did join correctly, appear to be changing their color when they feel like it.
Since Matter and Thread are both emerging technologies, I'm assuming that the bulbs are getting confused by being in both HomeKit and Alexa. I suppose I could remove them from HomeKit, but the fussing that I went thru last night seems to suggest that the bulbs have to be joined to HomeKit before they can be joined to Alexa, and removing them from HomeKit also automatically removes them from Alexa.
Anyone experienced anything similar before? Am I right in assuming that my current lack of an Alexa-based TBR may be the source of at least some of the difficulties? What are the implications of my adding an Alexa TBR to my mix, considering that I already have the Apple TV as a TBR? Will they just fight even more and make everything worse?
