S4: Cooks dad's just gone into Sharpness Harbour. Who's arm is that inside the boat? 🤣🤣
what do you think would've happened if Cassie was with the group to Russia?
Basically what the title says. I’ve noticed that Euphoria often gets compared to Skins because both shows deal with teenage life and its struggles in a bold way. Personally, I can see why people draw the comparison, but I feel like they’re also quite different in tone and execution. I definitely prefer skins tho.
In season 1 Effy lives a double life. She has selective mutism and doesn’t talk to anyone, her parents make her see a counselor but that doesn’t really work. Her parents don’t really know who she really is, they think she’s their ‘sweet innocent little girl’ and they give her a lot of attention because she doesn’t talk. However Effy isn’t like that, she’s adventurous and rebellious, she doesn’t like the attention her parents give her she wants to be free so she sneaks out and has a secret wild party life.
Tony doesn’t really get a lot of attention because their parents can’t seem to give their kids equal attention when there is something ‘wrong’ with one of their kids. At a young age he probably started acting out, causing trouble, making his dad angry to get attention. As he got older it became normal for him to cause trouble and he realized that he intelligent and is able to fuck with peoples mind and he enjoys that.
In season 2 Effy talks again and Tony is now recovering from his accident. Their parents now give Tony all their attention and Effy gets none. Anthea becomes sick and starts abusing pills, Jim can’t handle this and leaves and now Effy needs to take care of everything in the house. Effy is now more free and isn’t so sneaky anymore.
In season 3 Tony left for college, Effy is now alone with her parents who are getting divorced, their parent seems to be too caught up with their own problems and kinda ignore her the whole season.
In season 4 her parent still seem to ignore her but then Effy has a psychotic episode and tries commit suicide. After this Anthea realizes that she really fucked up and takes care of Effy. Jim is nowhere to be seen, I can’t imagine that Jim completely leaves his children but it seems like he was very distant because he always gets away when things at home are too intense.
I think both Jim and Anthea love their children but are unable to deal with serious problems and try to get away from it. Anthea does this in season 2 by abusing drugs but in season 4 she realizes that she really needs to help Effy. Jim just runs away. Effy is kinda similar, she was using drugs to escape her depression and ran away from home after she hit Katie with a rock. I think that their dynamic is very interesting.
While partially Effy could be to blame, the environment she and Tony were in was awful. As much as we empathize with the parents both the dad and the mom were terrible. Barely, being involved in their kids lives, and when Effy overdosed, her father immediately puts blame on Tony and then Sid, instead of taking accountability. And even after that he still isn't involved in Effy or Tony's life and Effy is left to take care of herself her brother and her mother who isn't in a good state to take care of herself. Then after Tony leaves he's back, only until the father finds out the mother cheated on him. And he basically says "good luck taking care of Effy, I'm out of here" which is selfish because as a parent your jobs not only to be in a relationship, but to take care of your child.
Then after that Effy runs off and Panda follows her and Effy smokes and she asks Panda why are we friends. I think most people misunderstood, but Effy wanted someone to say I care about you or anything like that. Panda, who because of her mom always tries to give the most people pleasing answer gives a people pleasing shallow answer to which Effy responds with that's it and Panda goes yeah.
Which is a completely separate discussion, but again completely the environment Panda is in's fault.
Now onto Tony, who again after getting hit by a bus, where was his father after in season 2. Gone. A lot of Tony's issues like treating Michelle like an object in season 1 and not being able to show any affection towards Sid, have I believe something to do with his father not being there for him on an emotional level. Always putting the blame on what Tony could do better. It amazes me that Effy and Tony are seen as "villains" by a lot of people when if were being quiet frank it's the parents who messed up.
Hey guys! I'm searching for this dress Cassie wore in series 1 episode 5. If anyone could let me know where it's from or any similar dupes that would be appreciated
I don’t get how everyone is in love and they fall in love without even talking is that not just liking someone or thinking their fit wdym LOVE and they use that word so so much
If they were ever do to a new series of Skins how do you think they would handle it. Do you think it would be a new set of teens or just where some of the characters are now in their lives.
I think id like a little bit of both. New generation but maybe some of the cast are the parents , sibling , teachers or just have a cameo here and there.
I NEED TO KNOW WHY is chris crying in the room with the door closed, when cassie tries to tell him about his mom visiting. She stops herself because he's sobbing so loud, was it because he saw his mom somehow OR.. he was crying about Jal and the baby (which he had JUST spoke of with cassie)??
Cassie offers to make him tea after their talk about Jal & he seems fine. Suddenly when she comes back, the door is closed & he is bawling 😔 but I can't tell what it was exactly about.. maybe it's a mix of everything but what are your thoughts on this scene with his mom ending with him crying? please.
My chest physically hurts when I hear that music sometimes. It’s hard to explain. I just have such a deep connection to Gen 1 and 2 that I will never be able to replicate with any other piece of media. True comfort show. That’s all
I love the story of these three, nothing more to say
Were fans really mad when Freddie’s death was revealed? Were people disappointed in the story initially? Just curious on how it was received :)
So being a person from a very small and lesser-known country (Lithuania), I always get really excited when I hear a reference to or just anything about my country in “the wild”. While rewatching Skins UK and after watching a little bit of the US (🥴) version, I’ve noticed there are quite a few references to Lithuania. Maybe some other shows Ive recently watched are getting mixed up in my head, so there may not be that many, but I still wondered whether there was any particular reason for referencing Lithuania? As well as Poland
I love this subreddit and I just wanted to say happy thanksgiving, I’m thankful for yall 🦃❤️ I hope you all have a great day!
What is the name of the song playing when gen 2 goes camping and shroomed up Effy lays on the ground looking at the clouds?
Incredible, incredible soundtrack, for starters. Hopefully someone has a playlist for it on spotify. Apart from that though, it's so stale. I watched because I wanted to appreciate Skins UK better, and I honestly feel guilty of my betrayal. I was on my knees back at the feet of Skins UK. The casting was so horrible. If not comparing US to the original UK, then it's decent and it might hit the right spots for some, but wow. If Brian Elsley made a name for himself with the UK version, he really scorched everything with US.
this entire time i thought he was pakistani or at least some type of south asian that’s crazy
I still think that Anthea is the character that deserved the most her own episode. Even more than Maxxie maybe because episodes 1 and 2 of series two were really focused on him.
this girl i like freaked out a little yesterday and said i was like Freddie and she was like Effy could someone please explain this to me i don't watch the show all i know is that Freddie dies
I’m not talking about the rock song that played before he started seizing, I’m talking about the one that played when he put the monkey man shirt on and when he died. Does anyone know the name of that?
What is the difference between your favorite character and your favorite acting performance? Or is it basically the same? Give me examples please.
I want to compare Skins US to UK, but I cant find it anywhere. Probably for good reason, but if anyone can recommend it to me I'd be interested to watch!
i was thinking about the characters of gen 3 and their lives but it reminded me that i love every skins episode idc which season which character which generation… skins is perfect for showing different character experiences. and i relate a little with almost every character and i know millions of other people also relate with them.
skins is a portrayal of the universal teenage experience of those dealing with what the characters deal with. not going to list the problems because there obviously so many and those who have watched know.
no cuz grimes played for 15 seconds in s6 ep5 Mini. and i was so surprised i forgot they played grimes in skins. anyway
i was in grimes top .1 % spotify listeners one year i dont remember when it was prolly 2019 or something.
I had to stop watching it on streaming and go back to my DVDs because the song replacements were unbearable. I don't even remember the original songs but this version of Skins just felt wrong.
However, out of all the replaced songs this was the most bizarre. Did they film two versions specifically for international markets or what's the story there?
