Hello everyone!
I've been keeping an eye on the news and noticed that Shenzhen has been experiencing some intense thunderstorms lately. I have a coming trip there soon and was wondering how long these storms typically last.
Also curious about how these storms affect daily life in Shenzhen. Do malls, businesses and nightlife establishments tend to stay open during such weather, or are there closures to be expected?
Lastly, if the weather doesn't cooperate during my trip, are there any indoor activities or places you'd recommend exploring in Shenzhen?
Thanks!
I have a early train schedule for Guangzhou so looking forward to spend a night in a spa. Looking for good food, activities/ games.
Hello, I'm looking for fellow students from Sustech. I'm preparing for an interview to secure a scholarship from the university and I really need some advice from you all.
Hey guys, does any one of you practice martial arts (from Wushu to MMA, really generally asking) or know anything about it in Shenzhen? I would be interested in both visiting martial arts events (fights and shows) as well as training myself. My background is mostly in kickboxing, but being aware of the limited options Im open to new styles as well. Im based in Longgang if that matters.
Looking for a 1 bedroom apartment in Shenzhen starting in September, wondering what everyone's paying for their rent there.
Hello~!
Does anyone know of credible headhunters/recruiters/websites that cater towards expats finding jobs in SZ? I've tried apps like BOSS or 猎聘, but it seems like they're mostly for locals. I'm currently working in tech (product) in Canada, but can speak and write Chinese fluently. Looking to spend the next chapter of my life in SZ where I spent a few years growing up when I was younger. Also preferably looking for non-teaching related jobs.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Any personal stories of how you got to where you are and what you are doing would also be superb!
Thanks kindly~!
It seems like Luohu commercial city and Henggang glasses city are recommended the most but I am open to other suggestions!
I have a couple of questions,
What specific shops/vendors are good?
What is the typical price range?
For reference I am looking for titanium frames with 1.67 high index. I priced out a set on Zenni for around $90(~650 RMB) which seems on the higher side of the prices I’ve seen on TripAdvisor and Reddit, around 300-400RMB
Thanks!
I heard from someone that Shenzhen has a fake market that sells bags, clothes and electronics that are all from the original manufacturers but just without the brands. Does anyone know where in Shenzhen this is at?
Hello! I will be coming to Shenzhen this summer, and I’m struggling to find Pilates classes online (specifically reformer Pilates). I will be staying in the Bao’an area, could anyone let me know if there are Pilates classes in that area? I do not want to go too far from that area because my Chinese comprehension skills aren’t that good yet, and I am worried about getting lost. Thank you!
does anybody know of any rollerskating groups or clubs around shenzhen, preferably ones that accept beginners :)
Anyone have experience with Ps5 repair in Huaqiangbei market? Someone suggested me to send my Ps5 here for repairs (am currently in Beijing and shops here just say motherboard is faulty and don't really look at it) it beeps with 2 second light on first press then just beep on second press and then cycle repeats
So just asking any experiences, has anyone gotten their Ps5 repaired from a shop there?
This is the address the guy gave me:
Huaqiang North Manha Digital City, Futian District, Shenzhen City, Block A mezzanine ha025 Xiaojie 15816850959
Anyone know this place?
Everything was being demolished or under construction when I passed by last month, but nobody seems to know what’s happening. Is it being replaced by something else, or just being renewed/upgraded?
Normally, paid work that is outside of a work visa would be illegal. I have noticed some foreign affairs centers in Shenzhen seeking and hiring foreigners to teach English to locals on weekends for money. They do not provide work visas, so on the surface it seems like illegal work. The fact that these places are "foreign affair centers" do they get an exception by the Chinese gov. to do such things or is it illegal?
Hi,
I am currently in Shenzhen and looking for a school or place i can take Mandarin lessons. Anytime from 3 - 7 pm would suit me fine and willing to pay by the hour.
Does anyone have any good recommendations?
Any advice or insights would be much appreciated!
Thank you 鞋鞋
Hello guys. Spanish girl here, just moved to shenzhen and I got into a job in a five star hotel as VIP client receptionist.I’m really happy but I don’t understand how the insurance works. My manager told me it’s medical insurance and retirement insurance. Apparently she said they pay the local insurance but I have to pay my part.Basically I pay a percentage which is deducted from my salary (10%) but then I can get it back when I leave China? Do you guys know if I get back the last month I worked or all of the months? Is it something I have to ask for while being in China or can I do it online? What if I leave China for the weekend and I come back? Does that affect my insurance? Does anyone know if there is a Wechat account or a number I can call that speaks English to ask these questions? It’s pretty confusing to try and do this research without speaking Chinese 😭 Thank you for reading and for your time.
A long shot but asking for a friend~
🇩🇴 cheers
Hi! Is there anyone doing a master at Shenzhen University? I’d like to ask some questions Thank you!
I'm soon coming to Shenzhen for the first time and would love to find a display and other mods for my Gameboy Color. Do you know where I can find them? Does the Huaqiangbei market have anything about retro consoles?
Bonus points, if they sell parts also for other retro consoles...
Help me please 🥺
Got tempted by the price of a cheap hairdresser here in SZ
Now I'm stuck with multi colored hair. I'm desperately looking for a place in SZ that sells colored hair masks to help condition + adjust the color.
Any suggestions?
Also willing to take suggestions on reputable, affordable hairdressers (<2000RMB)
I have shoulder length western, blonde hair for context
I know high end shops that sell Japanese varieties and I know they are on taobao, but wondering if anyone knows any retail shops in SZ (or GZ).

In june, going on vacation to Hong kong/japan and gonna make a day trip from HK to shenzhen. I will be going to the electronics markets.
What I'll be looking for are components, like LEDs, 7 segment displays, arduino stuff, various passives, switches, electronic soldering kits, ect. Also possibly old electronics too. What part of the markets would I go to to find this stuff?
Am currently staying in Dongmen area. This morning we wanted to take the subway around 8am but all the gates leading to subway entrances were closed. We checked entryways in the area and all had their gates down and closed. Someone told us they open the gates at 10am but then they also showed us a door near a gated subway entryway and told us we could take that door down to the subway now. Sure enough the door led us down to the subway. Curious why the main entrances to the subway are closed until 10? Is this just on Sunday or is it like that everyday ? photo showing closed gate
Does anyone know if the new Shenzhen Costco includes same day delivery with their membership? Bonus if you've tried it, curious about speed, cost, english language app etc.

Hey. In HK next week and planning to hop up to SZ for a day trip, probably on a weekday. I will be travelling alone and haven’t been in the city for over 10 years so could do with some recommendations! Oh also my Mandarin is nowadays close to zero. Where and what should I eat? Happy to take good lunch, dinner, snacks, street food and bubble tea reccs. Again I’m on my own so casual places preferred. Any cool new places to go and visit? Also what’s the situation with e.g. WeChat Pay? Am I going to have difficulty paying for stuff with cash?
