Went on a surf trip down south and then came back and it's gone
Hey everybody. I’ve accepted a job in San Mateo the city. I’d like to hear from the sub Reddit what your opinions would be on where I should live if I want to maximize my surfing and also not be incredibly super far from the social scene. I’m a intermediate/upper intermediate surfer
I’m considering living in Half Moon bay or near Pacifica.
Any and all pointers regarding the area or anything you think I should know would be greatly appreciated!

disappointing September IMO. definitely had some fun sessions out there but the only real good day was 9/21
I first noticed there was one in the spring, now there’s not even a “camera down” notification…
Can someone point me towards info on the sand project at sloat? I drove by a couple days ago and there was a 300 m long pipe headed out from the beach to well passed the lineup. Boats out toward the end of the pipe working in some capacity.
I've been surfing for less than a year (mostly Linda mar and jacks), just moved to Marin, and would love to try out Rodeo! But as I'm still a beginner i want to make sure it's something I can handle/there aren't any rip currents or hidden rocks (or really anything else lol) i should know about. Thanks a ton!!
I finally shelled out for some neoprene booties. I got the 5mm ones with a split toe. I always kind of thought they were a bit in needed. And coming from down south definitely seemed a bit of a gimkky luxury that wasn't worth the money. Like those 50 dollar astroturf rugs they try to sells as "changing mats" ... damn tho up here it was getting harder and harder to get th motivation to get in and stay in for a few hours cause the cold. These tho worth the money! Especially as a side note when you accidentally step on a rock you foot has some protection which super nice at Linda mar.
Has anybody ever surfed double point? Does anybody know anybody who has? Rumors? Anything?
It looks almost impossible to get to, from land or sea.
I love surfing and am always trying to improve. I've spent time in places where there is consistent good surf year round (Hawai'i, etc.) and it's such a blessing for your surfing ability. I probably improved more in 3 months in Hawai'i than I did in a year in NorCal.
How do people continue progressing during the windy season? I've been driving down to Santa Cruz whenever I can but it's not sustainable. I've picked up skating bowls/transition to work on my technique for turns. I try LM when winds have some S in them but otherwise I'm going crazy. Seriously considering leaving the Bay Area for this reason alone despite loving it for so many other reasons. Any advice?
Looking for a regular bodysurfing pal primarily at SFOB and occasionally at HMB. I know some secret-ish spots. 🐋🐳
I have a spare wetsuit and swim fins and a couple of grovelers nearby at mi casa by Southside OB if we want to get pitched some more.
All ages and skill levels are welcome! I’m new but can swim like a dolphin 🥸.
my friend and I have been living in sf for about six months and we’ve been surfing OB at the tail end of the fall season and on small days in the winter. Spring hasn’t been that great, so much wind. Wondering what summer conditions are like?
I don't want to blow up anyone's secret spot, but I also don't want to bust my head on a rock.
I go there about once a week with my dog and have only ever seen a surfer out once or twice even though the waves often look rideable. There's clearly some rocks on the south end. Anyone with first hand knowledge?
Hey, anybody surfed in Bolinas at 1-2 feet waves when the wind is low and the swell is NW - WNW (like now).
Is it ok for a newbie longboarder? Or 4-5 waves are more manageable?
Thank you.
Anyone out yesterday afternoon? I think that was the best sesh I've had there. Mid tide, strong offshores - those waves were looking straight surf mag level dreamy. Took a lot of foam to scrape into them due to the wind tho
I’m looking for kindred spirits who love surfing and go to Pacifica regularly. I usually try and go every weekend. Hit me up if you’re down to join.

Do you have any recommendations for a shaper for an all-purpose relatively easy to paddle and ride OB shortboard?
I had a board from John Schultz from SF surf shop that I liked, but it's now in 2 pieces.
I'm new to this reddit and look forward to being a part of it. Cheers!
Im wondering if these massive winter swells wrap around Bolinas much? If so are the waves any good?
Does anyone know of any good winter reefs that maybe only light up in the wintertime that have waves like OB when it's 8 ft or less?? I personally love OB but this winter has offered up so much swell size I've found myself itching for that clean OB that doesn't make me feel like I'm fighting for my life sometimes. Obviously I can go down to santa cruz but that's so far, and I find the jetty to be my go to.. however it's not very consistent.
Hey all, I’m from Oahu and my husband just got a job offer in the Bay Area he wants to take. He is trying to convince me he should take it by assuring me that there is ample opportunity to surf in the Bay Area. In my head, Northern California surf is going to be huge, windy, and freezing. But I frankly have no idea what I’m talking about. So hoping some locals can give me some genuine feedback. If you live in the Bay Area and have a car and a quiver, is surfing something you can do say 2-3 times a week fairly consistently? And is it always giant and windy? Or are there places that are <8 feet and more long boardable? (I have a short board but prefer fun boards or long boards, and big, slow, clean waves.)
I can deal with the cold (I lived and surfed in new zealand for a year and in souther California for several years as well), I will invest in an epic wet suit. I just need to be mentally prepared if we’re about to make a move to a place where surf is going to be a smaller part of my life. Give me the good, the bad, and the ugly of Bay Area surf please! 🤙🏽
Mahalo!
Planning on heading to Linda Mar tomorrow, how's the experience for short boarders? Heard there are a lot of closeouts. And what are the ideal winds for Pacifica and Ocean beach?
