It should be clear at this point to anyone who watches college football that the Georgia Bulldogs are the best team in college football and will without question roll through this playoff. I have never in my life seen such a weak group of teams and the rankings this year have been terrible. Georgia should be the consensus number 1 team after this week, but I’m sure the committee won’t do it. For anyone who thinks I’m wrong, here’s team by team why Georgia is #1 (By their rankings from last week):
#1: Oregon Yeah, yeah, I know what everyone’s about to say. “Well, they’re undefeated.” “What more could you ask of them?” “They have to be the number 1 team.” No, they don’t. They literally haven’t played anyone worth talking about. The worst Big Ten in years (which is already a significantly worse conference than the SEC) and their signature win is against Ohio State. HA! This team will get smacked, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in the first game they play in the playoffs (or even Penn State). That’s how weak this team is, I don’t trust them to beat anyone who is even OK.
#2: Ohio State HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. This team spent all of Friday night and Saturday morning running their mouths only to get smacked by a BAD Michigan. Not even a mediocre Michigan, a bad one. Again, Big Ten team, so can’t really take them seriously there, and why haven’t beat anyone worth talking about. I mean, for gods sake they lost to Oregon (and see above for why that’s a bad thing). Their signature wins are Penn State and Indiana, and we’ll go into why neither of those count for anything soon.
#3: Texas October 20th. Enough said.
That should be it, but I’ll go on. At least this is an SEC team, so they have a decent resume. Smacked Michigan and did solidly against a strong number of SEC teams (Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Florida, Kentucky, Texas A&M, etc). This team should be ranked highly, and they deserve a top 5 spot. But they lost to us, so nothing else should matter in the rankings.
#4: Penn State The only worse ranking than Ohio State at #2 is this team at #4. Why in gods name did the committee put three Big Ten teams in the top 4? It’s embarrassing how much they work to prop up a weak conference. This Penn State team has even less of a claim to anything than the other two. I mean what are we considering the signature win? Illinois? USC? Wisconsin? Washington? Haven’t played anyone, But I’m kind of hoping we play them after our bye in the playoffs. It would be nice to have two straight bye weeks.
#5: Notre Dame This team needs to join a conference, they are so hard to rank because they aren’t. I will give them a ton of credit though; they have some signature wins. They’ve beat Texas A&M and Geogia Tech. Like Texas, they deserve their higher ranking, especially in this weak year, but we would steamroll them head-to-head.
#6: Miami This is why no one takes the ACC seriously. I mean, this is the top ranked ACC team coming into this weekend? They beat Florida (OK, but not super impressive), and lost to Georgia Tech and Syracuse. I don’t know what this team will do when the ACC breaks apart because without all of the cupcake games they were given in their schedule, they wouldn’t even know what a top 25 ranking looks like. Should slide right out of the top 25 when this week’s rankings come out.
#7: Georgia Now we’ve reached the top DAWGS!! Best team in college football and it’s not close. So many signature wins. Weve beat Clemson, Tennessee Tech, Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi State, Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Massachusetts, and Geogia Tech, and they should all be considered signature wins. Yes, I know the road hasn’t been perfect, but we just knew that this would be a weak year so we could make things interesting, lose a few games, and win the playoffs. I truly think that Kirby through the game against Alabama to make Saban look bad. That was some 4D chess right there. Now Nick Saban looks a lot less impressive of a coach, because his successor went right ahead and beat the team that gave him the most trouble. No one should question now that Kirby Smart is the greatest college football coach of all time. The Ole Miss loss looks slightly worse, but I’ll go into why it isn’t in a little bit. This is the best team in the country and the committee better rank them highly.
#8: Tennessee Another quality SEC team. Beat plenty of top teams and are well deserving of being in one of the top spots in the playoffs. Lost to us but can’t fault them there. Other than that, they have a very strong schedule. I might even rank them above Texas, because they’ve beat some good teams. That said we would 100% destroy this team easily.
#9: SMU Once again this is why we can’t take the ACC seriously. Another terrible team that hasn’t played anyone of note. Really kind of sad that this will probably end up being the best the ACC can do.
#10: Indiana Big Ten, big whoop. Played even fewer teams then the other teams from this conference that are ranked. Lost to Ohio State by a ton which should tell you everything about how they playoffs will go for them. They are my dream playoff matchup to be honest.
#11: Boise State Mountain west team. Their only game worth noting is vs Oregon and they lost. I don’t really thing any more analysis of them is needed.
#12: Clemson Another ACC school, another whatever. We beat them easily, and it is bizarre they lost to Louisville. Honestly, they played OK though, if they beat SMU in the championship, I could live with them being the ACC team to make it, but they would end up getting a bye when they deserve like the ten seed.
#13: Alabama God it hurts me to say this, since they’ve been our biggest rivals for years now, but this team is so underrated. I mean you have to be pretty good to beat us. The loss to Tennessee doesn’t look terrible to me because they are one of the top teams in college football right now. The Vandy and Oklahoma losses aren’t as ideal, but they are quality losses to SEC schools. We beat this team easily now that Saban is gone, but the rest of the playoffs shouldn’t look past them (and they should be in the playoffs).
#14: Ole Miss Similar idea to Alabama, another underrated team. Three losses, but they were all to SEC schools, so none of them stand out to me as terrible. They are probably one of the more mediocre teams that should make the playoffs, but they should be in there.
#15: South Carolina Another SEC school, another run of quality. Yes, they have three losses, but all against quality competition. Alabama and Ole Miss are in the playoffs, and LSU isn’t that bad. They might be right on the bubble for the playoffs.
How the rankings should go for the playoff: #1 Georgia (Obviously) #2 Oregon (Undeserved, but winning the Big Ten gets you the 2 this year) #3 Clemson (Undeserved, the ACC should be disqualified from earning a bye) #4 Boise State (Gotta give another conference champ the bye) #5 Tennessee (Quality SEC school) #6 Alabama (Quality SEC school) #7 Texas (Quality SEC school) #8 Ole Miss (Quality SEC school) #9 South Carolina (Quality SEC school) #10 Notre Dame (Good, just a tier below the SEC powerhouses) #11 Penn State (Someone else has to get in) #12 Ohio State (I put them here just because I want them to get smacked by a worse SEC team)
A full season is complete with a 1 division conference. Do you like how everything played out? Has your position changed from beginning of season to now (whether you went from like it to hate it or vice versa)?
The SEC had a ton of upsets this season and was wild as a result. Not sure if that’s due to just an anomaly of a season or in part of conjoining the divisions.
Why does he get to announce the Alabama/Auburn game today? That is just not right!
Don’t make fun of me but I am confused.
I don’t understand how the TX v Texas A&M game determines who faces GA. If A&M win and TN win, they’d be tied right?? All three would be 6-2. What am I missing lol
I’m trying to learn but this has me puzzled
He’s condescending, arrogant and just comes off as a complete A-hole! Anyone else agree?
Edit: here’s an AI response to a query.
Lane Kiffin is disliked by many for various reasons, including:
Leaving Tennessee after one season: Kiffin left the University of Tennessee after just one season to take the head coaching job at the University of Southern California (USC), which was seen as a betrayal by many Tennessee fans.
NCAA violations: Kiffin was involved in NCAA violations during his time at Tennessee, which led to penalties for the program.
Trash talking and lying: Kiffin has been known to engage in trash talking and has been accused of lying about his actions, such as voting his own team #1 in a preseason poll.
Poor coaching tenure at USC: Kiffin’s coaching tenure at USC was seen as disappointing, despite having a talented team.
Trolling and disrespect: Kiffin has been known to troll and disrespect fans of teams he has coached, particularly Tennessee and USC.
Quitting on a school: Kiffin has been accused of quitting on a school after one season, which is seen as unacceptable by many fans.
Which SEC fan base is the least liked and which is the most respected?
If ar was 5th overall dj is looking like a #1 overall qb so far
Did not see this coming. Offense looks flat as I’ve ever seen
Is anyone else so tired of Jordan trying to dominate the talk on SEC National? Him and Tebow trying to out talk each other. And Jordan likes to think he actually was a quarterback- NOT for long.
Had some fun with mred’s SEC championship simulator and decided the second spot is most likely a two horse race between Alabama and GA. If Texas beats Texas A&M and Alabama wins its last two conference games, then GA, TN, AL, Ole Miss, and TX A&M will be tied with two conference losses. The tiebreaker between two loss teams will come down the combined winning percentage of their opponents. Currently Alabama and Georgia’s opponents have the highest percentages, and Alabama has a slight lead. In order for GA to jump Alabama (without them losing), they need both of the following games to happen.
Miss St. beats Mizzou Arkansas beats Mizzou
Since Alabama played Mizzou and GA did not, Alabama’s opponent’s winning percentage would go down. Plus, since GA played Miss St. and AL did not, Georgia’s opponent’s winning percentage will go up.
(Also interesting: if Alabama drops a game but Texas still wins, Florida beating Ole Miss would put in Texas A&M over Georgia for a Texas vs Texas A&M rematch 1 week after they play in the regular season).
Is it true that sec fans hate each other during conference play, but when it comes to sec vs other teams from other conferences the sec fans all come together?
Who is in? Who is out?
I am a Texas Longhorn Fan. As far as I know, if they win every game from this point on they will make the SEC Title Game.
My question is, as of Week 11 who could potentially make the SEC Title Game alongside Texas Longhorns?
Have a future parlay with Georgia SEC champ last leg, 2$ to win 5k$. Cash out is at 250$ right now. This is my first year intently watching college football and I cannot figure out if they even have a 1% chance to make it still
Tennessee, Texas A&M and Texas are the last 1 loss teams in the conference.
Craziest outcome for the SEC title game. It currently appears that the most likely scenario for the sec title game is Winner of TEXAS/AM vs Alabama. What is the craziest possible matchup we could see?
So, I guess Travis Hunter is the Heisman favorite after this Saturday? I mean don't get me wrong, he's phenomenal, but I don't see how you can say he deserves Heisman over Jeanty at this point in the season. Averaging 8 yards as a running back is more impressive to me than averaging 12 as a receiver. Plus, Jeanty far surpasses Hunter in production. He's almost tripling Hunter in touchdowns.
Hunter's stats don't stack up to DeVonta Smith's in 2020, which is the current standard for a Hiesman receiver. IT honestly isn't even close. I just can't help but feel that Hunter's popularity, coupled with his coach's and team's popularity, is aiding his Heisman campaign. I feel bad for Jeanty, who seems to be getting overlooked cause he plays for little Boise State. I mean, Dillion Gabriel is favored over him right now. Give me a break.
Does anyone else feel this way?
Got up to watch it this morning and recap all the games and they are just replaying the South Carolina-Vandy game from last night. Are they no longer showing SECFF in the mornings?
