What is there to do for an under 20 year old who’s visiting Scranton alone?

So I’m going to be heading up to Scranton to check out a school on October 21st, arriving the day before and staying in a hotel. Will possibly be spending the next 2-4 years of my life here, depending on if I get into the school.

What can I do on that day before to check out the city? Not allowed into any bars because of age. Kinda meh on nature, can pass. Never been to a small-ish city like Scranton before, got literally no idea what to do.

Lackawanna/Luzerne Counties: Under 21 Scene

What is there to do in this region for kids 17-20? Are there place that host bands or open mic nights that kids under 21 can attend? What about social groups and other activities?

Best things to do this weekend in Scranton?

Wife and I will be getting into town around 7 pm tomorrow and leaving Sunday AM. We plan on doing some hiking during the day Saturday and eating some good food at night.

We’ve done Rickets Glen before, so looking for other hiking/outdoor ideas nearby.

Also, we’re celebrating our anniversary, so I’d like a recommendation for the fanciest/best dinner available in Scranton.

Thanks!

Florist recommendation

Looking for a new florist for arrangements for birthdays, mother's Day, etc. I used William Edward Florist for years and loved them but they recently closed permanently. Does anyone have a suggestion for another florist in the area? Thanks!

Popular bars/ clubs

New to the Scranton scene was told it’s not as lively as it used to be and has died down significantly, but there are certain spots that still get pretty busy regularly. Any recommendations for bars/nightclubs in Scranton that still are very lively recommendations for during the week and weekends are welcome

SERVING JOBS

Just throwing it out there… I was to be in the “industry” while in school. I worked at a family restaurant /pizza place and it was amazing. I also heard horror stories from my friends about other places. What are your thoughts on the server jobs in the area? I just saw an indeed post that Alfredo’s is hiring. And I got curious and made me think of this. About Alfredo’s, I know people who’ve applied. (With open scheduling and experience) and always got the run around.. like come back tomorrow so and so is in… and when they go back they’re not there. Maybe they’ll get a sit down and no response. Anyone know their deal? Olive Garden has a 3 table section. Tgi is like who u know who u blow. Sidles is shared tips and the owners wife is involved and takes out of the pot.. omg and these are just off the top of my head. It’s rough out there! Lol what are ur thoughts xo have a great day

Heading home this weekend. Looking for flea markets and vintage places.

I grew up in Scranton and will be home this weekend. I haven’t had a trip in forever when I have the time to bop around. Are the Circle Drive In Flea and Sugerman’s worth checking out? I’m a vintage collector and just looking for cool places to look at stuff I don’t own. I love On&On and will definitely swing through there. If anyone knows where the dude who owned the antique store at the old Ritz ended up, I’d love that info. He had a ton of stuff that he wouldn’t sell that I’d love to buy. Local makers marts are cool, too!!

Scranton Economy and the war in Ukraine

Very interesting article this morning in the Washington Post explaining the positive impact relief funding for Ukraine has had on the Scranton economy. Important to share this info with people leaning towards republican to show their votes may not benefit them the way they think. Or just a good read.

Does anybody know if you can visit Edgerton?

I'm into history of Pennsylvania, particularly mining history as my ancestors were coal miners when they came to the US in the 1870s. I heard about the abandoned coal mining town of Edgerton near Aylesworth Creek park. I was wondering if you are allowed to visit that area or not. I went to the area and saw a no trespassing sign, but it was very old and faded and there was another sign that said to respect the land owners and pick up your trash, so it was kind of giving me mixed signals of whether I could go there or not. I tried to find property records online, but couldn't find anything. A report on Aylesworth Creek said the area was owned by hunting clubs, but I couldn't find any information regarding what hunting clubs owned it, so I couldn't find anyone to ask for permission. Does anybody know if you are allowed to visit the area, or who I can contact to get permission?

Pumpkin Bread

Super random, but the thought of eating pumpkin bread from the W-B Bob Evans back in 2012 suddenly crossed my mind and now I'm wondering if anywhere around here has some of the good stuff. Does anyone have recommendations?
