Camouflage

The camera shows him real well on this photo, but in reality I have looked all over house for my buddy Winston and the whole time he would be laying on that black rug in front of the heat vent.

Very silly, smart beast

I put up some window coverings to block my girl’s view of street activity in order to prevent barking. But schips are too smart for that! She’s taught herself how to stand for long periods of time on her hind legs, on top of the couch, to see above the covering. It’s the most ridiculous looking thing!

How do you even pronounce it??

Hello Friends!!

Have you ever wondered how to pronounce their breed? I have the answer!!!

Late medieval Belgium was the birthplace of the Schipperke (correctly pronounced “SHEEP-er-ker,” though many American owners say “SKIP-er-kee”). The breed earned its fame as shipboard exterminators on the canals that crisscrossed the Low Countries. The little black avenger of the Belgian dockyards was also a fearless watchdog on barges and in city shops. Among the sailors and shopkeepers of Brussels and Antwerp, these quick, agile dogs earned the nickname “schipperke,” Flemish for “little captain.”

The breed was called Spits or Spitske then; the name Schipperke was given it only after the forming of the specialty club in 1888. The name is Flemish for “little captain”. Though called a canal boat dog, the Schipperke was as popular with shoemakers and other workmen as it was on the canals.

MC is an extreme chewer!

Is anyone else’s Schipp a super duper aggressive chewer? I’ve stopped giving him stuffies at all, opting for Nylabones and yak cheese.

This fella can destroyseven the Kong ‘durable’ toys in a few hours.

Winston enjoys when I'm home sick

Been home sick from work today, this has been his spot for the entire day. Not a more loyal dog on the planet.

Enjoy a big photo dump of my pup from 2024 ✨

His name is Beowulf, and I love taking photos of this guy. I think I have at least 700 photos of him from the past 5 years, probably way more lol

Schipperke and allergies

Hello, my parents have a short-hair Basenji male dogs and I have little to no allergy when cuddling or playing with him (also when I stay over for longer period). However, I do know that Schipperkes have longer hair, especially on their chest (so it seems). I wanted to ask how was your experience with Schipperkes regarding allergies - did it cause any for you, do they shed a lot, do they tend be more allergenic compared to short-hair dogs? Thanks so much for sharing your stories and experience! I would really love to have a Schipperke, but just need to make sure there would be no health issues for me long term. :)

Best grooming tools?

Hi all! I have an 11 year old skip named Sly (photo added because of course). We also have another dog named Elvis. Elvis likes to lick Sly’s fur on his left side, so now it just looks consistently matted. This is a behavior I’ve been TRYING to break to no avail. I brush Sly once a week, and though the rest of him feels soft I still find some mats in his fur, especially around the area Elvis licks. I’m looking for any suggestions on brushes/tools that you all use on your dogs! Thank you so much.
