12 year old young lady hand drew this by pencil

My 12 year old neighbor girl who always sees my Schip Olive handed this to me this afternoon . I wanted to give her money but parents said she just loves to draw and she worked on this all Easter weekend .

Flying with a schipperke?

I am looking for a dog that is smart, athletic (for hikes, walks, general adventuring), and agreeable enough with new people. They don’t need to be social butterflies (And I will be socializing them very intentionally anyway and bringing them everywhere).

I just had to put down my Australian cattle dog of almost 13 years. We were a well oiled machine and I had 100% confidence in their obedience. But, they were not a very social dog and going out of town meant I had to have family watch them otherwise I was out of luck.

I want a dog that I can fit in a pet carrier and carry onto a plane. It seems females, from good breeders with proper conformation to breed standards, would be good candidates for this. I want sort of the largest, most capable dog I can get that can still fit and travel comfortably in a carrier. It seems Schipperkes are a good candidate.

TL;DR: Can anyone share their experiences or thoughts about fitting a schipperke into a pet carrier and flying on a longer flight (8 hours)? I will be a highly dedicated owner and will train and socialize a lot.

Thanks

Flapjack's pupper wagon

At almost 13 he still gets the zoomies. However, to keep him from getting too tired or aggravating his arthritis, he has a pupper wagon! He spends about half of an 18 hole disc golf course in and out of it!

Loner

Does yours rather sit in a closet than on the couch with you? Does yours rather sit in the corner by the door than spend time with you? Does yours rather sleep under the bed than with you?

This is how mine is. But gosh I love him!

Male schipperke owners- Does your schip ever get mistaken for a girl?

I'm not sure if other schip owners experience this or if my dog Koda just comes off particularly feminine.

Nobody meeting him ever asks his gender, they simply ask "What's her name?"

Old age?

I had a chiweenie and he was the love of my life, I grew up with him. I had him for 15 years before health complications took him. He was 19

So I'm just wondering, will my chipper live to an old age? I don't know much about schipperke's bc she's my first. How old are your babies?

Puppy pic for the puppy tax :) This is Beef, she's almost 1 (in April)

Shadow’s 17th birthday

Meet Shadow! We rescued him in 2010 when he was three! He was a lively one, chaser of rabbits and hot air balloons, raider of the kitchen trash can, shaker of toys when he knew his supper was on the way, and a treat thief from one of our other dogs. He is now blind 😥 and sleeps a lot more, but still wants to walk and even run sometimes. Love him to pieces.

seizure

I’ve owned two schipperkes and both have seizures and they are from different breeders. They have seizures every 2-4 months. Anyone else had a schipperke with seizures?

How to (potty) train an older schipperke?

First of all - hello, it's my first post here :-)

We were looking for a pup to buy, but just learned there is possibility to adopt one from a shelter. He is almost 4 years old, but doesn't know any commands and is not potty trained. My questions are as follows:

  1. What are the chances that he will learn all this? Will it be as quickly as if he was a puppy?
  2. Can you train him on your own or is it better to have a trainer?
  3. How to find any good training resources or a trainer?

We live in Belgium. Would be very grateful for any tips!

Things my Schippke did/does

Didn’t like my new husband until my cat died… the cat liked my husband and they were together a lot Hated my dying cat Walks on sidewalks even when I’m walking in the grass Licks the air constantly when happy Burrows Prefers to sleep under our bed than with us… and when he does want to sleep with us he makes us pick him up and put him on the bed Sploots Great sense of hearing Highly food motivated Has bit every family member Particular with how you cuddle him Best buddy to stay in bed sick with all day Stays in bed after me and my husband have gotten up Hates weed smoke Doesn’t like guitars, the vacuum or fires Looks anywhere from a bat, rodent, bear cub, fox

What are traits of your Schippke?

Destructive behavior

My wife and I have to leave every weekday for work. Almost every day we've found that she's chewed up something new. We've tried different ways to get her to quit but no luck. Any advice?
